Bug#548137: totem: Cannot play .mov files

An update between 1 and 2 weeks ago has caused totem to stop playing .mov
 files.
These are files from my digital camera. Totem (gstreamer) played them fine
 before,
now nothing happens when I open the file with totem.

I found that that if I use the following command totem will play the file.

 gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///home/mark/Desktop/100_0817.mov

Could you upload or attach a mov file that doesn't work?

Does

$ gst-launch-0.10 playbin2 uri=file:///home/mark/Desktop/100_0817.mov

work too?

Bug#548141: xmlto uses bashisms

2009-09-24 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: xmlto
Version: 0.0.23-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

the latest upload of xmlto produces a lot of errors with /bin/sh not
being bash (the default is now dash, thus severity serious):

E.g. a test compilation of ConsoleKit 0.3.1 looks like this:

A trivial fix is to use #!/bin/bash as shebang in /usr/bin/xmlto, ideally
though xmlto is fixed to not use any bashisms.

Michael

hamcrest 1.2 is out. It should be packaged. Problem is that JUnit 4
Build-Depends on hamcrest and breaks with hamcrest 1.2. In JUnit GIT

reverted all changes related to it.

Hi,

please explain why rng is too confusing in choosing the severity. There
is a list of available severities, a sensible default and a explanation
of what they mean available via help. So far no one complained about it
being too confusing.

Please also explain why you think grave is the appropriate severity
for this bugreport.

Cheers,

I also experienced this problem. The fix was as simple as recompiling
the graphicsmagick source package so that it uses libxml 2.6 instead of 2.4:

$ apt-get -b source libgraphicsmagick1-dev

Bug#547790: udev net.agent does not record add action for tun/tap devices

2009-09-24 Thread Alex Bligh

--On 24 September 2009 01:40:03 +0200 Marco d'Itri m...@linux.it wrote:

When a tun/tap device is added, /lib/udev/net.agent ignores the event,
and the appropriate configuration line in /etc/network/interface is not
executed. Line 70 of net.agent says these interfaces generate hotplug
events *after* they are brought up, however at least in respect of
tun/tap devices, investigation shows that this is not true.

This is correct, so it looks like the driver was fixed in the past
years.

I am inclined to change net.agent in the next release, but:
- I fear this may break existing configurations
- I cannot think about any really useful use case for configuring
tun/tap devices using ifupdown (i.e. a situation which would be
easier to manage than by just using iproute)

Google suggests a fair number of articles using this /etc/network/interfaces
to make ssh tunneling (with 'ssh -w') work at least semi-automatically
(try a google search for '/etc/network/interfaces tun0').

I believe ifup / ifdown will already work (with a static config in
/etc/network/interfaces). They just won't be called automatically
with allow-hotplug lines by udev.

You need this patch to automate it properly. Of course you can cope
with typing 'iproute' etc.. What most people seem to do on debian
is just 'ifup' the interface. As ifup'ing and interface which is
already up does nothing, I think the change should be mostly
harmless.

On Wed, 23 Sep 2009, Raphael Geissert wrote:

security is an attribute of the $other XML element

Here you assign the attribute without caring about the sub-element,

Bug#503598: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the awffull package

2009-09-24 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of awffull and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the awffull Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de fr it ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the awffull package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Wednesday, September
30, 2009. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Saturday, September 19, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Thursday, September 24, 2009 : send this notice
Wednesday, September 30, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Thursday, October 01, 2009 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Thursday, October 08, 2009 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#548148: initramfs-tools: add verbose debug output to run_scripts function

2009-09-24 Thread Marc Haber
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.93.4
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

please consider adding the following obvious patch to
initramfs-tools/scripts/functions:

--- functions.orig 2009-09-24 10:42:11.0 +0200
+++ functions   2009-09-24 10:42:13.0 +0200

get_prereqs
reduce_prereqs
+ if [ ${verbose} = y ]; then
+ echo Hook $initdir run list: $runlist

call_scripts
 }

Unfortunately, this is untested since I couldn't figure out to
actually have the verbose variable set. Giving verbose on the kernel
command line doesn't seem to do it.

