Bug#420197: bacula-director-pgsql: ERROR TERMINATION at parse_conf.c:884 and other errors on upgrade

Is it to late for me to downgrade back to the version I was using? If the database did not get successfully upgraded, and the configuration is unmodified, it should work OK to do so. Is there an easy way to check if these things have happened. By configuration do you mean the /etc/ files, or something else? That path, however, is untested. -- John I guess I better start looking at the Debian installation scripts... Nothing happened at the SQL level. For example, the version table is still at 9, and there was no success (or failure) message in the log. The use of the psql 8.1 client is hard-coded into the scripts; however, if I run it on the command line it connects to the default port, and gets the 7.4 server (which has the tables). I'm not sure why it didn't run. It might have been the earlier error that stopped it, or it might have been that my first configuration parameter below superseded the second (from /etc/dbconfig-common/bacula-director-pgsql.conf): of # dbc_install: configure database with dbconfig-common? # set to anything but true to opt out of assistance dbc_install='false' # dbc_upgrade: upgrade database with dbconfig-common? # set to anything but true to opt out of assistance dbc_upgrade='true' There are at least two problems that might thwart an automatic upgrade: 1) configuration files contain invalid parameters. 2) databases in non-standard places or servers. I definitely had the first, and might have the second. I'm not sure in either case what reasonable behavior for the package should be. I forced a downgrade to stable, apparently successfully. However, the first error message in my original report appears in this context too: Setting up bacula-director-pgsql (1.38.11-8) ... Who knows, this behavior might even be intended. After all, that's how MS Windows works, and the Mozilla developers may want to emulate its misfeatures even on superior platforms. Hmmm ... sounds trollish ;) Looks like I've been reading too many postings on www.heise.de recently and adopted the tone that ist generally used there. ;-) Anyway, I downgraded the severity to wishlist, since this is probably not a bug after all. Bug#416841: 416841: MySql etch version + 2.4 kernel fails
Since there seem to be contradictory reports or claims about whether the released version of mysql 5.0 worked with 2.4 kernels, I thought I'd add my experience: it doesn't. I was running testing with a custom built (the Debian way) 2.4.27 kernel and ran into trouble with a recent upgrade (#420202). I gave stable a high priority, and here's what happened: # apt-get -q install mysql-server-5.0 [...] Preparing to replace mysql-server-5.0 5.0.38-1 (using .../mysql-server-5.0_5.0.32-7etch1_i386.deb) ... Bug#419182: kiax: sound quality very poor compared to skype
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: kiax Version: 0.8.51.dfsg-2-1 Severity: normal I can't figure it out. I have skype 1.3.0.53 and the sound quality for a test call is almost crystal clear. When I try to use kiax with iax.fwdnet.net, the sound quality is so bad as to be unusable. Initially I suspected that I was getting poor sound quality due to network delay so I registered two computers on my local LAN with FWD. I called from one to the other. Now, if I understand FWD correctly, the audio data is routed directly between the callers (not through FWD) so this test should eliminate all network delay. Still, I found the sound quality unchanged -- very poor. I tried GSM, speex, and ULaw. I turned off all the audio filters and silence detection. It still sounded terrible. Any suggestions would be welcome. I loath to use Skype because it is proprietary software and IAX should be superior. When comparing the sound quality of skype and kiax you should have in mind that skype uses a (prioprietary) wideband codec in contrast to kiax which uses a sample rate of 8000 samples per second. You should compare kiax to another softphones using 8k samplerate. For example twinkle which also supports wideband speex codecs. IAX doesn't support wideband codecs. The Linux SG3 interface does not work properly when a 32bit app is talking to a 64bit kernel. Maybe. But with 2.6.20.3 kernel, on the same sparc, I can use this scanner (with libsane that comes with sarge), but system is not stable. I don't see any diff on sg driver between 2.6.20.3 and 2.6.21-rc7. You can either: - try to do a 64bit build of sane-backends - try to use the old SG interface, if still exists/works Unfortunately, both options are unfit for Debian; 64bit binaries would require to rebuild all the dependency chain, and using the old SG interface won't last long :/ Thus, any issue or workaround ? Bug#420262: havp: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates review
