Bug#390270: amaya: Amaya corrupts files when saving

2006-12-05 Thread Regis Boudin
Hi,

Thanks for the details. I tried it and didn't get the same problem as
you, , but still got some strange things. Attached is the result file
after simply adding a carriage return and a space, which contains some
funny characters, and is definitely a bug.

I also checked with a more recent version and will try with the CVS one,
before forwarding it upstream. (I need to rebuild it all first, however,
so it might take a bit).

to fix the problem or check with upstream ?

That would avoid the need to run dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig (which is
certainly a bad plan). The alternative is to fix font packages to run
fc-cache -f on their target directories.

Perhaps you can hook a fontconfig cache update with defoma?

So far, I've studiously avoided defoma; it's doing weird things with
fonts (symlinks to /var/lib/defoma/fontconfig.d?). I'll take a look at
it and see if that makes any sense.

Bug#401775: netpanzer: please provide debug package

Package: netpanzer
Version: 0.8+svn20060319-2

Please provide a package with debugging symbols. Currently, it's more or
less impossible to even start looking for the places in the code where
errors happen. A debug package would at least make it possible to say
where the game has crashed.

I'm attaching a quick patch to create netpanzer-dbg. Please consider
applying it -- and sorry if I've forgotten something.

Bug#386372: rhythmbox: Update man page

2006-12-05 Thread Sven Arvidsson
In rhythmbox 0.9.5, we moved most of the command line actions to a
separate binary named rhythmbox-client, mostly to make them easier to
 maintain, but also for speed.

What's the best procedure here? Have two separate man pages, or one
symlinked to both binaries?

Dear Yaroslav

Am Fri, Dec 01, 2006 at 04:23:53PM -0500 hat Yaroslav Halchenko getippert:
Was it always like that? I could have tuned cron script to include
graphs, although I can't recall it at the moment... if there is a CVS
or SVN behind may be smth like cvs annotate can give a hint if I am
 right or wrong.

I fixed a bug between 2.99.1.3-1 2.99.1.3-2 which removed the
graphics from the default setup: 316509.

But regardless, I had a configured calamaris setup, I upgraded it
 - it broke. That is already an incompatibility, right? Imagine apache
server, where during upgrade all virtual servers other than default
(which is comes shipped) disappear. Disappear just because
some missing dependency... no note during upgrade, just something
buried in README. I don't think that is the practice anyone would
like ;-) That is why NEWS file is there to announce any possible
   incompatibility issues which might arise.

Agreed. Just a quick check: could you please send me your
/etc/cron.daily/calamaris ?

Bug#401773: netpanzer: client doesn't detect server shutdown, eats 100% cpu

2006-12-05 Thread Fabian Fagerholm
Package: netpanzer
Version: 0.8+svn20060319-2
Severity: normal

While playing a game over the internet, my netpanzer server said:

2006-12-05 22:24:10Detected endless loop. Shutting down.
Closing logfile.
Network send error when sending to client 61: Send error: Couldn't send
all data.
Received signal SIGSEGV(11)
aborting and trying to shutdown.
Segmentation fault

That's probably bad enough on itself, but the client went crazy and ate
100% CPU. strace showed this repeatedly:

time([1165350381]) = 1165350381
time([1165350381]) = 1165350381
write(9, \222\3\n\0\r\0\0\3\16\0\0\3\0\4\0\3\0\0\0\0\0\4\0\3\0\0..., 44) = 44

recv(11, , 4096, 0) = 0
select(9, [8], NULL, NULL, {0, 0}) = 1 (in [8], left {0, 0})

After 10-15 minutes, I got tired of waiting, and clicked a tank and told it
to move to another square. Only then did the client react, by instantly
closing. The strace showed this:

This bug is related to strange implementation of build-in readline function.
This has little something to do with settings of terminal, but IMHO it's the
problem of gnuplot itself.

If you want to use the proper readline function. Recompile gnuplot yourself
with ./configure --with-readline=gnu (you need a libreadline).

Thank you, I will try.
Debian can't do this in its gnuplot package, because there are some licensing
problems.

This works on gentoo

Why you post this bug here?:o)

Because at home, i'm working with gentoo and had no problem with it.At
work, i'm using a debian.
I talked about gentoo, just to say it was not a problem of gnuplot or
konsole themselves, but really a problem of the integration of the one
or the other in Debian.

I will try to recompile gnuplot with the options you gave. Thank you.

Bug#401783: spong: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2006-12-05 Thread Michel Grentzinger
Package: spong
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Hello,

Please find the attached fr.po file, which is an update of the french
translation of the debconf templates. This file has been reviewed by
the contributors of the debian-l10n-french mailing-list.