Greetings
Marc

I should also add that every example I've googled does not have

only find this bug), so this won't affect anyone (well, anyone
using a config like any ones in google) simply because the
device won't be taken live when ifup with an allow=hotplug line.
To be affected, they would need an auto/allow-hotplug line in
/etc/interfaces, I think.

Bug#492536: No new package

Hey,

The package is maintained but I don't intend to prepare a new upload
fixing _only_ this minor spelling mistake.

While I was able to reproduce this when you reported this I can't anymore.

I think either a db upgrade or a OOo upgrade fixed it.

Is there anything else shall I have to do?

Bug#548156: grub-installer: No grub2 when using gpt partition schema

2009-09-24 Thread Marcel D.A. Koopmans
Package: grub-installer
Severity: important

I use 2 disks with GPT partition schemes
On those I create 2 RAID-1 partitions
RAID #1 ( mirror ) contains /boot
RAID #2 ( mirror ) contains LVM with other partitions

Using these settings no longer gives me the option of selecting GRUB2 - this
is the real bug
And GRUB Legacy fails as it cannot handle /boot on mdadm with gpt partition
schemes.

I thing this is an important bug as we soon have 2 gibibyte disks and the
default msdos partition scheme cannot address those!

With kind regrads,
  Marcel

Hello,

the problematic part is CHECK_FORK() in nss.

Under GNU/kFreeBSD threads are process clones,
similarly as under linux 2.4 series,
it is not possible to use CHECK_FORK_GETPID implementation.

It is related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=508259

Thanks again for NSPR_LOG_* hints.

Bug#547969: ivy jar not added to ant lib

2009-09-24 Thread Patrick McFarland
I would also like to see Ivy added to ant/lib. Ivy is a special case
in that it is a sister
project to Ant and people expect Ivy to work by default when installing it.

I find a dpkg configure option an acceptable alternative to blindly
symlinking ivy.jar to
the ant/lib director, as in, ask the user if he wants to do it
(defaulting to yes).

Scapy doesn't really seems maintained nowadays, do you need help?

 Hello,

the problematic part is CHECK_FORK() in nss.

Under GNU/kFreeBSD threads are process clones,
similarly as under linux 2.4 series,
it is not possible to use CHECK_FORK_GETPID implementation.

 It is related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=508259

In that bug, the fix was to add a NSS_NO_FORK_CHECK=1 to Linux2.4.mk.
Wouldn't adding the same to FreeBSD.mk be the proper thing to do ?

Bug#548163: gucharmap: cannot view partial font

2009-09-24 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: gucharmap
Version: 1:2.22.3-2
Severity: normal

Hello

I was seeing characters rendered so badly I was wondering if I have a
broken font or the application rendering the fonts is broken.

At first sight these characters would be from the Han range so I tried
looking at that range in gucharmap.

At first glance I can see that I do have a font with decent glyphs in
that range because every font has them in gucharmap .. but they are the
same for almost all fonts.

For example, the Sazanami fonts certainly should have some glyphs in Han
range but when I select Sazanami Gothic I get same Sung/Mincho glyphs
(not Gothic) as I do for fonts that are meant for Latin and probably do
not have any Han ideographs at all.
This applies pretty much for any font that sounds like it could be a CJK
font.

This is certainly a problem, the Han range is large and few fonts cover
it completely but it seems that gucharmap refuses to show Han glyphs from
fonts that do not cover the full range.

I guess this is not limited to Han range. Latin and Cyrillic ranges also
contain characters for multiple languages and if the font is developed
for a particular language it may miss a few glyphs in some range.

In Han this is most visible because it contains characters for both
Japanese and Chinese (and both traditional and simplified Chinese) and
some shared characters that are styled differently for each language so
authors of fonts for one language often do not bother to include
(hundreds of) glyphs used only in the other because the shared glyphs
would look wrong with the other language and nobody in their right mind
would suggest to use the font for both languages.

