Bug#348824: ecartis: arbitrary web content security problem
Package: ecartis Version: 1.0.0+cvs.20030911-10 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole Matthias Kilian reported this problem to the ecartis-dev mailing list. It probably affects ecartis in oldstable, stable, testing, and unstable, but only when using the non-default option pantomime-dir. It's a simple conceptional problem with pantomime: when pantomime-dir is set, ecartis strips attachments not only from mails to $list@$hostname, but also, from mails to $list-request@$hostname, and may be from mails to other administrative addresses -- I did only check for [EMAIL PROTECTED] This means that anyone could abuse ecartis lists with pantomime for distributing arbitrary (illegal) content without beeing subscribed to any mailinglist (even if all lists are closed-post) and without the list-owner and anyone else noticing. A solution would be to pantomime *only* on the mailing lists, not on administrative addresses. Upstream is working on a solution. It doesn't affect the current CVS version only because pantomime is completely broken. Workarounds would be to disable pantomime or have it decode files into an inaccesable directory and move only approved files out. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.27-2-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages ecartis depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii logrotate 3.7-5Log rotation utility ii sendmail-bin [mail-transpor 8.13.4-3 powerful, efficient, and scalable -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. From the output it looks like 'host' just does a bind to the interface and lets the kernel select the outgoing address. That's what I see too. Which means that zeroconf has to indicate to the kernel that it is only to be used as a secondary address, or unless specifically required. Yes. As I showed you a few minutes ago, this selection seems to work as expected in at least *some* settings. Note that there probably are no 169.* addresses on this working uni network. Could that be the reason? The 169 address is chosen because there are 169.* peers? Thanks for your feedback so far, they should allow me to fix this problem shortly. That's great! Bug#310495: par: Does not handle UTF-8 multibyte characters properly
Hello, On Wednesday 18 January 2006 13:58, you wrote: I have not been able to find any program that does UTF-8 multibyte character left and right justification for text files. I have not either, sorry. If you can point me to some source where I can find information on how this can be handled then perhaps I can try to figure out a patch to fix this. I'm not a programmer but I guess one just have to understand how UTF-8 encoding works. The old way was to count strings byte by byte but it's not working anymore with UTF-8. Probably manual page UTF-8(7) is a good start and of course there are Unicode Consortium's official definitions: http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode4.0.0/ch03.pdf According to the release notes par is OK with 8-bit characters but not multibyte so this is not a bug in the program vis-a-vis its documentation. Would it be OK with you if this bug was downgraded to wishlist? I don't mind moving it to the wishlist. I don't use par anymore - I can't. But, this is kind of becoming a bug because Linux distributions have moved towards UTF-8 locale and there aren't many languages that can be written with ascii codes 0 - $7f. In Unicode's UTF-8 encoding all the other codes ($80 - $10) need 2 to 4 bytes. So, as par is mainly for reformatting text with human languages, it has become pretty useless nowadays as Unicode and UTF-8 has come. Thanks and regards, Thank you too. A UTF-8 patch would be really nice. - TL pgpB2ov7GLVfU.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#341328: Complement
Hi Matt, I'm the new mantis maintainer and I want to send you clarifications: The config.php file is not in the conffiles because it is entirely generated when you install the package. So it can't be into this file. When you upgrade the package (for the same version) the config.php file is exactly the same as the previous one (except for the time, inode, ...). The only thing I can do is to back up this file before overwriting it, only if you consider it useful. Bug#348831: xserver-xorg: matrox G550 w. 16-bit color now gets lots of painting errors. Mostly white stripes
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 Severity: normal I upgraded from xserver-xorg 6.8.2 in order to test the new release. I have always used 16-bit color on the G550, because 24-bit have all sorts of crashing problems. Now I get all sorts of drawing artifacts. for example, my xterms have a 4-pixel thick white stripe for every fifth character. (Seems to happen at every 32-pixel boundary.) Marking the text and then unmarking fixes this temporarily, but it comes back quickly enough. Changing z-order of windows doesn't necessarily repaint everything either. In an xterm I see that the text is repainted, while regions with out text isn't. Reverting xterm back to testing did not help - doesn't look like a xterm problem. firefox and icewm struggle too, but not as bad as xterm. -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/xfree86/X.roster: xserver-xfree86 xserver-xorg /etc/X11/X target unchanged from checksum in /var/lib/xfree86/X.md5sum. Bug#348833: svn-buildpackage runs debian/rules clean before dpkg-checkbuilddeps
Package: svn-buildpackage Version: 0.6.7 When run without the --svn-dont-clean option, svn-buildpackage runs debian/rules clean without checking whether the build dependencies of the package are satisfied. If they are in fact not satisfied, running debian/rules might fail in strange ways. It would be better to run dpkg-checkbuilddeps first and abort when that fails. On Thursday 19 January 2006 09:53, Jon Kåre Hellan wrote: I'm looking over outstanding reports sent by me and found this one from over a year ago. I would be very surprised if it hasn't been fixed. Can you decide just by looking? SATA support is still under development and there are still issues. However, it is very hard to keep track of individual drivers. I think the general issue is still there in the kernel, but during an installation using the 2.6.15 kernel different initrd generators are used from Sarge and those have better logic for loading ide-generic, so I would guess that with the Etch installer (daily images) you will not see the problem any more. Bug#348837: nvidia-graphics-drivers: Can't have the i386 and amd64 modules sources installed at the same time
