Bug#406378: gnucash: GnuCash crashes when I open an account register

2007-01-10 Thread Jim Woodruff
Package: gnucash
Version: 2.0.2-2.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Everytime I try to open an account register, GnuCash crashes with the dialog box
GnuCash Unexpectedly Quit. This makes the Application unusable.

Note: I reported this same trouble on versions 1.9.x and 2.0.x (bug #378346)
which
 should be reopened.
Sorry it took so long to respond but I haven't had x-window capability
until
 the latest version of xserver-xorg-core.

Thanks for the bug report. According to the ftp-masters, this package
should be removed automatically once it is noticed that there is no
longer a source package that generates it and it has been removed from
testing. Both conditions are now true, hence the package should go
away automatically.

unfortunatly, the debian archive considers different:
 libpfm3 |libpfm3 | 3.2.060926-1 | unstable | ia64
 libpfm3 |libpfm3 | 3.2.060926-2 | unstable | source, i386

Bug#405555: libruby1.8 should replaces/provides/conflicts with libdevel-logger-ruby1.8

Package: libruby1.8
Version: 1.8.5-4
Severity: critical

When upgrading from sarge to etch, the package libdevel-logger-ruby1.8
isn't removed.

The functionality of this package was bundled in libruby1.8 as
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/logger.rb. So, libruby1.8 should
replace/provide/conflict it, as it does with others packages that were
bundled in libruby1.8.

/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/logger.rb was already provided by libruby1.8 in sarge.
Why does the libruby1.8 in etch handle /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/devel/logger.rb
any
differently than libruby1.8 in sarge did?

Yes, but the functionality provided by libdevel-logger-ruby is the same
that libruby1.8 provides.

That's fine, but doesn't explain why a conflict is needed. *libruby1.8*
seems to coexist with libdevel-logger-ruby1.8 without any problems at all;
there are no conflicting file paths, and no problems I can see that result
from having two logger.rb files in the ruby include path, given that they
should be functionally equivalent.

Well, okay. But this package isn't in etch, so if there is a bug in it,
it cannot be solved.

And libruby1.8 replaces/provides/conflicts with all small libraries that
were part of it when it was split in ruby 1.6. So, I thought it was the
right place to add one more conflict, to keep the pattern and not to
spread it throught other packages.

If libruby1.8 already provides this functionality, then it should
remove the old (and wrong) one.

Should doesn't really explain why you marked this bug as critical. I'm
trying to understand what's actually broken here.

Maybe was a misunderstanding of mine about what critical is, but I
understood that it makes unrelated software on the system break, (rails).
But now that you reasign it to rails, thats ok to be serious :D

Also, if this packages remains in upgrades to etch, some rails
applications
do not work.

Why?

Because it has an file called application.rb, that gets in the way of
rails application.rb. Stupid classload issues.

Ok, but *that* is an incompatibility between rails and
libdevel-logger-ruby1.8, it has nothing to do with libruby1.8 itself. Since
this is the only real problem I see, I'm reassigning this bug report to
rails; if you can explain how the lack of a conflict breaks ruby as a whole,
we can clone this bug back to ruby1.8 as well.

AFAIK, it breaks only rails. But it is a trash that will be left behind when
people upgrade from sarge to debian - and for me, this is a bug. I don't
want a package from sarge that provides the same functionality
libruby1.8 provides in my etch machine.

RAILS people, about this bug report:

If I run my application with ./script/server, without
libdevel-logger-ruby1.8 installed, I got this on my log/development.log file:

Bug#346040: backupninja: [PATCH] duplicity local backup support

2007-01-10 Thread The Anarcat
Package: backupninja
Followup-For: Bug #346040

Hi.

I did some work to get there. I have attached a patch that adds a
protocol option, that, if unset defaults to scp.

It's not quite clean yet, because it lacks documentation and it's
really just a flag right now. Not sure what would happen if you'd
enter, say, ssh or (!) ftp as a protocol. :) Maybe backupninja
should check for this...

I also haven't tested what happens if you *don't* enter a protocol (or
put scp). I guess it will behave fine, but I don't have a remote
setup to do formal testing.

