Are you saying that the bug is fixed in lenny?
It is my understanding that once a release goes stable, bugs in it are
not normally fixed, except for security vulnerabilities. My goal was to
report it now in the hopes that when lenny comes out it will be fixed in
lenny. I am reluctant to upgrade

The following packages have to be installed from Debian that vlc/0.8.6.e-2.3
is working:
ffmpeg libavcodec51 libavdevice52 libavformat52 libavutil49 libpostproc51
libswscale
Packages like acroread, flash, k9copy, mythtv, mplayer, mencoder or libdvdcss
will not be removed.

I suppose you have one or more of the following packages not from Debian but
from debian.multimedia.org which is a third party repo:
ffmpeg libavcodec51 libavdevice52 libavformat52 libavutil49 libpostproc51
libswscale
Please reinstall those packages from the Debian repos.

Attaching a version against current master (since this can't make it to lenny
anyway).
PS: an (N)ACK would be nice.

rdiff-backup is based on a good concept, and I've
used it for years.
However, for no apparent reason, it started
crashing three days ago.
Its stderr follows...
This is probably caused by a bug in versions 1.0.0 and earlier.

You mean I should drop playing DVDs, get rid of Acroread and Flash,
loose k9copy, say goodbye to mythtv and deinstall mplayer and the
rest to make vlc work?
