Bug#436069: ITP: dsdp -- DSDP implements an interior-point method for semidefinite programming.
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Soeren Sonnenburg [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Package name: dsdp Version : 5.8 Upstream Author : Steven J. Benson [EMAIL PROTECTED] and Yinyu Ye [EMAIL PROTECTED] * URL : http://www-unix.mcs.anl.gov/DSDP/ * License : BSD Programming Lang: C Description : DSDP implements an interior-point method for semidefinite programming. The DSDP software is a free open source implementation of an interior-point method for semidefinite programming. It provides primal and dual solutions, exploits low-rank structure and sparsity in the data, and has relatively low memory requirements for an interior-point method. It allows feasible and infeasible starting points and provides approximate certificates of infeasibility when no feasible solution exists. The dual-scaling algorithm implemented in this package has a convergence proof and worst-case polynomial complexity under mild assumptions on the data.Furthermore, the solver offers scalable parallel performance for large problems and a well documented interface. Some of the most popular applications of semidefinite programming and linear matrix inequalities (LMI) are model control, truss topology design, and semidefinite relaxations of combinatorial and global optimization problems. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers stable APT policy: (700, 'stable'), (650, 'testing'), (600, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.23-rc2-sonne (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Please make sure that nsgmls is present and does not produce any error (with the -wno-valid option), and report a bug otherwise. Continuing... I agree that this warning is annoying, and it is also misleading. I intended to get rid of nsgmls, and replace it by an internal parser (e.g. using the Xml module), but it is more complicated than expected, so this warning remained, and the cases where po4a produced broken files were fixed. At least in 0.31-1 bug #280882 is (unfortunately) still present. Since the output is different for 0.29-1 and 0.31-1 I now think of postprocessing the generated file with perl. I will remove the warning, and I will use the following warning in verbose mode only: nsgmls produced some errors. This is usually caused by po4a, which modifies the input and restores it afterwards, causing the input of nsgmls to be invalid. This is usually safe, but you may wish to verify the generated document with nsgmls -wno-valid. Continuing... Fine with me. Looking forward for the fix. Package: balazarbrothers Version: 1.0~rc1-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable (almost) Well, severity may be a litle bot too high, but I really thing the game is not suitable for release with this error. The problem is that I am unable to enter the Pompon forest level series. I reach the Coqueliform field 9 level, unlock the door and jump onto the door titled Towards Pompon forest 1, I get the Start/Player name/Back menu and when I select start, the brothers are standing on the gate Towards Pompon forest 1 , after the locked door. I am able to jump twice, use the rotating platform and try again to enter the gate, but I get again the Start/Player name/Back menu. There is a traceback in the terminal, I hope it could be of some help. I am attaching it for completeness. It ends with: File model.pyx, line 661, in _soya._AnimatedModel.load_material RuntimeError: CalCoreModel_LoadCoreMaterial failed on file /home/jiba/src/balazar_brothers/images/fruit.png.xrf: File not found I hope this helps track down the problem. Bug#417932: nmudiff: Includes full diff instead of interdiff when preparing new upstream releases
retitle 417932 running debdiff on .orig.tar.gz and .diff.gz stop On Thu, Apr 05, 2007, Luk Claes wrote: I don't agree, if someone wants to NMU one of my packages or one of the packages I care about (and even as NMUer) I want the changes of the new upstream in the diff that gets attached to the bug log. A possibility would be to split it in two files though? I suppose it depends on the exact package and the way the changes are done; lenghty details follow. I can understand why it's useful to diff the tarball AND the .diff.gz when: - this is a new upstream release - some changes are done directly in the .diff.gz and not via debian/patches and hence might move between the diff and tarball I use debdiff in a number of cases on *.changes or *.deb between uploads of my packages, but I would like to use debdiff when I'm sending patches to the security team (I currently use interdiff), when I'm preparing a NMU (I'm using nmudiff, but often save the file and exit Mutt to check it), and when I'm reviewing packages to sponsor. The reason I've asked for the change is mostly for the last use case where I basically mirror my own way of preparing a new upstream release: I diff the upstream tarballs and do the related packaging changes. When I'm asked to sponsor a new upstream release, I'll typically depack both upstream tarball, diff them manually, then I'll try to diff the two .diff.gz via interdiff or if this fails diff the two unpacked debian/. I understand why some person would find the current behavior interesting, so I retract my initial request and propose an alternate change instead: allow to run debdiff on tarballs and on .diff.gz files. This would save me from unpacking the upstream tarball alone (which often requires wiping an unpacked package tree), and from diffing and interdiffing manually with the proper options. I would then basically adapt my uses to be: debdiff old.orir.tar.gz new.orig.tar.gz debdiff old.diff.gz new.diff.gz While running debdiff on .dsc file will probably not be in my personal interests, I suppose it could simply be the result of concatening the results of the above two commands. I hope I expressed my needs clearly enough and the propsal makes sense. -- Loïc Minier