Bug#548166: xfce4-terminal: emailing by mutt from openoffice fails

2009-09-24 Thread michal palenik
Package: xfce4-terminal
Version: 0.4.0-1
Severity: important

openoffice file-send by mutt option is not using when xfce4-terminal is
x-terminal-emulator
changing x-terminal-emulator to xterm or konsole makes this working

openoffice calls something like x-terminal-emulator -e mutt -e 'set
from=my name' -a filename

i assume the problematic parts are spaces in the arguments (after first
-e switch) which are inproperly handed.

(probably unproper) changes needed to make it work:

link x-terminal-emulator to /usr/bin/xfce4-terminal instead of
/usr/bin/xfce4-terminal.wrapper (the wrapper changes -e switch to -x,
probably has problems with spaces in argument -e, both terminal and mutt
are using -e option)

change senddoc (/usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.1/program/senddoc in my case)
mutt part
from
${FROM:+-e} ${FROM:+set from=\${FROM}\}
to
${FROM:+-e} ${FROM:+\set from='${FROM}'\}

and save ${MAILER} ... into a variable and then
call x-terminal-emulator with -e $cmd option instead of the value
itself.

however, i have no idea what is affected by these changes.

Since the upgrade to KDE4, kdm does not let one log into my guest account
without a password any more,
even though /etc/kde4/kdm/kdrmc contains the lines
  NoPassEnable=true
  NoPassUsers=guest
which are consistent with the display in systemsettings.

Cheers,

  Jérémie

Yes I have try to add swiotlb=force to my grup menu.lst

It should go on the Linux kernel command line, not the hypervisor
command line e.g.:

 domU:
 # cat /boot/grub/menu.lst

 pciback.hide=(03:05.0)(03:06.0)(03:07.0)

Those pciback.hide bits are spurious in a domU I should think.

Bug#548156: grub-installer: No grub2 when using gpt partition schema

I use 2 disks with GPT partition schemes
 On those I create 2 RAID-1 partitions
 RAID #1 ( mirror ) contains /boot
RAID #2 ( mirror ) contains LVM with other partitions

Using these settings no longer gives me the option of selecting GRUB2 - this
 is the real bug

If your /boot is on GPT you got never asked that question, because GRUB
Legacy just doestn't support it.
So this isn't at all a bug.
By the way GRUB 2 is now the default for everyone, though that question
should still be asked in expert mode and if GRUB Legacy can
handle /boot.

And GRUB Legacy fails as it cannot handle /boot on mdadm with gpt partition
 schemes.

Why do you think GRUB Legacy was choosen by grub-installer? The syslog
would be useful, escpecially the grub-installer part.

I thing this is an important bug as we soon have 2 gibibyte disks and the
default msdos partition scheme cannot address those!

You mean 2 TiB, not 2 GiB.

If you use GPT you must create on all disks where your /boot is, a
`Reserved BIOS boot area', then shown as biosgrub.
A few MiBs are enough. They don't need to be all exactly the same size
and they don't need to be at the same sectors on the disks.

And you must create the RAID over a partition not over the whole disk,
even with msdos partition scheme.

I just tried it myself with todays amd64 businesscard.
100 MiB for biosgrub, rest for RAID 1 for an ext4 /
It installed fine, though grub-installer still used `grub-install (hd0)'
instead of (md0)

Hi Justin,

Can you give any more details about how you were able to trigger this bug?
I'm trying to find a suitable test case, but when I give a bogus
(unresolvable) hostname, cssh behaves appropriately.

If you're able to reproduce this, could you please send me the output of
cssh --debug?

Thank you,
Tony

Hi Justin,

I'm not able to reproduce the behavior when I use hostnames that resolve.
The issue appears to be that gethostbyname() fails for one or more the
names
given. Can you ssh to each of the hosts in your test case, and can you
provide some detail on how the host names are being resolved by your
system?

Duncan, would it be reasonable to check to see if gethostbyname($host) is
defined, and if not, simply return $host?

Thank you,
Tony

Hi,

It must have been one of the hosts was typo'd-- it is working now. But
in the past and now I maintain lists with cssh that I login to and if
one of the hosts has been decomissioned, it will abort the entire cssh
because of it, where before it would try to open it and if it fails, the
window would close or not open. Can the old functionality be restored?

