Looks like libapache-mod-lisp has been ported to Apache2 since 2004:

 http://www.fractalconcept.com:8000/public/open-source/mod_lisp/mod_lisp2.c

CCing the maintainer to see if he wants to update the package. Also
CCing the cl-modlisp maintainer to see if he wants to adopt it.

I'm the one who did the apache2 port. I also have an open ITP for
libapache2-mod-lisp, and have done most of the packaging. But I
haven't managed to put in the last few hours to get it ready for
upload. Help would be welcome, although I'll probably get it done in
time for the Lenny release.

As outlined on the debian-dpkg lists, I've been testing the removal of

the rewrite of dpkg-cross and I now have two patches (slightly modified
from the last ones posted to the list) that I would like to see in
dpkg-dev as a beginning to a process to merge dpkg-cross back into dpkg.

Okay, to make it easier to not loose track of this I properly reassigned
this to dpkg-dev and split it in two issues: one for dpkg-buildpackage and
one for dpkg-shlibdeps.

Contrary to what Hector forwarded from you on -devel, the changes for
dpkg-shlibdeps are relatively independant from the rest and since I've
been doing the work on dpkg-shlibdeps I can review and merge a good patch
of you.

If you don't provide the patch, it'll take some more time but I'll get
around to it sometime.

2007-11-28 Thread Aleix Conchillo Flaqué
It's OK for me. I haven't had time since the last series of mail

So, until I do not provide a more stable and working version, removing
it from Debian it's fine for me.

Thank you very much.

playground and the playground-xmms plugin should be removed from Debian.

They do not work at all for some people and the music-applet package is
a more feature-complete and less buggy replacement for playground.

Upstream was working on merging playground into music-applet at one
point, I don't know what the status is though. Upstream CCed.

Bug#453268: decoupling of glib bindings from gtk2 bindings

2007-11-28 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: liblablgtk2-ocaml-dev
Version: 2.10.0-2
Severity: normal

Glib bindings are tightly coupled with gtk2 bindings in lablgtk2. This
means that even only needing some of the glib stuff (e.g. UTF8 functions
as it happened to me) one has to link in a substantial part of the whole
lablgtk2.

Though less relevant than with other programming languages, where Glib
is much more useful since it provides also data structures that in OCaml
come for free, the ability to use the Glib module alone is relevant also
to OCaml IMO.

Fix this requires not only providing a separate META file for Glib,
but also reworking upstream packaging, since the Glib module is shipped
as package in the big lablgtk2 cma, some goes for the dll stub. Filing
the bug as a reminder of this feature request.

Cheers.

Bug#434861: [hppa] Stops responding; does not cleanly finish

2007-11-28 Thread Frans Pop
Hi Daniel,

Note that this issue on hppa is also different from #431054 and friends
because it does not solve itself with recent kernels. I'm now running
2.6.22 on that box, but the issue is still there.

This really is getting rather annoying. Unfortunately I lack the skills
needed to trace this myself, but if it would help getting this issue
traced/resolved, I can give you full access to my hppa box.

Cheers,
FJP

P.S. I'm currently also seeing occasional fairly random segfaults in
aptitude on amd64 :-( A simple restart of aptitude is always sufficient to
continue. I'll file a BR once I see some kind of pattern emerging.

Bug#453269: RFP: comprez -- Frontend to many compression programs

2007-11-28 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: comprez
  Version : 2.4.0
Upstream Author : Steve Kinzler [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.cs.indiana.edu/~kinzler/z
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: sh
Description : Frontend to many compression programs

(Include the long description here.)

Comprez, aka 'z', is a simple, safe and convenient front-end for the
 compress(1), uncompress(1), gzip(1), bzip2(1), tar(1), zip(1) and
unzip(1) utilities for compressing and uncompressing files and
directories. See the included man page for full details.

The basic idea behind z is that you can just run `comprez SOMETHING`
where SOMETHING is any file, directory, compressed file or compressed
archive, and program will do the right thing in a standard way.
Simple for novices and convenient for experts. Great for unpacking
downloads or compressing files to save space.