Bug#436078: glipper: uses binary files for storage causing segv
Package: glipper Version: 0.95.1-1 Severity: important Hi Neil, hi Sven, Glipper uses binary files to store both history and preferences. The fields are just dumped from memory to disk, without any endianess conversion, nor with fixed field widths, it uses the system's integer size (size_t) to determine how long the field should be. This means that Glipper's preferences and history files could not be used in a heterogeneous environment with different architectures. We have the home directory on NFS and both x86 and x86_64 machines accessing it. Actually Glipper crashed in memcpy/libc6 caused by this code, on x86_64: | (src/main.c:516) | size_t len; | fread(len, sizeof(size_t), 1, prefFile); | if (!feof(prefFile)) | { | keyComb = malloc(len+1); | fgets(keyComb, len+1, prefFile); As 64 bits were read into `len' instead of the 32 bits saved the malloc and fgets just look funny here and it's nice that it just crashed and did not allocate vast amounts of memory instead. That's the code to read the preferences file. Could it be ported to use another configuration backend, like e.g. gconf? For the history file, which shares the same problem, you could probably fix the issue by inserting a header which specifies integer size, endianess (and version) and either discard its content when the current compile settings differ or do appropriate conversions. Thanks for your time reading so far, it would be nice if this could be fixed upstream in Glipper. Kind regards, Philipp Kern Debian Developer signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#436083: FTS: /usr/lib/games/nexuiz/nexuiz.bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libvorbisfile.so.3: undefined symbol: vorbis_synthesis_idheader
Package: nexuiz Version: 2.3-2 Severity: important nexuiz fails to start. Last line of output is: /usr/lib/games/nexuiz/nexuiz.bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libvorbisfile.so.3: undefined symbol: vorbis_synthesis_idheader Please find the complete output below. I assume this is probably actually a bug in package 'libvorbisfile3', but I'm reporting it against nexuiz as nexuiz triggered this, I am not 100% sure, and would like you to be aware, too. Please feel free to reassign if appropriate. It could also be related to the running rarewares.org kernel. Sorry if that's why. Moritz -- Program output: [EMAIL PROTECTED] nexuiz Console initialized. Hi, I'm not sure I do agree with the closing of the bug: the fact that there is a fixed-in-experimental tag, tells me that the bug should be closed only once the fix has hit unstable. But: I'm too lazy to check if my understanding is correct, and I can always open a new bug if I found out later that my issue is not fixed :-) Cheers, Eric Debian Bug Tracking System wrote: This is an automatic notification regarding your Bug report #360879: xserver-xorg: Xorg's radeon driver does not seem to support DVI on docking station, which was filed against the xserver-xorg-video-ati package. Exactly, thanks Justin. Also, what is the AUTOREMOVE fuction you are talking about? Hmm this I can't answer.. I think maybe he means dpkg deconfigure action? It is the new apt feature of removing packages installed automatically but no longer in use (a-la aptitude). The test is for spotting cronjobs depending on one of their deps to be available (e.g. #436025). Sorry if that wasn't clear enough. Thanks for your answers, I learned a lot today. The crontab will be fixed by adding a test for the existence of /var/www/emboss-explorer/output. Have a nice day, -- Charles

Getting this fixed in etch will require the stable release team to accept a log4cpp update. I'm not sure what our chances are there, but I can propose applying just the patch that I sent separately and see what they say. I'm a little confused about the status of bug #434645. As far as I can see it's not a bug in bug in libapache2-mod-shib, and the problem is in liblog4cpp4 (#432729) But the bug is marked etch, meaning that only the version in etch has the problem, which I think just isn't right. I think the etch tag is wrong and should be removed. This looks like a bug you just want to keep around until #432729 is fixed. I also have to wonder why #432729 is just set to important, since it breaks other packages. Kurt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Once you logged in X blindly as above, you should try: 1) take another machine and log on the first one through ssh 2) enter DISPLAY=:0 xrandr to see the available mode and currently used one (please send the output) 3) change to another mode with something like DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --output LVDS --mode 800x600 (assuming you want to change to 800x600 on the LVDS, i.e. the internal panel of a laptop). Bug#436093: Please decide on the ownership of the developers reference
