Bug#426238: not any more the reported error, but not syncing anyway

2007-05-28 Thread Mario Frasca
good morning Kurt,

the 'kernel time sync error 0001' messages only appear *before* the
reboot with kernel 2.6.21 (May 27 18:04:20)... previously I was running
2.6.18... but the time resets needed are still out of control.

I assume that ntpd killed itself after the failing sanity check at
(May 28 03:44:53)

how can we exclude a hardware problem?

Bug#426348: tk8.4-dev: please ship the compat subdirectory.

2007-05-28 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: tk8.4-dev
Version: 8.4.12-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear maintainer,

I am trying to build a program with Debian's tk8.4 a program which needs
files from the compat directory. Do you think that you could ship it in
the /usr/include/tcl8.4/tk-private directory with the tk8.4-dev package?

If yes, as I am using Etch, do you think that a backport or an update
could be provided?

Of course, it there were a workaround, I would be most happy to use it
and close this bug... My particular problem has been discussed on
debian-mentors in the following thread:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2007/05/msg00359.html

Many thanks in advance,

Yes; it's in the pkg-gstreamer, under unstable/flumotion; build with
svn-buildpackage from the svn checkout (you simply need to repack the
 upstream tarball into .tar.gz).

Hi folks,

The latest upload of suitesparse fails to build on all architectures because
it build-depends on libgfortran1-dev, but libgfortran1-dev is not in
unstable.

Please test your package builds against a clean unstable environment before
uploading.

Bug#426352: gambas2: doesn't correctly render on Xfce

2007-05-28 Thread David Paleino
Package: gambas2
Version: 1.9.49-2
Severity: important

Hi all,
it's some time I can't get gambas2 IDE render correctly on my xfce.
Other Qt applications don't look as ugly as it, therefore I believe
it's a gambas2 bug.

Here are some screenshots:

http://www.hanskalabs.net/private/gambas1.png
http://www.hanskalabs.net/private/gambas2.png

The first is the welcome screen, while the second is the new project
dialog.

As you might understand, this look makes the IDE quite unusable.

Kind regards,
David

Bug#418678: state of the ITP

2007-05-28 Thread Torsten Werner

Hi Arnaud,

both ITPs are blocking a number of other ITPs. Are you still actively
working on both packages? When ca we expect an initial upload? Do you
need help?

Cheers,
Torsten

Bug#426356: krita: Impossible to add any text after deleting/font changing

2007-05-28 Thread patrick295767
Package: krita
Version: 1:1.6.1-2
Severity: normal

Dear Sir,

I am workign with krita. I decided to use other time of fonts and play
around with it. I deleted two layer of text. Then click on properties,
play with the type of layer; then went in font menu in text window, then
choosed for arial 12 then got the locked document for any further adds
of text.
I can add any forms but no text any more.

Beside the space action, please could you do as in adobe illustrator,
mouse 1 while space makes it travel in the document.

In your case, it is space then you are in traveling mode. then space
again to return to the tool, man, it looks lame this program compared
to illustrator.

Sincerely and thousand thanks for developing for Linux

Patrick

Bug#426355: libonig SEGV when using UTF-8 encoding

2007-05-28 Thread John E. Davis
Package: libonig-dev
Version: 5.2.0-1
Severity: grave

The following (see below) simple C program produces a SEGV in
onig_new. To see this, compile the code using, e.g.,

   gcc bug.c -lonig

and then run it:

   ./a.out

On my debian etch system, I see:

  Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I set the severity level to grave because this bug makes the library
unusable to me.

Valgrind shows where the error occurs:

After todays upgrade, font sizes in Epiphany are too big. This does not apply
to font sizes set in points, pixels et
c, but to the default font size and large, small, et c. The font sizes of
GNOME have not changed. This is what was
upgraded today, so I'm guessing libxul is to blame:

Could you tell me on what pages you see this ?

I'm sorry, I never got the earlier e-mail for some reason.

I just tried it again, and verified that the bug still exists in
 xfdesktop4 4.4.1-2. I've attached a screenshot of the buggy

I really can't reproduce this:
http://heracles.corsac.net/~corsac/debian/xfce/sunset.png but I don't
have a 4:3 display. If you resize manually the picture to be 1024x768
does this still happen?

I'll try to trigger the bug by resizing a 1280x854 backdrop to something
less and let xfdesktop resize it.

Bug#426352: gambas2: doesn't correctly render on Xfce

2007-05-28 Thread L. Redrejo
Sorry, but I don't see any error in your screenshots. The only thing I
apreciate is the big size of the windows. In gambas it depends on the
size of the default fonts in qt. Debian qt default configuration is
really awful, so you should change it.
I attach you the file qtrc (to be placed in ~/.qt/) I use without any
problem. You can do your own configuration installing the package
kcontrol and changing the size of the fonts by yourself.

