Seems I spoke too soon. While the segfault was prevented in test mode

Line 709 in the patched source is:

 and line 845 is:

(which seems strange - how can that lead, 3 frames later, to line 845?).

Commenting out the if block surrounding the call to CalculatePPSAverage
on line 709 and always using the else block instead prevents the
segfault. The preceding comment if possible use an averaged offset
suggests this is OK (but perhaps less accurate or less efficient? I'm
making changes now without understanding the implications...).

I guess the problem is in the libc qsort call, I pass in an array of
timediff which is int's but tell qsort that it is of size long. Not a
problem on an ia32 machine as the two are the same size. However if they
are different it will cause a problem.

Bug#437805: synaptic: Problem between theme and the upgrade.png icon

2007-10-30 Thread Philip Frei
Hi,

also there are other missing icons like package-install -reinstall
-upgrade and so on.
I think this is not a problem with synaptic but with
the icon theme. Synaptic gives me the following error message:

Warning, failed to load: package-availableSymbol »package-available«

Changing the icon theme brings some but not all icons back. Any idea?

Philip.

2007-10-30 Thread Christian Perrier
BTW, while preparing the call for translation updates for
zekr-quran-translations-en, I noticed that you (Mohammad D.) ar
ementioned in the Persian translation of debconf templates.

I therefore assume that you're actually a native speaker of Persian.

As in charge of the i18n/l10n of the Debian Installer, I'm still
trying to revive the Persian translation work for it, initiated in the
past with Arash Bijanzadeh.

So, in case someone you know...or you...would be interested
contributing to this work (which involves quite a lot of EN-FA
transation), please let me know.

This is definitely an area where I would be delighted to see some
improvement as we had to temporarily deactivate Persian in Debian
Installer because of the lack of maintenance of the translation.

Well, in that case, manpages-de is buggy.

Btw. I think it does not matter if the manpage mentions this
configuration option. It's in the source, so the english manpage should
 be updated.

It's not documented, since it's not supported. There is leftover code for it,
but that doesn't mean it's supported.

And if you read the source you can see that the programmer wanted to
support multiple ranges but made mistake while implementing it.

And then it was later ditched altogether. The fact that there's a parser for
something doesn't mean you can expect it to work. I expect the code will
simply get removed at some point.

Which indeed indicates that the rebuild did not reach the archive yet.
As [0] doesn't seem to know about the binNMU, the binNMU might indeed
not get scheduled though it is mentioned on [1].

The correct action is not to reopen the bug, but to ask why it didn't

proxies in a very simple way.
 .
A proxy is a program that transfer data across a network boundary between
a client and a server. Net::Proxy introduces the concept of connectors,
which abstract the server part (connected to the client) and the client
part (connected to the server) of the proxy.
 .
This makes it very easy to implement specific techniques to cross a
given network boundary, possibly by using a proxy on one side of the
network fence, and a reverse-proxy on the other side of the fence.

This is not a bug in live-helper, but a bug in live-initramfs.

 Please fix this typo:
 chroot/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/live

which was already fixed as of live-initramfs 1.110.3-1, hence closing
this bug.

It must be some C library message. Please reassign this bug for me.

Bug#426260: color is disturbed when tvtime changes default color settings

2007-10-30 Thread A. Costa
On Tue, 29 May 2007, A. Górniak said:

...(tvtime has no separate hue/colour controls)...

For the record, 'tvtime' has 'hue/saturation' which is the same thing.

On the bug itself, I'm getting the same dropped colors, _sometimes_,
but only after recently upgrading to an AMD mobo -- on my previous
Intel mobo it never happened. Possibly relevant 'lspci' data:

00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8375 [KM266/KL266] Host Bridge
00:01.0 PCI bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8633 [Apollo Pro266 AGP]
00:08.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt848 Video Capture
(rev 01)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV15DDR [GeForce2 Ti]
(rev a4)

The 'nvidia' card is the same as on my old system, (moved it over), it's
probably not the immediate cause.

