Bug#432280: bash-like command interface locks up typing long lines?

Bug#432281: SIGABRT when using limit with ~d after installing.

2007-07-09 Thread Trent Buck
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.5.3-1
Severity: normal

I get the following error often (but not consistently) in aptitude
when using the `l' binding to limit list to a pattern. I think it
happens after I type ~d, but it might be after typing any letter. I
also think it's happening only after I've installed a package -- if I
just start aptitude and immediately limit, it doesn't ever seem to
SIGABRT.

| Enter the new package tree limit: ~dxephyrterminate called after throwing an
instance of 'std::out_of_range'
| what():  basic_string::insert
| Ouch! Got SIGABRT, dying..
| Aborted
| $

The what() line is preceeded by a bunch of spaces, as is normal from
the unclean death of a curses application; I have elided them in the
above output.

Bug#432287: bashism at line 31 of some file

2007-07-09 Thread Trent Buck
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.2-5
Severity: normal

During dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, the following is printed shortly
after monitor autodetection:

[: 31: ==: unexpected operator

This strongly suggests there is a bashism somewhere; /bin/[ does not
support the == operator and its functional equivalent, =, should be
used or the script should use #!/bin/bash instead of #!/bin/sh.

Please note that this translation was sent also as part of the general
update after the debcofn review process.

I send it separately to double-secure that it is not lost..:-)

I also used this opportunity to convert the file to UTF-8, which I
forgot in the general update. While not mandatory, this is a policy
we're now using in the French team: all updates are used as an
opportunity to convert our PO files to UTF-8.

Hi!

Please update /etc/bash_completion to support the new commands in
aptitude:

aptitude {changelog | full-upgrade | download | forbid-version | hold | install
|keep-all | markauto | purge | reinstall | remove | show | unhold | unmarkauto}
aptitude search
aptitude {why | why-not}

Especially safe-upgrade and full-upgrade, propably you want to support
why/why-not and keep-all keyword, too.

 So long,
Rhonda

Bug#432288: aptitude: german man page is outdated and thus fuzzy - shouldn't get installed

2007-07-09 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Gerfried Fuchs ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 Package: aptitude
 Version: 0.4.5.4-1
 Severity: normal

 Hi!

The German translation of the manpage is outdated. With po files the
handling of outdated data is simple: It gets marked fuzzy and not
installed into the mo files, thus people get the English originial in
 that cases.

The same should happen with manual pages, too. Outdated manual pages
aren't that immensly helpful, and I hope the translators get notified
about the updates. Especially since aptitude now spits out something
about safe-upgrade but that isn't covered at all in the German language
manual page. This is very confusing to the end users.

Thanks in advance for either gettting the manual page updated or
removing it to not even more confuse the users.

Actually, it's just a matter of switching to PO for the german
documentation of aptitude..:-)

This has already been done for Japanese and French so, if someone
volunteers for reviewing/updating a huge 1400-strings PO file, that
could be done..:-)

Hint: our po4a-wizard, Nicolas François can certainly switch the
current german translation pf aptitude XML files to po4a...:-)

Bug#429031: libtemplate-perl: The XML-Plugins seem to be missing?

2007-07-09 Thread Gerhard Siegesmund
Hello Dominic

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not the maintainer of libtemplate-perl itself, but I did manage the
transition to a new upstream which split out some plugins (2.14a), .
As no Debian package used the XML plugins I did not package them
 separately.
If this is an issue and you need this plugins back let me know and I
 will package them.

I think those additional libraries are very helpful in a lot of ways, so
I would love to see them again in a debian package. Thanks a lot for
your work!

Greetings

Bug#432288: aptitude: german man page is outdated and thus fuzzy - shouldn't get installed

2007-07-09 Thread Gerfried Fuchs

 So long,
Rhonda

Package: icedove

When I double click on a PDF attachment, nothing happens.

description=Portable Document Format; nametemplate=%s.pdf
application/x-pdf; /usr/bin/xpdf '%s'; test=test $DISPLAY != ;

So xpdf should be launched.

This strongly suggests there is a bashism somewhere; /bin/[ does not
support the == operator and its functional equivalent, =, should be
used or the script should use #!/bin/bash instead of #!/bin/sh.