Could you put this file to the debian/po/ directory of this package,
in remplacement of the old fr.po file ?

Regards,

Bug#359011: xscreensaver support

On Saturday 25 March 2006, you wrote:

Is this an xscreensaver issue/feature? Kanjisaver doesn't have
anything in it that could cause that to happen.

Run xscreensaver with the command line option -no-capture-stderr or
alternatively in $HOME/.xscreensaver make sure the following is set:

captureStderr: False

I believe default is True and that causes all of the error messages
to scroll through kanjisaver.

Perhaps defoma only re-computes the font cache file in

Bug#401784: epiphany-browser: Some characters not displayed correctly

2006-12-05 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 2.14.3-3
Severity: normal

I have noticed for some time that some characters are not shown correctly on
some pages, but they are on most. I have
been trying to find some kind of pattern, but have been unable to do so. The
characters are shown as squares with
numbers in them, as if the character was not represented in any font. That
could have been because of faulty pages, but
Firefox and Mozilla don't seem to have the same problem. Here is the URL to a
page in which all apostrphes are
replaced by squares with the number 0092 in them. Starting with LANG=C epiphany
makes no difference.

Bug#373253: [directfb-dev] Cause of g-i crashing on AMD64 at VT switch found

2006-12-05 Thread Mike Emmel

In general your going to run into problems with other software
packages if something basic
like pthreads cancel is broken. I'd push back on the glibc upstream to
get this to work correctly with a glibc install.

I can make quick hackish workarounds for selected drivers now, but
if adding the library is still possible, I'd do that.

Stated like that I think I prefer my hackish workaround in our build

 Will implement now.

You do still intend to remove the pthread_cancel() calls in the not to
 distant future though?

No, it would have been a patch only for you :)

Bug#351816: qiv: please provide NEWS.Debian file to warn of regression

2006-12-05 Thread Justin B Rye
Package: qiv
Version: 2.0-6
Followup-For: Bug #351816

Yes, this is a bug that needed fixing; but your workaround
introduces a significant regression, so would you mind mentioning
it in a NEWS.Debian file? That way, users with apt-listchanges
installed will get a chance to see a warning on upgrade to the
fixed version. The README.Debian needs updating too.

(I say significant because it breaks the one thing I used qiv for:
on the multi-user machine here, the system.fvwmrc has a wallpaper
function running qiv -ry /usr/local/share/tiles at user login.
Astonishingly, no other utility in Debian, including the WM-specific
ones, shows any sign of being able to do this random-PNG root-tile
trick. Looks like I'll have to resort to a trivial shellscript.)

Bug#400140: neon026 and .la files

2006-12-05 Thread Peter Samuelson

[Joe Orton]
`neon-config --la-file` is part of the defined and documented neon
interface: removing the .la file breaks that interface, and hence
will break applications designed to build against neon.

So, I was the one who requested that the neon26 maintainer remove the
.la file. I'll incorporate Ondrej and Steve's comments by reference
here - suffice it to say Debian has good reasons to want to phase out
.la files entirely, if possible.

As for 'neon-config --la-file', I am curious why it even exists. Is
not 'neon-config --libs' just as effective? If you pass -lneon to
libtool --mode=link, it looks for the .la file anyway and uses it if
found. So even on platforms where the .la file adds real value,
'neon-config --libs' should still work perfectly.

As for Debian, changing 'neon-config --la-file' to be a synonym for
'neon-config --libs' is probably the right thing to do.

Peter

Bug#401790: ITP: hedgewars -- worms like game

2006-12-05 Thread Dmitry E. Oboukhov
Package: hedgewars
Version: 0.8.1-5
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: hedgewars
Version: 0.8.1
Upstream Author: Andrey Korotaev [EMAIL PROTECTED], Igor Ulyanov [EMAIL
PROTECTED]
* URL: http://hedgewars.org/
* License: GPLv2
Description: Worms style game
Each player controls a team of several hedgehogs. During the
course of the game, players take turns with one of their
hedgehogs. They then use whatever tools and weapons are
available to attack and kill the opponents' hedgehogs, thereby
winning the game. Hedgehogs may move around the terrain in a
variety of ways, normally by walking and jumping but also by
using particular tools such as the Rope or Parachute, to
move to otherwise inaccessible areas. Each turn is time-limited
to ensure that players do not hold up the game with excessive
 thinking or moving.
 .
A large variety of tools and weapons are available for players
during the game: Grenade, Cluster Bomb, Bazooka, UFO, Shotgun,
Desert Eagle, Fire Punch, Baseball Bat, Dynamite, Mine, Rope,
Pneumatic pick, Parachute. Most weapons, when used, cause
explosions that deform the terrain, removing circular chunks.
The landscape is an island floating on a body of water, or a
restricted cave with water at the bottom. A hedgehog dies when
it enters the water (either by falling off the island, or
through a hole in the bottom of it), it is thrown off either
side of the arena or when its health is reduced, typically from
contact with explosions, to zero (the damage dealt to the
attacked hedgehog or hedgehogs after a player's or CPU turn is
shown only when all movement on the battlefield has ceased).