Bug#453050: also reproducible with 3.0.24-6etch6

2007-11-28 Thread Jiri Bohac
Hi,

just for the record, I also had this problem with 3.0.24-6etch6.
Downdgrading to 3.0.24-6etch4 helped.

I also had random garbage in the OS field reported by smbclient.

I saw the problem with the truncated directories on Windows NT 4.0 WS
and also on Windows XP. However, mounting the same share on linux worked
well, without truncating the directories.

Unfortunately, this is a production system, so I can't test .27 here,
but I could test fixes for 3.0.24-6etch6.

buttonpressed.sh in Debian package contains examples, which, when

tcp6 0 0 foo.work.com:38310 bar.isp.net:ssh ESTABLISHED

The two last connections are reported as tcp6,n although foo.work.com
and baz.work.com have no routable IPv6 addresses. foo has a link-local
IPv6 address, but baz most probably don't (a windows box) and bar has a
public IPv6 address, but is unreachable in IPv6 from foo.

Bug#453102: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#453102: samba mount from Windows does not show all directories and files

2007-11-28 Thread Tibor Kovacs

Sorry, but I reported this bug separately, because they are not the same.

453050 is a bug in package 3.0.14a-3sarge7 concerning SMB/smbfs mounts
from linux clients.
CIFS mounts and Windows clients work fine with this package.

453102, what I reported, is a bug in package 3.0.14a-3sarge9 (intended
to fix the bug in 3.0.14a-3sarge7) concerning mounts from Windows
clients. Linux clients both with smbfs and cifs work fine with this
package. Windows clients get missing direcrories.

In fact I had to revert back to 3.0.14a-3sarge7 because the majority of
our clients are Windows.

So the two bugs are not the same

regards
Tibor

Bug #416914 isn't being archived although its time it up. It seems it's
getting confused by the changed package name (guessed by expanding the dot
graph). Please take a look.

Bug#327443: X Forwarding broken on IPv6 systems without X11UseLocalhost

2007-11-28 Thread Rob Fulton
I have encountered exactly the problem reported in this bug and it is
causing me problems, it also appears to effect ssh port forwarding in ssh,
the setup was working perfectly until Novemeber 6th 2007 when I ran an
apt-get upgrade.

The sshd_config file has :

X11Forwarding yes
X11UseLocalhost no
GatewayPorts yes

And when I try and open a connection I can see the port is open on the
ipv6 interface :

tcp6   0  0 :::6010 :::*LISTEN

But nothing on the ipv4 interface.

I also get the same error when trying to forward a port, my client ssh
attempts to forward port 6005 on the server to port 6000 locally. Again I
can see the ipv6 interface :

tcp6   0  0 :::6005 :::*LISTEN

But nothing for ipv4, I also get :

Nov 28 09:26:05 testserver sshd[7457]: error: bind: Address already in use

In the auth.log file although netstat -an shows nothing listening and I
can run nc on the port fine after logging in

If I turn on X11UseLocalHost then my X forwading works, it has no effect
on port forwarding though.

This is ssh version 1:4.3p2-9

My dpkg.log indicates the following were upgraded on 6th November :

Bug#453279: xserver-xorg-video-intel: severe performance penalty with newer intel driver

2007-11-28 Thread Vincent Fourmond
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.2.0-1
Severity: important

  Hello,

I've noticed that, since I upgraded to version 2.2.0-1, Xorg is
extremely slow. I use fvwm, and I like to switch fast from on desk to
another. With version 2.1.0, this is reasonably fast, and I get
limited by the speed at which X works only if I really ask it (playing
with the keyboard to change fast).

However, with version 2.2.0, this gets extremely slow. For *one*
change of desk, xorg can take up to 90% of the processor. This is
really annoying, as for instance when I switch to a desk containing a
firefox instance, it takes several seconds to get displayed
completely. It really was instantaneous with version 2.1.0.

I set severity to important, as it makes it unpleasant altogether to
work on my computer (it's not dreadful, but affects virtually every
package).

