I think you changed one log level too many from 4 to 3. And what's this
 double ^I log output?

Bug#353227: asterisk: Doesn't lock voicemail.conf for update

2007-09-21 Thread Faidon Liambotis
forwarded 353227 http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=10781
thanks

Hi,
On behalf of the team, sorry for the very very very late response :-)

This problem appears to be more generic since there is a
config_text_file_save() function nowdays and I have confirmed that it
doesn't use flock().
This would be a bigger problem when using e.g. asterisk-gui that tried
to write to the configuration files using the above function.

Adding the locks isn't that trivial since this means that it may block
indefinitely or fail immediately, none of which is a good thing for this
type of application.

I've forwarded the bug upstream so we can get their opinion and/or code.

Thanks,
Faidon

The system then proceeds to boot as if there were no resume image. In
addition, my swap partition becomes unusable until I `mkswap` it again,
presumably because the suspend image is still on there.

Suspending to disk and resuming worked fine in previous versions
(2.6.22-1, 2.6.21) numerous times, but I believe every time I have tried
since installing 2.6.22-2-686, this has occurred. The system is fine
otherwise; I just lose the suspend image I had.

We noticed a wierd usage of our SiteTruth.com site mentioned in a
Debian bug report. Bug report #423669 apparently patched a problem
by using a link to a CGI script on our site.

We have a system that rates web pages, and as a service for webmasters,
we have a little utility, viewer.cgi, which is used to show users how
our crawler saw a page. Somebody stuck this into a Debian watchfile
because it can be used to read a HTTPS page via HTTP, something they needed.

But viewer.cgi does more than that. It's not a transparent proxy.
It truncates pages at 1MB, parses the HTML into a tree, converts
to Unicode/UTF-8, makes all the links absolute, removes embedded
content (Javascript, Flash, etc.), and outputs the result as cleaned up
and properly indented HTML. What you get out isn't quite what went in.
So this probably isn't what you want.

SiteTruth really shouldn't be part of some Debian build procedure.
We suggest finding some other way to read HTTPS pages with HTTP.
Wrong tool for the job. Thanks.

Bug#443409: libxml-ruby1.8: Segfault when parsing file

2007-09-21 Thread Ted Reed
Package: libxml-ruby1.8
Version: 0.3.8-1
Severity: important

I get a consistent segfault when attempting to parse a file.

Code to reproduce:

require 'xml/libxml'
doc = XML::Document.file('jbo-en.xml')

It should be noted that this file is over a megabyte in size. I can make
it available via the web upon request. I cannot get a segfault when testing with
other XML files, so there's something particular about this file that's
causing the segfault. I attempted an strace, the most relevant part I
reproduce here:

read(3, ord=\caution\ valsi=\o\'i\ /\n\nn..., 4096) = 4096
brk(0xf72000) = 0xf72000
read(3, word=\robe\ valsi=\pastu\ /\n\n..., 4096) = 4096
read(3, lword word=\sea lion\ valsi=\pin..., 4096) = 4096
brk(0xf93000) = 0xf93000
read(3, re and during\ valsi=\pujeca\ /..., 4096) = 4096
brk(0xfb4000) = 0xfb4000
read(3, \ sense=\cause to begin again\ v..., 4096) = 4096
close(3)= 0
munmap(0x2acfa33af000, 4096)= 0
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---

It also seems to be particular to the Ruby bindings, as the Python
bindings to libxml2 have no such problem. (I can open the file just
fine, but the Python bindings are... ugly.)

Bug#443410: usability:changing font color does not affects new typed text

Package: openoffice.org-writer
Version: 2.2.1-7
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
currently, i have to choose/select some text and then change its color.

using other wordprocessors, i am used to: change font/background color and
then when i type anything it should be with the newly chosen font color.

this feature should be in addition to writer's current behavior.

i think it's a usability issue but may be a bug ?

No it doesn't. Also X process can not be killed with a -9 as well. As you might

Does it work if you use a single-head setup enabling only the ati board?

Thanks for the report. I'll try to reproduce this with the latest

in case it's helpful, there's supposed to be a 2.6.21 backport in
backports.org, but there was a problem with the arm upload or something to
that effect. i've spoken with the arm/bpo buildd admin (kmuto) and he's
going to fix the problem soon.

looking in upstream git, i can't be sure but i think this might be the fix:

or at least the BUG_ON is right about where i saw it (give or take a few
lines).

i don't really have the resources to try compilingpatched arm kernels, but if
you do and want me to test something just let me know.