It's actually a bug in xresprobe. Merging this bug with the others.

There are some symbols missing from libglib. Is there a debug package?
Anyway I can reproduce this bug. If you want I could forward that
message to a developer. I would rather not want to post it on the list.

There is a similar upstream report

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407968

But it looks like, there it was crashing on every startup.

Thanks

I'm sorry that I couldn't help you, but I'm very glad for having solved

BTW, using riece-alias-alternate-separator may make you happy. When @

Bug#432291: decompressing a zip file of small files with total amount of data bigger than /tmp partition fails

2007-07-09 Thread Ronney Meier
Package: mc
Version: 1:4.6.1-7
Severity: normal

When decompressing a zip archive it seems like mc decompresses the files
first to /tmp and then copies them to the appropriate location.
But after it has been copied to the appropriate location the file
in /tmp won't be deleted before the whole decompression process ended.
When decompressing archives of several GB (bigger than my tmp
partition) this leads to the problem that mc is unable to decompress
the archive even all the single files would fit into /tmp without any
problems.
When the /tmp partition is full mc stops reacting and after some time
it displays a incomplete file received-message. (I get a german
message, so maybe the translation is a bit different).

OK, but could the description be fixed? I've installed a 76 MB *.deb just
to see that I need to install the other one; that's not very convenient.

I have already moved the empheq in the UPSTREAM dist, but since it is
only a README file it will be removed completely.

For the Debian packages we wont do the move because it is too much
hassle moving 1 README file to add replaces etc. Next years TL upstream
will have the fix.

Best wishes

Bug#431915: Not that easy

2007-07-09 Thread DarkMageZ
It's not quite that easy. The libvisual projectm visualization depends
on libprojectm which is not part of Debian and even if it were, we'd
have to hack up the libvisual-plugins package even more to add
libvisual-projectm to it.

It would make more sense to wait for the Ubuntu guys to get libprojectm
libvisual-projectm into their repositories. Alternatively someone
could take their attempted source packaging and fix/tidy it up and
import it into Debian. :)

libprojectm
http://revu.tauware.de/details.py?upid=5446

libvisual-projectm (depends on libprojectm)
http://revu.tauware.de/details.py?upid=5447

Maybe once libvisual-projectm is in Debian we could add a recommend on
it to libvisual-plugins.

Bug#402974: additional info

2007-07-09 Thread Henning Sprang
could it be that the bug is rather fixed because you increase the number
of characters cut checks for the domain name?

You mix in your patch some complex logic to determine stuff with the
minor change of setting these characters up to 40.

It is a known, but still unfixed bug in Xen upstream that they only cut
the first 14 characters, and if your domain has a name like
server-nameserver-test, you're out of luck.

IMHO a better fix is described in my Xen bugreport for this:
http://bugzilla.xensource.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=859
basically, the parseln() function should look like:

parseln()
{
   #name=`echo $1 | cut -c0-17`
   name=`echo $1 | cut -d   -f 1`
   name=${name%% *}
   #rest=`echo $1 | cut -c18- `
   rest=`echo $1 | cut -d   -f 2-`
read id mem cpu vcpu state tm (echo $rest)
}

As Xen upstream is too slow in incorporating this fix, it might be a
good idea to put it into the debian package (maybe after trying to nag
the upstream to get this in soon, which I will do no).

Bug#423322: Maintainership of SWI-Prolog

On Thu, 21 Jun 2007 Chris Lamb [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 Dear all,

I have contacted Gerardo Curiel and he has agreed to let me become a
co-maintainer of the SWI-Prolog package. I am a regular user of this
package and would dearly like to see a well-maintained package inside
 Debian.

Great!

I am in the latter stages of preparing an upload of the latest upstream
version, which should close at least 5 (yes :-/) outstanding bugs.

Any estimation when the package may be available?

Please note my wish list about Prolog Unit Tests:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=20;bug=425580

Here's hoping to a better future of this package.

I will be very much grateful for its up-to-date and complete version.

Best regards

Janusz

P.S. What about merging 423322 and 425580?