  Regards,

Vincent Fourmond

PS: version numbers below might be wrong as I did switch back to the
2.1.0-1 version, as I can't really work with the newer. In any case,
I was using the latest packages from unstable.

Adding

in all cases yet unfortunately.

Bug#453280: CVE-2007-6103: remote DoS

2007-11-28 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: ihu
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Hi

The following CVE[0] has been issued against ihu.

CVE-2007-6103:

I Hear U (IHU) 0.5.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause (1) a
denial of service (infinite loop) via a packet that contains zero in the
size field in its header, which is improperly handled by the
Receiver::processPacket function; and (2) a denial of service (daemon
crash) via an (a) IHU_INFO_INIT or a (b) IHU_INFO_RING packet that does
not specify the mode, which is improperly handled by the Player::ring
function in Player.cpp.

When you fix this, please mention the CVE id in your changelog.
Thanks for your efforts.

Cheers
Steffen

Dear Brice,
I tested the xdm from testing with the same configuration files and all
is fine. So the Xaccess error occurs only in etch - the current debian
release.
I don't like debian/testing on productive servers so I'm looking for a
working xdm in etch. Or is there any way to use xdm from testing but
without libc6, cpp, x11-common and all the staff from testing?

Best regards,
Ulli

from the last ones posted to the list) that I would like to see in
dpkg-dev as a beginning to a process to merge dpkg-cross back into dpkg.

Okay, to make it easier to not loose track of this I properly reassigned
this to dpkg-dev and split it in two issues: one for dpkg-buildpackage and
 one for dpkg-shlibdeps.

Contrary to what Hector forwarded from you on -devel, the changes for
dpkg-shlibdeps are relatively independant from the rest and since I've
been doing the work on dpkg-shlibdeps I can review and merge a good patch
 of you.

I thought Guillem wanted to review the use of /usr/arm-linux-gnu/lib and
/usr/arm-linux-gnu/include ? I do have perl code that solves the problem
(used it to cross build GPE for Emdebian) involving adding search
directories to LD_LIBRARY_PATH but I wasn't sure if Guillem was looking
at a different implementation for those directories.

CC'ing debian-dpkg to find out.

Guillem: what are your plans for the diversion replacements?

Are you planning on changing the current usage of /usr/$arch/include
etc. or just changing the way that the diversion used to use a temporary
directory of symlinks or something else? Should Raphael and I work on a
solution for dpkg-shlibdeps using LD_LIBRARY_PATH using the example below?

If you don't provide the patch, it'll take some more time but I'll get
 around to it sometime.

This is the core of what would be the patch:

my $crossprefix = check_arch($arch);
#(check_arch takes a user-specified string and checks that
#dpkg-architecture supports it, then returns the triplet so for 'arm',
# e.g. $crossprefix=arm-linux-gnu;

my @librarypaths = qw( /lib /usr/lib /lib32 /usr/lib32 /lib64 /usr/lib64
/emul/ia32-linux/lib /emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib );

my @shlibdeps = ( ${crossprefix}/lib, /usr/${crossprefix}/lib,
/${crossprefix}/lib32, /usr/${crossprefix}/lib32,
/${crossprefix}/lib64, /usr/${crossprefix}/lib64,
/emul/ia32-linux/lib, /emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib );

my $libpath = join (:, @librarypaths) . join (:, @shlibdeps);

$ENV{LD_LIBRARY_PATH}.=$libpath;

That is what I'm using with the current dpkg-shlibdeps from 1.14.11 and
AFAICT it is fine (providing that the cross paths are added to the
standard paths and not replace them or perl gets confused).

If this method is ok, I'll prepare the patch against 1.14.11.

Bug#453266: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#453266: xfce4-terminal: text displays slowly and hogs CPU in some tabs and instances

On my system most terminals run this simple text output benchmark in
 2-5 seconds:

A new instance of 'xfce4-terminal' does it in 2 seconds.
Running it again in the same window takes 8 seconds, and consistently 8
after that. During those 8 seconds the CPU is at 100%.

