Bug#483641: RFH: sepolgen
Package: wnpp Severity: normal Hi, The package is lintian clean and bug free, and requires little attention. The reason I am looking for someone to help with this package is that this is written in python, and I am therefore not the best person to give it the attention that this might need. It is needed for the SELinux tool chain, and so I don't want to totally give this up (since I ight have to upload a new version in order to update the SELinux toolchain), but I would be happy to get python aware comaintainers. Lest my packaging scheme scare folks away, I'll be willing to convert this package over to debhelper V7. manoj Package: python-sepolgen Priority: optional Section: python Architecture: all Source: sepolgen Description: A Python module used in SELinux policy generation This package contains a Python module used by policy generation tools like audit2allow (which is a part of the package policcoreutils). The sepolgen library is structured to give flexibility to the application using it. The library contains: Reference Policy Representation, which are Objects for representing policies and the reference policy interfaces. Secondly, it has objects and algorithms for representing access and sets of access in an abstract way and searching that access. It also has a parser for reference policy headers. It contains infrastructure for parsing SELinux related messages as produced by the audit system. It has facilities for generating policy based on required access. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25.3 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#483606: package semi-hijack
Quoting Peter Eisentraut ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Package: phppgadmin Severity: important Obviously, there isn't much package maitenance happening here anymore. What I propose is that I put the package into the SVN repository at pkg-postgresql, add any interested parties as comaintainers, including myself and the current maintainer. We should really do some work on this package before the lenny release. Unless someone objects, I will proceed with this plan in a week or two. I'm not directly interested in the package, but I have a running l10n NMU round on the package. I sent an intent to NMU 8 days ago with no visible reaction yet. In 2 days, I should send a Announce of upcoming l10n NMU which opens an 8 days translation update round (for debconf stuff, of course). Attached is the patch I come up with as of now. As soon as the Announce mail is sent, I expect 4-5 more debconf translations to come in. I don't explicitely need SVN access as this is only a temporary action. We might just need to sync our efforts and, of course, if an upload is planned in a short time for the semi-hijack process, I'll be happy to not have to do my l10n NMU..:-)...I just ask if it's possible to keep the 8-10 days delay we need to complete the upcoming update round. diff -Nru phppgadmin-4.1.3.old/debian/changelog phppgadmin-4.1.3/debian/changelog --- phppgadmin-4.1.3.old/debian/changelog 2008-05-21 22:51:06.185793601 +0200 +++ phppgadmin-4.1.3/debian/changelog 2008-05-22 18:24:52.074770037 +0200 @@ -1,3 +1,13 @@ +phppgadmin (4.1.3-0.3) unstable; urgency=low + + * Non-maintainer upload to fix pending l10n issues + * Debconf translations: +- Italian. Bug#482553: ldm: password change doesn't work
found 482553 2:2.0.5-1 thanks On Fri, May 23, 2008 at 03:59:18PM +0200, John S. Skogtvedt wrote: When trying to log in as a user with an expired password, I experienced the following problems: 1) ldm first prompted for new password, and then prompted again (to confirm). After that it got stuck - I could enter text, but nothing happened. 2) ldm doesn't check if the new password is equal to the old password. If it is, then the password won't be succesfully changed. 3) (with 1 and 2 fixed) ldm incorrectly zeros the password, so that the user has to enter the new password again to log in after a password change. I have attached a patch which should fix these problems. thanks for the patch, i tested it and it seems to address the issues mentioned. unfortunately additional checks, possibly not present on etch, also cause it to hang at the verifying password phase. two that i found were if the password is too similar to the previous password or if the password is too short- these are likely common issues as well. i suspect there are more. the good news is that this part of ldm is currently being discussed by ltsp developers, as it's totally broken for opensuse and gentoo's password expiry, as they have totally different text. live well, vagrant -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#480096: New NTL package available