What has been the result? DSA 1302 doesn't mention Sarge.

I've just checked, and the implementation of TT_Load_Simple_Glyph() in
freetype 2.1.7 has the same lack of bounds checking that 2.2 does. I would
say a security update is warranted after all. :/

Ok, good to know.

If I can help you in any way please contact me, thank you very much for

I am going to forward the bug upstream, but first I need to be sure it
still occurs with latest Xserver and drivers.

Did/can you try with xserver-xorg-core 1.3 and newport driver 0.2.1
(both are currently in testing and unstable)?

Thanks,

 Yes, libglib2.0-dbg.

There is a similar upstream report

Doesn't look that much like your backtrace though.

There's also a new upstream release of gtkhtml3.14 which fixes a bug

Booting without the noapic parameter works. I'll be happy to send you logs or

Should I further test anything about this noapic issue besides the daily

How do I tell GRUB to load my kernel without the noapic parameter?

You can edit the entry. Press 'e' key and then edit the line of
 kernel to remove the option.

Where do i find the daily images? Do they come in .deb packages for easy
installation? Is it likely that they will corrupt any of my data?

 http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/

Well, if you go throught the installation until before partitioning,
nothing would be change in your system.

The key AE12 (between scharfes s and backspace on a german

A single acute has no use, it is afaik always the wrong

with the apostroph and will accidentally type stuff like can´t instead
of can't. Apostrophe otoh is a frequently used character, especially
as single-quote.

This is also inconsistent with linux-console (de-latin1-nodeadkeys.kmap.gz)

Bug#426439: pbbuttonsd: Coexist with Gnome's power and volume daemons

2007-07-09 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Matthias,

Matthias Grimm [2007-07-07 19:01 +0200]:
The phenomenon you reported is not a bug of pbbuttonsd. It is a
design error of gnome power manager.

Well, not exactly. It's just two commonly installed programs which do
the same task.

Please file a bug there to change gnome-power-manager to a clean
 client-server architecture.

It is already. g-p-m is only the frontend that controls policy, the
actual actions are done through hal.

In this case gpm could use pbbuttonsd's functionality as a
power manager front-end instead of competing with it. I would
 accept patches in that direction.

Hm, that would be a bit weird, since hal works on all platforms,
whereas pbbuttonsd only works on powerpc. Hal is becoming (or already
is) the de-facto standard for hardware abstraction and control, so I
guess pbbuttonsd should rather use hal's backends in the future.

Your patch disables some of pbbuttons core functions.

How so? It only avoids doing duplicate actions, but if g-p-m is not
running, its behaviour does not change.

Thanks for the discussion, and have a nice Sunday!

Martin

Bug#432298: RFH: elvis

2007-07-09 Thread Kapil Hari Paranjape
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hello,

The editor elvis is a vi clone that has almost (see below) all
features that one would nowadays demand of a vi-like editor. It is
also significantly lighter than the popular vim editor.

-rwxr-xr-x root root 451796 2006-10-11 08:13 /usr/bin/elvis
-rwxr-xr-x root root 990256 2007-01-31 23:54 /usr/bin/vim.tiny
-rwxr-xr-x root root 1383816 2007-01-31 23:55 /usr/bin/vim.basic

Note that elvis has syntax highlighting and other features which have
been left out of vim.tiny in order to make the latter lighter so
this measurement does not present all of elvis' advantages over
vim.

However:
* the editor has been abandoned upstream since about March 2004.
* the package currently has only an incomplete implementation
of support for multi-byte characters; (see #392727).
* supporting UTF-8 is a good release goal for lenny. If I am not
able to solve #392727 I will consider asking for the removal of
  elvis from lenny.

Hence, this request for help from anyone who has converted a text
manipulation programme (editor!) from pre-UTF-8 single-byte systems to
wide characters.

Regards,

Kapil.

Oh, I've not looked into the vgabios.diff or any of the other binaries

Most of the patches are actually merged into bochs CVS. The diff against
the bochs bios is in the QEMU sources and is currently 1600 bytes long.

The problem is that you have to build it with -DQEMU (or something like
that), which is in favor of having two different packages for bochs and
QEMU. But we could maybe keep one source package.