I can really reproduce this. On this other box, when the first window is
opened, I get like 1 second. Then retry, still 1 second. I open another tab,
try there, and get 2 seconds (wich is strange, I agree). Then retry in this
tab, and 1 second.
Same thing if I open another window.

Maximizing the window, tab #1, running the benchmark takes 2 seconds
 again.

If I maximize the window, it's more like 6 seconds (wich is a lot but doesn't
really surprise me)

Unmaximizing the window, the time goes up to 8 seconds.

Unmaximizing, it's back to 1 sec.

In another instance with eight tabs, it takes up to 47 seconds**, but I
haven't been able to reliably reproduce it in other windows, though
it's happened more than once. My X session begins with an autosaved
'xfce4-terminal' session with 8 tabs, that's the 47 seconds one.
Resizing the window fixes it, for a while.

Opening 8 tabs doesn't change anything. First run is 2 sec, latter runs are 1
sec.

Can you try to reproduce with gnome-terminal, too?

As a side note, I'm using fake transparency (I can see the desktop trough
the terminal window, but only the desktop)

Hmhm, looking at the problem I'd say that yes you should use vncconfig. It
seens that it's a tool common to all vnc clients.

But it's strange that it doesn't work only since xfce upgrade. (well that was
a large upgrade, from 4.2 to 4.4).

Bug#390712: gnutls

2007-11-28 Thread Simon Josefsson
FYI, the upcoming GnuTLS 2.1.7 have a new API where applications can
provide a string to gnutls to set protocol priorities, and it can be
used to disable padding. An application could call:

gnutls_priority_set_direct (session, NORMAL:%COMPAT, NULL, 0);

Instead of calling gnutls_set_default_priority(). This will do the
same, but will also disable padding. The application could even get
this string from the user or a configuration file, so that not all users
are exposed to the vulnerability by default. Users that want to disable
padding could then change 'NORMAL' into 'NORMAL:%COMPAT' manually.

/Simon

Nikos Mavrogiannopoulos [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

OpenSSL does not support random padding. They handle TLS 1.0 padding exactly
as SSL 3.0, thus this issue does not occur there. I believe that random
 padding
is important feature that avoids statistical attacks on the data, so
 it's enabled by default
  in gnutls.

On 11/5/07, Simon Josefsson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Nikos wrote:

Ok it seems that with the help of Hanno Wagner I managed to debug this
  issue.
These clients fail to understand TLS 1.0 record packets with a padding
  added.
This only occurs when using non stream ciphers (i.e. not arcfour) and does
not occur when using SSL 3.0 which does not allow such padding. So one
  point
is for users of these devices to report that as bug.

However a fix in gnutls is not easy to do. If we disable the random
  padding in
TLS 1.0 we do disable a nice feature of TLS that protects against
  statistical
attacks. Thus I'd be against such a fix.

Why doesn't this problem happen with OpenSSL? Does it MAC padding under
some circumstances? Could GnuTLS do the same?

 /Simon

libmoose-perl fails tests cases when the 0.45-1 version of
 libclass-mop-perl is used.

Anyway, the bug is solved with the newest version of libmoose-perl 0.31
and libclass-mop-perl 0.48 (the two packages are already upgraded at
 pkg-perl svn repo)

I'm reassigning the bug to all the packages and specifying the 'found'
version number only for the real culprit, libclass-mop-perl/0.45-1. This
should make things clear for the BTS version tracking.

The current libclass-mop-perl version, 0.48, indeed fixes this.

directory of symlinks or something else? Should Raphael and I work on a
solution for dpkg-shlibdeps using LD_LIBRARY_PATH using the example below?

The real fix doesn't change LD_LIBRARY_PATH but directly the official list of
directories in scripts/Dpkg/Shlibs.pm and also directories listed in
a LD_LIBRARY_PATH submitted by the package might need to be adjusted
in a similar way (s|/usr/lib/|/usr/arch-triplet/lib/|) (provided that
the on-the-fly conversion done by dpkg-cross converts all of what's below
/usr/lib/ in packages in that way.

That is what I'm using with the current dpkg-shlibdeps from 1.14.11 and
AFAICT it is fine (providing that the cross paths are added to the
standard paths and not replace them or perl gets confused).