I installed the package maintainer´s version of /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and
tried again to set my printer up and to print a test page, but much like
before the printer does not react at all, and there are blank pages
produced when trying to print a test page with foomatic-gui.
In gnome-cups-manager I selected: Manufacturer: HP, Model: Laserjet 5 -
CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0, Driver: Standard (Suggested)[there are no other
drivers available to select]
The attached file shows a reboot an an attempted print out of a test
page with gnome-cups-manager and then the same with foomatic-gui.

I have an ´HP LaserJet 5´ connected to the parallel port which works
fine with ubuntu 6.10.

Bug#406139: Similar problem with seahorse.

2007-01-10 Thread Andreas Henriksson
I have a similar problem with seahorse...

If I open up the properties for my key I get the following two warnings:

(seahorse:22780): Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading icon: Failed to open
file '/usr/share/pixmaps/seahorse//22x22/seahorse-person.png': No such
file or directory

(seahorse:22780): Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading icon: Failed to open
file '/usr/share/pixmaps/seahorse//22x22/seahorse-sign.png': No such
file or directory

I don't get any lockup though. Close that dialog works fine.

But when I then close seahorse, there is an endless loop of messages
like this and I have to kill it:

(seahorse:22780): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_model_sort_real_unref_node:
assertion `elt-ref_count 0' failed

If I don't open up the properties dialog for the key in seahorse this
problem does not occur.

(Maybe this is a completely separate problem, but since both our
problems involved the properties dialog for keys I'll hold on opening a
separate bug until this can be confirmed.)

Bug#406379: cups-pdf: Installation require non-obvious behaviour on part of user.

2007-01-10 Thread Simon Waters
Package: cups-pdf
Version: 2.4.2-1
Severity: wishlist

After installing this package, when setting up a printer in CUPS, the user
must know that that file;

/usr/share/ppd/cups-pdf/PostscriptColor.ppd

Is the correct (or at least sensible default) to use in the CUPS (or GNOME)
user interface as a driver.

The README.Debian even complains about people getting this wrong, without
telling them what the correct thing to do is.

Presumably there may also be an issue with CUPS not accepting this information,
as a hint to the user interface.

But can we at least add this to README.Debian, and preferably hide such details
from the end user entirely.

I've 15 years Unix admin background, so the hint in the README.Debian
was sufficient, but the average end user told they need a specific PPD
file is not going to know where it might be, or how to get it, even
though it is included with this package. Okay the average end user
probably won't read the README.Debian file.

Bug#406377: ITP: revoco -- control Logitech's MX-Revolution mouse

Package: wnpp
Owner: Evgeni Golov
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: recovo
 Version : 0.3
 Upstream Author : Edgar Toernig
* URL or Web page : http://www.missingreality.com/revoco/
* License : none / public domain
 Description : control Logitech's MX-Revolution mouse

A small tool for Linux to control the wheel behaviour of
Logitech's MX-Revolution mouse. It lets you switch between
free-spin, click-to-click, manual, and auto mode. For manual
mode you can specify any button to be used for mode switching
and for auto mode you can specify a speed at which free-spin
mode is entered.

About the licence (quote of what I've written in d/copyright):
In revoco.c the author claims, his bonobo has written the code,
so no copyright is aviable.

In a private mail about the licence he replied:
Mit Lizenzen hat mein Affe nix am Hut. Wenn du fuer
Debian irgendeine Lizenz eintragen willst, waere
Public Domain der passende Begriff.

For the non-german readers:
My bonobo does not know anything about liences. If you want to
enter something for Debian, public domain would be the best.

I hope this is okay for Debian, tell me if not.
First packages can be seen under [1].

Bug#406381: backupninja: remove useless usage of su

2007-01-10 Thread The Anarcat
Package: backupninja
Version: 0.9.3-5
Severity: important

Hi,

I have had recurring problems deploying backupninja in vservers. Not
using the vservers = foo approach, mind you, but directly installing
backupninja in the vserver and configuring it.

