Bug#432280: bash-like command interface locks up typing long lines?
On Mon, Jul 09, 2007 at 03:28:42PM +1000, Trent Buck wrote: I could enter linux, initrd and boot commands and succeeded in booting (yay for tab completion!). However I noticed that typing a line longer wider than the screen, e.g. linux (hd0,1)/vmlinuz-2.6.21-2-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/Etch-root ro video=radeonfb:1600x1200 caused the system to stop updating the screen. I couldn't see anything I typed appearing, so I tried blindly finishing the command and pressing Enter. Nothing appeared to happen so after a couple of seconds [...] I rebooted again, and I cannot reproduce this behaviour. When typing long lines, this time they continued onto the next line as in an xterm running bash. -- Trent Buck signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#432281: SIGABRT when using limit with ~d after installing.
Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.5.3-1 Severity: normal I get the following error often (but not consistently) in aptitude when using the `l' binding to limit list to a pattern. I think it happens after I type ~d, but it might be after typing any letter. I also think it's happening only after I've installed a package -- if I just start aptitude and immediately limit, it doesn't ever seem to SIGABRT. | Enter the new package tree limit: ~dxephyrterminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range' | what(): basic_string::insert | Ouch! Bug#432288: aptitude: german man page is outdated and thus fuzzy - shouldn't get installed
Quoting Gerfried Fuchs ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.5.4-1 Severity: normal Hi! The German translation of the manpage is outdated. With po files the handling of outdated data is simple: It gets marked fuzzy and not installed into the mo files, thus people get the English originial in that cases. The same should happen with manual pages, too. Outdated manual pages aren't that immensly helpful, and I hope the translators get notified about the updates. Especially since aptitude now spits out something about safe-upgrade but that isn't covered at all in the German language manual page. This is very confusing to the end users. Thanks in advance for either gettting the manual page updated or removing it to not even more confuse the users. Actually, it's just a matter of switching to PO for the german documentation of aptitude..:-) This has already been done for Japanese and French so, if someone volunteers for reviewing/updating a huge 1400-strings PO file, that could be done..:-) Hint: our po4a-wizard, Nicolas François can certainly switch the current german translation pf aptitude XML files to po4a...:-) signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#429031: libtemplate-perl: The XML-Plugins seem to be missing?
Hello Dominic Thanks for your reply. I'm not the maintainer of libtemplate-perl itself, but I did manage the transition to a new upstream which split out some plugins (2.14a), . As no Debian package used the XML plugins I did not package them separately. If this is an issue and you need this plugins back let me know and I will package them. I think those additional libraries are very helpful in a lot of ways, so I would love to see them again in a debian package. Thanks a lot for your work! Thanks in advance for either gettting the manual page updated or removing it to not even more confuse the users. Bug#432291: decompressing a zip file of small files with total amount of data bigger than /tmp partition fails
Package: mc Version: 1:4.6.1-7 Severity: normal When decompressing a zip archive it seems like mc decompresses the files first to /tmp and then copies them to the appropriate location. But after it has been copied to the appropriate location the file in /tmp won't be deleted before the whole decompression process ended. When decompressing archives of several GB (bigger than my tmp partition) this leads to the problem that mc is unable to decompress the archive even all the single files would fit into /tmp without any problems. When the /tmp partition is full mc stops reacting and after some time it displays a incomplete file received-message. Bug#431915: Not that easy
It's not quite that easy. The libvisual projectm visualization depends on libprojectm which is not part of Debian and even if it were, we'd have to hack up the libvisual-plugins package even more to add libvisual-projectm to it. It would make more sense to wait for the Ubuntu guys to get libprojectm libvisual-projectm into their repositories. Alternatively someone could take their attempted source packaging and fix/tidy it up and import it into Debian. :) libprojectm http://revu.tauware.de/details.py?upid=5446 libvisual-projectm (depends on libprojectm) http://revu.tauware.de/details.py?upid=5447 Maybe once libvisual-projectm is in Debian we could add a recommend on it to libvisual-plugins. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Bug#402974: additional info
could it be that the bug is rather fixed because you increase the number of characters cut checks for the domain name? You mix in your patch some complex logic to determine stuff with the minor change of setting these characters up to 40. It is a known, but still unfixed bug in Xen upstream that they only cut the first 14 characters, and if your domain has a name like server-nameserver-test, you're out of luck. IMHO a better fix is described in my Xen bugreport for this: http://bugzilla.xensource.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=859 basically, the parseln() function should look like: parseln() { #name=`echo $1 | cut -c0-17` name=`echo $1 | cut -d -f 1` name=${name%% *} #rest=`echo $1 | cut -c18- ` rest=`echo $1 | cut -d -f 2-` read id mem cpu vcpu state tm (echo $rest) } As Xen upstream is too slow in incorporating this fix, it might be a good idea to put it into the debian package (maybe after trying to nag the upstream to get this in soon, which I will do no). I would say a security update is warranted after all. :/ -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#426439: pbbuttonsd: Coexist with Gnome's power and volume daemons
Hello Matthias, Matthias Grimm [2007-07-07 19:01 +0200]: The phenomenon you reported is not a bug of pbbuttonsd. It is a design error of gnome power manager. Well, not exactly. It's just two commonly installed programs which do the same task. Please file a bug there to change gnome-power-manager to a clean client-server architecture. It is already. g-p-m is only the frontend that controls policy, the actual actions are done through hal. In this case gpm could use pbbuttonsd's functionality as a power manager front-end instead of competing with it. I would accept patches in that direction. Hm, that would be a bit weird, since hal works on all platforms, whereas pbbuttonsd only works on powerpc. Hal is becoming (or already is) the de-facto standard for hardware abstraction and control, so I guess pbbuttonsd should rather use hal's backends in the future. Your patch disables some of pbbuttons core functions. How so? It only avoids doing duplicate actions, but if g-p-m is not running, its behaviour does not change. Thanks for the discussion, and have a nice Sunday! Bug#432298: RFH: elvis
Package: wnpp Severity: normal Hello, The editor elvis is a vi clone that has almost (see below) all features that one would nowadays demand of a vi-like editor. However: * the editor has been abandoned upstream since about March 2004. * the package currently has only an incomplete implementation of support for multi-byte characters; (see #392727). * supporting UTF-8 is a good release goal for lenny. If I am not able to solve #392727 I will consider asking for the removal of elvis from lenny. Hence, this request for help from anyone who has converted a text manipulation programme (editor!) from pre-UTF-8 single-byte systems to wide characters. Package: pbuilder Version: 0.170 Severity: normal File: /usr/bin/pdebuild Hello, I've amd64 Debian on my workstation. Using pbuilder I created an environment to build i386 packages using pdebuild. Bug#432017: aptitude: Aptitude forgets about automatically installed status on upgrade.