Please, confirm me that's your problem to close this bug.
Regards.

 Hi all,
it's some time I can't get gambas2 IDE render correctly on my xfce.
Other Qt applications don't look as ugly as it, therefore I believe
 it's a gambas2 bug.

 Here are some screenshots:

The first is the welcome screen, while the second is the new project

As you might understand, this look makes the IDE quite unusable.

Bug#423997: dares: Aborts while scanning UDF image

2007-05-28 Thread Michael Hanke

Hi,

Thanks for your report.

I looked at the code, but although I could determine where the error
occurs I do not yet understand why it happens. Dares aborts while
checking conditions that should always be, but for your image obviously
aren't.

I contacted the upstream author, but he also fails to see what happens.

I'd be glad if you could provide some more information. If possible
perhaps a snippet of the image file that causes the error.

Bye,

Michael

About 2 years ago, you reported (or replied to) a bug in the Debian BTS

recently? With Xorg/Etch? With latest xserver-xorg-core and

gambas2 no longer builds from source on numerous *32-bit* architectures.
 This is due to:

* Upstream will not support 64 bits archs before gambas3, so gambas will be
built only for 32 bits architectures (Closes: #404966)

The 32-bit architectures that Debian support is not limited to i386,
powerpc and sparc. Please add the following architectures:

arm armel hppa kfreebsd-i386 m68K mips mipsel s390

I know, but upstream doen't support any of those architecturas and is
not going to do it. In fact I'm thinking of reducing all the gambas
stuff to i386. I know it has some problems in ppc as well that are not
going to be fixed in the medium term either. And I can not fix the
problems all those architectures have by myself without the upstream

Bug#426359: fgetty: checkpassword error for nis account

2007-05-28 Thread Arvind Marathe
Package: fgetty
Version 0.6-4

My debian machine is a nis-client. When i try to login using a nis username and
passwd on tty1, it says:
checkpassword: wrong password
This started happening recently after i did an 'apt-get dist-upgrade', so i
think this might be happening with the upgraded version of fgetty. Earlier i
could login using nis accounts on tty1. (And i have not installed a separate
checkpassword package, so it is the one shipped with fgetty) Note that on xdm, i
can login using nis accounts, so it is not a nis configuration problem. Have
attached the contents of /etc/inittab below.

Bug#426204: Segmentation fault: *** glibc detected *** powertop: munmap_chunk(): invalid

2007-05-28 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

If you can reproduce the problem, try running powetop in valgrind to
pinpoint it. You can run it like this to not mess up the output:

  valgrind --log-file=/tmp/powertoplog powertop

valgrind work best if powertop is compiled with debug information
included (-g) and not stripped, but it might give some clues about the
problem even without debug information in the binary.

Happy hacking,

Bug#423498: Still getting missing library error

2007-05-28 Thread Sorceror

This bug is not fixed in smc package version 0.99.6-1.1. Instealling the
libcegui-mk2-dev package is not a sensible solution, as this problems seems
more like a missing symlink in libcegui-mk2-0c2a package (
libCEGUIDevILImageCodec.so should point to libCEGUIDevILImageCodec.so.0.0.0
).

It's also not right that the bug should be closed before the packages are
tested by the users who have the problem, let alone on a we believe.

Should also be noted that the other libcegui libraries cause similar
failures on load (once the DevILImageCodec has been symlinked):
$ smc
CEGUI Exception occurred : DynamicModule::DynamicModule - Failed to load
module 'libCEGUIXercesParser.so': libCEGUIXercesParser.so: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

Once that symlink was created:
$ smc
Couldn't open preferences file : /home/user/.smc/config.xml
CEGUI Exception occurred : DynamicModule::DynamicModule - Failed to load
module 'libCEGUIFalagardWRBase.so': libCEGUIFalagardWRBase.so: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

I'm guessing the preferences thing is normal, as this should be created on
first run. Once this final link is made, the game seems to be perfect. After
running once, a second time presents no errors on load (not even the prefs
error) :)

2007-05-28 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

About a year ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding your
laptop display getting white stripes and the X server hanging after
hours of inactivity. Did you reproduce this problem recently? With
Xorg/Etch? With latest xserver-xorg-core in unstable? If not, I will
close this bug in the next weeks.

Thanks,
Brice

 challenge/response password authentication succeeded
 Other no:
 c411b:~# wbinfo -a LANGROUP\\lmguest%

 error code was NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS (0xc05e)

Hmmm, even though the error message seems to be the same, I wonder
whether this bug is similar to #425680 (and then upstream bug #4637 as
described in https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4637)

 What does wbinfo -t output?

Hi,
  Here you have

c411b:~# wbinfo -t

I didn't experience that particular bug lately. I guess it's fine to close it.

