Bug#521640: compiz: Compiz doesn't even work!

2009-03-29 Thread Brice Goglin
Deniz Akcal wrote:
 Package: compiz
 Version: 0.7.6-7
 Severity: normal

When I set up the effect by typing ccsm in a terminal and then type compiz as
root, compiz does not have any functional effects! Not only does it
not have any effects but it also changes my theme to some other kind of theme
 I've never used before!

afaik, ccsm doesn't need to run before compiz in order to get fancy
effects. And you don't want/need to run compiz as root. It should just
work fine as a normal user.

Bug#521146: New version of debconf templates

2009-03-29 Thread Christian Perrier
I found a small error in the rewritten templates (a trailing space on
one line).

Please use the attached file instead of the one I originally sent.

Template: aolserver4/hostname
Type: string
Default: localhost
_Description: Server hostname:
AOLserver needs a hostname to use for redirect page URLs and for
 identifying itself.
 .
It is generally the fully-qualified DNS hostname of the computer, or
localhost if it is not networked. Any name valid for a URL string can
 be used.

Template: aolserver4/address
Type: string
Default: 127.0.0.1
_Description: Server IP address:
AOLserver needs an IP address to listen to.
 .
The default is the address of the loopback interface. If the server
is to be remotely accessible this should be replaced by the address
 of the appropriate network interface.

Template: aolserver4/port
Type: string
Default: 80
_Description: Server TCP port:
AOLserver needs a port number assigned for its use. This is almost always
port 80 (the standard HTTP port), but might be different if another
web server is installed, or some other service is listening on
 that port.

Bug#466292: grep: support for {,n}

2009-03-29 Thread Jakub Wilk

* Peter Moulder peter.moul...@infotech.monash.edu.au, 2008-04-10, 16:56:

The initial m is mandatory in Single Unix Spec too, to judge from
http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/basedefs/xbd_chap09.html .
To be exact: {,n} produces undefined results. That is, GNU grep is
allowed to support it, while still preserving conformance to POSIX.

I don't know whether or not {,n} was allowed by earlier versions of GNU
grep [update: see below], but I would guess that it's deliberately not
allowed by current GNU grep, to promote portability among other POSIX
regular expression implementations.

Thus, I suggest simply removing mention of {,n} from the documentation,
and noting in the documentation of {m,n} that m is not optional.

OK, I've just checked the changelog: the 1999-10-02 entry mentions
Remove (broken) support for {,M} meaning {0,M}.

But the documentation for {,n} was (re?)introduced much later...
http://savannah.gnu.org/patch/?4610

What is more, grep behaves inconsistently with respect to {,m}:

$ echo 'ab{,2}c' | grep -E 'ab{,2}c' | wc -c
8

$ echo 'ab{,2}c' | grep -E -o 'ab{,2}c' | wc -c
0

Bug#520104: xserver-xorg-input-wacom: Wacom stylus only works very briefly in relative mode, works correctly in absolute mode.

2009-03-29 Thread Ron

Hi,

Unfortunately, I can't confirm this at all, my experience is quite the
opposite. I've had my stylus configured with the pen in absolute mode
and the eraser in relative mode since the very first package, and can
confirm this still works for me in 0.8.1.6.

Probably the best thing to do is give a full description of your setup
(tablet type, config option etc.) to the folks on the linuxwacom-discuss
list. Someone who has the same device as you can help confirm or deny
this better than I'd be able to. I see no record of people reporting
this problem previously though ...

Sorry,
Ron

The Wacom stylus works only very briefly in relative mode, in that it
initially responds, but shortly stops moving and will no longer react in any
 particular fashion.

Setting it back to absolute mode works correctly, and it resumes activity.

We have tested setting relative mode in the xorg.conf file, which showed the
problem, as well as absolute mode there and setting it relative using
 xsetwacom.

In the later case it failed after being set relative, and was functional in
absolute mode. Setting to relative a second time had no effect: it continued
 to ignore the stylus.

I don't entirely know what to do to diagnose this better, so hope you can
provide some guidance to what might help resolve the issue?

 Daniel

Bug#521570: pokerth pauses after declaring a winner if a fluxbox key is used

The game continues as soon as I press Ctrl. The bindings I use also happen
to be a combination of Ctrl and other keys.

Uhm, I didnt use fluxbox for about 4 years now - can you tell me how I
can define such a binding to reproduce the bug?
Additionally - did you test 0.6.4? Does that happen there too?