What happens is that I'll close 'tvtime', and it worked fine; then do
some other stuff, maybe run some video viewer, then on restarting
'tvtime' everything looks too green. Restarting X ('nv' driver)
restores the 'tvtime' colors. On one occasion proper colors were
restored without restarting X, but I'm not sure how -- if I find a
reproducible method I'll post it.

HTH...

Bug#448592: RM: libmusicbrainz-queries-perl, libmusicbrainz-client-perl -- RoM; obsoleted by libwebservice-musicbrainz-perl

2007-10-30 Thread Michael Ablassmeier
Package: ftp.debian.org

hi,

please remove libmusicbrainz-queries-perl aswell as libmusicbrainz-client-perl
from the archive. MusicBrainz have developed a new XML Based WebService API and
the old RDF web service has been deprecated and should not be used for new
development.

Even tho the old RDF based Service is still working, MusicBrainz may stop
providing access to their rdf based data after 2007, so it certainly does not
make any sense to ship it in an upcoming stable release anyways.

Both packages are superseeded by libwebservice-musicbrainz-perl. No reverse
deps afaikt.

Bug#447903: Too much granularity

2007-10-30 Thread Santiago Vila
After installing a lenny system, I found this bug too, and the
proposed solution of using recommends seems suboptimal to me.

10 packages of 30K each! Do we really want such over-granularity?
What about Ockham's Razor? Things should not be multiplied beyond necessity.
Do we really benefit from having 10 packages of 30K each?

IMHO, the confusion caused by this is much greater than the saved space on disk.

I'm not opening a new bug for this, but I wish you would reconsider
about this multi-split.

Thanks.

To fix it, a symlink must be installed for all shared objects, e.g.:

   root:/usr/lib# ln -s libmailutils.so.1 libmailutils.so

This is documented in README.Debian, but I'm not sure that's enough. Any
other suggestion? Depending on the -dev package is not a good
alternative, but maybe creating a (tiny) package for the guile stuff
which does depend on -dev could be.

It seems that the rebuild was never rescheduled, sid still has
 0.8.6.c-3.

Which indeed indicates that the rebuild did not reach the archive yet. As
[0] doesn't seem to know about the binNMU, the binNMU might indeed not
get scheduled though it is mentioned on [1].

The correct action is not to reopen the bug, but to ask why it didn't get
 scheduled.

Sorry, but as indeed the fixed version didn't reach the archive, and the last
action on the bug was a week ago, I thought following up on it would be a
good idea, and I thought it'd be better to reopen the bug if I was to reply
to. Feel free to close it again.

Bug#448597: rkhunter: fails to retrieve hashes on systems with prelink and little disk space

2007-10-30 Thread Stephen Kitt
Package: rkhunter
Version: 1.3.0-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

When running rkhunter on a system with prelink, the hash checks can fall
foul of prelink's checks for sufficient diskspace. I'm not sure whether
this should be considered a bug in rkhunter or in prelink...

Anyway, the symptoms are that rkhunter takes ages to run, and fails to
find any hashes for the binaries it's interested in. The reason is that
the prelink wrapper script (which is specific to Debian) checks the free
disk space and requests user confirmation if less than 5 KB is
available; the user confirmation has a 20s timeout, so rkhunter sits
around waiting for prelink for 20s every time it's invoked when disk
space is insufficient.

5 KB might seem negligible by today's standards, but I use separate
/, /usr etc. on all my systems and one of them recently dipped below
5 KB on /. I haven't checked whether prelink really needs all that
space to prelink binaries in / in this situation; I'll give it a shot
later today.

Here's an extract from rkhunter.log illustrating the problem:

[11:04:24] Warning: No hash value found for file '/usr/bin/lastlog'
[11:04:44] Hash command output: Partition /dev/md/0 (/) has only 49890
KB free.::!! WARNING !!:It's recommended to have at least 5 KB of disk
space.:Prelink would _really_ damage the ELF files on those
partitions.::Aborting prelink.
[11:05:04] Warning: No hash value found for file '/usr/bin/ldd'
[11:05:24] Hash command output: Partition /dev/md/0 (/) has only 49890
KB free.::!! WARNING !!:It's recommended to have at least 5 KB of disk
space.:Prelink would _really_ damage the ELF files on those
partitions.::Aborting prelink.