Care to elaborate on why perl gets confused ?

In any case, since we would _not_ change LD_LIBRARY_PATH, it shouldn't be
a problem.

nostrip should be handled magically by cdbs already.

The binary in the build directory is unstripped, but the installed binary
is stripped. I can boot the Ultra 5 again and examine the package I
built, but I'm almost certain that the binary was stripped, even though I
requested it not be, because I had to copy the unstripped binary from the
 build directory to /usr/bin.

I saw that after, there are a couple of *.mak files that call strip
before install, those have to be patched to remove the blunt calls to
strip.

Bug#453284: Formulation about followup messages is confusing

2007-11-28 Thread Bas Wijnen
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

On http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer, under Followup messages,
there is some confusing text about several bug addresses. I think
things would be more clear with a list of addresses and what they do:

-
The bug tracking system will include the submitter's address and the bug
address ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) in the Reply-To header after forwarding
the bug report. Please note that these are two distinct addresses.

If a developer wishes to reply to a bug report they should simply reply
to the message, respecting the Reply-To header. This will not close the
bug.

Do not use the reply to all recipients or followup feature of your
mailer unless you intend to edit down the recipients substantially. In
particular, see that you don't send followup messages to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

There are some special addresses which all record the mail in the BTS,
but have different addresses to which they forward it. These are:

* [EMAIL PROTECTED]: To the maintainer and subscribers. This does
  *not* go to the submitter.
* [EMAIL PROTECTED]: To the submitter. This does *not* go
  to the maintainer.
* [EMAIL PROTECTED]: To the maintainer. This does not go to
subscribers, and not even to debian-bugs-dist.
* [EMAIL PROTECTED]: This doesn't go anywhere (except to the
  BTS archive).

When several of these addresses are used in combination, the mail is
only archived once in the BTS. For example, to send the message to the
maintainer and the submitter, you can use To: [EMAIL PROTECTED],
[EMAIL PROTECTED] .
-

Thanks,
Bas

Bug#453285: openssh-server: Missing /var/run/sshd if run by inetd

2007-11-28 Thread Jörg Sommer
Package: openssh-server
Version: 1:4.6p1-6
Severity: normal

Hi,

when starting sshd from inetd, I get the message “fatal: Missing
privilege separation directory: /var/run/sshd.” This directory is created
by the init script /etc/init.d/ssh. But I created
/etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run, because I call sshd from inetd.

The init script should create the directory /var/run/sshd everytime.

Bye, Jörg.

Bug#453267: Bug#439979: dpkg-dev: Please support removal of dpkg-cross diversions

2007-11-28 Thread Neil Williams

(used it to cross build GPE for Emdebian) involving adding search
directories to LD_LIBRARY_PATH but I wasn't sure if Guillem was looking
at a different implementation for those directories.

I don't know what he plan to do, but for dpkg-shlibdeps's part it's clear
that we need to fix the list of directories to search. So I'd be ready to
apply a patch for this part. We can always tweak it later if needed.

OK.

 CC'ing debian-dpkg to find out.

Guillem gets the BTS mail, no need for an explicit CC to the list.

Oops. Sorry.

directory of symlinks or something else?

Yes, that sounds good - the only reason I change LD_LIBRARY_PATH right
now is because dpkg-shlibdeps reads that variable. If the change is done
within it, then I agree, we shouldn't need to touch LD_LIBRARY_PATH
directly.

That is what I'm using with the current dpkg-shlibdeps from 1.14.11 and
AFAICT it is fine (providing that the cross paths are added to the
standard paths and not replace them or perl gets confused).

Care to elaborate on why perl gets confused ?

If LD_LIBRARY_PATH does not include /usr/lib/ but only
/usr/$triplet/lib, perl cannot find it's own shared objects (presumably
within the interpreter).

This only became noticeable when I tried to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH in a
perl script that then called another perl script - the system call
failed and perl complained about a broken installation.

In any case, since we would _not_ change LD_LIBRARY_PATH, it shouldn't be
 a problem.