Bug#443392: ITP: gitpkg -- helper scripts for maintaining packages with git

  Package: wnpp

  * Package name: gitpkg
Description : helper scripts for maintaining packages with git

This packages provides some simple scripts that assist with maintaining
   Debian packages in git.
   .
gitpkg- creates a source package from tagged revisons.
git-debimport - creates a git repository from a set of existing packages.

 Couldn't that be merged with git-buildpackage ?

Well, they are kind of orthogonal, so I don't really see what sense that
would make. If you are using the git-buildpackage framework, then you
don't really need these scripts -- but you can use gitpkg to create a
source package from almost any repo with a half-sane structure, not just
ones in some carefully pre-determined form. All you need is source for
a valid package in the repo, and knowledge of the tag/branch/commit that
you wish to roll the package from. gitpkg will figure out all the rest
for itself automagically. You can pluck a package from almost any
arbitrarily named point of almost any repo.

So if you are using gitpkg, you probably don't need git-buildpackage
either. I've split this out as a standalone command after it became
apparent that the snippets I'd been putting into makefile targets in
various projects to do this could easily be generalised to run as an
external agent, maintained in one place for (and instantly added to)
all of them.

git offers too many degrees of freedom, which different projects might
profitably exercise, to put development through the bottleneck of an
old-style framework. I think we can, and need to, think differently
about this, and this script is an exploration of that.

I know I'm not the only one who feels that git-buildpackage is not
'right' for them, and this is my best answer to that problem to date.
To point out a couple of concrete problems above and beyond prescribing
the repo layout:

Looking at the manual page for git-buildpackage, it would appear that
you can in fact only build packages from the current HEAD of a branch...
Is that really true? If so, it sort of misses the point of keeping
all those old package versions in revision control. If you can't go
back and perfectly reproduce an old package, then you still need to
keep the old packages themselves too... krusty, say it ain't so?

My latest problem with tools from the git-buildpackage suite was with
git-import-dsc. After discovering, to my horror, than none of the
cvs import tools seem to be able to get a cvs-buildpackage repo
correctly exported to something usable in git, I decided to forego
the detailed history in preference to being able to extract the old
packages again with perfect fidelity. I've still got the old repo's
I can examine, and it won't be too long before that's mostly all
ancient history anyhow ... so I decided to import all my old .debs
directly. And was most surprised to learn that git-import-dsc can
only import one .deb per repo. That's it.

So in the last few hours git-debimport was born to automate importing
them all. Its much cruder and less polished that gitpkg, but its also
a one-shot tool and you won't keep using it like you might gitpkg.

I've had the gitpkg script up for people to poke at on the p.d.p url
for a few weeks now, and its been used in anger on a few packages,
and used in makefile target form for much longer than that.
I've mostly packaged it for my own convenience, but uploaded it to
share the love around.

I don't profess that its in anything like a final form, but if it
provokes some discussion on Better Ways To Do Things, then I'm all
for that. If the git-buildpackage maintainer would like to pinch
or offer ideas I think that would be great. If other people find
it useful or find ways to improve it, then maybe we are on to
something. If not, it will become obsoleted by something better
and I'll be happy to chalk it up as Something I Don't Need To Do
Anymore ...

Anyhow, that's about 10x more text than it took to actually
implement it. It's already uploaded waiting in NEW and if you
can't wait that long, its a single file with built in help that
you can grab from my p.d.o space.

Have a play with it. Then we can have a constructive discussion
about what it is and where it belongs.

Cheers,
Ron

Ok I didn't see that before replying, thanks for testing.

I also think this problem is not related with dual card setup, because X can
enable my display connected to Matrox but not Radeon (w/ the dual-head
setup). I have never managed to get a display w/ my Radeon Xpress 200 card on
 7.3+2.

