Bug#466292: grep: support for {,n}
* Peter Moulder peter.moul...@infotech.monash.edu.au, 2008-04-10, 16:56: The initial m is mandatory in Single Unix Spec too, to judge from http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/basedefs/xbd_chap09.html . To be exact: {,n} produces undefined results. That is, GNU grep is allowed to support it, while still preserving conformance to POSIX. I don't know whether or not {,n} was allowed by earlier versions of GNU grep [update: see below], but I would guess that it's deliberately not allowed by current GNU grep, to promote portability among other POSIX regular expression implementations. Thus, I suggest simply removing mention of {,n} from the documentation, and noting in the documentation of {m,n} that m is not optional. OK, I've just checked the changelog: the 1999-10-02 entry mentions Remove (broken) support for {,M} meaning {0,M}. But the documentation for {,n} was (re?)introduced much later... http://savannah.gnu.org/patch/?4610 What is more, grep behaves inconsistently with respect to {,m}: $ echo 'ab{,2}c' | grep -E 'ab{,2}c' | wc -c 8 $ echo 'ab{,2}c' | grep -E -o 'ab{,2}c' | wc -c 0 -- Jakub Wilk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#520104: xserver-xorg-input-wacom: Wacom stylus only works very briefly in relative mode, works correctly in absolute mode.
Hi, Unfortunately, I can't confirm this at all, my experience is quite the opposite. I've had my stylus configured with the pen in absolute mode and the eraser in relative mode since the very first package, and can confirm this still works for me in 0.8.1.6. Probably the best thing to do is give a full description of your setup (tablet type, config option etc.) to the folks on the linuxwacom-discuss list. Someone who has the same device as you can help confirm or deny this better than I'd be able to. I see no record of people reporting this problem previously though ... Sorry, Ron On Tue, Mar 17, 2009 at 11:38:05PM +1100, Daniel Pittman wrote: Package: xserver-xorg-input-wacom Version: 0.8.1.6-1 Severity: important The Wacom stylus works only very briefly in relative mode, in that it initially responds, but shortly stops moving and will no longer react in any particular fashion. Setting it back to absolute mode works correctly, and it resumes activity. We have tested setting relative mode in the xorg.conf file, which showed the problem, as well as absolute mode there and setting it relative using xsetwacom. In the later case it failed after being set relative, and was functional in absolute mode. Setting to relative a second time had no effect: it continued to ignore the stylus. I don't entirely know what to do to diagnose this better, so hope you can provide some guidance to what might help resolve the issue? Bug#521570: pokerth pauses after declaring a winner if a fluxbox key is used
Hi Clemens, On Sat, 28 Mar 2009 15:40:42 +0100 Clemens Buchacher wrote: I'm using fluxbox and if I use a fluxbox key binding anywhere during the game, pokerth pauses at the end of the round after declaring a winner. The game continues as soon as I press Ctrl. The bindings I use also happen to be a combination of Ctrl and other keys. Uhm, I didnt use fluxbox for about 4 years now - can you tell me how I can define such a binding to reproduce the bug? Additionally - did you test 0.6.4? Bug#521651: libpam-ck-connector leak resources for every pam session
Package: libpam-ck-connector Version: 0.2.10-5 Severity: important User: debian-...@lists.debian.org UserTags: debian-edu According to URL: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/consolekit/+bug/284229 , there is a resource leak in consolekit when enabling libpam-ck-connector , making it use more and more memory and CPU until it consumes all the system resources in a few days. It leak resources every time a new session is created, for example when a cron job is executed. So when munin is installed running a cron job every 5 minute, the resources are quickly consumed. I tested this in Debian Lenny, and the problem is present there. According to Michael Biebl, the current consolekit package maintainer, the error is fixed in testing and unstable, and the one-line patch to solve it can be found at URL: http://patch-tracking.debian.net/patch/series/view/consolekit/0.3.0-2/11-unref-dbus-proxy.patch . We are enabling this pam module in Debian Edu to make sure console users get their needed dbus privileges, and thus will be bitten quite badly by this issue. Please upload a fixed package in Lenny. Bug#521655: libdrm2: causes ATI fglrx driver to hard lock the system upon starting X
