Bug#409479: ppp: [INTL:da] Updated Danish debconf translation
I am not sure how what repo is Marco using, but if anyone cares i have been keeping track of ppp's changes (and sybcing with releases) in darcs. A copy of my repo is available and can be browsed[1] with a regular browser or cloned/branched/got via darcs: darcs get --set-scripts-executable http://users.alioth.debian.org/~eddyp-guest/darcs/ppp/ OK. Given the recent answer by Marco, I think we can go for a short call for translations with a deadline like Feb 8th 23:59 if the call is posted today. Eddy, would you mind posting it ? I think that you can do both a call for updates: podebconf-report-po --summary --deadline=Feb 8th 23:59 UTC And a call for new translations: podebconf-report-po --call --deadline=Feb 8th 23:59 UTC signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#408818: eth1
Hi there de-buggers Ive lost the bug report number. Im the guy that had the problem where the installer could only give me an ethernet connection when I ran with: install interface=eth1 Anyway I reinstalled Deb and it worked correctly the second time. Could this be because there already was a Debian OS installed the second time and the installer got the settings from the OS? The first time I installed onto a blank hard drive. I did put a couple of: set -x into the file ethdetect not sure if I put them in the right places or in fact Im not sure if the was the right file. If anybody wants to give me clear instructions, or point me to a URL with clear instructions I will do it all again from a blank hard drive and see what happens and what we can find out. Anyway Im not particularly concerned about it now, as Ive got everything I want and thats a good operating system. Copying that to /var/lib/texmf/web2c and running texhash solves the problem. Of course, this should not be necessary. On installation the context package should create a format file and put it (probably) in /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex, but it seems that one is not found. Bug#409602: bumprace locks up when game over during crash
Package: bumprace Version: 1.5.2-1 Severity: grave Justification: causes non-serious data loss I crashed (in 1-player mode) my ship during the last ticks of the clock, so that Crashed and timeout were on screen simultaneously. After that, it asked me to enter my name for the high score list, but the keyboard was not working. I switched to a vc to kill the program, after which the resolution of my desktop was wrong, and the mouse was no longer working. I managed to shut down the running programs using keyboard shortcuts, but I don't expect normal users to be able to do this. They'd have to restart the computer, or at least X, which is why I consider this a data-loss bug. Feel free to downgrade the severity if you disagree. Bug#383470: rrdtool generates overlarge graphs.
On 4 Feb 2007, at 03:04, David Martínez Moreno wrote: Hello, Yuri. Could you please explain yourself a bit? First of all, do you experience yet the problem? I would need to know further your case in order to reproduce it. Is it associated with a specific dataset, or is it erratic and happens with several sources? Does 14all.cgi uses rrdtool graph or some binding to generate the graphs? I've been experiencing the bug for several weeks, then reported it, and then it continued to be reproducible for a couple of months. Due to my lack of time and some other problems with rrdtool graphs in general I switched to a custom solution, so I no longer use rrdtool since a long time. The setup at that time was a pretty common mrtg+rrdtool+14all.cgi setup. 14all.cgi uses the rrdtool perl bindings provided by the rrdtool package. 14all.cgi is/was a stable package (it wasn't updated in years). The problem wasn't associated with any specific dataset. It happened on any source that it was monitored, but it happened occasionally (I can speculate it depended on the dataset, since the problem was consistent). One of the possible results is still here: http://www.yuv.info/~wavexx/tmp/index.png (there's some referrer checking, but it's still valid: access it directly). Unfortunately I don't have any means to check if the problem is still there. As for my other reports about rrdtool, if you can't get more evidence, close them. I can't debug them now. Thanks

Bug#408981: samba: smbd 3.0.23a and later does parse multiple backends in passdb backend
On Tue, Jan 30, 2007 at 07:04:59AM +0100, Christian Perrier wrote: The samba packaging team decided to include code for fixing smb.conf *when that file contains the (wrong) value we were providing by default on sarge*, namely: passbd backend = tdbsam, guest We *only* fix the default provided smb.conf file, *not* user crafted smb.conf file, to respect the wise Debian package mantra: thou shalt not change user-modified settings. More precisely, we fix any settings that include the (already deprecated) 'guest' backend as a trailing option. But in a case of using multiple backends other than guest, I don't think we should presume to auto-upgrade. I have passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://localhost, tdbsam You should remove the comma and everything will work as before. Please note, however that tdbsam here is now useless. I doubt it will, it will probably still be broken because the passdb backend value is still being parsed as a single value, not a list. Anyway, I think the suggestion of a NEWS item or a debconf error message (in the case of a comma-separated list that we can't auto-migrate) is a good one. I know you won't be happy about adding a debconf template at this late stage, Christian, but even untranslated it would probably be better than giving users no warning on upgrade. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#409612: xlibs-data: Modifier mappings broken