An example is the duplicity handler. It calls duplicity using this
fragment:

output=`nice -n $nicelevel \
 su -c \
duplicity $execstr --exclude '**' / $execstr_serverpart
21`

In other words:

nice su -c ls

This doesn't work on a vserver, even though su works:

:~# nice su -c ls
su: Permission denied
:~# su -c ls
:~#

That is because the vserver isn't a realtime vserver (it can't raise
its processes priorities). An strace shows the problem fairly clearly:

...
setpriority(PRIO_PROCESS, 0, 0) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
getpid()= 11777
rt_sigaction(SIGPIPE, {0x2aaaf6e824f0, [], 0x400}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0
sendto(3, 83Jan 10 18:14:02 su[11777]: p..., 67, 0, NULL, 0) = 67
rt_sigaction(SIGPIPE, {SIG_DFL}, NULL, 8) = 0
write(2, su: Permission denied\n, 22su: Permission denied
...

I really wonder why this `su -c' call is there, because it doesn't
serve any purpose in my eyes.

I would advocate removing all such calls. I had to do it here to make
it work. Here's my current patch on dup:

Under testing, the only menu items are xterm, new desktop and exit.

Hello Toney,

In order to get a menu in Etch I have to install admin/menu package and
run update-menus.

You have to install the menu package, but you do not need to run
update-menus unless you have a ~/.wmx directory. This will be performed
automatically.

flwm is a wonderful package, and it is doing it a disservice to not
configure it properly on install. New users may just look at the paltry
menu, say this sucks, and uninstall flwm.

As far as I know, flwm behave the same way in that regard in Sarge and
Etch: the menu is only available if the menu package is installed. This
behaviour is consistent with the other window managers in Debian.
So if you experienced a different behaviour, I would really appreciate more
data.

Thanks in your interest in FLWM and Debian menu!

Bug#405579: PowerPC, prep-flavor: manual partitioning error

2007-01-10 Thread Ulrich Teichert
Hi,

just a quick update:

OK. I've checked with someone who knows C better than I and just uploaded
a new version. I made the same change in another function too, though
there it only affected an error message.

The new version may be included in CD images built tonight, but you may
have to allow a bit more time.

I've downloaded the 20070109-2 build, and I think the sid_d-i one, but:

mosna:/cdrom# find . -iname '*prep*'
./pool/main/l/linux-2.6/linux-image-2.6.18-3-prep_2.6.18-7_powerpc.deb
./pool/main/l/linux-latest-2.6/linux-image-2.6-prep_2.6.18+5_powerpc.deb
./pool/main/p/partman-prep
./pool/main/p/partman-prep/partman-prep_9_powerpc.udeb
./pool/main/p/prep-installer
./pool/main/p/prep-installer/prep-installer_0.4_powerpc.udeb

There might be the chance that I stumbled into the wrong directory *again*,
so I'll dowload the 20070109-3 build to verify. This will take another 6-8
hours, though...

Uli

Bug#406380: External RSS application not launching

2007-01-10 Thread Yesod

Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.1+dfsg-1

It seems Iceweasel is not launching external applications for RSS
subscription. Whatever application I'm trying it is not exec()ed.

I tried custom scripts (to see what was happening) and graphic
application accepting any kind of argument (like xterm). None of them is
launched by Iceweasel.

I tried an strace -p my-pid -f -o /dev/stdout | fgrep my-application
hoping to see an exec() or at least a stat() on the chosen application
but there is no output.

I tried an ltrace :
ltrace -o /dev/stdout -p 3526 -f | fgrep xterm
3526 strcmp(/usr/bin/xterm, /usr/bin/xterm) = 0
3526 strlen(xterm) = 5

3526 strlen(xterm) = 5
3526 strlen(xterm) = 5
3526 strlen(xterm) = 5

2007-01-10 Thread Roman Bertle
Package: spca5xx-modules-2.6-amd64
Severity: normal

Hello,

my webcam does not work with this driver:
# v4l-info
open /dev/video0: No space left on device
# demesg
/home/bastian/debian/tmp/linus/linux-modules-extra-2.6-2.6.18/debian/build/build_amd64_none_amd64_spca5xx/drivers/usb/spca5xx.c:
[spca5xx_open:2437] DEALLOC error on init_Isoc

I found information in forums that this problem occurs if the usb-bus is
shared with other usb-devices due to bandwidth
(http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=247646), but the errors remains
if i shuffel around the usb-ports i use, and my brand new system should not
have bandwidth issues.