however, I now get a colored border around my Mutt window, changing

Should I reopen this bug or file a new one?

Bug#401760: readline function problems

2006-12-05 Thread Chali Ahmul M.P.U
Because at home, i'm working with gentoo and had no problem with it.
Can you please find out if that version is compiled with --with-readline=gnu,
please? I tested this on colleague's gentoo a couple of weeks ago and I had
same problems as on debian. I would be very happy if it isn't, but I doubt.

Bug#376679: bacula: Upgrade to 1.38.11 broke autochanger config.

2006-12-05 Thread Kern Sibbald
I've taken another look at this bug report, and am convinced that my comment
of 9 Oct remains valid. The user did not upgrade his Storage daemon
configuration to include the new Autochanger resource, and thus Bacula fails
to function correctly.

I recommend that this bug be closed and marked as not a bug or user
configuration error.

Bug#390270: amaya: Amaya corrupts files when saving

2006-12-05 Thread Regis Boudin
Ok,

After a bit of time to build the CVS version, I tried the same thing,
and the problem didn't appear.

Since I don't know which patch could have fixed the problem, I can't
backport it and I don't have time to search for it at the moment.

I will instead finnish my work on patches which I am completely redoing,
and make a new upstream version available.

Thanks again for the report and the help.

Bug#401792: emacs21: indent-region buglet

2006-12-05 Thread Ian Zimmerman
Package: emacs21
Version: 21.4a+1-1
Severity: minor

The doc string for c-indent-region says:

Indent every line whose first char is between START and END inclusive.

This was obviously copied from the docstring for lisp-indent-region,
which really does behave this way.  But c-indent-region doesn't;
it indents the first line even if the region starts on a later
column (not the first).

Not a big deal, but it makes the documentation wrong and potentially
it prevents the writing of a script that would work in every major
mode using just the indent-region interface.

Bug#358664: Reopen Bug#358664

On 05 Dec 2006 22:41:25 +0200, Jari Aalto [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

thanks

Quoting previous mail:

This bugreport is closed upstream

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1460937group_id=6488atid=106488
as stated before in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=358664
you can disable the splashscreen with:
Konfigurator - Startup - unchecking the splash screen.

Let me recap:

- Krusader is standalone program than can be used without KDE
- In this case no KDE is installed.
- Starting the program in PII/500 standard Debian installation,
  Laptop with IDE/4500rpm

= The system is completely unusable with the splash screen being
displayed while the program is startin for *several* *several*
minutes. It occupies fair amount of pixels in standard 1024x768 laptop
display

This is clearly a serious usability problem. I do not see reason why
user is forced to to look at a marketing slogan fo such a long period
of time:

Krusader, simple, easy, powerful

This really should be fixed by not showing any splash screen unless
user requests such marketing slogans.

Repoening - and do now tag with wontfix just to hide this problem.

If KDE people are unresponsive, then Debian amaintainer should write
local patch to remove the intrusive screen.

Jari

Hi Jari,

- I can't reproduce this bug.
- I have never heard some else who can give confirmation about this bug.
- The splashscreen should not take longer than 5 to 10 seconds on a
slow computer.
- Maybe a KDE component is missing on your system that is needed to
let work the splashscreen properly, but don't ask me which one (i'm
not a developer, sorry).
- Krusader is not developed by KDE people, we work independent from
the KDE project but we are using the KDE framework and share code with
KDE.
- How more KDE tools are installed on your computer how better
Krusader will work.

kind regards,

Frank Schoolmeesters

characters are shown as squares with
numbers in them, as if the character was not represented in any font. That
could have been because of faulty pages, but
Firefox and Mozilla don't seem to have the same problem. Here is the URL to a

replaced by squares with the number 0092 in them. Starting with LANG=C

Bug#401784: epiphany-browser: Some characters not displayed correctly

2006-12-05 Thread Sven Arvidsson
Hi,

This is bug #368779, for libxul0d, not really the fault of epiphany.

