Bug#353227: asterisk: Doesn't lock voicemail.conf for update
forwarded 353227 http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=10781 thanks Hi, On behalf of the team, sorry for the very very very late response :-) This problem appears to be more generic since there is a config_text_file_save() function nowdays and I have confirmed that it doesn't use flock(). This would be a bigger problem when using e.g. asterisk-gui that tried to write to the configuration files using the above function. Adding the locks isn't that trivial since this means that it may block indefinitely or fail immediately, none of which is a good thing for this type of application. I've forwarded the bug upstream so we can get their opinion and/or code. Thanks, Faidon -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug report #423669 apparently patched a problem by using a link to a CGI script on our site. We have a system that rates web pages, and as a service for webmasters, we have a little utility, viewer.cgi, which is used to show users how our crawler saw a page. Somebody stuck this into a Debian watchfile because it can be used to read a HTTPS page via HTTP, something they needed. But viewer.cgi does more than that. It's not a transparent proxy. It truncates pages at 1MB, parses the HTML into a tree, converts to Unicode/UTF-8, makes all the links absolute, removes embedded content (Javascript, Flash, etc.), and outputs the result as cleaned up and properly indented HTML. What you get out isn't quite what went in. So this probably isn't what you want. SiteTruth really shouldn't be part of some Debian build procedure. We suggest finding some other way to read HTTPS pages with HTTP. Wrong tool for the job. Thanks. John Nagle SiteTruth http://www.sitetruth.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Ian Campbell NEWS FLASH!! Bug#443274: dual-card setup doesn't work with X 1.4
No it doesn't. Also X process can not be killed with a -9 as well. As you might imagine Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't bring back the console too. Bug#443392: ITP: gitpkg -- helper scripts for maintaining packages with git
On Fri, Sep 21, 2007 at 07:42:52AM +0200, Mike Hommey wrote: On Fri, Sep 21, 2007 at 10:49:26AM +0930, Ron [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: wnpp * Package name: gitpkg Description : helper scripts for maintaining packages with git This packages provides some simple scripts that assist with maintaining Debian packages in git. . gitpkg- creates a source package from tagged revisons. git-debimport - creates a git repository from a set of existing packages. Couldn't that be merged with git-buildpackage ? Well, they are kind of orthogonal, so I don't really see what sense that would make. If you are using the git-buildpackage framework, then you don't really need these scripts -- but you can use gitpkg to create a source package from almost any repo with a half-sane structure, not just ones in some carefully pre-determined form. All you need is source for a valid package in the repo, and knowledge of the tag/branch/commit that you wish to roll the package from. gitpkg will figure out all the rest for itself automagically. You can pluck a package from almost any arbitrarily named point of almost any repo. So if you are using gitpkg, you probably don't need git-buildpackage either. I've split this out as a standalone command after it became apparent that the snippets I'd been putting into makefile targets in various projects to do this could easily be generalised to run as an external agent, maintained in one place for (and instantly added to) all of them. git offers too many degrees of freedom, which different projects might profitably exercise, to put development through the bottleneck of an old-style framework. I think we can, and need to, think differently about this, and this script is an exploration of that. I know I'm not the only one who feels that git-buildpackage is not 'right' for them, and this is my best answer to that problem to date. To point out a couple of concrete problems above and beyond prescribing the repo layout: Looking at the manual page for git-buildpackage, it would appear that you can in fact only build packages from the current HEAD of a branch... Is that really true? If so, it sort of misses the point of keeping all those old package versions in revision control. If you can't go back and perfectly reproduce an old package, then you still need to keep the old packages themselves too... krusty, say it ain't so? My latest problem with tools from the git-buildpackage suite was with git-import-dsc. After discovering, to my horror, than none of the cvs import tools seem to be able to get a cvs-buildpackage repo correctly exported to something usable in git, I decided to forego the detailed history in preference to being able to extract the old packages again with perfect fidelity. I've still got the old repo's I can examine, and it won't be too long before that's mostly all ancient history anyhow ... so I decided to import all my old .debs directly. And was most surprised to learn that git-import-dsc can only import one .deb per repo. That's it. So in the last few hours git-debimport was born to automate importing them all. Its much cruder and less polished that gitpkg, but its also