Bug#547790: udev net.agent does not record add action for tun/tap devices
--On 24 September 2009 01:40:03 +0200 Marco d'Itri m...@linux.it wrote: When a tun/tap device is added, /lib/udev/net.agent ignores the event, and the appropriate configuration line in /etc/network/interface is not executed. Line 70 of net.agent says these interfaces generate hotplug events *after* they are brought up, however at least in respect of tun/tap devices, investigation shows that this is not true. This is correct, so it looks like the driver was fixed in the past years. I am inclined to change net.agent in the next release, but: - I fear this may break existing configurations - I cannot think about any really useful use case for configuring tun/tap devices using ifupdown (i.e. a situation which would be easier to manage than by just using iproute) Google suggests a fair number of articles using this /etc/network/interfaces to make ssh tunneling (with 'ssh -w') work at least semi-automatically (try a google search for '/etc/network/interfaces tun0'). I believe ifup / ifdown will already work (with a static config in /etc/network/interfaces). They just won't be called automatically with allow-hotplug lines by udev. You need this patch to automate it properly. Of course you can cope with typing 'iproute' etc.. What most people seem to do on debian is just 'ifup' the interface. As ifup'ing and interface which is already up does nothing, I think the change should be mostly harmless. -- Alex Bligh -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#547969: ivy jar not added to ant lib
I would also like to see Ivy added to ant/lib. Ivy is a special case in that it is a sister project to Ant and people expect Ivy to work by default when installing it. I find a dpkg configure option an acceptable alternative to blindly symlinking ivy.jar to the ant/lib director, as in, ask the user if he wants to do it (defaulting to yes). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#548163: gucharmap: cannot view partial font
Package: gucharmap Version: 1:2.22.3-2 Severity: normal Hello I was seeing characters rendered so badly I was wondering if I have a broken font or the application rendering the fonts is broken. At first sight these characters would be from the Han range so I tried looking at that range in gucharmap. At first glance I can see that I do have a font with decent glyphs in that range because every font has them in gucharmap .. but they are the same for almost all fonts. For example, the Sazanami fonts certainly should have some glyphs in Han range but when I select Sazanami Gothic I get same Sung/Mincho glyphs (not Gothic) as I do for fonts that are meant for Latin and probably do not have any Han ideographs at all. This applies pretty much for any font that sounds like it could be a CJK font. This is certainly a problem, the Han range is large and few fonts cover it completely but it seems that gucharmap refuses to show Han glyphs from fonts that do not cover the full range. I guess this is not limited to Han range. Latin and Cyrillic ranges also contain characters for multiple languages and if the font is developed for a particular language it may miss a few glyphs in some range. In Han this is most visible because it contains characters for both Japanese and Chinese (and both traditional and simplified Chinese) and some shared characters that are styled differently for each language so authors of fonts for one language often do not bother to include (hundreds of) glyphs used only in the other because the shared glyphs would look wrong with the other language and nobody in their right mind would suggest to use the font for both languages. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.3 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'testing'), (300, 'unstable'), (290, 'stable-i386'), (280, 'testing-i386'), (270, 'unstable-i386'), (1, 'experimental-i386'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gucharmap depends on: ii gconf2 2.26.2-3 GNOME configuration database syste ii libc6 2.9-25 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libglib2.0-02.20.5-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.16.6-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtk2.0-bin 2.12.12-1~lenny1 The programs for the GTK+ graphica ii libgucharmap6 1:2.22.3-2 Unicode browser widget library (sh ii libpango1.0-0 1.24.5-1 Layout and rendering of internatio Versions of packages gucharmap recommends: pn yelp none (no description available) gucharmap suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#548156: grub-installer: No grub2 when using gpt partition schema
Am Donnerstag, den 24.09.2009, 10:05 +0200 schrieb Marcel D.A. Koopmans: Package: grub-installer Severity: important I use 2 disks with GPT partition schemes On those I create 2 RAID-1 partitions RAID #1 ( mirror ) contains /boot RAID #2 ( mirror ) contains LVM with other partitions Using these settings no longer gives me the option of selecting GRUB2 - this is the real bug If your /boot is on GPT you got never asked that question, because GRUB Legacy just doestn't support it. So this isn't at all a bug. By the way GRUB 2 is now the default for everyone, though that question should still be asked in expert mode and if GRUB Legacy can handle /boot. And GRUB Legacy fails as it cannot handle /boot on mdadm with gpt partition schemes. Why do you think GRUB Legacy was choosen by grub-installer? The syslog would be useful, escpecially the grub-installer part. I thing this is an important bug as we soon have 2 gibibyte disks and the default msdos partition scheme cannot address those! You mean 2 TiB, not 2 GiB. If you use GPT you must create on all disks where your /boot is, a `Reserved BIOS boot area', then shown as biosgrub. A few MiBs are enough. They don't need to be all exactly the same size and they don't need to be at the same sectors on the disks. And you must create the RAID over a partition not over the whole disk, even with msdos partition scheme. I just tried it myself with todays amd64 businesscard. 100 MiB for biosgrub, rest for RAID 1 for an ext4 / It installed fine, though grub-installer still used `grub-install (hd0)' instead of (md0) -- Felix Zielcke Proud Debian Maintainer -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#393521: my confusion about package name
I was looking up bug reports for the epiphany browser, when I ended up here. So, here is one more vote for a change of this situation. I think that it's resonable to change the games package name to epiphany-game and let the browser package still have the old name epiphany-browser. Then no package would have the name epiphany, and people blindly installing packages would get an error when they try to do 'aptitude install ephiphany' or trying to report errors. The good thing with this is that all users has to learn to use 'apt-cache' to check which package they really should install. :) It isn't difficult to change a package name, it just takes time. As Jon wrote, it's just a set of conflicts/replace/provides on the epiphany package, and after two releases the name change is done. 100 MiB for biosgrub, rest for RAID 1 for an ext4 / It installed fine, though grub-installer still used `grub-install (hd0)' instead of (md0) attachment: marcel_koopmans.vcf