Package: libdrm2 Version: 2.4.5-2 Severity: important The current version of libdrm2 is completely breaks the fglrx driver. Because the machine completely locks up, I cannot tell exactly what occurs during the X startup procedure which triggers the lock because the log file does not get a chance to sync to disk. However, by process of elimination, I have narrowed down the cause to this package. I did an update on March 25 after which X would no longer work. Checking all the packages I had updated that day did not at first reveal anything as I failed to notice libdrm2. Over the next couple of days, I tried kernels 2.6.26, 2.6.28, and 2.6.29 as well as about six different versions of fglrx. I hadn't changed any of those on the 25th, but I couldn't think of a better area of investigation. Unfortunately, nothing helped. Checking the list of updated packages again, I noticed libdrm2 this time. Fetching version 2.3.1-2 from snapshot.debian.net, I installed it and X began to work again. A big relief. So, whatever changed in libdrm2, it affects all fglrx releases going back about one year and also does not seem dependent on the kernel version. The new libdrm2 does not break the OSS ATI drivers, radeon and radeonhd. Unfortunately, my card has a very new RV770 chipset which is not at all supported by X in Sid and only barely functional with X from experimental, so I can't really use those drivers yet. During my many X experiments trying to discover some new information, I would let X run and while it was starting, I kept hitting the Magic SysRq key combo for emergency sync (Alt-SysRq-S) again and again so that after a crash and reboot I might have some log fragments to look at. It worked a little. When X is trying to start the DRM subsystem I get these messages: drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID PCI:1:0:0 drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1 repeats for many cardX values drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card14 drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1 (WW) fglrx(0): Failed to open DRM connection (--) fglrx(0): Video RAM: 524288 kByte, Type: GDDR3 (EE) fglrx(0): [FB] Can not get FB MC address range. I don't know if any of those are useful, but that is the only DRM related information from the log. I can attach the whole log if it might be useful. Bug#521659: tryton-server: postinst script unnecessarily resets configfile access rights
Package: tryton-server Version: 1.0.3-2 Severity: normal Hi, postinst script for tryton-server chmod's configfile to 0644. That setting is the default, however, so in reality it changes nothing on a standard system. On odd systems, however, the postinst overrules customizations done by the local admin, which is bad. In short: Please avoid setting access right of the configfile. Or alternatively: please a) document the eforcing of specific access rights, and b) make it possible for the local admin to override. Debian Bug Tracking System a écrit : This is an automatic notification regarding your Bug report which was filed against the udev package: #521586: Simple error in a rules file can make a system unbootable from disk It has been closed by m...@linux.it (Marco d'Itri). Their explanation is attached below along with your original report. If this explanation is unsatisfactory and you have not received a better one in a separate message then please contact m...@linux.it (Marco d'Itri) by replying to this email. The explanation given was : So do not create rules with errors. Here is what is in my /etc/udev/rules.d, coming from debian packages (ie: I removed my personal ones, those are debian-distributed ones) : 025_libgphoto2.rules z60_hdparm.rules 025_logitechmouse.rules z60_libccid.rules 035_kino.rulesz60_libchipcard-tools.rules 70-persistent-cd.rulesz60_libfprint0.rules 70-persistent-net.rules z60_libpisock9.rules 77-nm-probe-modem-capabilities.rules z60_libsane-extras.rules 90-hal.rules z60_libsane.rules libmtp8.rules z60_virtualbox-ose.rules z60_alsa-utils.rules z60_xserver-xorg-input-wacom.rules That means that quite a few packages can upload a broken rules file into debian, which will end up in initrd and make systems unbootable (and there are probably others which add rules files). Sure, I discovered the problem on a personal file ; but it is much more general: don't let the tree hide the forest. Bug#521661: clamav-daemon: debconf questions