Package: havp Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Sunday, April 08, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for havp. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. Please try to avoid uploading havp with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until Sunday, May 06, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. On Monday, May 07, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-486 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- /home/bubulle/travail/debian/rewrite/LCFC/havp/havp.old/debian/havp.templates.master 2007-04-05 22:58:03.196143462 +0200 +++ /home/bubulle/travail/debian/rewrite/LCFC/havp/havp/debian/havp.templates.master 2007-04-21 10:47:03.893959358 +0200 @@ -1,19 +1,30 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# for an advice to [EMAIL PROTECTED] +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: havp/loopback_mount Type: boolean Default: true -_Description: Do you want to create a loopback spool filesystem? +_Description: Do you want to create a loopback spool file system? Bug#420193: libsane on sparc64 with SCSI scanner
BERTRAND Joël [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, Have you diffed the 2 libsane versions yet ? (the backend you're using + common code in sanei/ for a start) No, I don't, because I have to find a couple libsane/kernel that works on sparc64 and another that doesn't work, and I cannot reboot my U2 only to make test. No, I meant looking at the code in both SANE versions and see if there's anything that rings a bell in the diff. No, not at the moment, I'm afraid. Can you try to run the libsane version from sarge on the sparc and see if it still works ? I have tried, but without success. I have tried 1.0.14, 1.0.16 and 1.0.18. Maybe, like mysql-server bug on sparc64, trouble comes from glibc or dark side of kernel itself... Ouch! So libsane from sarge works on an older kernel, and doesn't work on the newer one ? IMO this one can be rejected because it's not a bug in yaboot but an Ubuntu liveCD one. The live CD use the cd: alias, which with an external drive rarely points to the right device. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

So, etch is released, and I've started playing warzone2100 on it. Bug#420277: iceape: emailing attachments doesn't work (from command line/scripts)
Package: iceape Version: 1.0.8-4 Severity: important hi, mozilla/thunderbird used to open the msg compose window with the named file attachd, ie % thunderbird -compose attachment='file:///home/me/rsync.log' would start a new msg with rsync.log in attachments list, whereas % iceape -compose attachment='file:///home/amsis/rsyncom.log' opens just the compose window and the attachments list is void. Bug#407574: kdvi should *recommend* texlive-fonts-recommended, not *depend* on it!
In the old version 4:3.5.5-3 kdvi recommended the now obsolete tetex-bin. The new version 4:3.5.6-2 depends on texlive -fonts-recommended, which also pulls in texlive-common, -base, and -base-bin. These dependencies may not be wanted, as in my own case where I have already installed TeXLive2007 directly from the TUG distro in my /usr/local/texlive/2007 tree. I can live with kdvi *recommending* texlive package(s), but not with *depending* on them. -- Henk Koster Behavioral axioms are right, but agents make mistakes. Attributed to L.J. Bug#56440: lintian: Should check for shlibs that with incorrect package name
On Mon, Jan 31, 2000 at 04:21:46PM -0500, Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I can't see any reason a package would list any packages other than itself in its shlibs file. I suggest putting the check in, and if there are lots of packages doing this then we can pursue in policy why and whether it's worthwhile. But I really doubt it's the case. Lots of packages list other packages in their shlibs files. For example, all the xaw replacement libraries must do this. Hm, I just realized something. I belive that policy or the packaging manual currently says that packages that contain libraries should include shlibs files. But why? Wouldn't it make more sense if the shlibs file was in the associated -dev package? After all, the contents of the file only matters if you are doing development with the library. The file format is such they could be moved over wholesale to -dev packages with no changes. Then the proposed lintian check would make sense, though there will still be exceptions. 7 years later, I got hit by this in one of my packages. It would have helped if lintian gave me at least a warning about the shlibs content... Sure there are exceptions, but on my system, there are 17 over 381 shlibs. As far as it is known to be exceptions, it's not a problem to have the warnings there, they could even be put in lintian overrides... Note that you may use 'xrandr --output VGA --mode 1024x768' to change to 1024x768 at runtime. It looks like your old 1280x1024 is not detected here because hsync and vrefresh are out of range. BTW, do you use a package such as 915resolution? IIRC, it is not required anymore since it modifies BIOS tables that are not used anymore by the new driver. I see that you already reported the bug at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10623 so I am marking this bug as forwarded. Bug#407574: kdvi should *recommend* texlive-fonts-recommended, not *depend* on it!