Justin.

Bug#393521: my confusion about package name

2009-09-24 Thread Anders Jackson
I was looking up bug reports for the epiphany browser, when I ended up
here. So, here is one more vote for a change of this situation.

I think that it's resonable to change the games package name to
epiphany-game and let the browser package still have the old name
epiphany-browser. Then no package would have the name epiphany, and
people blindly installing packages would get an error when they try to
do 'aptitude install ephiphany' or trying to report errors.

The good thing with this is that all users has to learn to use
'apt-cache' to check which package they really should install. :)

It isn't difficult to change a package name, it just takes time. As Jon
wrote, it's just a set of conflicts/replace/provides on the epiphany
package, and after two releases the name change is done.

Yours
Anders Jackson

Okay, so I rebuilt e2fsprogs with that patch and let my laptop run out
of battery power. This is the output:

 Checking root file system...fsck from util-linux-ng 2.16
/dev/sda3: Superblock last write time (Mon Aug 10 01:39:53 2009,
now = Sun Aug 9 23:39:58 2009) is in the future.

I'm in UTC+2; since there is a time difference of approximately two
hours (modulo a few seconds -- it certainly took me more than five
seconds to find the power cord and boot the system again), I guess that
makes it clear that something somewhere is confused about timezones.

This also makes it clear why Ted (being on a negative UTC offset)
doesn't see this: His timestamp is always in the past, not in the
future as ours.

Additionally, this check is a severe nuisance for me. I frequently
hack around with rescue systems and do not bother with time zones
while just fixing a single file. Therefore, I expect that all times
may be two hours late or fast after such an operation, and having a
head- and consoleless system hang on boot just because of such an
issue is a grave issue.

I think that this timestamp check is too picky and should be removed
completely or relaxed in a way that it does only return a non-zero
exit code if the difference is more than could be explained by a
timezone issue.

Additionally, a bad RTC should not be a showstopper for running Linux.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#547301: [patch] Bug#547301: problems with https on GNU/kFreeBSD

2009-09-24 Thread Petr Salinger

it is not possible to use CHECK_FORK_GETPID implementation.

It is related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=508259

In that bug, the fix was to add a NSS_NO_FORK_CHECK=1 to Linux2.4.mk.
Wouldn't adding the same to FreeBSD.mk be the proper thing to do ?

I am unsure (it would be Linux2.6.mk with kernel != linux anyway).

The CHECK_FORK_GETPID implementation does not work for GNU/kFreeBSD
due to fact threads are process clones, i.e. the getpid() in all
threads does not return the same number.

With the patch which enabled CHECK_FORK_PTHREAD implementation,
the iceweasel/galeon is able to browse https sites.

As far as I understand, the NSS_NO_FORK_CHECK=1 would be possible
only on 3.12.4+ and it only dissables the checking.
Is there an easy way to prove that CHECK_FORK_PTHREAD
does what is expected for us ?

Petr

However, a RDF file is a mistake; there's universal agreement that

Bug#548177: java-common: policy not clear for third party libraries

2009-09-24 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: java-common
Version: 0.33
Severity: normal

Hi, I have some third party jar files to install, which don't seem to
fit in with the instructions in the Debian java policy. Policy says
place all libraries in /usr/share/java, but that doesn't appear to work.

The libraries in question are the digitial infrastructure for the
Australian Tax Office, see csi.business.gov.au/ and
http://pki.ato.gov.au/atocdia/welcome.htm . They've gone to all the
trouble of making it Linux compatible, see
http://csi.business.gov.au/CSI/FrequentlyAskedQuestions.asp#Can_I_use_the_CSI_with_an_unsupp
, so we should do our part to make sure it's easy for Debian business users to
install the files.

The Linux material is located at
http://csi.business.gov.au/CSI/CsiInstallForLinux.tar.gz, which
contains instructions and a few jar files.

The most pertinent instructions are:

4. Copy the csi.jar file to the $JAVA_HOME/lib/ext directory.

NOTE: $JAVA_HOME is a user defined environment variable denoting the
path to the java installation directory.