Package: clamav-daemon Version: 0.95+dfsg-1 Severity: minor The following configuration options don't have a corresponding debconf question: DetectPUA/ExcludePUA/IncludePUA Maybe this question should be asked at priority low. Also the wording for this debconf question Do you want to enable mail scanning? [1] makes you believe that ClamAV is not able to extract MIME parts correctly. This is no longer the case (and hasn't been for quite some time). In fact turning off ScanMail turns off all type 4 signatures, and url-based heuristic phishing detection. I think the debconf question shouldn't recommend turning off ScanMail. [1] It is recommended that you use a separate unpacker to extract any MIME parts of email messages if you want to scan email. -- Package-specific info: --- configuration --- ClamAV engine version: 0.95 Checking configuration files in /usr/local/etc Config file: clamd.conf --- LogFile = /tmp/clamd.log LogFileUnlock disabled LogFileMaxSize = 1048576 LogTime = yes LogClean = yes LogVerbose = yes LogSyslog disabled LogFacility = LOG_LOCAL6 PidFile = /tmp/clamd.pid TemporaryDirectory disabled DatabaseDirectory = /usr/local/share/clamav LocalSocket = /tmp/clamd.socket FixStaleSocket = yes TCPSocket = 3310 TCPAddr disabled MaxConnectionQueueLength = 15 StreamMaxLength = 26214400 StreamMinPort = 1024 StreamMaxPort = 2048 MaxThreads = 10 ReadTimeout = 120 CommandReadTimeout = 5 SendBufTimeout = 500 MaxQueue = 100 IdleTimeout = 30 ExcludePath = ^/proc/, ^/sys/, ^/tmp/ MaxDirectoryRecursion = 15 FollowDirectorySymlinks disabled FollowFileSymlinks disabled SelfCheck = 10 VirusEvent disabled ExitOnOOM disabled Foreground = yes Debug disabled LeaveTemporaryFiles disabled User = clamav AllowSupplementaryGroups disabled DetectPUA = yes ExcludePUA disabled IncludePUA disabled AlgorithmicDetection = yes ScanPE = yes ScanELF = yes DetectBrokenExecutables disabled ScanMail = yes MailFollowURLs disabled ScanPartialMessages disabled PhishingSignatures disabled PhishingScanURLs = yes PhishingAlwaysBlockCloak disabled PhishingAlwaysBlockSSLMismatch disabled HeuristicScanPrecedence disabled StructuredDataDetection disabled StructuredMinCreditCardCount = 3 StructuredMinSSNCount = 3 StructuredSSNFormatNormal = yes StructuredSSNFormatStripped disabled ScanHTML = yes ScanOLE2 = yes ScanPDF = yes ScanArchive = yes ArchiveBlockEncrypted disabled MaxScanSize = 104857600 MaxFileSize = 26214400 MaxRecursion = 16 MaxFiles = 1 ClamukoScanOnAccess disabled ClamukoScanOnOpen disabled ClamukoScanOnClose disabled ClamukoScanOnExec disabled ClamukoIncludePath disabled ClamukoExcludePath disabled ClamukoMaxFileSize = 5242880 DevACOnly disabled DevACDepth disabled Config file: freshclam.conf --- LogFileMaxSize = 2097152 LogTime = yes LogVerbose = yes LogSyslog disabled LogFacility = LOG_LOCAL6 PidFile disabled DatabaseDirectory = /usr/local/share/clamav Foreground disabled Debug disabled AllowSupplementaryGroups disabled UpdateLogFile = /tmp/freshclam.log DatabaseOwner = clamav Checks = 12 DNSDatabaseInfo = current.cvd.clamav.net DatabaseMirror = db.ro.clamav.net, database.clamav.net MaxAttempts = 3 ScriptedUpdates = yes CompressLocalDatabase disabled HTTPProxyServer disabled HTTPProxyPort disabled HTTPProxyUsername disabled HTTPProxyPassword disabled HTTPUserAgent disabled NotifyClamd = /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf OnUpdateExecute disabled OnErrorExecute disabled OnOutdatedExecute disabled LocalIPAddress disabled ConnectTimeout = 30 ReceiveTimeout = 30 SubmitDetectionStats = /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf DetectionStatsCountry disabled SafeBrowsing = yes Config file: clamav-milter.conf --- LogFile = /tmp/clamav-milter.log LogFileUnlock disabled LogFileMaxSize = 1048576 LogTime disabled LogVerbose = yes LogSyslog disabled LogFacility = LOG_LOCAL6 PidFile disabled TemporaryDirectory disabled FixStaleSocket = yes MaxThreads = 10 ReadTimeout = 120 Foreground disabled User disabled AllowSupplementaryGroups disabled MaxFileSize = 26214400 ClamdSocket = tcp:127.0.0.1:3310 MilterSocket = local:/var/spool/postfix/clamav/clamav-milter.socket LocalNet disabled OnClean = Accept OnInfected = Quarantine OnFail = Defer RejectMsg disabled AddHeader = yes Chroot disabled Whitelist disabled LogInfected disabled --- data dir --- total 21952 -rw-r--r-- 1 clamav clamav 2376192 2009-03-29 12:13 daily.cld -rw-r--r-- 1 clamav clamav 20091559 2009-03-29 12:13 main.cvd -rw--- 1 clamav clamav 52 2009-03-29 12:18 mirrors.dat -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.28.7 (SMP w/4 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages clamav-daemon depends on: ii clamav-base0.95+dfsg-1 anti-virus utility for Unix - base ii

Bug#517681: input-wacom: buttons do not work when pad set to non-core

I would rather appreciate if the pad was translated into plain scroll events so that it could be used with any program as a core pointer device, both the pad and the buttons. This also is a question that you'd be best to take up on the upstream list. I don't have a tablet with pads, so I can't confirm or deny whether this is expected, or a bug for your particular tablet. If you want to change the current behaviour, you'll definitely need to convince upstream first in any case. There are many eyes there, probably even some with the same tablet as you. It really is the best place to report anything that isn't specific to the Debian packaging. We don't want to fork this from them if it isn't critically urgent to do so, so we aren't usually going to 'lead' on any changes like that without discussion there first. Bug#482826: [Linuxwacom-discuss] Bug#482826: xserver-xorg-input-wacom: Mouse device wrecks input system
Hi, I'm relaxing the severity of this bug now, partly because I'm not entirely convinced that it really is a problem in the wacom driver alone anymore, it seems to be a combination of players, and likely centered on a problem in the xorg code that didn't appear to get fixed for lenny -- and partly because the consequences of being wrong about that are no longer more dire and permanent than the benefits to people who need the things that do work better in the newer code. The new xorg should be with us RSN, so I'll probably give you another poke to check on this again when that happens :) Cheers, Ron On Fri, Nov 07, 2008 at 05:39:12PM +0100, Dirk Griesbach wrote: On Fri, Nov 07, 2008 at 09:26:23PM +1030, Ron wrote: On Sun, May 25, 2008 at 07:32:18PM +0200, Dirk Griesbach wrote: On Mon, May 26, 2008 at 12:42:02AM +0930, Ron wrote: does sound like a new regression. Bug#521498: (no subject)
from ardour.org about 2.8 Distributable VST Support (most for packagers) Ardour now uses the Vestige header file to allow compilation with VST support on Linux. We believe, given the reverse engineering of the Vestige header, that there is no more need to fetch the VST SDK from Steinberg in order to build Ardour with VST support, and it is possible to distribute all source code associated with VST support. This means that distributions are free to compile and release packages of Ardour with VST support. Linux Packagers: *please* do not call such packages Ardour. They should *always* be named in a way to make it clear that they contain VST support - Ardour with VST support is not actually a Linux program at all (its a small Windows executable that is linked against some Linux libraries, run by a shell script that invokes Wine). It is critical that users have the choice to install 1 or the other (or both, if possible). To repeat, Ardour with VST support should not be packaged as Ardour. I suggest ArdourVST (or ardourvst, for the case-insensitive). Bug#521257: Use of uninitialized value in bitwise or (|) at /usr/share/lintian/lib/Lintian/Command.pm line 308.