Package: xlibs-data Version: 1:7.1.0-11 Severity: important The modifier mappings in stock keyboard layouts are broken. For details, I'll just attach the Ion FAQ entry below from http://iki.fi/tuomov/ion/faq/entries/Modifier_releases.html. (I have not myself experienced that problem, though -- I don't use Xkb crud at all, because customisation of Xkb based layouts is too laboursome, difficult, undocumented etc. -- but users have experienced it on various systems, and this seems the easiest channel to report the problem.) --- _Ion doesn't notice that a modifier has been released (in actions that use like `kpress_wait`, such as META+C, or in “grabmenus”)._ This is most likely to be an X bug/keyboard misconfiguration, when you have changed the “META” key of Ion to Mod4, or something else that supposed has one of the Win-keys bound to it. For some reason, some Xorg comes with some totally broken stock keyboard layouts that define multiple keycodes for the `Super_L` and such “keysyms”, one of them spurious. However, various part of X or Xlib can not handle that, and report the wrong keycode when queried.sup1/sup To check if this is the case, first run `xmodmap` to check what key is bound to the Mod4 (or perhaps Mod3 depending on the configuration) modifier. You may see a line like this: mod4Super_L (0x7f), Hyper_L (0x80) The number 0x7f=127 is the keycode, and this is highly likely the wrong keycode. Check with `xmodmap -pke|grep Super_L` to see what keycodes have `Super_L` bound to them. If you see something like this, your keymap is misconfigured: keycode 115 = Super_L keycode 127 = NoSymbol Super_L The keycode 115 is the keycode for the real left Win key, and 127 is spurious. However, the modifier subsystem only seems to see the latter. Putting the following commands in `~/.Xmodmap` and runnning `xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap` should fix the issue. You may also want/need to repeat for the other Win keys (`Hyper_L` and 0x80=127 in our example case). remove mod4 = Super_L keycode 127 = NoSymbol add mod4 = Super_L (The `remove` command is needed for some reason to not confuse X.) Unless your system configuration is totally weird (and I wouldn't put it past systems built to run Gnome), next time you start X, `~/.Xmodmap` should be loaded automatically. On a working modifier configuration running `xmodmap` should display a line like below (0x73 following `Super_L` being the important part). mod4Super_L (0x73) --- sup1/sup `XKeysymToKeycode` in particular can only return one keycode. However, `XGetModifierMapping` should be able to report more, but for some reason doesn't. Maybe it uses the former. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=fi_FI.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages xlibs-data depends on: ii libx11-6 2:1.0.0-8 X11 client-side library ii xbitmaps 1.0.1-2Base X bitmaps ii xcursor-themes1.0.1-4Base X cursor themes xlibs-data recommends no packages. -- no debconf information

Bug#409472: ttf-dejavu: Condensed fonts not working
I have also a laptop running sid, and kde. I am able to use DejaVu Serif Condensed font. I don't fully understand why desktop is unable to use the font. Please advise. Two possible causes: * you're using an old DejaVu version ( 2.9) * you're not using the newest fontconfig (2.4.2). The reason why: we set in DejaVu 2.9 the so called preferred family and preferred subfamily tags. That didn't really affect anyone back then since there was nothing that supported it in the Linux world. The idea behind these preferred families is that some environments only support four styles of the same font (regular, italic, bold and bold italic). Any other style that would belong to that family cannot be accessed. Hence we have two different family names for the normal and the condensed faces. example in dejavu: sans book: family: dejavu sans; subfamily: book sans condensed book: family: dejavu condensed sans; subfamily: book However, more advanced programs can handle more than four font styles, so you want to be able to tell in a font that condensed fonts are really from the same family as the regular ones. That's why preferred family/subfamily was added: these ones have the names advanced programs should use. example in dejavu: sans book: pref. family: dejavu sans; pref. subfamily: book sans condensed book: pref. family: dejavu sans; pref. subfamily: condensed As said, no-one probably noticed these new tags until fontconfig 2.4.2 came out: fontconfig now suddenly started using the preferred families of a font. Which had the consequence that all software depending on fontconfig now all saw the condensed sans fonts in the one big dejavu sans family. Now, unfortunately Qt (and thus also KDE) doesn't support condensed fonts variants in the same family. Consequence: no condensed fonts from dejavu in KDE anymore. So after this little history, the possible solutions if you want to have condensed: * fix Qt -- the only proper way, but the most difficult one of course. * patch fontconfig to disable preferred families, bug #401411 can help, but then you'll disable them for all other fonts and for gnome (which supports more styles in the same font a little bit better) * or just don't upgrade to fontconfig 2.4.2 and keep using 2.4.1 * patch DejaVu to remove the preferred family tags. I hope this clarifies the complete situation about this and explains why people get different results sometimes. Bug#409619: synaptic: text width set to 80 columns
