This is an automatic notification regarding your Bug report
which was filed against the linux-image-2.6.22-2-amd64 package:

I disagree with this assessment. It may not be a kernel bug, but it is a bug
which makes my system unbootable. If you are sure it is not a kernel bug, then
you should reassign the bug to the offending party.

Of course I know about disk labels, but Debian doesn't seem to be using them.
The point is not whether I could fix my system, but why it is broken in the
first place. Furthermore, I am not convinced that the kernel never has
guaranteed device ordering. This may be true today, now that we have udev, but
it would have broken countless systems during the last sixteen years. Oh, and
incidentally, this has never happened to me before, and I have been using Linux
for fifteen and a half of these sixteen years.

I also object to the dismissive manner in which this bug report was rejected.
If Debian does not want to receive any bug reports from its users, or in fact
wishes to reduce its user base, then this is the correct way to continue.
Otherwise it is not.

Regards

Michael Burschik

/usr/bin/X is not the X server but the Xwrapper, which might explain the

to attach gdb to the X server.

Ah! I was confused by the output of ps aux, which says /usr/bin/X. I will

There is no file named .conkyrc in my home directory. Also, there is no
 conky config files in /etc/.
 Maybe this is the problem?

This should not be a problem. There is a default configuration
which is automatically set in the absence of a config file. However,
I am mystified since this default configuration does not include any
tail configuration.

But anyway, error message could've been more helpful.

There could have been some punctuation between tail and logfile
but the error message is reasonably accurate. It says that the tail
command to conky is trying to tail a file (logfile) that does not
exist or you do not have permissions to read it.

Perhaps you could run strace -o /tmp/conky.strace conky and send
the output to the bug list. So far the bug continues to be
unreproducible.

Kapil.

Bug#443269: schedutils: Patch to fix problems with ionice command execution

2007-09-20 Thread Zygo Blaxell
Package: schedutils
Version: 1.5.0-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

I have a patch which fixes some problems when ionice is asked to execute
a command:

1. When execvp'ing the command, check that the execvp actually succeeds
(actually it doesn't check, it just assumes that if execvp returns then
the exec must have failed). If the execvp fails, report the errno value
and exit with a non-zero exit status. The old code would simply exit with
successful status if asked to execute a command that did not exist or
otherwise failed to start executing, which wreaks all kinds of havoc in
shell scripts.

2. Before exec, do setuid(getuid()), dropping privileges if ionice
happens to be setuid. Also report errors while attempting to do this,
and exit without executing anything if the setuid call fails.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to make ionice setuid by default (or
at all), but unfortunately the kernel interface seems to insist on root
privileges even if you want to select a lower I/O priority, so I find it
quite helpful to have a setuid binary of ionice around.

Bug#443270: lirc: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-09-20 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: lirc
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Thursday, September 06, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for lirc.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading lirc with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Sunday, September 23, 2007, when
I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Sunday, October 14, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around DAY25, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Not required. Sorry. My error. I managed to locate the bug.

The problem is that conky 1.4.4 is using the configuration
tail /var/log/Xorg.0.log 3 30
by default when there is no configuration file.

This seems to have been fixed in the newer version 1.4.7 which should

I didn't hit this problem on a fresh lenny install yesterday. Maybe that

I guess you might want to either tag it unreproducible, and wait for

Bug#443271: sympa: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2007-09-20 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: sympa
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
--languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
Language-Team field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Bug#443115: seahorse-agent should start after gpg-agent and ssh-agent, and not start if both available

  seahorse-agent currently starts in Xsession.d at 60. gpg-agent and
ssh-agent start at 90. seahorse-agent should start after 90, and not
start with both gpg-agent and ssh-agent already available. I have
gpg-agent installed and I don't want seahorse-agent replacing it; same
  with ssh-agent.

Doesn't seahorse start after gpg-agent then? IIRC the stuff from
Xsession.d starts from the highest to the lowest number. (see dbus which
has a higher number than seahorse but starts first)

What you want is probably seahorse before gpg-agent which is impossible
(as seahorse needs dbus). I really don't know what to do about this bug,
you're not the first who tells me something like that.