Assuming you downgraded back to Xorg 7.2 and Xserver 1.3, could you try
the following old xserver-xorg-video-ati package? It's the same driver
for the old Xserver 1.3. It will help us know whether the problem is in
Xserver 1.4 or in the driver.

http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2007/08/05/debian/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-ati/xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.6.193-1_i386.deb

Bug#435553: example

2007-09-21 Thread Nadav Kavalerchik
adding something like what apt io-slave to konqueror does could be useful.
if i type apt:/search?libgtk

libgtk-cni GTK+ bindings for Java (native code)

no, that is completely orthogonal. That message is part of the glibc

381341, maybe, but it's not urgent. I've several times noted that 430845
is an unrelated issue, one that just would not be fixed by building on
amd64 (according to what Ben Hodgetts said), so I'd like to address that
first. I tested 430845 earlier today, by the way, and it works for me,
so I've downgraded it, but I'd like to hear from the original submitters
too, maybe it can just be closed.

Oh. How strange, in my previous tests, the problem happened always when using
the uuencode hack and never when building properly. Now it doesn't happen at
all.

Might be related to libc or something like that, as you pointed out.

Ok I am reassigning back to ati driver then. It looks like another
Xpress 200 chipset related problem. You might want to try
xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.193-1 currently in experimental, it
contains some fixes for these chipsets. Or you can stay in testing (ati
6.6.3 + xserver-xorg-core 1.3). Or you can stay in unstable and use a
rebuild of the old 6.6.3 driver for Xserver 1.4, I'll build that soon
anyway.

Bug#443418: extended description and README.Debian refer to old FUSE status

2007-09-21 Thread Philippe Cloutier
Package: ntfs-3g
Version: 1:1.710-2
Severity: minor

The extended description contains ntfs-3g is based on FUSE (userspace
filesystem framework for Linux), thus you will have to prepare fuse kernel
module to be able to use it. Similarly, README.Debian contains

1. Load fuse kernel module and add them to /etc/modules :
   modprobe fuse echo fuse /etc/modules

These must refer to previous issue with fuse. Currently everything seems
automagical.

BTW, README.Debian's content is quite similar to the last part of the
upstream's README content.

Bug#443419: quilt mail command cannot find sendmail

2007-09-21 Thread Ian Campbell
Package: quilt
Version: 0.46-4
Severity: normal

Hello,

The quilt mail command does not work for me since it cannot find
/usr/sbin/sendmail in the path of a normal user.

$ quilt mail --send --subject 'foo' --from 'Ian Campbell [EMAIL PROTECTED]'
--to '$MAINTAINER'
  sendmail -f [EMAIL PROTECTED] $MAINTAINER
No mail transfer agent configured for `quilt mail'

This last message comes from /usr/share/quilt/compat/sendmail.

I tried explicitly setting my $PATH to include /usr/sbin, using sudo and
running as root and none of these seemed to work. In the end I had to
add the /usr/sbin/ prefix to the sendmail command in
/usr/share/quilt/mail explicitly.

I suspect part of the problem is in /usr/share/quilt/scripts/patchfns
where:
  export PATH=$QUILT_DIR/compat:$PATH
this means that the compat stuff will always take precedence, you
probably want the comapt bit at the end. This still won't help find
sendmail in the default $PATH but at least adding /usr/sbin to $PATH
would work as a workaround.

Thanks,
Ian.

Hi,

I tried again. The failure didn't happen after the third

some randomness in the build process that makes it to fail sometimes.

You can try doing:
while dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc; do :; done

To use this package, upgrade back to unstable (xserver-xorg-core 1.4 and
drivers) and then replace your xserver-xorg-video-ati with this one
(dpkg -i foo.deb). If it works, there is no problem for you with Xserver
1.4, only the ati driver 6.6.193-3 is broken.

The first line ignores all kind events (battery, lid, power, hkey). Or
are there acpi event that should trigger logcheck?

Thanks! In general, I don't think logcheck should let any acpid
messages pass, so this should be okay.

Ok.

I am missing information about where these filters go, but I'll
 assume ignore.d.server/acpid.

That's right.

Also, you might want to have a look at
   http://wiki.logcheck.org/index.cgi/RuleSubmission

for future submissions. Specifically, we don't really want rules
that don't cover the whole line and do not end with $. And in
between, the filter should be as specific as possible.

Well, if I want to have a rule, that is triggered just by the beginning
of the log line (e.g. rules 1,2,3,5,6 above) no matter what follows, it
would be a bad idea to add .*$ just to have a $ at the end, as this is
computationally more expensive (and logcheck uses already enough cpu
power).