Package: synaptic Version: 0.57.11.1+b1 Severity: wishlist Hi, The text in the package description window is set to a fixed width (or line lenght) of 80 columns. Maybe this is ok for a console program, but for a GUI program it wastes a lot of screen space at small font sizes (in my system a half of the description window is wasted). Please, don't set the text to a fixed width, wrap it to the window. Maybe this is not a problem of synaptic itself, simply the descriptions are written this way, but they can be easily adapted to synaptic replacing \nletter with letter using a script. Bug#398877: vm should depend on emacs21 *OR emacs-snapshot*

While VM might indeed work with emacs-snapshot, it is not really something I support, since I don't yet run emacs-snapshot, and a bleeding edge emacs is not something I want to be saddled with supporting. That doesn't make much sense; if you're serious about this you should also skip byte-compilation for emacs-snapshot in your install script, and avoid registering VM's entry points (in vm-init.el) when running in emacs-snapshot. At the moment, having emacs21 installed alongside emacs-snapshot is enough to make your vm package support emacs-snapshot. If you are unable to find a pre-compiled module for your OS, they can be found at: http://www.cpan.org/modules/01modules.index.html If you installed the modules in another installation of perl besides the one listed in the error message, you may override Bastille's search path by setting the $CORRECT_PERL_PATH environment variable to the directory that the desired perl binary is located in. If you don't want to use the default X11 interface then run 'bastille -c'. Is there any process in this case that happened here? Patrick, No problems. We just need to configure a -3 build which encorporates what has been delivered by the -2 upload. Which I think it does already. The question is of timing. Do we wait until -2 is accepted and then propose the -3 upload. Or do we just upload -3 and ask debian-release to unblock. Package: iceweasel Version: 2.0.0.1+dfsg-2 Severity: normal In any text input field with blank space remaining after the data in the field, left-clicking on the empty right-hand portion of the field puts the cursor at the very left (first) position in the field. This bug does not exist in Konqueror. $ echo input type=text value=0 test.html $ iceweasel -safe-mode test.html Now: 1. Check all 5 Safe Mode options and click Continue in Safe Mode; a lone text field with the value 0 appears. 2. Click somewhere in the empty right-hand half of the text field. One would expect the cursor to go immediately after the 0, but instead it goes *before* the 0. 3. If you click the empty space a few pixels to the right of the 0, the cursor goes there. Bug#409401: tetex-frogg: wrong dependency: s/tetex-base/texlive-latex-base|tetex-bin/
severity 409401 important thanks Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: tetex-frogg Depends: tetex-base. However, tetex-base does not provide any functionality to use the files included in tetex-frogg. Instead, it needs the latex or bibtex commands. This seems to be a general problem with a couple of packages. It doesn't seem to be a problem in practice - otherwise it would have been detected earlier. And in fact it could be argued that tetex-frogg kind of enhances tetex-base (which means it wouldn't need any dependence at all), and can be used by tetex-bin or texlive-latex-base. Anyway, I don't think this sort of bugs (in this and other packages) would warrant exclusion from etch, therefore I lower the severity. Note, however, that tetex-base is going to vanish in lenny - then this bug will be RC again. And it doesn't hurt to fix it even in etch. Bug#409547: [Vladimir Volovich] tex-common: TEXMFCNF setting in 85Misc.cnf
Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dear Vladimir, please use the list address for communication with the TeX maintainers, thanks. Now this is a bug report, please keep the bugnumber address in Cc - you can drop any other addresses. - On the other hand, on a TeX Live based system: access(/usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf, R_OK) = 0 stat64(/usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=25611, ...}) = 0 access(/usr/share/texmf-texlive/web2c/texmf.cnf, R_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf, O_RDONLY) = 3 So there's no actual duplication in TeX Live. The informational setting in texmf.cnf in tex-common should probably be corrected to match the texlive case is it because of a compile-time default for TEXMFCNF? Just to remember this, I send this to the bug report. Finally, it needs to be fixed in tex-common, but not before the settings in texlive are settled. Bug#405973: Same problem here
I have the same problem here. Some infos: the bugs only occours when there is a collection to open at startup, i.e. if the file parameter in $HOME/.config/gcstar/GCstar.conf is set. Cleaning by hand the parameter allows me to run gcstar and open the collection using the File menu: I have to do this every time I restart gcstar. I don't know if this make difference, but my collections have been imported from gcfilm files. You can try to reproduce the bug using the attached .gcs file and setting the File parameter accordingly. One last thing: I guess Marco is Italian like me, anyway forcing locale to C doesn't seem to solve the bug, so it might be just a coincidence. Bug#409645: fuse-utils: Installation unusable for many reasons
Package: fuse-utils Version: 2.6.2-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Fuse got installed, probably as a dependency from something else. All of a sudden, I get on my bootup a failure started fuse module. I never elected to start this. Maybe initscripts activated it. However: The /etc/init.d/fuse-utils script has: 1.