Finally I installed the (source only) package gspca instead of
spca5xx-modules-2.6-amd64, it works now.

Best regards,

Roman

What does having a 1024x768 virtual desktop at 800x600 vesa do ?

X11/vesa fails to work if I add Virtual 1024 768 at the correct
location. It begins to startup, switches the mode and leaves with a
broken screen/console, that only goes away after a (blind) reboot.

Bug#321102: user

2007-01-10 Thread C Sights
After reading the way to reproduce this bug as outlined in

From: Bastian Venthur
Subject: a way to reproduce KMail/DIMAP data loss
Date: Wed, 10 Jan 2007 13:41:17 +0100
...
A suggested fix would be to prompt the user Changes were made to the
disconnected IMAP cache. Commit changes to IMAP server? - Yes No when
exiting KMail. Maybe also have an explanation of the consequences. If No
is clicked just exit. If Yes is clicked show a bar indicating progress of
updating the IMAP server.
The purpose of No is for those situations when the person is not
connected
to the network and updating the server is not an option. (It would be nice
if possible connection to the server is checked automatically.)
The purpose of Yes is to explicitly commit changes made in case the
user
forgets about them. (I often check my mail CTRL-L one more time before
exiting to synchronize the cache and the server.)

An analogy to what Bastian described would be if floppy disk drives had
no
light on them: Everyone knows don't eject the floppy until the light goes
off. If you do then the files might not be updated correctly. What KMail
needs is something similar to the light on the floppy disk.

Thanks !

Bug#406139: This patch fixes my seahorse problems.

2007-01-10 Thread Andreas Henriksson
The attached patch is extracted from the upstream changes between 0.9.8
and 0.9.9 and fixes my problem in seahorse where it enters an endless
loop on quit if I've opened up the key properties dialog while running
seahorse.

Sam: can you please try this one and check if it fixes your problem as
well? Can you test the upstream 0.9.9 and see if that fixes your
problem?
(0.9.10 seems to need a newer GTK+ version then Debian has for it's
GtkStatusIcon changes)

Jose: Judging from the upstream changlogs for the newer versions there
seems to be many important fixes applied since 0.9.7. You might want to
go through them all and see if anything else should be applied before
Etch is released. (Btw, Why was the development branch put into Etch?)

Bug#406387: error: database connection failed after installation

2007-01-10 Thread Juan Carlos Amengual Argudo
Package: moodle
Version: 1.6.3-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Whenever I tried to access http://localhost/moodle/admin/ I get same
error over and over:

Error: Database connection failed.

It is possible that the database is overloaded or otherwise not
running properly.

The site administrator should also check that the database details
have been correctly specified in config.php

;-¿? I don't know what to do. I have purged and reinstalled several
times postgress and moodle. I have googled till I'm really tired. In
fact, I have checked every little thing I have found in Google
regarding this problem. And, of course, I have followed line by line
/usr/share/doc/moodle/README.Debian.

Executing from console: createdb -O moodle -e -U moodle prueba

I get:

Contraseña:
CREATE DATABASE prueba OWNER moodle;
createdb: falló la creación de la base de datos:
ERROR: se ha denegado el permiso a crear la base de datos

Why? User moodle exists, see it:

$ createuser -A -d -P -e -U postgres moodle
Ingrese la contraseña para el nuevo usuario:
Ingrésela nuevamente:
Contraseña:
CREATE USER moodle PASSWORD 'x' CREATEDB NOCREATEUSER;
createuser: falló la creación del nuevo usuario:
ERROR: ya existe el usuario moodle

So? The installation scrips has created a user moodle that has not
been granted privileges for creating databases? Is it possible?

Moreover:

$ createdb -O moodle -e -U postgres moodle
Contraseña:
CREATE DATABASE moodle OWNER moodle;
createdb: falló la creación de la base de datos:
ERROR: la base de datos moodle ya existe

So? Why moodle doesn't work if database moodle exists?

Thanks a lot. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated.