Bug#426362: w3mman2html.cgi eats section headings

Package: w3m
Version: 0.5.1-5.1

w3mman2html.cgi drops section headerings. A frequent example is the
SEE ALSO section; e.g., view the manpage for ls(1) with the man
command and notice that the SEE ALSO heading is there. Then view the
same manpage with w3mman2html.cgi and notice that the heading is absent.

The following works around the problem; I hope that it will help
in developing a proper fix:

Bug#426364: xterm dies on popup-menu() action

2007-05-28 Thread Miciah Dashiel Butler Masters
Package: xterm
Version: 225-1

Using the mouse is cumbersome, so I added these to my X resource
database:

XTerm*vt100.translations: #override \n\
CtrlKeyF1:popup-menu(mainMenu) \n\
CtrlKeyF2:popup-menu(vtMenu) \n\
CtrlKeyF3:popup-menu(fontMenu) \n\
CtrlKeyF4:popup-menu(tekMenu)

When I try to use one of the first three of these actions, XTerm
dies:

Major opcode of failed request: 38 (X_QueryPointer)
Resource id in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 344
Current serial number in output stream: 344

With the fourth, it segfaults. Below is a backtrace. I don't have
debugging symbols installed (I see no xterm-dbg package), but if it
would be helpful, I'm willing to go to some effort to get you a better
backtrace.

When I try to use upper(), lower(), or ILIKE on UNICODE databases results
are incorrect. For example:

 upper | lower

And now the same thing on database with LATIN2 encoding (here we have correct
results):

I have the same problem when using psql command line utility, and pgadmin3 and

Bug#409531: nbd-server: timeout option not very useful

2007-05-28 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

According to
URL:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=819235group_id=13229atid=113229

and the tcp(7) manual page, the nbd server should disconnect the
connection after 2 hours 11 minutes if the client fail to respond to
tcp keepalive requests. The keepalive feature was implemented in
2003, and is present in the Debian package.

Is the keepalive feature not working as it should? I guess the
timeout should be removed if it isn't working, and we should get the
keepalive feature working instead.

Happy hacking,

Somehow this causes default ipv4 settings defined in /etc/sysctl.conf to

In my /etc/sysctl.conf I have:
net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter=1

I don't think it's the same bug. Those are memory leaks in menu code
(see #376177).

On the output above, it's menu plugin which is leaking, not panel
itself. If the panel itself has correct memory usage I think we should
close this bug and continue on the other bug. (but there's nothing we
can really do, it's not that easy to detect where exactly is the memory
leak).

Bug#360538: Logging into Gnome session exits immediately

2007-05-28 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

About a year ago, you reported (or replied to) a bug in the Debian BTS
regarding logging into Gnome exiting immediately. Did any of you guys
reproduce this problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? With latest
xserver-xorg-core and drivers? If not, I will close this bug in the next
weeks.

Thanks,

Bug#423882: kicad: Broken export from 3D Viewer

2007-05-28 Thread Richard Burton

this bug is fixed upstream in version 2007-05-25.

I built and packaged this version yesterday and it still had the problem for
me. Perhaps it is caused by wxWidgets 2.6, the binary release must be built
against it (because it not longer builds against 2.6 withotu a couple of
minor patches). If I can prove that using 2.8 will fix it I'll make sure
this bug is marked as blocked by a suitable wx bug, which might motivate
them to get 2.8 into debian.

I hope that we'll actually get this version uploaded soon, but I'm not a DD
so I can't do it myself I have to wait for my co-maintainer (who also isn't
a DD) to get a DD to upload it for us.

Richard.

At first, I was not able to generate some source, I did it, then I
have other problems when trying to build the package. I'm still
working on it but don't have much time at the moment.

I'll try some more, then, I'll commit my changes and send a report to the bug.

Bug#426367: RM: printtool, obsolete

2007-05-28 Thread A Mennucc
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

hi

I am the mantainer of 'printtool'.

I think that 'printtool' has outlived its usefullness: its database
of printers (that is actually contained in the package
'printfilters-ppd', for some strange reason) is outdated;
and upstream is dead since 2001.

I tried to ping in d-devel, at
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/05/msg00965.html
and it seems wise not keeping 'printtool' around.

So I ask for its removal from 'testing' and 'unstable'.

From drivers/hwmon/Kconfig it seems the driver is only for 32bit
 PowerMacs.

Could it be enabled for 32bit powermacs. Or even only for powerbooks and
macbooks pro, a I think there is no ams on desktop machines (maybe on
 ibook and macbook too).

There's no Linux kernel officially compiled for Debian that is targeted
at powerbooks only.

Macbooks (pro or not) does not use the ams driver. Instead, I believe
they use the applesmc driver available from http://www.mactel-linux.org/
(some of it adopted officially in 2.6.21 but not yet the applesmc
driver, it seems).