I'm in UTC+2; since there is a time difference of approximately two hours (modulo a few seconds -- it certainly took me more than five seconds to find the power cord and boot the system again), I guess that makes it clear that something somewhere is confused about timezones. This also makes it clear why Ted (being on a negative UTC offset) doesn't see this: His timestamp is always in the past, not in the future as ours. Additionally, this check is a severe nuisance for me. I frequently hack around with rescue systems and do not bother with time zones while just fixing a single file. Therefore, I expect that all times may be two hours late or fast after such an operation, and having a head- and consoleless system hang on boot just because of such an issue is a grave issue. I think that this timestamp check is too picky and should be removed completely or relaxed in a way that it does only return a non-zero exit code if the difference is more than could be explained by a timezone issue. Additionally, a bad RTC should not be a showstopper for running Linux. Greetings Marc -- - Marc Haber | I don't trust Computers. it is not possible to use CHECK_FORK_GETPID implementation. It is related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=508259 In that bug, the fix was to add a NSS_NO_FORK_CHECK=1 to Linux2.4.mk. Wouldn't adding the same to FreeBSD.mk be the proper thing to do ? I am unsure (it would be Linux2.6.mk with kernel != linux anyway). The CHECK_FORK_GETPID implementation does not work for GNU/kFreeBSD due to fact threads are process clones, i.e. the getpid() in all threads does not return the same number. With the patch which enabled CHECK_FORK_PTHREAD implementation, the iceweasel/galeon is able to browse https sites. As far as I understand, the NSS_NO_FORK_CHECK=1 would be possible only on 3.12.4+ and it only dissables the checking. Bug#548177: java-common: policy not clear for third party libraries
Package: java-common Version: 0.33 Severity: normal Hi, I have some third party jar files to install, which don't seem to fit in with the instructions in the Debian java policy. Policy says place all libraries in /usr/share/java, but that doesn't appear to work. The libraries in question are the digitial infrastructure for the Australian Tax Office, see csi.business.gov.au/ and http://pki.ato.gov.au/atocdia/welcome.htm . They've gone to all the trouble of making it Linux compatible, see http://csi.business.gov.au/CSI/FrequentlyAskedQuestions.asp#Can_I_use_the_CSI_with_an_unsupp , so we should do our part to make sure it's easy for Debian business users to install the files. The Linux material is located at http://csi.business.gov.au/CSI/CsiInstallForLinux.tar.gz, which contains instructions and a few jar files. The most pertinent instructions are: 4. Copy the csi.jar file to the $JAVA_HOME/lib/ext directory. NOTE: $JAVA_HOME is a user defined environment variable denoting the path to the java installation directory. 5. Copy the local_policy.jar, jce1_2_2.jar and the US_export_policy.jar files to the $JAVA_HOME/lib/security directory. Now lib/ext and lib/security seem to be part of the jre debian packages, for instance sun-java6-jre. I can for instance copy csi.jar into /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.16/jre/lib/ext and copy jce1_2_2.jar into /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.16/jre/lib/security (local_policy.jar and US_export_policy.jar are already there, I don't know if the ATO really needs their own version). After doing this (and chmod a+r), the installation seems to work (from http://pki.ato.gov.au/atocdia/welcome.htm the browser loads up the java plugin and proceeds to manage Australian Tax Digitial Certificates). But I'm sure it's not strictly correct to dump random jar files into sun-java6-jre's file structure. That's why we have the Debian java policy, for installing java application and library packages. But policy (file:///usr/share/doc/java-common/debian-java-policy/x105.html ) just says place any jar files into /usr/share/java. When I place csi.jar and jce1_2_2.jar there (instead of jre/lib), it doesn't work, the class files are not located. I gather policy is intended to work with full Debian packaging, that is something will be done by dh_java at installation time to register the jar files. Is that correct? What is the best way to handle this situation? I suspect it's just a java FAQ. Should instructions be added, say to /usr/share/doc/java-common/README.Debian explaining how a user (i.e. not a Debian package maintainer) should deal with the installation of third party jar files? Or an entry in the Debian Java FAQ ? Keep in mind the users of this software may not be Java gurus, they'll just be business-oriented linux enthusiasts who want to deal with the Tax man without lowering standards (by using MS Windows). They might never have to deal with java files outside of this application. Bug#548156: grub-installer: No grub2 when using gpt partition schema

Bug#547301: [patch] Bug#547301: problems with https on GNU/kFreeBSD

Is there an easy way to prove that CHECK_FORK_PTHREAD does what is expected for us ? I think it would be best asking upstream. Do you have a bugzilla account? It would be easier for you to followup this issue, as you are more prone to test things ;) Mike -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#545674: tomcat6: Crashes when trying to run a web app, including admin
Hi Jakub, This was a temporary issue with the way I installed jars both to /usr/share/java and /usr/share/maven-repo. In an old version of maven-repo-helper, the script mh_installjar was copying the jars to /usr/share/maven-repo and a link was created in /usr/share/java. I'm doing now the opposite, as it respects more the way things were done before. So this situation is only temporary, if your package is rebuilt against the latest version of maven-repo-helper, then this problem should not appear. Ludovic Jakub Skoczen a écrit : Hi Ludovic, Enabling all security privileges to /usr/share/maven-repo/ did the trick. Still, I don't fully understand why this is needed - shouldn't the maven repository be only used for building stuff (like source packages)? Why does a running tomcat instance even know about it and tries to load jar files from there? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
