Bug#542537: does not reliably display files keeping a filesystem from being remounted ro

2009-08-20 Thread martin f krafft
Package: lsof
Version: 4.81.dfsg.1-1
Severity: normal

After the upgrade of libcurl, my read-only system (using a flash
card instead of a disk) cannot be remounted read-only anymore.

wall:/# mount -o remount,ro /
mount: / is busy

lsof -n | grep curl shows no matches, so it does not seem like some
process is still holding the library files open from before they
were replaced.

All open files are either pipes or rest on separate tmpfs. lsof does
not show why the root filesystem cannot be remounted:

  Hi Marc,

well the first partition starts at sector 1, so there is absolutely no
space between MBR and first partition to embed.

So sfdisk is essentially incompatible to grub 2?

Just make sure the first partition starts at sector 63 like any normal
partioning tool does.
I don't know sfdisk but I doubt it wouldn't be possible with it, else
you couldn't even create a proper 2nd partition probable.

grub-legacy should tell you too that it can't embed stage1.5 just not
  that visible.

It has however never shown any unreliability in years on hundreds of
hosts. grub 2 says it won't function properly.

With grub-legacy it's exactly the same.
We just decided to make it more clear in grub2 that blocklists aren't
that great.

Bug#542539: avelsieve: fails to display filters after initial creation using dovecot's managesieve

2009-08-20 Thread James Clendenan
Package: avelsieve
Version: 1.9.7-6
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Using dovecot's managesieve service the system doesn't seem to function
correctly when displaying the filters currently installed.

As per bug 516198, and the client issues listed at
http://wiki.dovecot.org/ManageSieve/Clients the issue appears to remain a
problem in thelenny version.
The first time a user adds a rule, and then logs out, and back in, the rule has
disappeared and only a new rule can be created. As well once a rule is
created, you can't remove the
last rule in the list.

This patch should resolve the problems when using dovecot 1.1 and avelsieve

(Note: I am using a backport of dovecot 1.1.13 from squeeze for other reasons)

The patch is here:

http://www.rename-it.nl/dovecot/client-patches/avelsieve-1.9.7-dovecot.patch

For other users wanting to try this:

$ cd /usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins
$ wget
http://www.rename-it.nl/dovecot/client-patches/avelsieve-1.9.7-dovecot.patch
$ patch  -i avelsieve-1.9.7-dovecot.patch -p 0
$ /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

To revert the change use:
# patch -R -i avelsieve-1.9.7-dovecot.patch -p 0

Thanks in advance,

James Clendenan

Bug#542540: fmit: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD due to missing include

Package: fmit

Hi,

a single tweak is needed to get your package built on GNU/kFreeBSD,
which you can find in the attached patch. It pretty much looks like all
those other include-cleaning-related issues when porting to a newer gcc
version, see build logs[1].

 1. https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=fmitsuite=unstable

Thanks for considering.

Bug#530544: Failed to get EDID for display

2009-08-20 Thread Heikki Kantola
Package: fglrx-driver
Version: 1:9-8-1
Severity: normal

Since 9-7 release I have been hit by this (or some related) bug. I run
Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 with a dual head setup and now on the primary
head (DVI output) fglrx-driver fails to get EDID information (even if I
disable EDID usage in xorg.conf!) and now uses only awful low resolutions
(1024x768 is such on a 24 monitor capable of 1920x1200), which makes
using this screen quite miserable. Surprisingly secondary head (HDMI
output) uses the correct resolution, but I guess it might be the driver
uses only Mode2-xorg.conf-option to determine the resolution to be used
for this display.

Bug#541105: xorg: Xorg CPU useage 50%

2009-08-20 Thread Brice Goglin
Ben Whyte wrote:
 Package: xorg
 Version: 1:7.4+3
 Severity: important

When starting up my xserver, xorg is using 505 of CPU whilst idling
causes slow performance and responsiveness in system.

I have an Intel i915 graphics card I believe.