Bug#521651: libpam-ck-connector leak resources for every pam session

2009-03-29 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: libpam-ck-connector
Version: 0.2.10-5
Severity: important
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
UserTags: debian-edu

According to
URL: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/consolekit/+bug/284229 ,
there is a resource leak in consolekit when enabling
libpam-ck-connector , making it use more and more memory and CPU until
it consumes all the system resources in a few days. It leak resources
every time a new session is created, for example when a cron job is
executed. So when munin is installed running a cron job every 5
minute, the resources are quickly consumed.

I tested this in Debian Lenny, and the problem is present there.

According to Michael Biebl, the current consolekit package maintainer,
the error is fixed in testing and unstable, and the one-line patch to
solve it can be found at
URL:
http://patch-tracking.debian.net/patch/series/view/consolekit/0.3.0-2/11-unref-dbus-proxy.patch
 .

We are enabling this pam module in Debian Edu to make sure console
users get their needed dbus privileges, and thus will be bitten quite
badly by this issue. Please upload a fixed package in Lenny.

Happy hacking,

Bug#521655: libdrm2: causes ATI fglrx driver to hard lock the system upon starting X

2009-03-29 Thread John Gruenenfelder
Package: libdrm2
Version: 2.4.5-2
Severity: important

The current version of libdrm2 is completely breaks the fglrx driver. Because
the machine completely locks up, I cannot tell exactly what occurs during the
X startup procedure which triggers the lock because the log file does not get
a chance to sync to disk.

However, by process of elimination, I have narrowed down the cause to this
package. I did an update on March 25 after which X would no longer work.
Checking all the packages I had updated that day did not at first reveal
anything as I failed to notice libdrm2.

Over the next couple of days, I tried kernels 2.6.26, 2.6.28, and 2.6.29 as
well as about six different versions of fglrx. I hadn't changed any of those
on the 25th, but I couldn't think of a better area of investigation.
Unfortunately, nothing helped.

Checking the list of updated packages again, I noticed libdrm2 this time.
Fetching version 2.3.1-2 from snapshot.debian.net, I installed it and X began
to work again. A big relief.

So, whatever changed in libdrm2, it affects all fglrx releases going back
about one year and also does not seem dependent on the kernel version. The
new libdrm2 does not break the OSS ATI drivers, radeon and radeonhd.
Unfortunately, my card has a very new RV770 chipset which is not at all
supported by X in Sid and only barely functional with X from experimental, so
I can't really use those drivers yet.

During my many X experiments trying to discover some new information, I would
let X run and while it was starting, I kept hitting the Magic SysRq key combo
for emergency sync (Alt-SysRq-S) again and again so that after a crash and
reboot I might have some log fragments to look at. It worked a little. When
X is trying to start the DRM subsystem I get these messages:

drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID PCI:1:0:0
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1

 repeats for many cardX values

drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card14
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1
(WW) fglrx(0): Failed to open DRM connection
(--) fglrx(0): Video RAM: 524288 kByte, Type: GDDR3
(EE) fglrx(0): [FB] Can not get FB MC address range.

I don't know if any of those are useful, but that is the only DRM related
information from the log. I can attach the whole log if it might be useful.

Using libdrm 2.3.1-2, a successful X log looks like:

drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 11, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID PCI:1:0:0
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 11, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 11
drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports PCI:1:0:0
(II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so
(II) GLX: Initialized DRI GL provider for screen 0

Bug#521658: clamav: Please package clamdtop

2009-03-29 Thread Török Edwin
Package: clamav
Version: 0.95+dfsg-1
Severity: wishlist

ClamAV includes a tool called clamdtop that allows the monitoring
of local/remote clamds.

It is built automatically if libncurses5-dev is installed,
the program is called 'clamdtop' and it has an associated manpage 'clamdtop.1'.

I think the package should recommend clamav-daemon, but not depend on it
(since it can work with remote clamd too).

Bug#521659: tryton-server: postinst script unnecessarily resets configfile access rights

2009-03-29 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: tryton-server
Version: 1.0.3-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

postinst script for tryton-server chmod's configfile to 0644.

That setting is the default, however, so in reality it changes nothing
on a standard system.

On odd systems, however, the postinst overrules customizations done by
the local admin, which is bad.

In short: Please avoid setting access right of the configfile.