Bug#396226: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#396226: samba Messes up file permissions

2007-01-10 Thread Christian Perrier
My tests show that this problem has occured with excel 2003, and word
2003, but not with just a text file and using notepad.

It might be related to https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1094.
I'm unclear from that bug report if the solution was found, or not.

Could you please get a level 10 log around the moment where
the file permissions are messed up (ie when the file is written)?

Bug#406386: recursive size when selecting directories

Package: mc
Version: 1:4.6.1-6

Tags: upstream

if selecting files with 'insert', mc displays the total size of the
selected files at the bottom. it would rock if it could do that for
directories as well, summing the size recursively, if it's enabled
to do so.

Bug#401010: Hang when trying to read mail in evolution

2007-01-10 Thread Øystein Gisnås

Thanks for the quick answer!

It surprises me a bit that you see the problem even when not
previewing it. The stacktrace clearly shows that it's currently
rendering the HTML (in GtkHTML).

Does it happen when you press that particular email? If so, is it
possible for you to send that email to me?

Does it crash (SEGFAULT) when the problem occurs, or does it hang
(100% CPU usage)?

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2006-October/msg00130.html
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34 and
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356913 have info about the
open files problem. They say it's fixed in 2.9.1. I looked at it, and
to be able to backport it, I need to contact the developers directly -
it's a quite complex patch.

2007-01-10 Thread Piotr Engelking

Package: fetchmail

/etc/init.d/fetchmail creates the idfile, with comment create $UIDL if it

Bug#406390: libhal-storage calls dbus_connection_close() instead of dbus_connection_unref()

2007-01-10 Thread Stefan Witzel

process 7305: applications must not close shared connections - see

Mounting manually works fine, so I supposed it to be a nautilus bug,
though I'm not sure it is. By the way: the folder (? nor a file)
/dev/sdf1 effectively doesn't exist (I guess you understand the messages
folder /dev/sdf1 doesn't exist and couldn't execute pmount). The
device he should try to mount is /dev/sde1.

I agree here, a simple failback to force-reload would be a simple

and report them back to the server and possibly attempt reconfigure later.

Should we change the default to force-reload for debinit? it can be
overridden by using the reload attribute for services. If force-reload
is mandatory, then we should probably use it. Thoughts?

We have an analogous issue with fedora, except force-reload -
condrestart, so I was thinking about changing it chkconfig to use
condrestart...

Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.1+dfsg-1

It seems Iceweasel is not launching external applications for RSS

I tried custom scripts (to see what was happening) and graphic
application accepting any kind of argument (like xterm). None of them is
launched by Iceweasel.

I tried an strace -p my-pid -f -o /dev/stdout | fgrep my-application
hoping to see an exec() or at least a stat() on the chosen application
but there is no output.

I'm running on testing + iceweasel from unstable, ix86.

I'm attempting to get accelerated OpenGL working on my R300-based FireGL
X1 card that's in my HP zx2000 workstation (ia64). As I understand it,
the radeon driver in Debian unstable has beta OpenGL support for
R300-based cards, but I'm unable to get it working. The key failure
appears to be around this point in Xorg.0.log:

(WW) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP not available
(EE) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP failed to initialize. Disabling the DRI.

I have both agpgart and radeon kernel modules loaded, so I'm unsure of
why AGP isn't available.

You probably also need an AGP driver. From what I see in the kernel
source, the possible ones on ia64 are hp-agp (HP ZX1 chipset AGP
support), i460-agp (Intel 460GX chipset support) and sgi-agp (SGI TIO
chipset AGP support). Do you have any of them in lsmod? If not, try to
modprobe all of them and restart X.

If it doesn't work, send us dmesg after modprobe all these drivers, and
also the complete output of lspci -n.

Bug#406393: rc script: avoiding use of Sed

2007-01-10 Thread Ivan Baldo
Package: sysv-rc
Version: 2.86.ds1-36
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

One can detect the priority level of an init script with:
 level=${s#/etc/rc$runlevel.d/S}
 level=${level%%[a-z]*}

That should be faster than using sed because sed is an external program and a
complex one by the way.
I wasn't able to measure any speedup, maybe because the time is dominated by
other things but maybe it helps on slow processors or lower memory systems.
This works with Bash and Dash, tested it on both and I maked sure that the new
way is identical to the old one in behaviour.
I guess its too late for Etch but anyway...
Thank you.