Package: nvidia-graphics-drivers Version: 1.0.8178 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hi, when running a 32bit userspace on amd64 it can be quit convenient to have i386 and amd64 modules sources both unpacked under /usr/src/modules (e.g. when you switch between 32bit and 64bit kernels). This patch simply renames the tarballs to nvidia-kernel-$(ARCH)-source.tar.gz and the module source dirs to /usr/src/modules/nvidia-kernel-$(ARCH)/. We're using this to build i386 and amd64 kernels in one run on our build farm. An additional benefit is that's it's quiet obvious from the source dir name if the directory contains the x86_64 precompiled object file or the i386 one. Can this be applied? Bug#345604: ConTeXt documentation in commercial products
retitle 345604 contains non-free documentation thanks Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: please take my apologies for bringing this up, but it seems I need to. According to mreadme.pdf, the documentation is under a different license than the code, with a currently attached to that statement. Unfortunately, the license chosen for the documentation does not allow inclusion in TeXLive (and Debian, hence the other Cc). I have been told privately from a texlive team member that he has already discussed this with ConTeXt upstream, and they are not likely to change it. Therefore we should start creating a tetex-doc-nonfree package. Since we should really check other docs as well, I'm retitling this one, and we'll keep it open until every document has been checked. I also think that while we can start removing ConTeXt documentation from the binary package at once (and ship it in tetex-doc-nonfree), we should not upload a new orig.tar.gz file for every documentation that we remove. As for a practical solution, maybe simply using the GPL for the documentation would maybe already do the trick, since the publisher would have to provide the source code on the same medium, i.e. written. This will probably work, since the source code would also include fonts, cover art, etc. I assume it's even possible to declare that the rights granted by the GPL do not apply to print, or more specifically, to state that the copyright holder grants and restricts the same rights for any digital representation (like a PDF file) that the GPL gives for object code, but not for any printed representation which isn't covered by the GPL, anyway. People on -legal told me this is probably not true; more specifically, the GPL v3 draft specifically states that object code is everything created from the source. Bug#348846: [SPAM(5.4)] RFP: vexim -- vexim is a php interface with mysql backend for managing virtual mail domains and users
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: vexim Version : 2.0.1 Upstream Author : Avleen Vig [EMAIL PROTECTED] * URL : http://www.silverwraith.com/vexim/ * License : special license see LICENSE file Description : vexim is a php interface with mysql backend for managing virtual mail domains and users vexim is a set of php scripts that use a simple mysql/postgresql backend to store and manage virtual mail domains and users with exim4-daemon-heavy. also it includes configuration for spamassassin and clamav, either domain-wide or user-level settings. it works pefectly together with courier software (impa/imap-ssl, pop/pop-ssl, authdaemon), and IlohaMail as webmail interface for the virtual mail users. it depends on any httpd that supports php (php4, php4-mysql, php4-pear at least), mysql or postgresql as backend, exim4-daemon-heavy. it recommends spamassassin and clamav. for virtual mail users access it depends on pop and/or imap daemons that are capable of mysql backend, therefor recommendes courier's imap and pop. my setup on some machines: apache2, php5, mysql5, exim4-daemon-heavy, spamassassin, clamav, courier (pop, imap, pop-ssl, imap-ssl, authdaemon) works out of the box, by creating one systemuser vmail (uig/gid 99) and home directory /var/opt/vmail. in there the virtual domains and users are stored. to get it working a mysql user has to be created (vexim), and the passwort has to be changed: /etc/exim4/exim4.conf, /etc/courier/authmysqlrc and /usr/share/vexim/config/variables.php. the mysql.sql dump file has to be used to create the initial mysql db. as for this reason packaging should be not that problem for any maintainer who has already built a package that uses debconf to interact with the user (during installation for changing the password). vexim's license allows redistribution as long as copyright notice is available as seen in the original license file. also change of content is allowed within that license. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (600, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (400, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#343085: exim4: Exim SMTP_AUTH hangs since today...
* Marc Haber: On my server the entropy ist only 168 could this be the cause of a GNUTLS problem? Yes. exim will wait (and block) until there is enough entropy available to initialize the TLS session. According to my tests, it doesn't. After some discussion with the GNU TLS developers, I think it does the right thing and reads from /dev/urandom only. I fear that we need the output of strace -o /some/file -T -f exim4 -qf -v to debug this further (run this command as root, and try to reproduce the blocking behavior). The resulting file may contain private information such as passwords and email addresses; you might want to send it directly to Marc or me, and not the BTS. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#348860: ITP: knmap -- nmap tabbed graphical interface for KDE
Package: wnpp Owner: Raphaël Pinson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Severity: wishlist * Package name: knmap Version : 2.0 Upstream Author : Kevin Gilbert [EMAIL PROTECTED] * URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/knmap * License : GPL Description : nmap tabbed graphical interface for KDE Knmap is a KDE-based tabbed graphical front end to the nmap Network exploration tool and security scanner. . The main Knmap window takes nmap options and displays the nmap scan output. Multiple nmap scans can be run concurrently in tabs. Knmap uses profiles to store frequently used parameters. . Nmap is a utility for network exploration or security auditing. It supports ping scanning (determine which hosts are up), many port scanning techniques, version detection (determine service protocols and application versions listening behind ports), and TCP/IP fingerprinting (remote host OS or device identification). Nmap also offers flexible target and port specification, decoy/stealth scanning, sunRPC scanning, and more. Most Unix and Windows platforms are supported in both GUI and commandline modes. Several popular handheld devices are also supported, including the Sharp Zaurus and the iPAQ. . Homepage: http://sourceforge.net/projects/knmap