Actually, no, I really do want seahorse to start after gpg-agent and
ssh-agent. I forgot that while the scripts in Xsession.d run from
lowest to highest, the ones like gpg-agent and ssh-agent prefix
themselves to $STARTUP and thus run from highest to lowest; thus,
seahorse-agent really does start after gpg-agent and ssh-agent.

That leaves the other half of this bug: I want seahorse-agent to not
start at all if it can see from the environment that the session
already has gpg-agent and ssh-agent running.

Which then will probably yield to a bug like your's, only the other way
around.

Users that want seahorse can only use it then when removing gpg-agent
and ssh-agent.

Line #35 is therefore vague, any user at first glance suggests any

isn't an expert at hdparm.

Yet lines #32-33 clearly imply that 'linhdd' can be run as by regular
users, with the exception that it won't partition or format for anyone
but 'root'. Otherwise that And lastly,... sentence is needless.

If the program is 'root' only, having it output a cryptic internal
error when run by regular users is less useful than something like:

linHDD: Error, only root can run linHDD.

Maybe it doesn't belong in the user directory '/usr/bin'; it might
belong in '/sbin' or some place appropriate to root.

Compare it to 'hdparm' which if run as a non-root user gives:

# path free command.
% hdparm -i /dev/hda
bash: hdparm: command not found

# with path
% /sbin/hdparm -i /dev/hda
/dev/hda: Permission denied

Summing up: if the program is 'root' only, then the man page has a
two vague and misleading passages that should be corrected, and the non-root
error message needs improvement, and maybe the binary itself should be
moved to an appropriate 'sbin' directory.

Bug#442117: the package descriptions are still not really descriptive

Their explanation is attached below. If this explanation is
unsatisfactory and you have not received a better one in a separate
message then please contact John Goerzen [EMAIL PROTECTED] by replying
 to this email.

It would be nice if you could elaborate how you call that a fix. Yes,
the mentioned empty paragraph doesn't exist anymore - but the new
description isn't helpful neither. The long description is expected to
contain of at least full sentences, which it doesn't. It says it lets
one keep an eye on the status, where it doesn't explain in what way, and
what kind of tray is meant, like I asked in my original message...

Furthermore you doesn't seem to have touched the bacula-client
description at all. Please notice that the package description is the
thing that should give the user all needed informations about wether he
wants to install the package at all, and this isn't giving out any.

Please read up about helpful hints on how to write proper package
descriptions in the developer's reference[1].

Thanks for taking care of this helpful piece of software, btw.

 You can build-depend upon libdb-dev (= 4.6.19-1), though I'm not sure
that's the recommendation you're looking for.

Berkeley DB upgrades change the API (in addition to the ABI), so
explicitly versioned dependencies (libdb4.6-dev et al.) are better.

If it doesn't start, this is probably a duplicate of bug 434266. You

Dear Installer team,

In order to install a dual boot on a machine with a new drive, I first
re-installed and upgraded OS X, leaving free space before the system
partition in order to install Linux. However, the installer did not
detect the OS X (journalled, case-sensitive) partition. Etch's installer
did not manage either. Is the disk too big? (500 Go)

As a side problems, I had the fans running at full speed with the daily
build (not with Etch).

Apart from this, I have the two following comments :
 - The installer assumes that the keyboard will be a mac one, and does
not give opportunity to declare another one. However, I am using a
   Lenovo keyboard with american layout.
 - Very often I was asked by the installer if I want to load the PCMCIA
modules, and after saying no I was always asked or which options to
   passe to the modules.

Many thanks for your work. I hope you or somebody from the
debian-powerpc list (CCed) can help me to install the dual boot (even at
full fan speed), as I need it at work.

Have a nice day,

Bug#443255: seahorse: gnome_vfs_unescape_string() implicitly converted to pointer

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
 For more information, see [2].

It looks like this package is missing the prototype for
gnome_vfs_unescape_string - not only that, but its also only passing
one argument where two are required. I've made a guess at what was
intended for the second argument based on the comments for this
 function in the header file.

Thanks, this bug is already fixed upstream and will be in Debian soonish
with the next release.