The extra stuff in the changelog is generated in the binaries only by my system for building packages from SAGE spkgs automatically; it'll disappear in the real upload. You are right on priority; I'll fix that in the version I upload to Debian. For copyright: the 3 spaces is what the dh_make templates have (my copyright files originated from them). I don't have upload permissions myself, but will add you as an Uploader when I get it sponsored (which should be any day now). -Tim Abbott On Mon, 26 May 2008, G?rkan Seng?n wrote: Hello Tim I've put a new version of my NTL package at http://web.mit.edu/sage/apt4/pool/main/n/ntl/ntl_5.4.2-0sagep4.dsc. Very nice, thanks! This new version contains a patch that I've also submitted upstream to add versioning to the shared library. It now has no problematic lintian warnings and should be fully Debian policy compliant. Perfect. I'd like to get NTL and the SAGE packages that depend on it into Lenny if possible, so I'd appreciate your reviewing and uploading this package soon. If you won't have time to do this in the next week or so, let me know and I'll upload it myself; I'd be happy to hand off maintainance to you later when you have time. Thanks, I also would like to have NTL in Debian because of one or two other programs. Please go ahead and upload it (I don't have upload permissions). Bug#483651: libperl5.10: Regression in argument verification
Package: libperl5.10 Version: 5.10.0-10 Severity: normal Hi, I noticed the following changes in av.c between Perl 5.8 and 5.10: In Perl 5.8, Perl_av_clear(), Perl_av_undef() and possibly other API functions simply returned without doing anything, if the AV * argument was NULL: if (!av) return; In Perl 5.10, this has been changed to an assertion: assert(av); Now, this imho is a regression for the following reasons: - Old code which relies on those functions handling NULL pointers safely is now broken. That code will now either trigger the assertion or simply segfault (if NDEBUG was defined when building Perl). - Imho, library functions should never cause a program to abort because of invalid arguments (at least, in cases which are equally frequent as this one). I would really like to see those changes reverted. I did not use severity wishlist because this has a (minor) impact on the usability of libperl. Thus I will have to ask you questions. If you create a file when logged in as user test (with su), does the file belongs to root or to test? In fact, I wonder if it is not a bug in id, which cast all the UIDs and GIDs to (unsigned long int). Also, are you able to compile some source on that box. I would be interested by having the output of: #include sys/types.h #include pwd.h #include stdio.h void main (void) { struct passwd *pwd = getpwnam (test); printf (test's UID: %llu\n, pwd-pw_uid); } It does not need to be run or compiled as user test, but the user test should be present in /etc/passwd. Last but not least, I do not recommend using these UIDs since it will trigger bugs (in shadow or other softwares). UID below 2^32 should be safe on all architectures. (This is not a reason for not fixing these bugs, but it is a good reason for administrators not to use these UIDs) Best Regards, -- Nekral -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#315592: Aboot: Orphan imminent / Good bye alpha ;-((
Hi Helge, On Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 06:56:51PM +0100, Helge Kreutzmann wrote: for over two years I have no physical access to an alpha anymore, since last year I have remote access though. But to maintain (and improve!) aboot this is not enough, especially since I notice how I loose my knowledge about alphas in general and aboot in special. Thus I intend to orphan aboot instead of pretending to still be able to maintain it. If necessary, I can still push changes upstream (though I cannot do releases there, unfortunately). So as I had occasion at last today to commit to the package repo, I can finally reply to this without my comments being a farce. I will pick up the maintenance of the aboot package in Debian. I don't know for how long that will be; I'm personally quite skeptical about alpha's prospects for lenny+1, because I don't see much future demand for the architecture, and my own alpha is only running for porting purposes so I would honestly prefer to be able to power it off and save electricity. But for the meantime, aboot has a home again. Thank you for your contributions over the past few years! It's been a pleasure to work with you, even though I have a terrible track record as a sponsor for the package. :) So what is the status? *1.0~pre20040408-3 is ready to go, 1.0~pre20040408-4 just started (could be folded in -3). So if you