Agreed.

I'll see about a patch later today.

It's the effect of the change that I need, not the current method.

In theory, yes. The problem is that I don't want to move these to
unstable until there are a few more safeguards against kernel crashes in
place, and building unstable packages against packages in experimental
is generally frowned upon. The out-of-tree chan_misdn no longer
compiles, and this cannot be fixed trivially (I've tried...).

I hope we can make some progress on that front in Extremadura. :-)

Moreover, I've tried building the chan_misdn as shipped by Αsterisk with
mISDN from experimental and it failed to build.

We'll work on it in Extremadura :-)

That's great to hear. Hope you all have fun there :-)

Bug#453122: /usr/bin/gpg is suid root - unnecessary risk for rights elevation

2007-11-28 Thread Werner Koch
On Tue, 27 Nov 2007 15:57, [EMAIL PROTECTED] said:

 Severity: serious

I doubt that this is a serious problem. The option to install gpg
suid(root) has been there for nearly a decade. gpg is diligent to drop
suid as soon as possible (after mlock and even before parsing options)
and even checks that this has been done before doing any file access.

 1) bugs in gnupg will potentially allow for rights-escalation by restricted
 users

Right, problems should be minimized if possible.

 2) Setuid flag was necessary for backwards-compatibilty with 2.4.x kernels
which are no longer supported by etch anyway, the flag can therefore be
 removed

If this is the case, it should not be installed suid anymore.

Bug#453288: libclass-mop-perl: new upstream version needed to undo libmoose-perl breakage

2007-11-28 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: libclass-mop-perl
Version: 0.45-1

As seen in #453218 and others, libclass-mop-perl 0.45 broke libmoose-perl.
As the current upstream version, 0.48, isn't compatible with the current
Debian libmoose-perl version, 0.26-1, the way out of this is to update
both.

I'm filing this as 'serious' to keep 0.45-1 out of testing. Otherwise
it would go in today.

Bug#453291: zephyr: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-11-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: zephyr
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Wednesday, November 07, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for zephyr.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading zephyr with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Saturday, December 01, 2007,
when I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Saturday, December 22, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed
or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Sunday, December 23, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a
final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#453292: tshark: Does not use root privileges for writing the capture file

2007-11-28 Thread Ferenc Wagner
Package: tshark
Version: 0.99.4-5.etch.1
Severity: normal

Hi, looks like tshark drops too many capabilities when run as root:

$ touch pcap
$ sudo bash
# tshark -w pcap
tshark: The file to which the capture would be saved (pcap) could not
be opened: Permission denied.
# ls -l pcap
-rw-rw-r-- 1 wferi wferi 0 2007-11-28 11:54 pcap

sudo stayed in my home directory. If I touch the file after sudo (as
root) the program can write into it. Maybe it's by design, but it took
me quite some time to find the capset() call in the strace, which I can
at least blame for this behaviour. Or maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks,
Feri.

Description : Simple utility to limit a process's absolute execution time

The timelimit utility executes a command and terminates the spawned process
after a given time with a given signal. A warning signal is sent first,
then, after a timeout, a kill signal, similar to the way init(8) operates
on shutdown.

Actually, I already have a pretty much ready package for the timelimit

Bug#453293: phpmyadmin: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-11-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: phpmyadmin
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Friday, November 09, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for phpmyadmin.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading phpmyadmin with these changes right now.

Bug#453295: CVE-2007-6039: possible DoS

2007-11-28 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: php5-common
Severity: important
Tags: security

Hi

The following CVE[0] has been issued against php5. Could you please
check, if the debian packages are affected?

CVE-2007-6039:

PHP 5.2.5 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to cause a
denial of service (application crash) via a long string in (1) the
domain parameter to the dgettext function, the message parameter to the
(2) dcgettext or (3) gettext function, the msgid1 parameter to the (4)
dngettext or (5) ngettext function, or (6) the classname parameter to
the stream_wrapper_register function. NOTE: this might not be a
vulnerability in most web server environments that support multiple
threads, unless this issue can be demonstrated for code execution.