Package: tech-ctte Hi, I started to take care of the developers reference in September 2004, and have committed changes and uploaded the package regularly since then, please see http://cvs.debian.org/ddp/manuals.sgml/developers-reference/debian/changelog?rev=1.251root=debian-docview=log I asked other people to not commit directly to the cvs, but to send patches in to allow other people to review their proposal, so that we end in high quality. However, Raphael Hertzog decided to ignore this request, and continues to commit changes directly, and now even hijacked the package by adding himself as uploader without even considering to speak with me beforehand. So I want to have a decision based on 6.1.2 of the constitution whether I'm currently the lead maintainer of the developers reference or not. Unfortunately not. If you Exclude a directory, then Box Backup will never scan it or its subdirectories, and will never make it down the tree to /home/andreas/chroot/sid/home/andreas which should be backed up. Ah ok. I assumed something like this. Perhaps the comments in the generated bbackupd.conf should be improved then to be more clear on this. It can be terrible if one learns the hard way, that the backup system is not backing up all the files you was thinking it would. :) At the moment, the workarounds are to either (1) create a new location, or (2) exclude all files and directories under the excluded directory, except the ones on the path to the AlwaysIncluded directory, like so: ExcludeFilesRegex = /home/andreas/chroot/.* ExcludeDirsRegex = /home/andreas/chroot/.* AlwaysIncludeDir = /home/andreas/chroot/sid AlwaysIncludeDir = /home/andreas/chroot/sid/home AlwaysIncludeDir = /home/andreas/chroot/sid/home/andreas AlwaysIncludeFilesRegex = /home/andreas/chroot/sid/home/andreas/.* AlwaysIncludeDirsRegex = /home/andreas/chroot/sid/home/andreas/.* I'm sorry that this is not very convenient. I would like to change the include/exclude logic in a subsequent release to make it easier to specify configurations like yours. I have several directives like this in my config. Since they are all subdirectories of 'home' i don't want to create different locations for each of them. Using (2) would render the config file more complicated and error-prone. So we'd need another directive like SkipDir(sRegex) to completely exclude descending into a directory and any possibility of files inside it being backed up. You need to rebuild at least python-gnome2, xulrunner* (and esp. python-xpcom, and that needs a change in debian/rules), python-gnome2-extras, maybe python-boost* and more. What if boost_python is built with Python 2.4, like all other packages? -- Pelle -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Line 1 of Setup.lhs is: #!/usr/bin/env runhaskell I'm guessing that runhaskell is broken on some GHC platforms. Shouldn't it compile the program to a temporary location on the platforms that don't support ghci? I can't reproduce this problem (on amd64) in either stable or unstable. I also have to wonder which versions of ghc6 you think this bug applies to, it currently doesn't have any version information. Because I cannot take enough time to catching up anthy's release and because no one take over or become a co-maintainer of this package in [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] The package description is: Anthy is a Japanese input method working on X11 and emacs. It converts Hiragana text to Kana Kanji mixed text. It is implemented as a library and stores user's private information into their own home directory. Bug#436093: Please decide on the ownership of the developers reference
On Sun, Aug 05, 2007, Andreas Barth wrote: I started to take care of the developers reference in September 2004, and have committed changes and uploaded the package regularly since then, please see http://cvs.debian.org/ddp/manuals.sgml/developers-reference/debian/changelog?rev=1.251root=debian-docview=log I asked other people to not commit directly to the cvs, but to send patches in to allow other people to review their proposal, so that we end in high quality. Could we try to first exhaust other means of consensus reaching before summoning the tech-ctte with this? You know I am uncomfortable with the concept of package ownership, and the devref is no exception. I therefore suggest that you split the two issues at hands here, which are: 1. Raphaël committing changes directly to the CVS 2. Raphaël adding himself to the Uploaders: field About [1], directly committing changes seems the most reasonable way to manage such a project. Everything can be discussed and reverted as if it was first sent to a mailing-list. The difference is dynamism: if one assumes that the average contribution is positive, the repository is constantly and sooner in a better state. You always end in high quality anyway, since it is the uploads that determine the state of the devref, not the repository. If there are issues with the quality of a user's contribution, then this is a problem for the whole team and should be discussed within the team. It is not a problem of leadership IMHO. As for Raphaël adding himself to the Uploaders: field, I have no particular opinion about it. I suggest discussing it within the team, too, and either reverting the change, or reaching a common agreement about upload rules (which I would obviously prefer). Regards, -- Sam.