Bug#443184: am-utils: Fails to mount drives after approximately five minutes

Never seen anything like that. Curious. Is /a your intercept point,
or is it where you want am-utils to actually mount things? (which
is /amd by default).

There's probably lots of useful information that I've omitted, but
I can

provide any that you need.

Please send your complete /etc/default/am-utils, your complete /etc/
am-utils/amd.conf, and your map.

Some points:

- the /etc/default/am-utils file is not listed at
  http://packages.debian.org/etch/am-utils/i386/filelist, but it does
appear to be part of the package

That's perfectly OK.  It isn't supplied with the package tarball;
it's created by the postinst script after the package has been
unpacked. It's maintained after that by the ucf program (see the
second paragraph of the DESCRIPTION section of the ucf manpage)

- in /etc/default/am-utils, we have ADIR=/a.

And where do you later use this? None of the scripts I maintain in
Debian's package of am-utils know anything about ADIR.

Without seeing your configuration files, there's not going to be much
I can do.

It looks like your master map comes from NIS, and is called amd-v.
Can you please send me that as well? If you're worried about making
that information publically available, feel free to send it to me
personally, and not to the BTS.

OK. How did you check that the initramfs was not updated? In that case

Hi,

On August 21, upstream released a new minor version of neon (0.27 - updated to
0.27.1 on September 16). A couple of days after that a new version of cadaver
has been released as well which requires libneon 0.27.

Please update the neon packages in Debian. As there is still no stable API it
imho makes sense to package the new version as neon27 source package.

I'd be glad to help out.

Bug#443279: dbconfig-common: does not preseed dbc_dbserver on config migration and asks too much

2007-09-20 Thread Michael Ablassmeier
Package: dbconfig-common
Version: 1.8.36
Severity: normal

hi sean,

we have been migrating our packages to use dbconfig-common for the frontend
code aswell, which means we have to migrate our old configuration file creation
to the handling with dbconfig-common.

Our packages .config looks like:

  if [ -f /usr/share/dbconfig-common/dpkg/frontend.config ]; then
  dbc_first_version=1:1.4.2-3
  dbc_load_include=php:/etc/zabbix/dbconfig.php
  dbc_load_include_args=-tDB_TYPE -sDB_SERVER -dDB_DATABASE -uDB_USER
  -pDB_PASSWORD
  dbc_dbtypes=mysql, pgsql
  dbc_dbuser=zabbix
  dbc_dbname=zabbix
  . /usr/share/dbconfig-common/dpkg/frontend.config
  dbc_go zabbix-frontend-php $@
  fi

and our .postinst:

  dbc_first_version=1:1.4.2-3
  dbc_generate_include=template:/etc/zabbix/dbconfig.php
  dbc_generate_include_owner=root:www-data
  dbc_generate_include_perms=640
  dbc_generate_include_args=-U -o
  template_infile=/usr/share/doc/zabbix-frontend-php/dbconfig.php

  dbc_go zabbix-frontend-php $@

while upgrading zabbix-frontend-php from 1.4.2-2 to 1.4.2-3 dbconfig-common
notices its converting from an old configuration file and starts prompting
several questions:

1) What connection method to use (socket / tcp/ip)
2) What Database server to use.
3) What Database port to use.
4) What Database user to use.

now for the issue:

1) prompting is okey here imho.
2) the value from the old config is not preseeded, and this
question could IMHO also be omitted, as we are loading
this value from our old config file (-sDB_SERVER)
3) prompting is okey here imho.
4) the value from the old config file is preseeded here, so
this question could IMHO also be omitted.

bye,
- michael

This looks like it could be rationalized somewhat:
 Package: exim4
 Depends: debconf (= 0.5) | debconf-2.0, debconf (= 1.4.69) | cdebconf (=
 0.39),

 I would suggest:
 Depends: debconf (= 1.4.69) | debconf-2.0,

Possibly the version for debconf could dropped too as only oldstable
still has that; the version for cdebconf has become completely irrelevant.