Obviously rkhunter can't do much about this particular failure mode in
prelink (other than perhaps calling prelink.bin directly if the disk
space issue is irrelevant for verifications), but it would be nice if it
didn't attempt to run prelink however many times after the first
failure.

Regards,

Stephen

Bug#448598: tar -C foo -c . | tar -C bar -x ends up with nothing on read errors

2007-10-30 Thread Marcin Owsiany
Package: tar
Version: 1.16-2
Severity: normal

I was hoping to save what I can from a disk which starts to show read
errors, by using the following command:

sudo tar --ignore-failed-read -C /media/data_big -cv -f - . | sudo tar -C /mnt
-x -f -

Unfortunately, after the reading tar encountered about three unreadable
files, the two processes got desynchronized somehow, and stracing the
receiver tar revealed that it did nothing but read lots of data from
standard input. As a result, nothing got to the destination disk after
the read errors were encountered.

Bug#448600: Wammu overwrites clipboard on Create Contact or Edit Contact

2007-10-30 Thread Florian Lohoff

Package: wammu
Version: 0.23-1
Severity: minor

Hi,
when double clicking on a contact and the Edit Contact dialog
opens wammu overwrites the clipboard with the phonebook location
number which is the first entry in the form which is selected.
This also happens when using Create - Contact then the clipboard
gets overwritten with a 0.

This is really annoying as one edits a contact and trys to insert
a number finds himself with a overwritten clipboard.

Bug#448602: munin-node: ntp plugin only working with ntp package

2007-10-30 Thread Fabrice LORRAIN
Package: munin-node
Version: 1.2.5-1
Severity: minor

Hello,

I just discovered that the ntp plugin provided with munin-node is using
/usr/bin/ntpq which is only provided by the ntp package, this is rendering
this plugin unusable with other ntp package provided in debian (openntp in
my case).

I would suggest to inform the user by adding a warning/information in the
header of /usr/share/munin/plugins/ntp_.

A suggest in munin-node header might also give a hint... or not.

Bug#448603: wammu should offer a default name field on Create - Contact

Hi,
when creating a contact entry wammu has by default field
set with a type. As Contacts typically get addressed by their
name in the Phonebook it might make sense to set the first
dataset entrys type on Create Contact to Text_Name or
whatever that phone types default nameset is. This would
make it much faster to create new entrys.

Bug#448601: wammu should remember last entrys phonebook type if creating multiple entrys

2007-10-30 Thread Florian Lohoff
Package: wammu
Version: 0.23-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
in case one creates multiple phonebook entrys wammu should remember
the last entrys phonebook e.g. ME or SM or whatever the phonebook
is called on different phone models. It is very likely that the use
either stores all entrys on the SIM (Unlikely) or the Phone - thus
remembering this entry would be a real win on multiple create edits.

Bug#448606: wammu breaks on contact update in case number contains spaces

2007-10-30 Thread Florian Lohoff
Package: wammu
Version: 0.23-1
Severity: minor

Hi,
in case you decide to enter a number with spaces e.g. +49 171 2280134
wammu happily accepts this via cut'n'paste but later fails to write the
number to the phone dropping all entered information.

Actually this is a multifold bug - I would expect wammu to allow any
input and normalize the number automatically or warn if impossible and
thus should silently remove spaces or maybe tell the user about a
broken format.

It should not fail and drop all entered information.

As a side note there is also a editing bug hidden. When pasting a number
with spaces like the above one is not able to add a single digit anymore
as long as a space is contained in the number.

Bug#399724: klibc from unstable segfaults on sparc again

could you please check out the different klibc versions,
as the diff between 1.4.34-1 and 1.5.7-2 is huge,
so i'd really need more information to pinpoint the trouble.

The regression is somewhere between 1.5.5-1 (which doesn't segfault on

ah and you'd have to downgrade initramfs-tools most probably.

as the segfault also happens by executing /usr/lib/klibc/bin/fstype (for
example) on the normal console - luckily I don't need to boot every time
to figure it out.