On Saturday 21 April 2007, Henk Koster wrote: In the old version 4:3.5.5-3 kdvi recommended the now obsolete tetex-bin. The new version 4:3.5.6-2 depends on texlive -fonts-recommended, which also pulls in texlive-common, -base, and -base-bin. well.. I consider it a bug in the old versions that it was only recommends. kdvi fails to do almost anything - especially viewing plain documents - without having the fonts and the kpsewitch binary installed. If you try using kdvi on a document without those things installed, you will gets lots and lots of error messages. So kdvi needs it to work. The way to declare that in debian is by using a Depends: line. These dependencies may not be wanted, as in my own case where I have already installed TeXLive2007 directly from the TUG distro in my /usr/local/texlive/2007 tree. well.. when you install stuff from source without telling the package managre that you do it, you will run into all sorts of things like this. Generally it is not supported - but you might be able to look into the equivs program to help you hack around it. I can live with kdvi *recommending* texlive package(s), but not with *depending* on them. Sorry. /Sune -- How can I do for forwarding to a space bar? Package: libpcre3 Version: 6.7-1 Severity: wishlist From the NEWS file: Important changes that are visible to users are: 1. The Unicode property tables have been updated to Unicode 5.0.0, which adds some more scripts. 2. The option PCRE_NEWLINE_ANY causes PCRE to recognize any Unicode newline sequence as a newline. 3. The \R escape matches a single Unicode newline sequence as a single unit. 4. New features that will appear in Perl 5.10 are now in PCRE. These include alternative Perl syntax for named parentheses, and Perl syntax for recursion. 5. The C++ wrapper interface has been extended by the addition of a QuoteMeta function and the ability to allow copy construction and assignment. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages libpcre3 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries libpcre3 recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#238237: Have grep reply with a useful error message
Wouldn't it make sense to have grep reply with 'For the reasons laid out in bug #238237, grep does not support -P. Please use pcregrep instead' or something along those lines? This would nicely solve the /usr issue, not require static linking and still give the user an immediate solution to this very unexpected problem. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. This is common and has a number of causes; the usual solutions are to read the manual pages then download and install needed JAR files, or fix the build file: - You have misspelt 'symlink'. Fix: check your spelling. - The task needs an external JAR file to execute and this is not found at the right place in the classpath. Fix: check the documentation for dependencies. Fix: declare the task. ... This is the same error message when ant-optional is not installed. Bug#420177: libdrm2: the output of my /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg-core/script 31
Could you try with the nv driver instead? You might have to take it from experimental (xserver-xorg-video-nv 1:2.0.2-1). I already have this version of xserver-xorg-video-nv and I already tried with nv in xorg.conf. X starts but it's very slow You are using xserver-xorg-core 1.3.0, I guess this is the upgrade that causes this problem, not libdrm2. The problem is probably that the nvidia driver is not ready for this new X server. Could you try downgrading xserver-xorg-core to testing 2:1.1.1-21? I'm think you're right, While I upgraded libdrm, I upgraded xserver-xorg-core too. I reported this bug in libdrm only due to the changelog read in this package thinking something about the permissions changes from 660 to 666. I guess both these modules are provided by the nvidia package which is probably incompatible with xserver-xorg-core 1.3. So, if you want DRI and don't care about using an ugly binary driver, try downgrading xserver-xorg-core to testing. If you don't need DRI, just drop the nvidia driver and use the nv one (from experimental for now, will be in unstable in a couple days). The nv module is very slow and not accellerated. Next step will probably be to reassign this bug to the nvidia driver and pray... This is a great idea Brice Thank you -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