a one-shot tool and you won't keep using it like you might gitpkg. I've had the gitpkg script up for people to poke at on the p.d.p url for a few weeks now, and its been used in anger on a few packages, and used in makefile target form for much longer than that. I've mostly packaged it for my own convenience, but uploaded it to share the love around. I don't profess that its in anything like a final form, but if it provokes some discussion on Better Ways To Do Things, then I'm all for that. If the git-buildpackage maintainer would like to pinch or offer ideas I think that would be great. If other people find it useful or find ways to improve it, then maybe we are on to something. If not, it will become obsoleted by something better and I'll be happy to chalk it up as Something I Don't Need To Do Anymore ... Anyhow, that's about 10x more text than it took to actually implement it. It's already uploaded waiting in NEW and if you can't wait that long, its a single file with built in help that you can grab from my p.d.o space. Have a play with it. Then we can have a constructive discussion about what it is and where it belongs. Cheers, Ron -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? I tried explicitly setting my $PATH to include /usr/sbin, using sudo and running as root and none of these seemed to work. In the end I had to add the /usr/sbin/ prefix to the sendmail command in /usr/share/quilt/mail explicitly. I suspect part of the problem is in /usr/share/quilt/scripts/patchfns where: export PATH=$QUILT_DIR/compat:$PATH this means that the compat stuff will always take precedence, you probably want the comapt bit at the end. The first line ignores all kind events (battery, lid, power, hkey). Or are there acpi event that should trigger logcheck? Thanks! In general, I don't think logcheck should let any acpid messages pass, so this should be okay. Ok. I am missing information about where these filters go, but I'll assume ignore.d.server/acpid. That's right. Also, you might want to have a look at http://wiki.logcheck.org/index.cgi/RuleSubmission for future submissions. Specifically, we don't really want rules that don't cover the whole line and do not end with $. And in between, the filter should be as specific as possible. Well, if I want to have a rule, that is triggered just by the beginning of the log line (e.g. rules 1,2,3,5,6 above) no matter what follows, it would be a bad idea to add .*$ just to have a $ at the end, as this is computationally more expensive (and logcheck uses already enough cpu power). It is a good thing to have rules that are as specific as possible. But they should only be as specific as needed, don't you agree? (or am I missing something here?) The rules above are unspecific (to some extent) because it is their purpose to match to a lot of cases. So, there is really no need to be more specific. If so, many more rules would be necessary (which is again not helpful for logchecks performance). cheers, Hp. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? So build-depending on libdb-dev should mean you wouldn't need to change the b-d ever again unless there's an incompatible API change that isn't handled by the upstream code. Furthermore, it would be possible to switch to a newer version with just a binNMU. Given your transient data description, I doubt there will be any trouble with you always keeping up with what is deemed the current version. Hello, I think so too. However I think we should keep manually updating when necessary There are a couple of reasons why exim should not always automatically use the latest and greatest bdb. exim is in base (Priority: standard). - The newest and latest bdb has not always been of sufficiently high priority itself.[1] - IMHO base should try to limit itself to one version of bdb at a time. There is no big win in exim switching, if e.g. libpam-modules or libsasl2-2 (required by libldap2 which gnupg depends on) does not. - Users sometimes configure exim to pull data from other b-db using software (e.g. DRAC for POP before SMTP) or use libberkeleydb-perl to build databases for exim. Bug#442963: xserver-xorg-input-kbd: Order matters for Ctrl + Alt
Package: xserver-xorg-input-kbd Version: 1:1.2.2-3 Severity: normal I just upgraded to the above version I have the same problem as Javier. All his observations are what I see as well. Removing ctrl:swapcaps from xorg.conf helps, but when I move the position of the control key using GNOME's keyboard layout options (either swap or as an additional ctrl key) the problem resurfaces. My version of xkb-data is 1.0~cvs.20070916-1. Downgrading this to 1.0~cvs.20070721-1 didn't help. Perhaps the bug is in GNOME ? Something useful? Bye OK. Killed the applet. Started mixer_applet2 in terminal and it just runs but does not return. Add applet into panel and it runs fine without any errors. So that's good. However, as soon as kill mixer_applet2 I get the same error back straight away and on next logon. Is mixer_applet2 meant to be running as a daemon or started some other way?? I suspect that might be the issue and maybe the gnome panel applet can't talk to it?? No, it will simply be started by the panel. Is there something about it in ~/.xsession-errors ? Weird that it works after everything is started but breaks on panel startup...