Basically, those sites you describe declare themselves as being encoded
in iso-8859-x, when they really are windows-125x.

Firefox/Iceweasel and most other browser have simply given up on such sites and
simply treats iso-8859-x as windows-125x, but the libxul0d maintainer refuses
to do so.

Maybe when iceweasel starts using libxul and most users will see this
the situation can be improved...

last week or so, but didn't file a bug report because I've not come
yet with a complete solution. Below my current analysis anyway, if

I'm not sure I understand what you are describing, please

Please see http://bugs.debian.org/401153 for the original bug
report. Basically, iasl successfully compiles the atteched dsl
file on a regular i386 pc, but when running the same program on
PowerPC (Debian GNU/Linux) then you get a segmentation fault.
There
is probably a bug in the program somewhere which seems to only
trigger on powerpc at the moment.

It has been tracked down to being related to Asl.Value.String
being
NULL. This state seems invalid and makes the program crash. Do you
have any idea what might have failed and how this variable could
be
uninitialized? It would be really appreciated if you have any
hints
about possible failures that we can investigate...

This is a problem of endinaness. iasl does not work on big-endian
boxes. The main issue is that the bison parser is using Value.Integer
(which is an ACPI_INTEGER and in 32 bit arches it's a 64 bit type) to
assign the values to the union ACPI_PARSE_VALUE. And then when
accessing
the pointers or the 'Size' variable it gets only the MSW, which is 0,
so my workaround has been to define that we cannot use a 64 bit type
for ACPI_INTEGER on 32 bit arches. Ideally the union should be filled
using the proper member. This fixes the segfault.

There's mentions in the changes.txt from 2003 of added support for
big-endian systems, which was the first thing I tried, to enable the
ACPI_BIG_ENDIAN macro for those arches (that's included in the patch
anyway), but this didn't help. I suppose the code has evolved since
then and that support has been lost because no one run it on such
 arches.

Then the next problem is that iasl generates output, but that output
is wrong. The output needs to be swapped to make it little-endian.
AFAIS the problem is located in compiler/aslcodegen.c in most of the
functions that are using CgLocalWriteAmlData, as they should be
converting those values to little-endian when writting. But it didn't
feel right to keep the TableHeader stored as little-endian in memory,
as some other parts of the code use and reference it. So problably
this needs to be swapped when dumping to the disk.

Just as a side note, I tried compiling the mentioned DSDT on an ARM
platform and I get a different error:

I was trying it on arm little endian and it worked, the same for
 mipsel.

The attached patch fixes the segfault, and corrects the CFLAGS
handling for upstream and Debian, it also adds alpha to the list of
64 bit arches. The fix for compiler/aslopcodes.c is needed because
the macros ACPI_UINT32_MAX: and ACPI_INTEGER_MAX are the same if
ACPI_INTEGER is defined to be 32 bits.

 guillem

Bug#401645: wpasupplicant is stopped too early at reboot/shutdown

2006-12-05 Thread Przemyslaw Bruski

Hi Kel,

Of course you are right. However, sendsigs is run at sequence number 20, and
it kills the wpa_supplicant process.

Not anymore - http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=367944.
The maintainers have moved it to sequence number 37. Now umountnfs.sh
kills the processes that have to be killed in order to unmount the
filesystems. The new order is:

15 wpasupplicant
31 umountnfs.sh
37 sendsigs

And it should be:

31 umountnfs.sh
xx wpasupplicant
37 sendsigs

bye,

Przemek

Yuck!

Is Ingres an SQL database or something other? What SQL dialect does it

(In particular, it should not be defined as NATIVE). If BTYPESWAPPED is

Currently, on arm, these definitions are used:

However, having MACHINE undefined for arm breaks the compilation of

To what should I set MACHINE

This should work:

#define MACHINE  OTHERTYPE

At least in the package I use (version 2.510), this doesn't work. In the
version 3-package, the fix already worked.

OK, I forgot that 'OTHERTYPE' was not defined in v2.5x. So, instead,
define MACHINE to be any integer greater than 7:

#define MACHINE 10

However, I don't see much point in continuing to support v2.510. It is
now more than 2 years old, and the changes.txt file lists more than 80
significant enhancements and bug fixes that have been made to CFITSIO

Bug#401388: neon26: please put two alternative packages in the shlibs files

2006-12-05 Thread Peter Samuelson

[Laszlo Boszormenyi]
Also it would fetch more dependencies (GnuTLS related just for neon)
and I don't know if Subversion serving over https would interfere
with Apache2 or not. Reason: Apache2 is linked with OpenSSL,
Subversion and neon will be linked with GnuTLS.