like you could start with an upload right away. I'm not a DD, so a goodby upload is impossible for me. I don't see any -4 changelog entries in the CVS repository at all, only -3. Are these uncommitted changes then, or was the changelog just not updated with a new -4 version number? *Upstream is dead. I still have e-mail addresses, but both upstream maintainers do not respond for a prolonged time already. *I can still write in the CVS repository upstream, but I have no privileges there to do releases and similar things. Under these circumstances, I'm going to treat the alioth project as the de facto upstream. My first change in consequence of this is to request the creation of a bzr repo to replace the current CVS repo on alioth; I'm long past the point where I can stomach to work with CVS on a regular basis, so leaving the package in CVS will only discourage me from working on it - and furthermore, it's my hope that switching to a distributed VCS will encourage better collaboration among whatever other alpha porters are still out there on other distros, with the side benefit of cementing the legitimacy of this new upstream source. You, of course, continue to be welcome to commit to the alioth (bzr) repository, whenever the desire strikes you. And maybe I can be somewhat less of an absentee landlord, with the possibility that we will get a new upstream release someday. Amelia II implements our bootstrapping-based algorithm that gives essentially the same answers as the standard IP or EMis approaches, is usually considerably faster than existing approaches and can handle many more variables. Unlike Amelia I and other statistically rigorous imputation software, it virtually never crashes (but please let us know if you find to the contrary!). The program also generalizes existing approaches by allowing for trends in time series across observations within a cross-sectional unit, as well as priors that allow experts to incorporate beliefs they have about the values of missing cells in their data. Amelia II also includes useful diagnostics of the fit of multiple imputation models. However it is not on amd64. The data in the first report might be wrong, cause I probably filed it on my desktop system. Oh I see. Good information. This makes me suspect hardware related. Not necessarily a fault but maybe something in the patch that is incompatible. Are you running some other system with identical hardware, where you do not have the crash. Or even though it is not identical, is it similar? The system were it runs on is a Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz according to /proc/cpuinfo Ok, yes this is good information. I would like to know as much as you can tell about the hardware, related especially to the memory handling. It can very well be a timing issue. * Number of CPU:s * Amount of memory * Memory type and speed * Anything else that you can find that you think can be interesting Tell me, if you need more information and sorry for the confusion. BTW. I suspected first that this is hardware related, but my hoster did an extensive test of the hardware and found no problem. The evidence is still not gone, but I don't have anything to slap the hoster with currently. The panic does not really indicate something hw related. It is indicating something with paging, which relates to memory handling. It do not necessarily need to be a fault, but could be something related. Bug#373210: netris: Add scoring support
tags 373210 + wontfix thanks Hi! First of all, sorry for the extremely late response. I won't try to find an excuse for that, but I really feel sorry. About your patch, it won't get applied (in Debian). It is way too intrusive, wanting a cron job, sgid games, and what's worst: Pull in python dependencies. That would extremely enlarge the dependency chain, making it hard and tricky for small systems where it still is quite useful as time killer. If you want to have it happen please suggest it to the original author, not a distribution. Yes, I know that I patched the game over the time a fair bit, but so long I guess in a way that could get its approval by the original developer. About making the key for a new game clearer, it's written like that because the key is configureable and one can switch from using n to something else. I tried at some point to make that dynamic, unfortunately I wasn't able to come up with a solution that actually also worked. I'll leave the report open for a while before I finally decide to close it. If you have any further informations why it so totally makes sense and is a must-have to pull in a python dependency to a package that currently has only ncurses dependency besides the libc, feel free to enlighten me. So long, and thanks for the suggestion anyway. Rhonda -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#474630: original motivation for __init__.py detection