Or alternatively: please a) document the eforcing of specific access
rights, and b) make it possible for the local admin to override.

Kind regards, and thanks for your work maintaining this package,

 - Jonas

#521586: Simple error in a rules file can make a system unbootable from disk

It has been closed by m...@linux.it (Marco d'Itri).

Their explanation is attached below along with your original report.

The explanation given was :
So do not create rules with errors.

Here is what is in my /etc/udev/rules.d, coming from debian packages
(ie: I removed my personal ones, those are debian-distributed ones) :

025_libgphoto2.rules z60_hdparm.rules
025_logitechmouse.rules z60_libccid.rules
035_kino.rulesz60_libchipcard-tools.rules
70-persistent-cd.rulesz60_libfprint0.rules
70-persistent-net.rules z60_libpisock9.rules
77-nm-probe-modem-capabilities.rules z60_libsane-extras.rules
90-hal.rules z60_libsane.rules
libmtp8.rules z60_virtualbox-ose.rules
z60_alsa-utils.rules z60_xserver-xorg-input-wacom.rules

That means that quite a few packages can upload a broken rules file into
debian, which will end up in initrd and make systems unbootable (and
there are probably others which add rules files).

Sure, I discovered the problem on a personal file ; but it is much more
general: don't let the tree hide the forest.

Bug#444237: snowballz: crashes with X error

2009-03-29 Thread Simon Valiquette
Package: snowballz
Version: 0.9.5.1-2
Followup-For: Bug #444237

I also have pretty much the same problem than what was previously reported,
and I also use the i810 driver in X, so probably it is the same problem.

It also crash in my PowerPC, but with a completely different error message,
so I will soon send another email with this system.

Here follows the error messages I get on my x86 system, which is very
similar but not exactly the same.

Hi,

What's the exact package name? Is it just iscan?

 That's right.

OK, thanks, I'll add the check.

Hopefully we're at the end of the tunnel with this whole mess now, new

I haven't really followed the reasons, but it's a shame this mess had to
 happen.

Yeah. Could have been fixed last-minute before Lenny, but latency was
high.

FYI unstable should be the standard distribution when you upload a package.

Really?! zOMG! How did we all get through NM not realising that!

Why did you upload this package in experimental ?

Until Sat, 28 Mar 2009 15:29:38 (i.e. a day before this bug) xfconf,
which it depends on, was stuck in NEW along with other key parts of xfce
4.6.0. Rather than break unstable for a long time whilst NEW processing
takes place we took the decision to stage it all in experimental.

Please upload this package in unstable.

Of course now it's gone through NEW, we will upload everything to
unstable soon.

Bug#521661: clamav-daemon: debconf questions

2009-03-29 Thread Török Edwin
Package: clamav-daemon
Version: 0.95+dfsg-1
Severity: minor

The following configuration options don't have a corresponding debconf question:
DetectPUA/ExcludePUA/IncludePUA

Maybe this question should be asked at priority low.

Also the wording for this debconf question Do you want to enable mail
scanning? [1] makes you believe that ClamAV is not able to extract MIME parts
correctly. This is no longer the case (and hasn't been for quite some time).

In fact turning off ScanMail turns off all type 4 signatures, and url-based
heuristic phishing detection. I think the debconf question shouldn't recommend
turning off ScanMail.

[1] It is recommended that you use a separate unpacker to extract any MIME
parts of email messages if you want
to scan email.

Bug#517681: input-wacom: buttons do not work when pad set to non-core

However, when done so the tablet buttons do not work.

I would rather appreciate if the pad was translated into plain scroll
events so that it could be used with any program as a core pointer
device, both the pad and the buttons.

This also is a question that you'd be best to take up on the upstream
list. I don't have a tablet with pads, so I can't confirm or deny
whether this is expected, or a bug for your particular tablet. If
you want to change the current behaviour, you'll definitely need to
convince upstream first in any case.

There are many eyes there, probably even some with the same tablet
as you. It really is the best place to report anything that isn't
specific to the Debian packaging. We don't want to fork this from
them if it isn't critically urgent to do so, so we aren't usually
going to 'lead' on any changes like that without discussion there
first.