Don't worry about that: the subversion apache modules do not link to
neon directly or indirectly.

As for libsvn_ra_dav (the client library that uses neon), I've tested
it lightly against a https repository using libneon26-gnutls, and it
works fine. I'll try to do some more testing this afternoon.

For now, I will ask what upstream says about this. Please decide if I
should switch to GnuTLS support only; but then please schedule
binNMUs for Subversion and OpenOffice.org .

If you decide to support gnutls only, that would be 'libneon26', right?
So no binNMU needed, but a source upload would be needed for bazaar.

Let's assume netinst.

Since the installer uses the 2.6.18 kernel Debian usually installs
smoothly on my system, but the installations won't boot. I have
installed every 'daily built image' since last Tuesday (when the new
kernel was added) and none of the successful installations would get
past the point where the boot messages read Begin: Waiting for root

With the installed kernel (2.6.17) my CD drives and network card will

If really netinst is used, then seems like the install kernel
is still 2.6.17.

Strangely, the graphycal installer is not graphical anymore since the
new kernel was introduced. After 'installgui' I get text based dialogs:
much like the old installer, but fringed by weird ascii.

I think that is #401603

Perhaps defoma only re-computes the font cache file in
 the /var/lib/defoma/fontconfig.d directory instead
of /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu. That would cause the same
 problem.

Yes, defoma only runs fc-cache in the defoma directory. It won't do
anything more to system directories than building symbolic links to
them.

I fully agree with you. However, currently more than 10 packages depend

Bug#401796: CVE-2006-4249: Plone vulnerability

2006-12-05 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Package: zope-cmfplone
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

I don't know very much about Plone and I didn't investigate too deeply
as Sarge is not affected, but I suppose this needs to be fixed for Etch:

| PlonePAS-using Plone releases (Plone 2.5 and Plone 2.5.1)

Applying the hotfix is probably preferable to upgrading to 2.5.2.

Actually, kwin does not provide a menu entry, and I would suggest

I agree that window managers that are unable to start applications by

So I suggest to reassign this bug to metacity requesting the file

Accordingly I am reassigning this bug.

The comments by TimMann about his patch looked very plausible and I
wonder if there are not several race conditions lurking in the alsa

For the moment, at least. I am out of ideas of what more I can do to

I was loading this URL:

when the browser crashed. Upon restart it asked me if I wanted to
restore the windows I had. I clicked yes, and one tab it showed me
this:

What I expected to happen was that the window told me the message it was
saying it couldn't parse ;-) I assume the problem is failure to
properly escape the URL.

Note: the message in spanish means The page URL on this tab was not
fully loaded yet when the browser crashed, which means it could have
caused the crash, or something similar.

Thanks.

So maybe mutt changes the background color, and then xterm uses that to

That sounds consistent. Before #223, the border simply wasn't repainted.
Now it's repainted, and we don't like the color scheme.

The test-case that I was investigating showed that - but I didn't happen
to use a background other than black or white.

I guess this means that it's a pam library segv and not a cron bug?

But now, I have no idea if the bug is in pam, or pam_mount...

I would say that the error is in pam_mount. I'm not sure if cron's segfault
is due to the fact that pam crashes behind him or he does not handle properly
 PAM's error.

Can you please explain what kind of cron tasks are you using and what do you
use pam_mount for? Do you auto-mount home directories and use per-user
 crontabs?

for cron, anything will crash it.
Right now, I just have
* * * * *   root date  /tmp/date
in /etc/crontab

pam_mount, I use to decrypt and mount a directory when users log in.
Initially, the install docs I saw recommended putting the pam_mount config
like so:

/etc/pam.d/common-auth:
authsufficient pam_unix.so
authoptionalpam_mount.so use_first_pass
authsufficient pam_krb5.so retain_after_close forwardable
refresh_creds use_first_pass
authrequiredpam_deny.so

/etc/pam.d/common-session:
#
# This file is included from other service-specific PAM config files,
# and should contain a list of modules that define tasks to be performed
# at the start and end of sessions of *any* kind (both interactive and
# non-interactive). The default is pam_unix.
#
session requiredpam_unix.so
session requiredpam_limits.so
session optionalpam_mount.so

Turns out I only really need to include this in
/etc/pam.d/kdm|gdm|login|ssh|xscreensaver
but indeed, sourcing it in other places shouldn't still shouldn't cause
cron/pam to
segv