Michael Tautschnig m...@debian.org writes: I've just checked and I think both the file one can download from the bugreport and my local copy here _do_ have a newline, but my methods for checking that might not be as effective. Anyway, I've attached a freshly generated index file, this time gzipped to make sure my mail agent doesnt harm it and I've also BCC'ed Russ to avoid any extra loops. Yup. There's a trailing newline -- that wasn't the problem. I'm a little disturbed by the degree to which the spacing indentation changes in your index. That in and of itself shouldn't cause Lintian any problems, but I don't understand why it's happening. It doesn't do this for me when I run tar -tvf on a source tarball, and the manipulations that Lintian does shouldn't change the spacing of the columns. I'm not sure if that's perhaps a sign of some other issue or just nothing. Ok, what happens here if I just do a plain tar -tvf is that indentation increases whenever the file size doesn't fit into that particular column anymore, like this: -rw--- michael/staff 895232 2009-03-23 17:22 clamav-0.95/database/daily.cvd -rw--- michael/staff 20091559 2009-02-15 22:47 clamav-0.95/database/main.cvd That seems sensible to me, it's just that the index file apparently has a different sorting of the entries, therefore the indentation feels strange. I *think* I might have fixed your problem, though. Could you try the following patch against your /usr/share/lintian directory and see if it makes the problem go away? (Although if this did fix it, I don't know why the problem wasn't reproducible.) [...] No sorry, that doesn't fix the problem, actually it seems it didn't change anything. Bug#521675: Only root can play sound in pulseaudio
Package: pulseaudio Version: 0.9.14-2 Severity: important Yesterday I did a full-upgrade and there was an update of pulseaudio. Since then, all sounds which depend on pulseaudio can be played only as root. For example, kaffeine only has sound as root when the xine engine plays through pulseaudio, but it works just fine as a user when the xine engine plays through alsa. I tried to add my user to each of the 3 pulse groups, no effect. I tried to disactivate high priority in daemon.conf, no effect. Starting the pulse server as root seems to solve the issue. Now I'm going to try to start it as a daemon at boot-time. Yet it seems to create security issues. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (50, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-lancelot-005-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages pulseaudio depends on: ii adduser 3.110 add and remove users and groups ii consolekit0.3.0-2framework for defining and trackin ii libasound21.0.19-1 shared library for ALSA applicatio ii libasyncns0 0.3-1 Asyncronous name service query lib ii libc6 2.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcap2 2.16-2 support for getting/setting POSIX. ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgdbm3 1.8.3-4GNU dbm database routines (runtime ii libltdl3 1.5.26-4 A system independent dlopen wrappe ii liboil0.3 0.3.15-1 Library of Optimized Inner Loops ii libpolkit-dbus2 0.9-3 library for accessing PolicyKit vi ii libpolkit20.9-3 library for accessing PolicyKit ii libpulsecore9 0.9.14-2 PulseAudio sound server core ii libsamplerate00.1.7-2audio rate conversion library ii libsndfile1 1.0.18-2 Library for reading/writing audio ii libspeexdsp1 1.2~rc1-1 The Speex extended runtime library ii libwrap0 7.6.q-16 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii lsb-base 3.2-20 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip Versions of packages pulseaudio recommends: ii gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio 0.9.7-2GStreamer plugin for PulseAudio ii libasound2-plugins1.0.19-2 ALSA library additional plugins ii padevchooser 0.9.3-2PulseAudio Device Chooser ii paprefs 0.9.6-2PulseAudio Preferences ii pulseaudio-esound-compat 0.9.14-2 PulseAudio ESD compatibility layer ii pulseaudio-module-hal 0.9.14-2 HAL device detection module for Pu ii pulseaudio-module-x11 0.9.14-2 X11 module for PulseAudio sound se Versions of packages pulseaudio suggests: ii paman0.9.4-1 PulseAudio Manager ii pavucontrol 0.9.6+svn20080426-1 PulseAudio Volume Control ii pavumeter0.9.3-1 PulseAudio Volume Meter ii pulseaudio-utils 0.9.14-2Command line tools for the PulseAu -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#521672: FTBFS with linux-image 2.6.29
Package: loop-aes-source Severity: grave Version: 3.2e-1 I have been using loop-aes since linux 2.6.18. Recently I tried to use kernel 2.6.29 (now i am using the 2.6.28), but I could not build loop-aes module for new kernel. Usually I use the command like as module-assistant -l 2.6.29-1-686 a-i loop-aes-source but with 2.6.29 (sid) kernel build has failed. Build-log has been attached. -- ... mpd is off . ''`. Dmitry E. Bug#521683: psadwatchd mail dependency
Package: psad Version: 2.1.5-1 Severity: normal Hi, Psad does not have any dependency on mailutils | bsd-mailx | exim4 | mail-transport-agent. Having none of mailutils and bsd-mailx packages installed, I do not have the mail command available on my system. It makes impossible to psadwatchd to send emails to let the user know a service has been restarted. The solution is to work as done for fwknopd/knopwatchd, add a dependency on exim4 | mail-transport-agent and use sendmail. Michael has already added this feature to psad, so it just has to be continued for psadwatchd. I plan to update the deamon since the new -O option is almost working.