Bug#448609: wammu: gammu should offer phone vendor/type and connection type settings instead of protocol names

2007-10-30 Thread Florian Lohoff
Package: wammu
Version: 0.23-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
Wammu should really have a phone database and possibly detect the
possible connection methods e.g. serial, irda, bluetooth on first
startup and then let the user select the phone (or autodetect) and the
connection method. Wammu should then select the correct protocol by
itself.

Bug#448610: unixodbc wrongly claims it includes dltest

2007-10-30 Thread petes-bugs
Package: unixodbc
Version: 2.2.11-13

unixodbc's package description says it includes dltest (dltest

the dltest command, which is of limited utility to end users). I
recommend removing this line from the package descpription to save
confusion.

put on installation manual but not installer itself.

Can you please explain what you me by corner cases?

By corner cases I meant needs that just few users will have. Those
shouldn't be part of installer (or not enabled by default) leaving the
installer as simple as possible for majority of our users.

Bug#448504: fontconfig: Some fonts won't render correctly after upgrade to 2.4.91-1

2007-10-30 Thread Felix Homann

That's weird. I cannot reproduce this myself.

Strange I see this on both of my machines, one AMD64 the other x86.

Can you check your
iceweasel configuration to make sure you're using Sans Serif?

The screenshot I sent is showing konqueror, but it's the same in
iceweasel. In iceweasel the Sans-serif font is 'sans-serif'. I have to
decrease the font size once (Ctrl+-) to see the effect.

And then,
can you see what:

  $ fc-match -v 'Sans Serif'

returns?

I've attached the output using both versions of fontconfig.

If those look good,

How do I tell?

please try to reproduce this with something simpler,
like 'xfd' (using the -fa option) or even the 'gwaterfall' program which
you'll find in my git repository: git://keithp.com/git/gwaterfall.

No success so far, i.e. gwaterfall seems to display all fonts just fine.

Some further information that might be helpful:

I'm using the en_US.UTF-8 locale.
I've even attached a list of font related packages installed ont his
system (dpkg -l | grep font).

I've even created a new user, logged in, started iceweasel, went to
golem.de or spiegel.de, hit Ctrl+- and saw the same effect.

I can't seem to reproduce this with irssi 0.8.12 in unstable,

I'd expect it to not work - without using extended colors, ncurses will
display only 16 colors. (Extended colors is provided by a different ABI
 version of ncurses).

I don't think I have asked for expectations, feel free to test it,
thanks. As I said I wasn't able to reproduce the problem with that
version. Saying that extended colors are provided by a different ABI
version of ncurses sounds that one would need to recompile irssi against
that different version to be able to reproduce it, or do I get you
wrong?

I'm not sure if this is a right approach, but given that you leave no
hints on how to be able to reproduce it, I've tried the pretty girly
color codes from urxvt(7) and irssi worked well in my rxvt-unicode, and
in xterm with TERM=xterm-88color. So in case you have anything useful to
add, please do so and help me to reproduce it ...

It did not occur at a moment I was actively using Psi. My Psi had been
running for a dozen or so hours, being in off-line mode for the
night. In the morning, I put it in online mode and forgot about
it. Then, an hour or two later I noticed psi wasn't running anymore
and found the debug dump in my ~/.xsession-errors .

I'm using an SSL connection over a SOCKS proxy; that's the only
unusual thing I can think of.

Bug#446324: lighttpd: stderr not closed

2007-10-30 Thread Olaf van der Spek

Michal Čihař wrote:

I can reproduce it only in postinst (the code is actually already in
phpmyadmin package, just the debconf option for lighttpd is not there
as it would break).

After some more testing it seems that some interaction between debconf
and lighttpd causes this. You can reproduce it by following script:

#!/bin/sh
. /usr/share/debconf/confmodule
invoke-rc.d lighttpd reload

The fix for this seems to be to use

invoke-rc.d lighttpd reload 3/dev/null

however I don't know why this fixes it, at it looks to me more like a
workaround than a fix to me :-).

I think it's related to this code:
# Only do this once.
if [ -z $DEBCONF_REDIR ]; then
# Redirect standard output to standard error. This prevents common
# mistakes by making all the output of the postinst or whatever
# script is using this library not be parsed as confmodule
commands.