5. Copy the local_policy.jar, jce1_2_2.jar and the
US_export_policy.jar files to the $JAVA_HOME/lib/security directory.

Now lib/ext and lib/security seem to be part of the jre debian
packages, for instance sun-java6-jre. I can for instance copy
csi.jar into /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.16/jre/lib/ext and copy
jce1_2_2.jar into /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.16/jre/lib/security
(local_policy.jar and US_export_policy.jar are already there, I don't
know if the ATO really needs their own version). After doing this
(and chmod a+r), the installation seems to work (from
http://pki.ato.gov.au/atocdia/welcome.htm the browser loads up the
java plugin and proceeds to manage Australian Tax Digitial
Certificates).

But I'm sure it's not strictly correct to dump random jar files into
sun-java6-jre's file structure. That's why we have the Debian java
policy, for installing java application and library packages.

But policy
(file:///usr/share/doc/java-common/debian-java-policy/x105.html ) just
says place any jar files into /usr/share/java. When I place csi.jar
and jce1_2_2.jar there (instead of jre/lib), it doesn't work, the
class files are not located.

I gather policy is intended to work with full Debian packaging, that
is something will be done by dh_java at installation time to register
the jar files. Is that correct?

What is the best way to handle this situation? I suspect it's just a
java FAQ. Should instructions be added, say to
/usr/share/doc/java-common/README.Debian explaining how a user (i.e.
not a Debian package maintainer) should deal with the installation of
third party jar files? Or an entry in the Debian Java FAQ ?

Keep in mind the users of this software may not be Java gurus, they'll
just be business-oriented linux enthusiasts who want to deal with the
Tax man without lowering standards (by using MS Windows). They might
never have to deal with java files outside of this application.

Thanks,

Drew

How did you change the partition type in the debian installation?

I don't see the option in Parted and fdisk / sfdisk does not support GPT.

  with kind regards,
  Marcel

Select the partition, press return, select `Use as' and there you find
the `Reserved BIOS boot area', just like also RAID and LVM.

With parted I only know this, from the GRUB wiki:
 sudo parted /dev/sda set partition_number bios_grub on

Oh maybe it wasn't clear enough, it has to be outside of the RAID.
Else you don't see that option and it wouldn't work anyway.

Bug#547301: [patch] Bug#547301: problems with https on GNU/kFreeBSD

I think it would be best asking upstream. Do you have a bugzilla account?
It would be easier for you to followup this issue, as you are more prone
to test things ;)

Bug#545674: tomcat6: Crashes when trying to run a web app, including admin

2009-09-24 Thread Ludovic Claude
Hi Jakub,

This was a temporary issue with the way I installed jars both to
/usr/share/java and /usr/share/maven-repo. In an old version of
maven-repo-helper, the script mh_installjar was copying the jars to
/usr/share/maven-repo and a link was created in /usr/share/java. I'm
doing now the opposite, as it respects more the way things were done
before. So this situation is only temporary, if your package is rebuilt
against the latest version of maven-repo-helper, then this problem
should not appear.

Ludovic

Jakub Skoczen a écrit :
 Hi Ludovic,

Enabling all security privileges to /usr/share/maven-repo/ did the
trick. Still, I don't fully understand why this is needed - shouldn't
the maven repository be only used for building stuff (like source
packages)? Why does a running tomcat instance even know about it and
tries to load jar files from there?

No. Check the package relationships with other packages, install the
relevant packages.

No, that's the packager's and apt's job.

Since earlier version worked with my debsums and current does not this is
certainly a regression.

debsums has a --version option so you can use its output and check it in your scripts or devise some
other means.

could you please turn on your brain? the version required is clearly

Thanks. I investigated a bit on asdfasdf. I think the cause of this is
that, if a subprocess dies before man manages to read data from it, then
man immediately discards that file descriptor rather than draining it.
This is a general bug and I don't know why it should be particularly
specific to the FreeBSD kernel; perhaps it just happens to do things in
a different order most of the time. Fixed upstream.

write it is a temporary solution. What is your long term plan? Do you
want to switch from kbd back to console-screen? This would be a bit,