P.s.: I see that initscripts are incorporating special comments to declare
dependencies, is there any aproximative timeline as to when that information
will start to be used and will be required by all initscripts?

Bug#406392: RFP: Cellophane -- A native KDE windeco that loads user SVG data for frame and button rendering.

2007-01-10 Thread #B^]
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Package name: Cellophane
Version : 1.41
Upstream Author : Rick Paquette
URL : http://www.digilanti.org/werks/cellophane/
License : GPL
Programming Lang: C++
Description : A thin layer of Plastik to keep KDE fresh.

Loads a frame svg file and a button svg file, just the background. The button
symbol svg files are expected to be in the same path as the buttonTile. If no
symbol files are found it will render Plastik symbols (with shadows).

If both frame and buttonTile pass the QImage::allGray() test then Cellophane
1.41 will blend the A/I frame pixmaps with A/I frame colors and A/I
buttonTile with A/I Title Button colors from your desktop color settings.

The default behavior is to tint Inactive with inactiveFrame color and use svg
file colors for Active. So if you want the desktop colors to affect the frame
and button colors use 'pure' grays in both the frame.svg and the
buttonTile.svg.

If you don't want this then bump R or G or B in any color by one up or down in
the frame.svg or the buttonTile.svg. Both button and frame must be pure
gray to enable use of the desktop colors.

AquaMarine, DarkLayer, NoIco and Saphire svg themes are available
http://www.digilanti.org/werks/cellophane/CELLOPHANE.tar.bz2
Default themes included in src tarball default and chrome.

the attached patch makes the aacurses driver use black on black + bold

also reports that this attribute is supported, while rendering it the
same way as normal color. With this patch, all (3) levels of brightness
can be successfully utilized on the console :)

This does not seem to work very well. I've attached a screenshot of two
aafire's, the top is running with the patch, and the bottom without.

Of course, my xterm is configured to display bold text in green, which
doesn't help matters, but I'm more concerned about the lack of any
fading at all with your patch.

Bug#406395: hylafax-server: bin/faxrcvd, bin/notify won't be able to send email

2007-01-10 Thread Paolo
Package: hylafax-server
Version: 2:4.3.1-6
Severity: important

hi,

unless I've screwed things up, I've checked Woody, Sarge, Etch for
possibility for uucp.uucp to call sendmail -f - ie setting return-path:
and it results it can't - ie uucp isn't in 'trusted' group. At least, with
masqmail I'm using.

Now, problem is that both notify and faxrcvd scripts as shipped - both
upstream and in .deb - call

 2$ERRORSTO | $SENDMAIL -f$FROMADDR -oi $mailaddr

which, according to above, won't work. Indeed, I put a logger(1) line
after above one which reported sendmail RC was 1. And user supposed to get
the email didn't.

Solution is trivial: either remove the -f$FROMADDR or add uucp to mail
group. I prefer the 1st opt.

The correct setting of return-path: belongs to sendmail config, imo.

I didn't realize this problem earlier since I'm using my own scripts since
long, but now I wanted to try and use those in the pkg.

Seems that changes in 2:4.3.1-7 don't touch thsi area.

thanks

Bug#394935: seeing this also

2007-01-10 Thread mike castleman
I'm seeing this also, though for me it is a new install rather than an
upgrade.

I tried strace'ing the script and the suspicious line is:

execve(/usr/sbin/slapcat, [/usr/sbin/slapcat, -f,
/etc/ldap/slapd.conf, -b, dc=democracynow,dc=org, |,
/bin/gzip], [/* 15 vars */]) = 0

It seems like for whatever reason, the | /bin/gzip is getting passed
as arguments to slapcat rather than parsed by the shell. Setting
compress=off in the task file allows the task to complete successfully,
so this is indeed the problem.

I looked quickly at the source and can't figure out what is wrong with
it. If no one else can solve the problem, I will see if I can figure it
out and provide a patch.

thx,
mike

can be reproduced by installing libdevel-logger-ruby1.8 from sarge (this
package isn't in etch), and it can be installed without any dependencies
problem.