* Josselin Mouette [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008-04-27 21:07:25 +0200]: - python-support could be modified to not use __init__.py for twisted/plugins. I don't know what are the consequences of such a modification Technically this is a very easy fix, but this is opening a can of worms: if we add an exception for twisted, there will be no reason not to fix any other broken package that comes up. Instead of adding a specific exception for twisted/plugins, would it not be possible to implement some mechanism for informing python-support that a particular directory is *not* a namespace package, thus disabling the __init__.py generation for that directory? The exception would then need to be in any package installing such a directory, but this does not seem particularly onerous; and indeed, any package that uses the twisted plugin system will have this problem, so twisted/plugins is definitely not the only case that needs to be handled. I think the real solution is to fix python-twisted to use python modules directories as God intended them to be. Removing the __init__.py check is a really simple change and will fix the issue as well. As glyph mentions, this isn't really an adequate solution. -- mithrandi, i Ainil en-Balandor, a faer Ambar signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#483601: aboot: Unable to boot kernels = 2.6.23

Aboot will not boot these files. I also have linux-image-2.6.24-1-alpha-generic_2.6.24-7_alpha.deb installed on my alpha. This kernel also does not boot. There was apparently a change between kernel v2.6.22 and v2.6.23 in the vmlinux.lds.S that specifies 2 program headers. I modified my ld script to specify 1 header. The system did boot with this modification. Either aboot needs to cope with this or the kernel should be fixed. What needs to happen is that you need to install the boot block from aboot 1.0~pre20040408-2 to your hard drive. You appear to have upgraded from etch, and bootloader packages don't automatically install new boot blocks when they're upgraded. This was a fresh install of sid. Bug#315592: Aboot: Orphan imminent / Good bye alpha ;-((
Hello Steve, On Fri, May 30, 2008 at 02:10:38AM -0700, Steve Langasek wrote: On Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 06:56:51PM +0100, Helge Kreutzmann wrote: I will pick up the maintenance of the aboot package in Debian. Great! Well, I liked alpha a lot, but production has ceased and the community is rather small. Thank you for your contributions over the past few years! It's been a pleasure to work with you, even though I have a terrible track record as a sponsor for the package. :) Well, ok. The main problem for me was the /dev/null phaenomena (I think partially caused by e-mail communiction problems). So I'd be glad if you include at least my changes over the last half year. So what is the status? *1.0~pre20040408-3 is ready to go, 1.0~pre20040408-4 just started (could be folded in -3). So if you like you could start with an upload right away. I'm not a DD, so a goodby upload is impossible for me. I don't see any -4 changelog entries in the CVS repository at all, only -3. Are these uncommitted changes then, or was the changelog just not updated with a new -4 version number? Initially I commited -3 in the hope that this could be a quick upload (see above, I don't know if my e-mails reached you). I started working a little afterwards but did not commit at that time (after all, I waited for -3 to be uploaded and I have no desire to learn proper forking in CVS). Recently I was told that I would soon loose remote access to an alpha machine and I asked tbm if he could sponsor an upload with all changes, so they could reach lenny. At that time I folded all my pending changes into -3 (which you should be able to see at the commit history). This is how I discovered #480364. Since I did not have the time at that moment to dig into this, I cancled my arrangement with tbm. I should not have any pending changes, but I cannot check right now, will come back with that info next week monday. Based on this I will no longer try to reach upstream[1] nor will I continue to mirror the debian changes into the alioth repository. Maybe gentoo could be contacted and asked for patch exchange? You, of course, continue to be welcome to commit to the alioth (bzr) repository, whenever the desire strikes you. And maybe I can be somewhat less of an absentee landlord, with the possibility that we will get a new upstream release someday. Fine with me. Is there an easy intro to bzr? I recently started learning git, so I have some basic knowledge on distributed VCS. I might still occasionally commit minor stuff, e.g. for packaging or documentation/translation. And yes, a version 1.0 would be great! Bug#483664: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686: sound only works when one virtual X console in use