#
# To actually send something to standard output, send it to fd 3.
exec 31
if [ $DEBCONF_USE_CDEBCONF ]; then
exec 15
else
exec 12
fi
DEBCONF_REDIR=1
export DEBCONF_REDIR
fi

My guess is that this code is opening fd 3 (stdout is fd 1, stderr is fd
2) and not closing it. Then Lighttpd inherits fd 3 and doesn't close it
either. I've no idea who is supposed to close it though.

Bug#448612: idjc: stream status button stops working sometimes, making it unreliable.

2007-10-30 Thread Tatiana de la O
Package: idjc
Version: 0.6.9-1ubuntu1
Severity: normal

Hi there!

I'm in love with the program after some install fights, mainly with
jack.

It looks like a python version of muse, somehow, with a better user
interface for sure.

I'm asking for a kind change in the stream button though:

Sometimes, after time of use, when you have people listening to the
stream and everything working, the stream button stops working. I'm
talking after one hour or two of use...

And that makes me go always (even when it is already working) to the
icecast monitor page to see what happens.

Can that button's reliability be revised a bit, and also, from a user
interface point of view, wouldn't be better if it blinked (slowly...)

Thanks!

Tatiana

Bug#448609: wammu: gammu should offer phone vendor/type and connection type settings instead of protocol names

2007-10-30 Thread Michal Čihař
Hi

Dne Tue, 30 Oct 2007 12:25:19 +0100
Florian Lohoff [EMAIL PROTECTED] napsal(a):

Wammu should really have a phone database and possibly detect the
possible connection methods e.g. serial, irda, bluetooth on first
startup and then let the user select the phone (or autodetect) and the
connection method. Wammu should then select the correct protocol by
 itself.

This is basically what guided configuration does, have you tried that?
It should be probably a bit more advertised ... any idea?

Bug#448600: Wammu overwrites clipboard on Create Contact or Edit Contact

2007-10-30 Thread Michal Čihař
Hi

Dne Tue, 30 Oct 2007 11:58:24 +0100
Florian Lohoff [EMAIL PROTECTED] napsal(a):

when double clicking on a contact and the Edit Contact dialog
opens wammu overwrites the clipboard with the phonebook location
number which is the first entry in the form which is selected.
This also happens when using Create - Contact then the clipboard
 gets overwritten with a 0.

This is really annoying as one edits a contact and trys to insert
a number finds himself with a overwritten clipboard.

This looks like wxGTK/wxPython issue to me as Wammu definitely does not
touch clipboard itself. However I will look for workaround.

I like the metatag function on the system, but for becoming a real
tagging feature (maybe this is not desired), could use of some of the tricks
the easytag autocomplete feature uses...

on the same tagging field, it could be nice to have an implementation of
the last.fm scrobbling...
like the mpd has (mpdscribble, discontinued now but still working) or
the xmms.

Bug#448615: dh_installdocs : Please consider a separate handler for debian/copyright for embedded use

2007-10-30 Thread Neil Williams
Package: debhelper
Version: 5.0.59
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/dh_installdocs

This is just an idea at this stage, but Emdebian currently removes all
/usr/share/doc/ contents in order to make suitably small packages for
embedded use. It would be beneficial if debhelper could help us by
separating the handling of debian/copyright from the other
documentation so that the Emdebian distribution could remain legal (by
distributing the copyright files) without being burdened by README,
TODO and other package docs that are simply unnecessary on an embedded
device. When storage space is such a problem, it would also be useful if
the new handler would support compressing debian/copyright when a build
option is specified - maybe ifneq
($(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE),$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE) or a custom DEB_BUILD_OPTION
that Emdebian could use on top of nocheck, nodocs etc. (Seeking wider
adoption of nodocs and some kind of consistent meaning to nodocs is
another topic for discussion.)

Emdebian could then recommend wrapping dh_installdocs in the above test
with the new handler as an alternative or debhelper could do the same
internally.

Whether or not the package ChangeLog files and debian/changelog will be
distributed has not been decided yet. Copyright files are typically
small. Installing changelogs (even compressed) could end up with users
being prevented from installing necessary applications, just to provide
room for the changelog.gz files.

All ideas welcome.