Well, it seems that the old logger was not part of the same source as
ruby. I'm not sure if the conflicts should go to ruby unless the new
ruby also has devel/logger.rb or application.rb. This doesn't seem to be
the case though.

I think I'll just add the needed conflicts for Etch and remove it in the
next upload after Etch is released. Seems like that may be the path of
least resistance.

Thanks for the heads up.

I share Steinar's confusion about what $self-{'CURRENT_EMAIL_INDEX'}
should be used for and how it relates to $self-{'email_number'}

I renamed CURRENT_EMAIL_INDEX TO CHUNK_INDEX, and I've added the following
documentation:

 # Reading grep data provides us with an array of potential email
 # starting locations. However, due to included emails and attachments,
 # we have to validate these locations as actually being the start of
 # emails. As a result, there may be more chunks in the array than
 # emails. So CHUNK_INDEX = email_number-1.

I've found that when the grep implementation goes into an infinite loop,
it's because the grep data does not match the file, as would be the case
if the file was modified after grep was run. My next release will detect
this case and try to recover.

As a temporary workaround, I've disabled the Grep implementation in the
Debian package.

I'll ping you when the release comes out so that you can test it. (I'm not
sure how to recreate the bug myself.)

Comments on one of the emails are below.

BTW, I see from the link you provided that this is marked as closed. Did
1.4005 fix the bug or not?

If I had to guess, I'd assume $self-{'email_number'} was somehow a
_logical_ message number, and thus unfit for any sort of indexing.
That's a guess, though.

That's right. CURRENT_EMAIL_INDEX (now CHUNK_INDEX) refers to an entry in
the grep data array that corresponds to some block of text in the file
that begins From In the case that this block of text may not be the
start of a new email, we will need to continue incrementing CHUNK_INDEX
and reading more chunks.

Part of the reason seems to be that _adjust_cache_data() somehow merges
or deletes messages without adjusting email_number; I'm not really sure
what it is supposed to do.

At the end, after validating the start of the next email, I add up the
chunk entries to get the final, validated entry for the email.

As for not checking the result of read(), that was sloppy programming on
my part. I thought there was no way for the grep data and the file to get
out of sync, but apparently someone has found a way. :) I don't know what
the cause is in this case, but I'll try to detect and avoid/correct it in
the next release.

Bug#406288: Bad call to reload the services

That sounds like dangerous. Some daemons really do not like
force-reload. Autofs for example will try to unmount everything on a
force-reload with bad consequences we users are logged in and their
homes mounted.

Now, setting and option to use reload instead of force-reload would
require someone to look at every service entry in the repository before
doing the upgrade. That does not sound like an easy upgrade. I think
that the fallback to force-reload when the script returns an usage line
is more user friendly.

We have an analogous issue with fedora, except force-reload -
condrestart, so I was thinking about changing it chkconfig to use
condrestart...

I don't know fedora but I guess that the same applies.

thanks

Hi,

the attached patch makes the aacurses driver use black on black + bold
for the dim letters instead of the dim attribute, if the color is
available on the terminal. The reason is that A_DIM is ignored by linux
console and most of the X terminals I am aware off, and linux console
also reports that this attribute is supported, while rendering it the
same way as normal color. With this patch, all (3) levels of brightness
can be successfully utilized on the console :)

Bug#373127: updated patch with updated versions

2007-01-10 Thread Christoph Berg
Hi,

while looking at Brice's patch for twin, I also applied the patch for
#377810 and removed the hard-coding of the package version from
debian/rules and debian/control. The X frontend was also broken
(missing) because libxt-dev was missing from the build-depends.
Unfortunately, the bitops patch does not yet fix the tty frontend,
hence I will be uploading this NMU to experimental.

The resulting diff is quoted below - I'll upload to delayed/3 in a
minute.

Bug#406396: FuzzyOCR 3.5.1 is released; FuzzyOCR 2.3b is deprecated.