Bug#443274: dual-card setup doesn't work with X 1.4
Aldemir Akpinar wrote: I have tried your unstable package, and it works fabulously. In fact I am using it right now. Good to know! I have also tried the package in experimental but that one gave me a segfault. What I did was, first I upgraded my X to unstable version (7.3). Then I got the experimental package with apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati -t experimental . And I am attaching the log file as well. From the log, it looks like you had the MGA board enabled in xorg.conf. I am afraid this setup cannot work since the new ati driver 6.7.193 uses RandR 1.2 while the mga driver does not, and the server does not seem to appreciate multiple boards in RandR 1.2 so far, and it's not clear it's going to be fixed soon unfortunately. So it'd be good to comment out all MGA related lines in xorg.conf and test with 6.7.193-1 again. That would help us know: * does ati 6.7.193 fixes the problem for your board that 6.6.193 has? (you might need to disable DRI again, not sure) * how does the server behave when mixing RandR 1.2 and non-RandR drivers We could also imagine that you test the new RandR 1.2 MGA driver (1.9.99 in experimental), but you might hate me if I ask for more testing :) And this driver seems pretty young so far, so we'll see that later. thanks, Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#443274: dual-card setup doesn't work with X 1.4
Hi there, Ok I have made some more tests. I have installed xorg packages from unstable. I have also install mga and ati drivers from experimental. What happens is whether I turn off definitions for Mga or not I get a segfault. I am attaching the Xorg.0.log again. In this log file I have executed X with a single head-setup. Let me know if you need more information. I can do some more testing I think. Thanks, -- aldemir - Original Message From: Brice Goglin [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Aldemir Akpinar [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, 21 September, 2007 11:19:06 AM Subject: Re: Bug#443274: dual-card setup doesn't work with X 1.4 Aldemir Akpinar wrote: I have tried your unstable package, and it works fabulously. (you might need to disable DRI again, not sure) * how does the server behave when mixing RandR 1.2 and non-RandR drivers We could also imagine that you test the new RandR 1.2 MGA driver (1.9.99 in experimental), but you might hate me if I ask for more testing :) And this driver seems pretty young so far, so we'll see that later. thanks, Brice ___ Yahoo! Bug#428797: xrandr multihead and window placement
also sprach Keith Packard [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007.09.19.1643 +0100]: The root window will get a ConfigureNotify event whenever the RandR setup changes, so applications need only select for that event before talking to the extension. Bug#443345: automatic map rendering on tag wikipages
also sprach Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007.09.20.2013 +0100]: It seems like what you want could be accomplished by some combination of http://ikiwiki.info/todo/default_content_for_new_post/ and http://ikiwiki.info/plugins/pagetemplate/ You mean the 3. Make pages able to embed in them a pagespec that says they are the template when new pages are created that match that pagespec. This is the most general solution, but depends on plugin data storage. Yes, I could see this working, but would still need some form of way of getting the current page name, since I can't hardwire it: [[map pages=link($tagbase/foo) or link($tagbase/foo/*)]] Sorry if this is obvious, but I am pretty much an ikiwiki newbie and have not found a way to get at the current page name. I'm iffy about whether what you describe makes sense for wikis that use more freeform tags, rather than keeping them all in tagbase. Just because page A calls page B a tag doesn't necessarily mean that page B wants to be rendered with a different template. That could be very suprising in some situations. No, in that sense I think it makes sense only to pages matching $tagbase/* . -- .''`. martin f. krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED] : :' : proud Debian developer, author, administrator, and user `. `'` http://people.debian.org/~madduck - http://debiansystem.info `- Debian - when you have better things to do than fixing systems health? what good is your health when you're otherwise an idiot? -- theodor w. adorno digital_signature_gpg.asc Description: Digital signature (see http://martin-krafft.net/gpg/)

May I see your xorg.conf when MGA is disabled? I want to make sure there is no dangerous line, for instance Screen 0 Rightof 1, RandR drivers generally don't like these. Even with MGA disabled, it could cause ATI 6.7.192 to crash. Bug#443427: looses flagged items randomly
Package: liferea Version: 1.4.1-1 Severity: grave Hi, This is somehow related to bug #442811, but in my case liferea looses flagged items randomly while running. I had couple of dozens of job ads flagged and lost all of them apart from only few. I don't know if I observed it correctly, but the lost ones were one day older than the ones that stayed untouched. Today I've added one more and again, the ones that have been there yesterday, vanished and the only one left is the flagged today. Oddly enough four flagged items from other websites are there for couple of weeks and nothing has happened to them.