Hello,
debconf (= 0.5) | debconf-2.0 is added by debhelper expanding
${misc:Depends}, debconf (= 1.4.69) | cdebconf (= 0.39) is set
manually

  * debian/control: have exim4 depend on debconf (= 1.4.69) | cdebconf
(= 0.39) explicitly to allow usage of debconf error template type.

Fixing this bug currently could only be done by dropping
${misc:Depends}, which I am unhappy to do, since something else that
is useful could could come out of it in the future.

Which is why I am marking this as wontfix and blocking by the
respective bug in debhelper.

that's the recommendation you're looking for.

Berkeley DB upgrades change the API (in addition to the ABI), so
explicitly versioned dependencies (libdb4.6-dev et al.) are better.

So, package maintainers need to be aware which Berkeley DB is
recommended to be used for appropriate dependencies. I have been
informed that it is not always a brilliant idea to use latest Berkeley
DB, right?

I was wrong. It seems the same default configuration

I also noticed the /var/log/Xorg.0.log is (by default) readable by
all on a fresh Debian install. Hence the bug seen by you is unlikely
to be seen by the majority of users.

However, I do agree that the error message should be more informative
if the user has not created a configuration file.

This could perhaps also be fixed by a suitable amendment to the manpage
which can explain that it is best if conky is run with a user-created
configuration file.

No because it's not documented anywhere.

We're not talking about the same version. Indeed, in etch, this
problem is here, but was fixed in unstable just after etch's release.

And, to anticipate the question, no there is no chance that this is

Bug#435102: confirmed here (/dev/rtc timeout)

2007-09-20 Thread Alain Guibert
Hello Ondrej,

On Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 14:50:54 +0200, Ondrej Certik wrote:

 HWCLOCKPARS=--directisa
How about using this by default so that I don't have to make this
 change manually?

The --directisa RTC access method has some drawbacks:

 - It wastes processor cycles by busy-waiting for the clock tick,
instead of sleep-waiting for the update ended interrupt.

 - It is in practice much less accurate in detecting this clock tick, as
soon as the system is not purely idle. Busywaiting for a 2 milliseconds
event, when at HZ=100 several timeslices of 10 ms can be preempted by
other processes, well... this can happen to fail completely ;-). Note
that Bryan Henderson's latest hwclock 2.30 uses memory locking and
realtime priority to minimize this problem.

 - It can be used by root only. And it is dirty (!), because clean
applications are expected to never access the hardware directly, but
thru a device driver.

So people using normal hardware and good kernels with proper RTC
interrupts don't want to use --directisa. Setting it by default would
work everywhere, but with degraded functionality for the majority.
It would be a pity.

I'm not sure what can be done. Perhaps:

 - Make HWCLOCKPARS=--directisa option easyier to find and setup.
Propose it during installation. Set it inside a simple config file,
sourced from /etc/init.d/hwclock.sh. See David's bug report #439593.

 - Enhance detection of interrupt failures, and enhance automatic
fallback methods to detect tick in code. Today only few failure
scenarios are detected, some are detected too late, and the fallback
method (busywait for change of time) seems to be much less accurate than
with --directisa itself (busywait for UIP fall). Testing this fallback
method gave me the tick detected between 8 and 20 ms late, when normal
methods stay in a 10 µs range... That's only 2000 times worse.

 - Check interrupt failure during installation script, and then install
with --directisa option.

But those are only random ideas: I can't test nor discuss this seriously,
because none of my machines have interrupt problems. However I think we
should not just fail, or poorly fallback. We should not require the
impacted users to notice, understand, and fix the problem. Instead, we
should detect and fix it ourselves. If not at runtime, then at install.

Bug#442645: exim4: newer BDB

Berkeley DB upgrades change the API (in addition to the ABI), so
explicitly versioned dependencies (libdb4.6-dev et al.) are better.

So, package maintainers need to be aware which Berkeley DB is
recommended to be used for appropriate dependencies.

Exactly, just like Curl, OpenSSL, GNUTLS, and so on.

I have been informed that it is not always a brilliant idea to use
 latest Berkeley DB, right?

If you use on-disk database environments (grep for DB_ENV to get an
idea if this is the case), you need quite a bit of code to handle
updates properly (and downgrades, of course). If you use just plain
DB objects, it's not very likely that you'll notice any changes.