Bug#432300: e2fsprogs: fstab with unknown label makes fsck hang

2007-07-09 Thread t
Package: e2fsprogs
Version: 1.40-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I added the following line for a dm-crypt partition to my fstab:
  LABEL=crypt_office /office ext3 defaults 0 0

When I rebooted, the system hung after printing:
  Checking root file system...fsck 1.40 (29-Jun-2007)
Each fsck during the boot process can be interrupted with Ctrl-C, but
the partitions will be mounted read-only.

While fsck.ext3 works perfectly, fsck seems to have a problem with the
dm-crypt filesystem label in fstab. Any fsck call hangs reproducibly
as long as the fstab entry with the label of an unavailable filesystem
is present.

workaround: comment out fstab entries with labels of filesystems
which are not available

Ah, I forgot about this bug! Anyway, I tried to do this myself but
couldn't even get bochsbios to build. Some of the patches didn't even
apply to the latest bochs CVS checkout, and no one upstream was able to
tell me how to check out the sources that were necessary to reproduce
the binary BIOS files that Qemu ships.

The result is that Qemu upstream is presumably violating the license of
bochs. But due to the lack of any activity on the part of upstream WRT
this bug (even documenting the situation in README.Debian would be
better than nothing) I lost motivation to actually do anything about it.
Which is a shame because it means that Debian users can't use one of
Qemu's best features, and so are more likely to fall back to the
non-free VMware, or even to switch to a non-broken distribution
altogether. :(

  Programming Lang: Python
Description : build daemon aiming at rebuilding Debian packages

This software allows you to manage a set of jobs. Each job is a package
rebuilding task. Rebuilding is done by pbuilder (or cowbuilder if you
want), or anything else, since everything is customizable via
 configuration file.

It can also send build logs by email, event each log can be sent to a
 different email address.

rebuildd is multi-threaded, so you can run multiple build jobs in
parallel. It is also administrable via a telnet interface. A Web
interface is also embedded so you can see your jobs queue and watch
log file in real-time in your browser.

Finally found it! (Sorry for the late reply btw).. The problem isn't SSL, it's
connecting to the wrong port! Instead of to the ldaps port (636), it's
connecting to the plain ldap port (389)..

I actually discovered this by looking at the diffs between the two versions.

 The offeding changes is:
   -  p = strchr (p, ':');
   +  p = strchr (++p, ':');

Which actually fixes the bug that it thought an ldap uri always had a port
 specified.

But now it detect that a uri doesn't have and as the non-ldaps port is
 default,
it assumes that the user specified a non-default port (which isn't the case)..
It adds a port to the uri given to libldap in the code just below... Woops

Any progress on this ? I've basically pointed out what goes wrong where, so it
should be just a matter of actually fixing it now :)

As it's still breaks my ldap setup, i've set the severity to important..

Bug#432305: knode: misreports connection refused as no such file or directory

2007-07-09 Thread Marc Haber
Package: knode
Version: 4:3.5.7-1
Severity: normal

When knode tries to connect to an NNTP server that does not accept
connections at the current time, it says no such file or directory.
This is a wrong, misleading error message for the user, while it may
be technically correct (everything is a file).

It also does not say which file it was trying to access which made
debugging just a little more harder.

Bug#402289: using -kernel-kqemu causes kernel panics in guest OS

On Mon, Jul 09, 2007, Aurelien Jarno wrote:
Most of the patches are actually merged into bochs CVS. The diff against

The problem is that you have to build it with -DQEMU (or something like
that), which is in favor of having two different packages for bochs and
QEMU. But we could maybe keep one source package.

Ok; perhaps we can manage this patch as a file in the Boch source
package and build it in two flavors, one regular and one qemu? Another
approach, a bit more heavyweight, would be to provide a bochs-src
package and let qemu ship the patch and build a boch-qemu flavor based
 on this source.

Do you think one of the two is feasible?

When 'network-test' is run in a directory to which the user doesn't have
write permitions, it exits with an error. It happens because 'mktemp'
tries to create a temp file in the working directory (so I think), instead
of $TMP or other which is user writeable.