It is a good thing to have rules that are as specific as possible. But
they should only be as specific as needed, don't you agree? (or am I
missing something here?)

The rules above are unspecific (to some extent) because it is their
purpose to match to a lot of cases. So, there is really no need to be
more specific. If so, many more rules would be necessary (which is again
not helpful for logchecks performance).

cheers,
Hp.

Bug#442645: exim4: newer BDB

If the local admin decides to use db files for some input lists, they
 need to do manual work.

So build-depending on libdb-dev should mean you wouldn't need to change
the b-d ever again unless there's an incompatible API change that isn't
handled by the upstream code. Furthermore, it would be possible to
switch to a newer version with just a binNMU.

Given your transient data description, I doubt there will be any trouble
with you always keeping up with what is deemed the current version.

Hello,

I think so too. However I think we should keep manually updating when
necessary

There are a couple of reasons why exim should not always automatically
use the latest and greatest bdb. exim is in base (Priority: standard).

- The newest and latest bdb has not always been of sufficiently high
  priority itself.[1]

- IMHO base should try to limit itself to one version of bdb at a
time. There is no big win in exim switching, if e.g. libpam-modules
or libsasl2-2 (required by libldap2 which gnupg depends on) does
  not.

- Users sometimes configure exim to pull data from other b-db using
software (e.g. DRAC for POP before SMTP) or use libberkeleydb-perl
to build databases for exim. Therefore these should really /try/ to
use bdb versions with compatible on-disk format.

The only module I had loaded that would taint the kernel would be

Bug#443421: Feature request (with patch) to finetune config usage in i8kmon

2007-09-21 Thread Rowan Thorpe
Package: i8kutils
Version: 1.25
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch,upstream

I suggest a small, non-intrusive option be added to i8kmon as described
below... I
have attached a small patch which implements the option. It works (at least)
against
i8kutils-1.25.

The option serves to prevent sourcing ~/.i8kmon. This would be most useful when
running
i8kmon from an init-script - as sourcing the /root/.i8kmon file might often be
inappropriate. To that end, the patch also edits the example-init file as
illustration
(and manpage too).

Of course, if you wish to use this at all you may prefer different option-names
than
--nouserconfig, -nc, and different wording in the manpage, etc...

I hope I submitted this in the correct fashion... (I'm not familiar with Debian)

I don't think this is right. This is the last commit in the branch, and
it doesn't change anything in the code. So the breakage cannot appear

This is also benefical for endusers, as they will not need to

My version of xkb-data is 1.0~cvs.20070916-1. Downgrading this to

Even if it says it is a bad commit, you need to keep doing more steps
until there are no more revisions left to test after this. Right now,
we only know that the breakage appeared between 1.1.5 and the above
commit. But there are still 8 commits between them, and it could be any
of them causing the problem.

another bug that was already fixed after PRE7.

Since upstream asked for full debug output of squid3 to diagnose the

when the bug appears?

You can follow the upstream bug report at

Thanks for that. I installed the packages, cleared out the spool dir,
regenerated it, and started squid3.

After a few hours of casual browsing, the same problems started
appearing. Pages with many resources (images, js, css) appeared
broken.

Sometimes the page itself would be replaced by an icon or some other
random content in the cache.

The patch doesn't seem to have changed anything with regard to this
problem.

Bug#436703: #436703: - patch broken - only 8 scsi devices?

2007-09-21 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Hi,

I'm documenting a discussion about this bug on #debian.de, which had the
following results:

++#define MAX_SCSI_DISKS 8

unfortunately that's broken. It's pretty easy to have way more than 8
scsi devices before the drives in your machine are initialized. You'll
have to take care of all scsi devices.

++  /sys/block/sdX/device/scsi_disk:*/manage_start_stop;

libsysfs should provide highlevel functions to access this.

Bug#443260: glade: docs went to /dev/null

On Thu, Sep 20, 2007, Sven Arvidsson wrote:
I can't reproduce this, how did you end up with this? Do you still have
 some glade 2.12 packages installed?

This can happen when a version of a package ships a symlink to a
directory and the next one ships a directory: the unpacking of the new
package takes place where the symlink points to and the removal of the
old package might remove the new dir.

The solution is to rm the symlink or the directory before upgrade, in
 the preinst script.

attaching the Xorg.0.log again. In this log file I have executed X with a

Thanks.