Package: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686 Version: 2.6.25-4 Severity: normal Yesterday I upgraded the kernel from 2.6.24 to 2.6.25 (I was waiting for the nVidia kernel source fix). Since then, sound stops working as soon as a second user logs in. All users use virtual consoles -- the machine is a desktop. The problem arises when there are two graphical users (i.e. X servers on vt7 and vt8). When the problem starts, there is no sound on either session. Sound did work when there was an X session on vt7 and a text session on vt1. When I went back to 2.6.24, I had to run alsaconf fixed sound. Then I came back again to 2.6.25, only to have the problem repeat. Running alsaconf yet again seems to have fixed it. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 2.6.25-2-686 (Debian 2.6.25-4) ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.1.3 20080420 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.2-22)) #1 SMP Tue May 27 15:38:35 UTC 2008 ** Command line: root=/dev/sda1 ro ** Tainted: P (1) ** Kernel log: [1.352098] firewire_ohci: Added fw-ohci device :07:03.0, OHCI version 1.10 [1.496103] ahci :00:1f.2: version 3.0 [1.496103] ACPI: PCI Interrupt :00:1f.2[A] - GSI 19 (level, low) - IRQ 19 [1.552178] firewire_core: created device fw0: GUID 0090270001c9c70a, S400 [1.512135] ahci :00:1f.2: AHCI 0001.0100 32 slots 6 ports 3 Gbps 0x3f impl RAID mode [1.512196] ahci :00:1f.2: flags: 64bit ncq sntf led clo pio slum part [1.512247] PCI: Setting latency timer of device :00:1f.2 to 64 [1.512502] scsi2 : ahci [1.512626] scsi3 : ahci [1.516156] scsi4 : ahci [1.516272] scsi5 : ahci [1.516374] scsi6 : ahci [1.516483] scsi7 : ahci [1.516600] ata3: SATA max UDMA/133 abar [EMAIL PROTECTED] port 0x93225100 irq 217 [1.516656] ata4: SATA max UDMA/133 abar [EMAIL PROTECTED] port 0x93225180 irq 217 [1.516712] ata5: SATA max UDMA/133 abar [EMAIL PROTECTED] port 0x93225200 irq 217 [1.516768] ata6: SATA max UDMA/133 abar [EMAIL PROTECTED] port 0x93225280 irq 217 [1.516824] ata7: SATA max UDMA/133 abar [EMAIL PROTECTED] port 0x93225300 irq 217 [1.516880] ata8: SATA max UDMA/133 abar [EMAIL PROTECTED] port 0x93225380 irq 217 [1.416104] ata3: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300) [1.592119] ata3.00: ATA-7: WDC WD2500KS-00MJB0, 02.01C03, max UDMA/133 [1.592119] ata3.00: 488397168 sectors, multi 0: LBA48 [1.592119] ata3.00: configured for UDMA/133 [1.456104] ata4: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300) [1.504107] ata5: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300) [1.544109] ata6: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300) [1.592114] ata7: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300) [1.616121] ata7.00: ATAPI: ASUSDRW-1814BLT, 1.04, max UDMA/66, ATAPI AN [1.616411] ata7.00: configured for UDMA/66 [1.636115] ata8: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300) [1.528105] scsi 2:0:0:0: Direct-Access ATA WDC WD2500KS-00M 02.0 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 [1.624121] scsi 6:0:0:0: CD-ROMASUS DRW-1814BLT 1.04 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 [1.379904] Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver [1.379950] ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx [1.632584] Driver 'sd' needs updating - please use bus_type methods [1.632688] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] 488397168 512-byte hardware sectors (250059 MB) [1.632745] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off [1.632790] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Mode Sense: 00 3a 00 00 [1.632808] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA [1.632904] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] 488397168 512-byte hardware sectors (250059 MB) [1.632960] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off [1.633005] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Mode Sense: 00 3a 00 00 [1.633023] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA [1.633112] sda:4Driver 'sr' needs updating - please use bus_type methods [1.648123] sda1 sda2 sda5 sda6 [1.648123] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Attached SCSI disk [1.552107] sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 48x/48x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray [1.552111] Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20 [1.552193] sr 6:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 [1.402324] sd 2:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0 [1.402398] sr 6:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 5 [1.470376] PM: Starting manual resume from disk [1.743559] EXT3-fs: INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem. Bug#469312: Reopen 469312, still unfixed, also in Etch (initramfs-tools: awk reports syntax error in update-initramfs)