In case you fix this bug by an upload, please mention the CVE id in your
changelog.

Cheers
Steffen

Bug#453294: ignores boot=live, order of parameters is important

2007-11-28 Thread Thomas Lange
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.85h

I'm using initramfs-tools and live-initramfs to boot my FAI
environment. Therefore I have to append boot=live and root=/dev/nfs to
get the live-initramfs scripts executed.

If I use this order

boot=live root=/dev/nfs

it does not work, since the script /usr/share/initramfs-tools/init
defines boot=nfs when parsing root=/dev/nfs. So my definition of
boot=live get overwritten.

Using the order root=/dev/nfs boot=live
work without any hassle.

Bug#453295: three more CVEs

2007-11-28 Thread Steffen Joeris
Hi

There were three more CVEs[0][1][2] issued for php5.

CVE-2007-5900:

PHP before 5.2.5 allows local users to bypass protection mechanisms configured
through php_admin_value or php_admin_flag in httpd.conf by using ini_set to
modify arbitrary configuration variables, a different issue than
CVE-2006-4625.

CVE-2007-5898:

The (1) htmlentities and (2) htmlspecialchars functions in PHP before 5.2.5
accept partial multibyte sequences, which has unknown impact and attack
vectors, a different issue than CVE-2006-5465.

CVE-2007-5899:

The output_add_rewrite_var function in PHP before 5.2.5 rewrites local forms
in which the ACTION attribute references a non-local URL, which allows remote
attackers to obtain potentially sensitive information by reading the requests
for this URL, as demonstrated by a rewritten form containing a local session
ID.

Cheers
Steffen

It drops everything but capture capability, this is a hard call but
given the successive security problems with wireshark I believe it
is safer not to allow anything else.

Perhaps it would be nice to add a --dont-drop-capabilities flag; I
won't make it this week but I'll keep the report open so I don't
forget about it.

It looks like the build system failed to compile this on mipsel,

Any chance someone could look into getting this built for the remaining
architectures? Thanks.

Bug#453296: MacBook: cannot assign right mouse click to lower Enter key

2007-11-28 Thread Henk Koster
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+7
Severity: normal

The CD MacBook keyboard only has a single (left) mouse button
below the touchpad, so I like to assign the right mouse click
function to the lower Enter key (KP_Enter) with the commands

  xmodmap -e keycode 108 = Pointer_Button3
  xkbset m

These commands have been put in a script in .kde/Autostart. This
setup has worked fine until a recent upgrade of X, now there is no
response from hitting the lower Enter key.

I have included the output from hitting the left mouse button
(which works) and the right mouse button (which doesn't). It
appears that there is a spurious extra pair of ButtonPress/Release
events in the latter case...

I have always specified the keyboard as pc104; changing this to
pc105, macbook78 or macbook79 makes no difference. The Mouse
Navigation with numpad feature has not been enabled in KDE Settings/
Peripherals/Mouse. Enabling it (and commenting the above xkbset
command) makes no difference either.

There is no keypad entry in the /etc/X11 subtree; copying it from
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols to /etc/X11/xkb/synbols and changing
all occurrences of KP_Enter to Pointer_Button3 makes no
difference either.

Bug#451799: new evince cannot display Japanese characters correctly

2007-11-28 Thread Ondřej Surý
 However I don't think there is anything copyrightable in these files;
they only contain series of numbers that describe the mappings. Do you
people think it could be suitable for main?
(Please follow-up on -legal only for licensing discussions.)

Ondrej, are you willing - if the legal problems are settled out - to
package it? Otherwise I guess me or any of the co-maintainers could do
it, the packaging is absolutely trivial.

It's already packaged in pkg-freedesktop SVN, but it was rejected by
ftp-masters due licensing problems.

Bug#314334: apt-get on jffs2 / disabling cacheing completely

2007-11-28 Thread Paul Sladen
Hit this apt relying on shared writeable issue today with a jffs2 issue.

N800/Maemo seem to have got around this by (I think using an older version
of apt?); it's all a bit messy and could really do with handling
transparently within apt.