Cheers,
Ron

are you willing to prepare a fixed package for lenny, or should I prepare an

point-release, but/and of course I'd be even happier if you'd do it :-)

Pere, can we link this munin graph which so nicely shows the effects of the

Bug#482826: [Linuxwacom-discuss] Bug#482826: xserver-xorg-input-wacom: Mouse device wrecks input system

2009-03-29 Thread Ron

Hi,

I'm relaxing the severity of this bug now, partly because I'm not
entirely convinced that it really is a problem in the wacom driver
alone anymore, it seems to be a combination of players, and likely
centered on a problem in the xorg code that didn't appear to get
fixed for lenny -- and partly because the consequences of being
wrong about that are no longer more dire and permanent than the
benefits to people who need the things that do work better in
the newer code.

The new xorg should be with us RSN, so I'll probably give you
another poke to check on this again when that happens :)

Cheers,
Ron

Package: libgl1-mesa-dev
Version: 7.4~rc1-1
Severity: normal

X.org from mid 2008 (commit d6b8d9eaffaf3f976db330bc35da3d30eb656bac)
checks for DRI support looking for the dri.pc added to Mesa also in mid
2008. However, the Debian packaging scripts for Mesa 7.4 do not install
the dri.pc file generated during the build.

This means that the next release of the xserver-xorg-core will not be
able to build. I'm pretty sure handling it just like the gl.pc file
should be fine.

Below system information might be wrong, because the bug-reporting
machine isn't the machine where this was actually noticed.

I think that version had a ~/.me-tv/me-tv.config file where the settings are

xine.video_driver. It might be set to something like xv, try xshm.

Apparently the following line in the startup file still triggers it:

Commenting it out makes the problem disappear.

Bug#521669: abcde: Support TPE2 tag for multi/various artists CDs

2009-03-29 Thread Richard van den Berg
Package: abcde
Version: 2.3.99.6-1

I recently started using iTunes on my mp3 collection created by abcde.
iTunes expects the TPE2 id3v2 tag to be set on multi/various artists albums.
It would be great if abcde could set this tag to Various Artists when a

Bug#521650: me-tv will not start at all after the initial channel scan - and never after

2009-03-29 Thread Takis Diakoumis
what i actually just did was change my repo to unstable.

this brought in an upgraded me-tv package and deps as follows:

Upgraded the following packages:
me-tv (0.5.33-3) to 0.7.16-1

Installed the following packages:
libgnome-vfsmm-2.6-1c2a (2.24.0-2)
libgnomecanvasmm-2.6-1c2a (2.22.0-1)
libgnomemm-2.6-1c2 (2.24.0-2)
libgnomeuimm-2.6-1c2a (2.24.0-2)
xine-ui (0.99.5+cvs20070914-2.1)

the issue does not exist in v0.7.16-1 so i'm rather pleased.

thanks

for something like xine.video_driver. It might be set to something

Bug#521668: postinst

The problem seemed trivial, so I tried to workaround by doing this:
# aptitude purge clamav-milter
# dpkg --unpack /var/cache/apt/archives/clamav-milter_0.95+dfsg-1_amd64.deb
# vi /var/lib/dpkg/info/clamav-milter.postinst
add this line below CLAMAVMILTERCONF:

# apt-get -f install

1 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 0B of additional disk space will be used.
Setting up clamav-milter (0.95+dfsg-1) ...

But it just hanged there, so I ctrl-C, and tried again:
^Cdpkg: error processing clamav-milter (--configure):

Errors were encountered while processing:
 clamav-milter
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Setting up clamav-milter (0.95+dfsg-1) ...
Replacing config file /etc/clamav/clamav-milter.conf with new version

Again it hanged there.
The fix is not trivial, so I'm giving up here and wait for you to fix it ;)

2009-03-29 Thread Simon Valiquette
Package: snowballz
Version: 0.9.5.1-2
Followup-For: Bug #444237

As promised, here are my second email for PowerPC.

Well, finally the problem on my PowerPC system was not related with
the snowballz package at all and was simply resolved by reinstalling
python-pygame (I have no idea what has gone wrong, but anyway).

At least it explains why the error message was different.

Still, I get some minor error, so since I am already posting I repport
them here just in case it could be useful:

~ snowballz
/usr/share/games/snowballz/font.py:3: UserWarning:

The rabbyt.fonts module is deprecated and will be removed in a future version
of rabbyt. I recommend using pyglet for font rendering.

If you still want to use pygame fonts, check out the ``pygame_font.py`` example
included with rabbyt.

The rabbyt.vertexarrays module is deprecated and will be removed in a future
version of rabbyt.