It'd be nice if that were possible...

Well internally perl implements

  EXPR1; while (EXPR2) BLOCK continue { EXPR3 }

which makes adding a continue block a bit trickier. It does however
suggest your solution, stash your contine expressions after ++$i:

Where is the real problem, that it doesn't work for me without the

Well, definitely /usr/share/doc/util-linux/README.Debian.hwclock

This can be done immediatelly.

Exactly. As I said, detect if hwclock works during install and fix it

But maybe it's easier to fix the real problem, see my question above.

Bug#383441: Please report upstream

2007-09-20 Thread martin f krafft
Okay, so it seems that I resolved the XRandR issues by restarting
fluxbox (see the thread I previously posted). So now I can reproduce
the problem:

Given two 1024x768 screens next to each other, which is a logical
screen of 2048x768 pixels, the splash screen displays in the middle
of that logical screen and thus in between the two monitors:

xwininfo: Window id: 0x1cb win0

  Absolute upper-left X: 784
  Absolute upper-left Y: 204
  Relative upper-left X: 784
  Relative upper-left Y: 204
  Width: 480
  Height: 360
  Depth: 24
  Visual Class: TrueColor
  Border width: 0
  Class: InputOutput
  Colormap: 0x20 (installed)
  Bit Gravity State: NorthWestGravity
  Window Gravity State: NorthWestGravity
  Backing Store State: NotUseful
  Save Under State: no
  Map State: IsViewable
  Override Redirect State: yes
  Corners: +784+204 -784+204 -784-204 +784-204
  -geometry 480x360+784+204

jabref itself then restores the previous geometry, which is should
not.

So there are two things to do:

  1. remove the functionality which stores and restores jabref's
 main window's geometry on shutdown/startup

  2. tell the window manager to place the splash screen in the
middle of the current head, rather than trying to figure out
 dimensions yourself.

Bug#443236: missing dependency on libfcgi-perl

2007-09-20 Thread Brendan O'Dea
On Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 11:16:50PM +0300, Niko Tyni wrote:

Yes, because I wasn't prepared to add a dependency on libfcgi-perl to
perl-modules. This was the reason I split the package out in the first
place.

I figured that in most cases users who wanted FactCGI would know enough
to install libfcgi-perl, and any packages would have a dependency
already... Turns out that there are a handful with only a dep on
libcgi-fast-perl.

I'll re-instate the bloody thing, but move the module to the vendor dir.

Bug#443290: file reports ascii text files as something else

2007-09-20 Thread Ionel Mugurel Ciobica
Package: file
Version: 4.17-5etch2
Severity: normal
Debian Release: 4.0
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash
Kernel: Linux 2.6.22.4
Locale: LANG=ro_RO.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ro_RO.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8)

File command is missbehaving, as it identify plain ascii files as
something else. See example below:

# echo 0 16/09/2004 file.txt ; file file.txt
file.txt: character Computer Graphics Metafile
# echo lectura file.txt ; file file.txt
file.txt: DEC SRC Virtual Paper Lectern file

The behaviour is reproduced by older version as well, and I tend to
belive that it is not Debian related (I have no acces to non-Debian
systems to check this).

Best regards,
Ionel

Bug#443288: midori: segfaults on selecting preferences

2007-09-20 Thread Emanuele Rocca
Hello Helmut,

  $ gdb midori
  ...
  (gdb) run

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Thanks for testing midori.

I've uploaded the new upstream version (0.0.7) to experimental,
adding a -dbg package in order to ease debugging.

It's still in the NEW queue:
http://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html

I'll let you know when (if) it's accepted so that you can check whether
this bug is still present or not.

That looks like a whole lot of locally installed modules. Can you try
again with the ones shipped by Debian? This doesn't happen for me with
the versions of those modules in Debian.

Bug#443291: gnomebaker: can't read CDs - missing dependancy on cdrecord

2007-09-20 Thread Ivan Vucica
Package: gnomebaker
Version: 0.6.0-7
Severity: normal

Hi,

although I'm having problems after having installed the cdrecord package, too,
I see no better solution.