First messages I found on this were from 2001, over at handhelds.org.
Another option may just be to skipping the cacheing completely---it's
probably a bit unnecessary on flash devices with (relatively low) seek
times.

Hi Bastian,

Does it document or otherwise handle the problem that it is unsafe to
work on not hold messages? The queue ids are subject of rapid reuse.

no, but you're right, i will add a warning in manpage. Maybe it
should be useful too to add an option to put on hold a bunch of
emails.

I will add this for the next release of pmailq.

thx for your comments.

Bug#453093: week starts on tuesdays

2007-11-28 Thread Ludovic Rousseau

reassign 453093 libgtk2.0-0
thanks

NOTE TO GTK+ MAINTAINERS

The GTK+ sample at [3] exhibits the bug. The first day of week is
mardi (tuesday) with LANG=fr-FR.UTF-8 instead of lundi (monday). And
it is Monday instead of Sunday with LANG=C

So I reassign the bug to libgtk2.0-0.

martin f krafft a écrit :

Package: jpilot
Version: 0.99.9.17-1
Severity: normal

Since the last upgrade, the calendar widget starts weeks on
Tuesdays. I could not find a setting to control this.

It is controlled by GTK+ itself.

Up to GTK+ 2.4 it was possible to set the first day of week and jpilot
provided an option for that. But that is no more the case. Have a look
at [1] and search for the description of GTK_CALENDAR_WEEK_START_MONDAY.

TK_CALENDAR_WEEK_START_MONDAY

Since GTK+ 2.4, this option is deprecated and ignored by GTK+. The
information on which day the calendar week starts is derived from the
locale.

Also from GTK+ 2.8 Specific Notes [2]:

* In GTK+ 2.8, GtkCalendar uses nl_langinfo() (if available) to
determine the first day of the week. Thus, it is possible to select the
first day of the week independently from the language, by setting LC_TIME.

longer use u on

driver for
upgrade as well. The hold flag should really hold the package in
its current

state as described in the help until un-held.

If I set packages to a hold state, they seem to be held properly.
Perhaps there are some packages that depend on newer versions of the
packages that you have held?

  Daniel

The scenario I am talking about;

1) hold xorg-video-ati (or whatevet it is called right now)
2) close aptitude
3) open aptitude, open the upgradable packages subtree, locate the
(still closed) X11 subtree

4) press u on the X11 subtree

result: the video driver is marked for upgrade
if I manually find it and say it should be left as is there is no
dependency problem

expected: the driver is left as is. If I marked the package to be
held in current state it is because I do not want it upgraded.

Hmm. Perhaps the error message could mention this. And setuid
invocation (real uid != effective uid) could also be taken into
account. Or maybe it is, currently, I didn't test. And I definitely
won't install wireshark with the setuid bit set, after reading the

 the problem for you.

That does work. Thanks.

 You are a bit geek, aren't you? :-D :-D

Could you please test the following:

  # /etc/init.d/alsa-utils stop

  Another 15 sec?

No, it is almost instantly. The same when shutting down or rebooting: it
 reads

 Setting up ALSA...done.

And, after prompting the done, it stays around 15 seconds. *But, it is
alsa, and not the next process, to blame*. I know it because in one
computer, the next process to stop is the bluetooth. The other computer does
not have any bluetooth, so the next process to stop after alsa is a
different one (I do not remember which one).

The situation here:

Box #1 rc(0|6).d:
...
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Sep 22 14:57 K50alsa-utils -../init.d/alsa-utils*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Nov 14 13:40 K50pcscd - ../init.d/pcscd*
...

# /etc/init.d/pcscd stop
takes 15 sec to finish.
15 sec staying around after alsa-util stop while reboot/shutdown.

# mv K50pcscd _K50pcscd
A very fluent shutdown/reboot

##

Box #2 rc(0|6).d:
...
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Sep 22 14:57 K50alsa-utils -../init.d/alsa-utils*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Nov 14 13:40 K74bluetooth -
../init.d/bluetooth*
...
A very fluent shutdown/reboot

Bug reassigned to pcscd.