I have no idea why it said that I have no sound card, but the sound does
work properly in the game on PPC. Anyway, this seems harmless and this
problem apparently doesn't appears on PowerPC.

Bug#521498: (no subject)

2009-03-29 Thread Grammostola Rosea

   from ardour.org

   about 2.8

Distributable VST Support (most for packagers)

Ardour now uses the Vestige header file to allow compilation with VST
support on Linux. We believe, given the reverse engineering of the
Vestige header, that there is no more need to fetch the VST SDK from
Steinberg in order to build Ardour with VST support, and it is possible
to distribute all source code associated with VST support. This means
that distributions are free to compile and release packages of Ardour
with VST support. Linux Packagers: *please* do not call such packages
Ardour. They should *always* be named in a way to make it clear that
they contain VST support - Ardour with VST support is not actually a
Linux program at all (its a small Windows executable that is linked
against some Linux libraries, run by a shell script that invokes Wine).
It is critical that users have the choice to install 1 or the other (or
both, if possible). To repeat, Ardour with VST support should not be
packaged as Ardour. I suggest ArdourVST (or ardourvst, for the
case-insensitive). Please note: VST is a trademark of Steinberg Soft-
und Hardware GmbH.

You can workaround this failure by adding -w x to the failing command
line. It will disable the warning (which is an error because of
-warn-error). You can also remove -warn-error (your call).

The proper solution would be to ask upstream to rename the file into a
proper module name.

Uhm, I didnt use fluxbox for about 4 years now - can you tell me how I
can define such a binding to reproduce the bug?
Additionally - did you test 0.6.4? Does that happen there too?

The same thing happens with 0.6.4. To reproduce the bug

1. put the following line into your ~/.fluxbox/keys

Control Mod1 Z :Exec xterm

2. start pokerth, start a local 2-player game

3. press Ctrl+Alt+Z, go back to pokerth window

4. fold

The bot will now be declared winner. The game will pause.

Even more oddly, if xine is playing something in the background, this
sometimes happens every round, not only at the end of those during which I
press Ctrl+Alt+Z. But I can't reproduce that reliably.

Btw., my fluxbox version is 1.0.0+deb1-8, current lenny version.

Bug#491963: Clarification needed

2009-03-29 Thread Adrian Knoth
Hi!

I'm not sure if I understand this correctly, but shouldn't alsa-seq and
jack-whatever be two completely different things?

The alsa MIDI ports should show up under ALSA in qjackctl, whereas
jack-midi is put into MIDI.

So running jackd should not prevent qsynth from accessing alsa-seq MIDI
ports.

If you need to bridge between jack-midi and ALSA-midi, there's a2jmidid:

   http://home.gna.org/a2jmidid/

Can you clarify what's wrong?

Bug#521257: Use of uninitialized value in bitwise or (|) at /usr/share/lintian/lib/Lintian/Command.pm line 308.

2009-03-29 Thread Michael Tautschnig
 Michael Tautschnig m...@debian.org writes:

I've just checked and I think both the file one can download from the
bugreport and my local copy here _do_ have a newline, but my methods for
checking that might not be as effective. Anyway, I've attached a freshly
generated index file, this time gzipped to make sure my mail agent
doesnt harm it and I've also BCC'ed Russ to avoid any extra loops.

Yup. There's a trailing newline -- that wasn't the problem.

I'm a little disturbed by the degree to which the spacing indentation
changes in your index. That in and of itself shouldn't cause Lintian any
problems, but I don't understand why it's happening. It doesn't do this
for me when I run tar -tvf on a source tarball, and the manipulations that
Lintian does shouldn't change the spacing of the columns. I'm not sure if
that's perhaps a sign of some other issue or just nothing.

Ok, what happens here if I just do a plain tar -tvf is that indentation
increases whenever the file size doesn't fit into that particular column
anymore, like this:

-rw--- michael/staff 895232 2009-03-23 17:22 clamav-0.95/database/daily.cvd
-rw--- michael/staff 20091559 2009-02-15 22:47 clamav-0.95/database/main.cvd

That seems sensible to me, it's just that the index file apparently has a
different sorting of the entries, therefore the indentation feels strange.

I *think* I might have fixed your problem, though. Could you try the
following patch against your /usr/share/lintian directory and see if it
makes the problem go away? (Although if this did fix it, I don't know why
 the problem wasn't reproducible.)