Cheers,
rjc

Bug#432309: debootstrap should use signed Release files

2007-07-09 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: debootstrap
Version: 1.0.0
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

Most packages in the Debian archive depend/suggest/recommend on
deboostrap an no
t on cdebootstrap. Thus it is somewhat like the default bootstrapping
tool.
It should provide support for signed release files as cdebootstrap
does.
Or it should be replaced by cdebootstrap.

Best wishes,
Chris.

I also updated kernel to latest version:

I can reproduce this error at any time I activate quota.
I run also several fsck´s on / without any success.

Does have anyone any idea?
Or is it no quota problem?

Gruss,
Peter

Bug#432315: kontact: kmail doesn't handle .ics files as it should

2007-07-09 Thread Mind Booster Noori
Package: kontact
Version: 4:3.5.5.dfsg.1-6
Severity: normal

According to Kontact's website, Kmail knows how to handle .ical files,
including integration between Kmail and KOrganizer. Yet, in Debian, when
I recieve an .ical in KMail, it appears as a simple attachment, and I
have to save it to disk, and then going to the KOrganizer tab and import
that .ical file. I'm not marking this as an enhancement because it seems
to me that upstream does that, it simple isn't working on Debian (or, at
least, for me).

Bug#432316: DownInterfaces auto does not correctly determine downed interfaces

2007-07-09 Thread martin f krafft
Package: hibernate
Version: 1.96~pre-svn.r1125-1
Severity: normal

+ /sbin/ifdown cable
/sbin/ifdown: interface cable not configured
+ [ 0 -ne 0 ]
+ NETWORK_DOWNEDIFS=cable

If it fails to bring down cable, it should not list it as downed.
This is undoubtedly a bug in ifupdown, but we ought to work around
it since ifupdown is unlikely to fix this soon.

Bug#422777: bug #422777 prematurely closed

2007-07-09 Thread Felix C. Stegerman
* Eldon Koyle [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-07-09 07:35]:
 Felix,

I noticed that your xorg.conf looked a bit unusual for using
MergedFB. I have attached mine as an example. Basically, if you
are using mergedfb you only define the card once, and you only
define one display. If you are not using mergedfb, then set
'MergedFB' to false. If you want the display cloned, you would
specify MetaModes the way you have it: 1024x768. If you want to
have a larger desktop, specify a MetaMode like 1024x768-1024x768 and
specify an orientation (CRT2Position). See the 'radeon' manpage for
 more information on various options.

Interesting. I never really read the docs properly, I just skimmed
them [= man radeon] and followed the instructions at
[http://ozlabs.org/~jk/docs/mergefb/], which worked just fine.

When I have the time, I'll take a look at your xorg.conf [and the man
page] and try to get things working. [right now, I have a lot of work
to do and really need my second monitor.]

- Felix

Bug#432270: gettext: autopoint depends: cvs needlessly

2007-07-09 Thread Santiago Vila
Can you please at least move cvs to Recommends of gettext and
mention autopoint and it's cvs dependency in the description of
 gettext before closing this bug?

Can the submitter please tell me what problem, exactly, are we trying
to solve by doing that?

2007-07-09 Thread Loïc Minier
Package: debhelper
Version: 5.0.51
Severity: important

Hi,

The maintainer scripts snippets inserted by dh_icons have CRLF
 line-endings instead of unix-style.

(You may credit Daniel Holbach (who was merging dh_icons for Ubuntu)
 for having spotted this.)

   Bye,

Bug#432318: mpeglib: description could use some capitalization

2007-07-09 Thread Peter Eisentraut
Package: mpeglib
Version: 4:3.5.7-2
Severity: minor

The description of this package could use some capitalization. Instead
of:

Description: mp3 and mpeg I audio and video library
mpeglib is a mpeg I and mp3 audio and video library. It supports
mpeg I audio (layers I, II, III), mpeg I video, mpeg I system layer,
 and wav playback.

I'd say

Description: MP3 and MPEG-1 audio and video library
mpeglib is a MPEG-1 and MP3 audio and video library. It supports
 MPEG-1 audio (layers 1, 2, 3), MPEG-1 video, MPEG-1 system layer,
 and WAV playback.