reopen 469312 ! found 469312 0.92a found 469312 0.85h notfixed 469312 0.91d severity 469312 grave tag 469312 +etch thanks Sorry, but this bug is neither fixed in Sid nor in Etch (where it is also present). In Etch the bug breaks dist-upgrades from Sarge to Etch at least if previously a devfs kernel, lilo and md was used. Just had such a case yesterday on one of our DHCP servers. And since such systems usually continue to use the /dev/md/* naming scheme because udev seems to recognise a former devfs system, this still breaks systems and can render them unbootable (therefore severity grave) if the admin doesn't notice the mentioned syntax errors. The line which obviously is causing the syntax error is the following which is used when update-initramfs parses lilo.conf: boot=/dev/$(awk /^${MD}/{print substr(\$5, 1, 3)} \ It's line 207 in Sid and line 166 in Etch. Slashes contained in $MD need be escaped properly to fix this problem. There's one more line which potentially has a similar bug: dev=$(awk /${groot}/{ print \$NF} /boot/grub/device.map) It's line 195 in Sid and line 154 in Etch. Since is primarily an escaping bug which should be easy and not critical to fix, I would be happy, if this could be fixed in Etch with perhaps 4.0r4, too. Bug#483471: gpscorrelate-gui: Program committed suicide
Hello. *** Please describe what you were doing when the application crashed *** Geotagging of JPEG images works well, but the gpscorrelate-gui crashed when it came to the first CR2 (Canon RAW) image. Was it a RAW image as opposed to a JPEG? I've never designed nor tested it with RAW images, although the code (currently) won't stop you trying to input them. Maybe try changing some tag information with one of the RAW files with the command line exiv2 tool - that would determine if it's gpscorrelate's fault or exiv2's fault. Daniel Foote.
Bug#483664: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686: sound only works when one virtual X console in use
On Fri, May 30, 2008 at 02:17:51PM +0300, Shai Berger wrote: Package: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686 Version: 2.6.25-4 Severity: normal Yesterday I upgraded the kernel from 2.6.24 to 2.6.25 (I was waiting for the nVidia kernel source fix). Running alsaconf yet again seems to have fixed it. so it is fixed on your box? hmm the bug report lacks info about an eventual kernel failure. anything in dmesg around that time. ** Tainted: P (1) right try without it, sorry but with nvidia blob tainting the kernel is no longer supported. -- maks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. tags 479217 patch thanks It appears that I've found the reason why the patched kernel still falls back to 40-wire cable. The patch applied to the Debian package only changes drivers/ide/piix.c. The initially suggested (and not applied currently) patch was for drivers/ata/ata_piix.c. For convenience, the missing ata_piix patch can be fetched from http://marc.info/?l=git-commits-headm=120915557002138w=2 or http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=01ce2601e4ba354fe1e25bb940817570d0c8ed4f;hp=a6116c9e60978a6deaa20691c67ffed727e50df1 I tried to integrate this in the build process somehow, but the patch system used is alien to me and I failed. Bug#483673: avant-window-navigator requires compiz but doesn't depend on it
Package: avant-window-navigator Version: 0.2.6-4 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 7.2 Hi! The package only losely suggests compiz, and even there not as its primary preference: Suggests: metacity (= 2.21.5) | xcompmgr | compiz | xfwm4 (= 4.2) Though, trying to start avant-window-navigator gives this message: #v+ Error: Screen isn't composited. Please run compiz (-fusion) or another compositing manager. #v- It seems to be running somehow, but does nothing at all. Opening awn-manager does show that it should display something. I haven't found anything in the documentation about what could be meant with another compositing manager, but given that metacity is in the Suggests next to compiz (which is explicitly mentioned) leaves me in the impression that it should be enough. Would be kind to know what I'm doing wrong, if compiz is really required, and last but least: Why it's only a Suggests and not a Depends if it is required.