May I see your xorg.conf when MGA is disabled? I want to make sure there
is no dangerous line, for instance Screen 0 Rightof 1, RandR drivers
generally don't like these. Even with MGA disabled, it could cause ATI
6.7.192 to crash.

If it even crashes when the whole dual-board config is disabled, the
next step would be to remove the MGA board from the machine so that the
server does not even try to look at it, I'll understand if you can't do
this :)

also sprach Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007.09.20.2013 +0100]:
It seems like what you want could be accomplished by some combination
 of http://ikiwiki.info/todo/default_content_for_new_post/ and
 http://ikiwiki.info/plugins/pagetemplate/

You mean the

 3. Make pages able to embed in them a pagespec that says they
are the template when new pages are created that match that
pagespec. This is the most general solution, but depends on
 plugin data storage.

Yes, I could see this working, but would still need some form of way
of getting the current page name, since I can't hardwire it:

  [[map pages=link($tagbase/foo) or link($tagbase/foo/*)]]

Sorry if this is obvious, but I am pretty much an ikiwiki newbie and
have not found a way to get at the current page name.

I'm iffy about whether what you describe makes sense for wikis that use
more freeform tags, rather than keeping them all in tagbase. Just
because page A calls page B a tag doesn't necessarily mean that page B
wants to be rendered with a different template. That could be very
 suprising in some situations.

No, in that sense I think it makes sense only to pages matching
$tagbase/* .

The rules above are unspecific (to some extent) because it is
their purpose to match to a lot of cases. So, there is really no
need to be more specific. If so, many more rules would be
necessary (which is again not helpful for logchecks performance).

I didn't make the submission rules, I just observed them. The only
thing I can say is that performance is not something I worry about
with logcheck, or I'd have long orphaned the package. :)

I didn't mean that the submission rules are unspecific. What I meant is,
that the logcheck rules I submitted are unspecific, because it is their
purpose to match a lot of different lines (with the same straing pattern
though) in syslog.

And the fact that you do not worry about performance does not mean that
I shouldn't, does it? :-)

So, in short: I am convinced that the (logcheck) rules I submitted are
best kept as they are (not using an $ at the end), because it is their
intention to be unspecific.

If you agree, I can also submit them as a patch.

Yes, I know. But the submission rules say that your rules are not
acceptable and that you should put .+$ after them, because those
are the rules, but I did not make them.

And the fact that you do not worry about performance does not mean
 that I shouldn't, does it? :-)

If you do, please concentrate your energy on other parts of logcheck
which are much greater performance hogs than regexps processed by
egrep. :)

I am fine with your rules. You don't need to make a patch, but if
you want, please go ahead. git is fun to play with.

Bug#443274: dual-card setup doesn't work with X 1.4

Attaching the xorg.conf file that i used. I can't remove the mga card today (
would be too much disruption for my work.).
But I think I can try that tomorrow.
Thanks,

 Hi there,
Ok I have made some more tests. I have installed xorg packages from unstable.
I have also install mga and ati drivers from experimental. What happens is
whether I turn off definitions for Mga or not I get a segfault. I am
attaching the Xorg.0.log again. In this log file I have executed X with a
single head-setup. Let me know if you need more information. I can do some
 more testing I think.

Thanks.

May I see your xorg.conf when MGA is disabled? I want to make sure there
is no dangerous line, for instance Screen 0 Rightof 1, RandR drivers
generally don't like these. Even with MGA disabled, it could cause ATI
6.7.192 to crash.

If it even crashes when the whole dual-board config is disabled, the
next step would be to remove the MGA board from the machine so that the
server does not even try to look at it, I'll understand if you can't do
this :)

Bug#443427: looses flagged items randomly

2007-09-21 Thread Rafal Czlonka
Package: liferea
Version: 1.4.1-1
Severity: grave

Hi,
This is somehow related to bug #442811, but in my case liferea looses
flagged items randomly while running. I had couple of dozens of job ads
flagged and lost all of them apart from only few.
I don't know if I observed it correctly, but the lost ones were one day
older than the ones that stayed untouched. Today I've added one more and
again, the ones that have been there yesterday, vanished and the only
one left is the flagged today.
Oddly enough four flagged items from other websites are there for couple
of weeks and nothing has happened to them.

Cheers,
Raf