It appears that gnomebaker calls readcd to create an image of the CD before
burning it when Tools-Copy Data CD is selected. This program is included in
Debian package cdrecord, and it appears that gnomebaker does not depend
on this package. It might be good to add cdrecord as a dependancy.

I am aware that wodim is a replacement for cdrecord, however it does not
provide readcd executable -- I checked here:

 Hi,

This package is not compatible with the new xorg packages. :)

Thank you for your report. In what way is it not compatible?

Thanks for your reply. :)

I'm not sure if a recompilation against the new xorg is
required.

But since the new xserver-xorg requires xserver-xorg-video-2
and the xserver-xorg-core conflicts xserver-xorg-video-1,
I can not install the xserver-xorg-video-amd with the new
xorg packages.

Why is the version information lost when reducing libslang?
Is this some problem in libslang, or is it a problem you can fix?

This is the correct behaviour as the version script is missing. It is a
bug in the libslang-pic package to not include them.

Bug#443287: amavisd-new: BDB bugs will stop amavis mail delivery

2007-09-20 Thread Alexander Wirt
Martin Werthmoeller schrieb am Donnerstag, den 20. September 2007:

 Package: amavisd-new
 Version: 1:2.4.2-6.1
 Severity: normal

Berkeley DB often has problems with lockers. This will stop the mail
deliver on systems with amavisd-new enabled. The bug will only appear if
db_enabled is set to a true value, which is the default setting at the
 debian package.

After disabling the berkeley db with

   $enable_db = 0;
   $enable_global_cache = 0;

the errors disappeared. The performance will not decrease appreciably.
Thus I would recommend to disable this settings in the package default.
I don't this that this qualifys as a bug, so I will lower the severity to
wishlist for this bug.

Alex

P.S.: in fact switching off bdb makes amavis significant faster, so I will
think about it. On the other hand is changing the default behaviour of a
server a serious thing where all pros and cons should be calculated
carefully.

Bug#443300: mplayer goes to almost 100% CPU

2007-09-20 Thread Mind Booster Noori
Package: mplayer
Version: 1.0~rc1-16
Severity: normal

Hi there,

When I do:
mplayer -zoom -vf tfields=1,scale=864:691,crop=780:650:50 tv:// -tv
driver=v4l2:input=1

with my tv card, mplayer starts consuming more and more and more CPU...

= Info about the card:

I wonder if this bug is really upstream as it seems, since a friend of
mine told me that he used the same card in his Fedora laptop and doesn't
have such problem. I'll also try to know more info about that (such as
his mplayer version).

Best regards,
Marcos Marado

This was fixed in the version 1:4.0.18.1-8 of shadow (and passwd).
This version is not available on Etch.

In the Etch version, the default behavior, when -g is not specified, is
always to use/create the primary user group with the same name as the
 user.

The 1:4.0.18.1-8 version introduced a -n flag to disable this, and use the
group specified in the configuration file.

Would it be possible to modify this slightly to say that if a GROUP=
line is given in the configuration file then -n is implied and that is
used, otherwise make a new one? It seems to me to be slightly better
behaviour as it, at least to me, easily follows from the actual act of
setting a single, solid group.

The recommended tool for the creation of users in a Debian system is
adduser (useradd is a low level tool).
I would recommend you to use this tool. The USERGROUPS and USERS_GID
variables of /etc/adduser.conf will probably satisfy your needs (not
tested, but it would make sense).

Aye. Just that this change is chucking away around a decades+ worth of
learnt behaviour. The above modification would be a good compromise as
it allows one to set the command for the old behaviour or keep the new.

Hi Karl,
I received the bug report, but I read that you already know the problem
has been fixed in 4.4.1. Normally I should just close this report since
the bug has been fixed, but maybe you opened it for a reason I cannot
actually see.
What do you want that I do with this report?

Bye,

Bug#440095: compiz should enable many plugins by default, at least decoration

2007-09-20 Thread Lapse of Reason
You should also add some information to README.Debian on how to enable
plugins, or at least say that users need to enable the decoration
plugin to get window borders (which I assume most people want).

Thanks.