2007-01-10 Thread Ian Turner
Package: fuzzyocr
Version: 2.3b-2

Although only released last August, the maintainers of FuzzyOCR view version
2.3b as deprecated. Quoth one of the authors:

[the devel version] isn't considered 'unstable', more like 'testing'. It has
major improvements and because the old 2.3 branch has some
unsolved problems, it might even be more reliable.

Installation of the new version isn't markedly different from the old version,
so it shouldn't be much trouble to update the package. The biggest thing to
be aware of is new dependencies.

If you need help updating the package, let me know.

--enable-quicktime in 0.90. debian/rules still uses the old syntax,
though. This is a regression with respect to the version in sarge and

Bug#406393: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#406393: rc script: avoiding use of Sed

2007-01-10 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Ivan Baldo]
That should be faster than using sed because sed is an external
program and a complex one by the way.

Thank you for the patch. I will test it and see if we can use it.

P.s.: I see that initscripts are incorporating special comments to
declare dependencies, is there any aproximative timeline as to when
that information will start to be used and will be required by all
initscripts?

It is currently only recommended to use them, and several scripts are
missing this header. But lintian warns about those missing them, so I
hope in a not to distant future all init.d scripts will have
dependency information. I believe most of the packages in the base
and desktop profile already have this header present. You can reorder
the boot sequence already by installing and activating the insserv
package, but it is a bit experimental and not for production use.

Friendly,

Bug#406400: nexuiz: Open security fixes in Etch

2007-01-10 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Package: nexuiz
Version: 2.1-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

I'm currently busy and hadn't had the time to investigate it myself yet,
but it should be tracked for Etch:

Nexuiz 2.2.1 fixed two vulnerabilities:
http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=470675group_id=81584

- fixed fake players DoS (CVE-2006-6609)
- fixed clientcommands remote console command injection (CVE-2006-6610)

If the second vulnerability refers to shell command execution and not
to some kind of in-game-console ala Quake this warrants an RC security
bug.

Cheers,
Moritz

I noticed that splash screen does not disappear, similar like first
report.

Same as others: this is most likely caused by another program and has
nothing to do with gnome-session. Please attach your ~/.gnome2/session
file.

It's attached. Moving it away though doesn't help very much. The programm

One thing I see is the following error, which looks suspect:

In ddd I see the following:

Bug#406407: libnotify-bin: notify-send do not display icons

2007-01-10 Thread Oliver Cordes
Package: libnotify-bin
Version: 0.4.3-1
Severity: normal

I just created an icon from a larger display and tried to show the icon
with the -i option. No luck! The original version of this image was
shown perfectly. I tried also serveral other images with different
formats gif, png, jpeg but without luck. If there is any limitation in
formats or size it should be mentioned in the man page!

Bug#401258: Reclose bug

2007-01-10 Thread Brian May
Peter == Peter Palfrader writes:

Peter Now hprop gets disabled again in upgrades from sarge to
Peter etch, and when the package is removed - not purged - the
Peter services still are enabled.

Peter Both of these issues would have been fixed with my version
Peter of the patch.

Unfortunately, there are a number of tradeoffs. I really don't like
the idea of dpkg messing around with config files for every
upgrade. An administrator may just have used update-inetd to disable
the entry, and doesn't want it to be re-enabled.

I did try to raise the issue at:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/12/msg00197.html

but unfortunately, I only got one response that agrees the solution I
implemented.

If you still disagree, then please raise the issue on debian-devel, I
will follow what ever action is decided on debian-devel.

(we really do need some consistent method of implementing this inetd
stuff in all packages).

Bug#406405: gchempaint: Doesn't show text that is grouped with a molecule

2007-01-10 Thread randall
Package: gchempaint
Version: 0.6.6-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

Here is how to reproduce the bug:
Group some text with a molecule and save. As soon as you reload this file, the
text is gone. If you open this
gchempaint file with a text editor, this XML information is still there. It
just doesn't display the text in
gchempaint. If you can't reproduce this bug I can send you an example.

Keep up the good work!

We use apt-ftparchive.

Anyway, there's one more header: Debconf-Frontend. Don't know what its
purpose is exactly, and it's used at only one place, but I guess it
should then be included too...

Debconf-Frontend is experimental; we intend to use it to improve
cdebconf plugin support, but it isn't actually implemented yet.