Bug#426369: thunar: Whit LANG=eu_ES don't show the file's date

2007-05-28 Thread Martintxo
Package: thunar
Version: 0.8.0-3
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

Hello:

I'm have a Debian/Etch environment instaled from the stable release time. In
the last days I have playing with xfce4 (the default packages from Etch). In
the first time I noticed that in thunar I can't see the file's dates (no last
modification date, neither last acces date) that are more aged than one week.
I only can see the dates that are from the last week (I can see: monday,
thusday but in basque languaje :-D).

For other rasons (for see how the new thunar manages removable devices), I
compiled and instaled thunar_0.8.0-3 and libexo-0.3-0_0.3.2-4 (among others)
from the SID repositories. But the problem continues, is the same.

But I can see that, if I kill all of the 'thunar --daemon' instancies, and
later execs 'export LANG=es_ES thunar --daemon' in a xterm, when I start
a new thunar from the desktop icons, thunar have the correct dates in
spanish (the week name for the files changed in the week, and the full date
(28/05/07 for examp.) for the aged ones). The same occurs when I start it
with 'export LANG=C thunar --daemon' (in english now).

So the problem may be related to the basque localization, I thinks.

Thats all. The problem is not serious in general, but is s molest for me.

Thanks in advance. Greetings. Martintxo.

I tried yesterday 10 hours to reproduce the problem on my laptop (intel

If you can reproduce the problem, try running powetop in valgrind to
pinpoint it. You can run it like this to not mess up the output:

   valgrind --log-file=/tmp/powertoplog powertop

valgrind work best if powertop is compiled with debug information
included (-g) and not stripped, but it might give some clues about the
problem even without debug information in the binary.

Yes, simply launch evolution through a keybinding defined in

Evolution PGP window appears, not seahorse-agent window.

This is because evolution because gnome-settings-deamon is started by dbus,
which doesn't have the env stuff as it's started before gnome-session. Thus
when gnome-settings-daemon starts evolution, it also misses the env variables.

forwarded 397975 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7201
tags 397975 + upstream
thanks

I didn't know if I should set the forwarded and/or patch tag, since I'm
 not a kernel team member...

I'm not either, but it is allowed. I'm not sure if the kernel team will
want to apply the patch or just wait until this gets included with a next
upstream release.

It looks like the patch has not yet been accepted upstream, or at least
it's not yet been included for 2.6.22-rc3. Therefore not setting the
patch tag.

Bug#426370: Source package contains non-free IETF RFC/I-D

2007-05-28 Thread Simon Josefsson
Severity: serious
Package: cl-portable-aserve
Version: 1.2.42+cvs.2007.02.25-dfsg-2
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: nonfree-doc rfc

Hi!

This source package contains the following files from the IETF under
non-free license terms:

  cl-portable-aserve-1.2.42+cvs.2007.02.25-dfsg.orig/aserve/doc/rfc2396.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package
   version name.

3. Move the package to non-free.

General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal
or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in
source packages.

Thanks,
Simon

Bug#426371: upgrades etch system to sid, breaks entire installation

2007-05-28 Thread Steinar H. Gunderson
Package: update-manager
Version: 0.42.2ubuntu22-11
Severity: critical

Hi,

My mother (who runs a pristine Etch desktop) complained today that her
machine was suddenly getting slow. After a restart, the X server refused
to run.

A bit of investigation over ssh showed that for a while, her machine was
not running Etch at all, but sid -- she's upgrading via update-manager
whenever it tells her to, and judging from the dpkg logs (doesn't
update-manager have any logs on its own?) it's been happily upgrading
her system to recent sid for a while.

Now, here's the interesting part: /etc/apt/sources.list does not contain
anything about unstable, nor sid. Nor does any apt package lists I've
been able to find, nor the software-properties applet. Yet, there were
hundreds of packages that needed manual downgrading, and dpkg.log does
indeed show upgrading from one sid version of xserver-xorg to another as
late as today.

For the time being, I've asked her to ignore update-manager, but I don't
think this is an acceptable sitution in etch. :-)

Bug#347167: Bug#344110: xserver locks up and uses almost all cpu (99%)

Hi,

Brice,

About a year ago, you reported (or replied to) a bug in the Debian BTS
regarding the X server using almost all CPU. Did any of you guys
reproduce this problem recently with a *free* driver? With Xorg/Etch?
With latest xserver-xorg-core in unstable? If not, I will close this bug
in the next weeks.

Presently works on my machine...

Thanks,
Brice

Bug#426372: education-geography: more suggests

2007-05-28 Thread Hamish
Package: education-geography
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

it would be nice if the education-geography could point to other nice geography
packages like qgis and gmt.

The DebianGIS Team's wiki points to other interesting packages too*, but I feel
QGIS is of higest interest for DebEdu users.