Hi. I can confirm this bug. I mark packages that are upgradable to be upgraded, when I now quit/restart aptitude or run a package update then all the packages that I set to be upgraded (not those that are just upgradable) lost their automatically flag. Please ask for any information you'd require. Chris. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#402289: using -kernel-kqemu causes kernel panics in guest OS
On Mon, 2007-07-09 at 11:34 +0200, Loïc Minier wrote: On Mon, Apr 16, 2007, Sam Morris wrote: Given that it is not likely that QEMU's patches (which are more extensive in QEMU's CVS trunk) are not likely to be merged upstream into bochs any time soon, I think it's best if a separate bochsbios-qemu source package is introduced, that will build the required BIOS file. Thoughts? Sounds sane; are the QEMU patches distributed with QEMU or separately? In the first case, I think it shouldn't need a new source package, int eh second case perhaps it should, perhaps not. Ah, I forgot about this bug! Anyway, I tried to do this myself but couldn't even get bochsbios to build. Some of the patches didn't even apply to the latest bochs CVS checkout, and no one upstream was able to tell me how to check out the sources that were necessary to reproduce the binary BIOS files that Qemu ships. The result is that Qemu upstream is presumably violating the license of bochs. But due to the lack of any activity on the part of upstream WRT this bug (even documenting the situation in README.Debian would be better than nothing) I lost motivation to actually do anything about it. Which is a shame because it means that Debian users can't use one of Qemu's best features, and so are more likely to fall back to the non-free VMware, or even to switch to a non-broken distribution altogether. :( -- Sam Morris [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Each job is a package rebuilding task. Rebuilding is done by pbuilder (or cowbuilder if you want), or anything else, since everything is customizable via configuration file. It can also send build logs by email, event each log can be sent to a different email address. rebuildd is multi-threaded, so you can run multiple build jobs in parallel. It is also administrable via a telnet interface. A Web interface is also embedded so you can see your jobs queue and watch log file in real-time in your browser. -- Julien Danjou // Λ̊ [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://julien.danjou.info // 9A0D 5FD9 EB42 22F6 8974 C95C A462 B51E C2FE E5CD // Trust me. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

(Sorry for the late reply btw).. The problem isn't SSL, it's connecting to the wrong port! Instead of to the ldaps port (636), it's connecting to the plain ldap port (389).. I actually discovered this by looking at the diffs between the two versions. The offeding changes is: - p = strchr (p, ':'); + p = strchr (++p, ':'); Which actually fixes the bug that it thought an ldap uri always had a port specified. But now it detect that a uri doesn't have and as the non-ldaps port is default, it assumes that the user specified a non-default port (which isn't the case).. It adds a port to the uri given to libldap in the code just below... Woops Any progress on this ? I've basically pointed out what goes wrong where, so it should be just a matter of actually fixing it now :) As it's still breaks my ldap setup, i've set the severity to important.. On Mon, Jul 09, 2007, Aurelien Jarno wrote: Most of the patches are actually merged into bochs CVS. The diff against the bochs bios is in the QEMU sources and is currently 1600 bytes long. The problem is that you have to build it with -DQEMU (or something like that), which is in favor of having two different packages for bochs and QEMU. But we could maybe keep one source package. Ok; perhaps we can manage this patch as a file in the Boch source package and build it in two flavors, one regular and one qemu? Package: kontact Version: 4:3.5.5.dfsg.1-6 Severity: normal According to Kontact's website, Kmail knows how to handle .ical files, including integration between Kmail and KOrganizer. Bug#422777: bug #422777 prematurely closed
* Eldon Koyle [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-07-09 07:35]: Felix, I noticed that your xorg.conf looked a bit unusual for using MergedFB. I have attached mine as an example. Basically, if you are using mergedfb you only define the card once, and you only define one display. If you are not using mergedfb, then set 'MergedFB' to false. If you want the display cloned, you would specify MetaModes the way you have it: 1024x768. If you want to have a larger desktop, specify a MetaMode like 1024x768-1024x768 and specify an orientation (CRT2Position). See the 'radeon' manpage for more information on various options. Interesting. I never really read the docs properly, I just skimmed them [= man radeon] and followed the instructions at [http://ozlabs.org/~jk/docs/mergefb/], which worked just fine. When I have the time, I'll take a look at your xorg.conf [and the man page] and try to get things working. [right now, I have a lot of work to do and really need my second monitor.] - Felix -- Felix C.