[...]

No sorry, that doesn't fix the problem, actually it seems it didn't change
anything.

Best,
Michael

Bug#520824: closed by Eduard Bloch bl...@debian.org (Bug#520824: fixed in apt-cacher-ng 0.3.5-2)

2009-03-29 Thread Stuart Pook

hi Eduard

   * Added ftp: as possible pattern when looking for good mirrors in

It still doesn't work for me.

: root; dpkg-reconfigure apt-cacher-ng
Stopping apt-cacher-ng: apt-cacher-ng.
Starting apt-cacher-ng: apt-cacher-ng.
: root; ls -l /etc/apt-cacher-ng/backends_*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2009-03-29 13:46 /etc/apt-cacher-ng/backends_ubuntu

:; dpkg -s apt-cacher-ng | grep Version
Version: 0.3.6-1

If I run /var/lib/dpkg/info/apt-cacher-ng.postinst by hand I see

+ gen_mirror_list /etc/apt-cacher-ng/backends_debian
+ test -r /etc/apt/sources.list
+ test -s /etc/apt-cacher-ng/backends_debian
+ true
+ grep '^deb' '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/*' /etc/apt/sources.list
+ read a b c
+ echo ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/
+ grep -q '^\(http\|ftp\):'
+ '[' u = '' ']'
++ echo ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/
++ sed -e 's,http://,,; s, ftp://,,; s,/debian$,,; s,/debian/$,,; '
+ site=ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org
+ test -n ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org
+ zgrep -q 'Site: ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org$'
/usr/lib/apt-cacher-ng/deb_mirrors.gz

ftp.fr.debian.org is in deb_mirrors.gz but without the ftp://;.

:; zgrep ftp.fr.debian.org /usr/lib/apt-cacher-ng/deb_mirrors.gz | grep -i site
Site: ftp.fr.debian.org

I think that there is an extra space, in s, ftp, in the line site=$( echo $b |
sed -e 's,http://,,; s, ftp://,,; s,/debian$,,; s,/debian/$,,; ' ) in
/var/lib/dpkg/info/apt-cacher-ng.postinst

If I remove this space and rerun dpkg-reconfigure apt-cacher-ng then
/etc/apt-cacher-ng/backends_debian is no longer empty

:; cat /etc/apt-cacher-ng/backends_debian
ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/

ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/
ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/
ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/
ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/

That is probably not the correct solution to the problem as even after this
change /etc/cron.daily/apt-cacher-ng still doesn't work.

Bug#521675: Only root can play sound in pulseaudio

2009-03-29 Thread Lancelot du Lac
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 0.9.14-2
Severity: important

Yesterday I did a full-upgrade and there was an update of pulseaudio. Since
then, all sounds which depend on pulseaudio can be played only as root.
For example, kaffeine only has sound as root when the xine engine plays through
pulseaudio, but it works just fine as a user when the xine engine plays through
alsa.

I tried to add my user to each of the 3 pulse groups, no effect.
I tried to disactivate high priority in daemon.conf, no effect.

Starting the pulse server as root seems to solve the issue.
Now I'm going to try to start it as a daemon at boot-time.
Yet it seems to create security issues.

Bug#521672: FTBFS with linux-image 2.6.29

2009-03-29 Thread Dmitry E. Oboukhov
Package: loop-aes-source
Severity: grave
Version: 3.2e-1

I have been using loop-aes since linux 2.6.18. Recently I tried to use
kernel 2.6.29 (now i am using the 2.6.28), but I could not build
loop-aes module for new kernel.

Usually I use the command like as

module-assistant -l 2.6.29-1-686 a-i loop-aes-source

but with 2.6.29 (sid) kernel build has failed.

Build-log has been attached.

Bug#521683: psadwatchd mail dependency

2009-03-29 Thread Franck Joncourt
Package: psad
Version: 2.1.5-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Psad does not have any dependency on mailutils | bsd-mailx | exim4 |
mail-transport-agent.

Having none of mailutils and bsd-mailx packages installed, I do not have
the mail command available on my system.

It makes impossible to psadwatchd to send emails to let the user know a
service has been restarted.

The solution is to work as done for fwknopd/knopwatchd, add a dependency
on exim4 | mail-transport-agent and use sendmail. Michael has already
added this feature to psad, so it just has to be continued for
psadwatchd. I plan to update the deamon since the new -O option is
almost working.

Regards,