Assuming you're using xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.8.0 from sid, please
try upgrading your kernel to 2.6.31 (or 2.6.30 not bigmem) since UXA
will not work on your kernel.

Some 2.6.31-rc6 kernel packages are available at

http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/pool/main/l/linux-2.6/
the one you want there might be

linux-image-2.6.31-rc6-686-bigmem_2.6.31~rc6-1~experimental.1~snapshot.14136_i386.deb

Otherwise, please send the whole output of
/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 31

Bug#542196: mc: Pressing Enter on executables does not execute

2009-08-20 Thread Andreas Tille

On Wed, 19 Aug 2009, Denis Briand wrote:

Thank you for your bug report.
Patrick and me can't reproduce this bug.
What kind of executable file do you want to run?

It is the case with *any* executable for instance such a ...

It works perfectly with my *echo hello world* bash file.

Please, give us, the steps to reproduce it and if possible provide us
your executable test file.

As I said providing the executable does probably not help. It seems
to be the internal mechanism how mc reacts when you press enter on an
executable file. My guess is that mc is internally creating a script
like

cat `mktemp --tmpdir=/tmp/mc-${USER}/ mcextXX` EOT
#!/bin/sh
`pwd`/file_name_to_execute
EOT

and then executes this script. Starting from the mc version which
just entered testing it strangely prepends a './' in line 2 of this
script. Surely this file does not exist. I have no idea why this
problem happens on *all* my machines for *any* executable file so
hitting Enter on an executable becomes completely useless which
would let consider me to switch back to the older version of mc. :-(

For the other *issue*, please just fill a bug.

Will do so. I just wanted to do a quick check whether this is a known
issue.

One bug number for one issue, it's better for our work, thank you.
Take a few minutes to read that: http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting

Well, there is no need to ask me for RTFM. ;-)

Kind regards

   Andreas.

Bug#541117: xserver-xorg-video-intel: high CPU usage after 2.7.1-1 - 2.8.0-1 upgrade

2009-08-20 Thread Brice Goglin
Andrew Pimlott wrote:
 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
 Version: 2:2.8.0-1
 Severity: important

After upgrading from 2.7.1-1, firefox is terribly slow and causes xorg
to pin the CPU for several seconds when (for example) switching tabs.
 I'm running kernel linux-image-2.6.30-1-686 on a Thinkpad X40. I've
looked through the other bugs, and I don't think my problem matches any
 of them.

I also observe that when I resume from suspend to ram, my background is
corrupt. And I've had a couple crashes. None of this happened with
 2.7.1-1.

 2:2.8.0-2 has the same behavior.

Finding a hint in bug 538283, I tried adding the i915 module with
modeset=1. I made the changes in /etc/modules and
/etc/modprobe.d/local.conf and rebooted. The effect on the text VCs was
obvious, but when I tried to startx, it hung with a blank screen.

According to errors in your log, something's going bad with DRM. Does
this log come from a second X server while another X server was already
using the DRM device?

There must be some way to tell the user what do to, such as recommending

Bug#540668: man-db: manpath ordering has no effect, contrary to documentation

The manpath indeed lists it first:

there are two manpages named AE:

/opt/man/man3/AE.3.gz

 3perl 2 1 n l 8 5 4 9 6 7

All this would indicate that man AE should display the first manpage
(section 3 comes before 3pm, /opt comes before /usr/local), yet man AE
 display the /usr/local page first.

Your debug output shows that /opt/man/man3/AE.3.gz is a symlink to
/opt/perl/man/man3/AE.3.gz, which suggests that this bug is a duplicate
of #384301, fixed in 2.5.4. I don't suppose you could try man-db 2.5.5-3
in testing and see if that fixes it for you?

Thanks,

On entering X and using applications for a short period X locks up and the
keyboard becomes unusable. The mouse continues to move but clicks are not
 responded too.

The only solution is to log in remotely using ssh and reboot.

865G support is severely broken unfortunately. It was supposed to
improve when disabling render acceleration in driver 2.8.0-2 but it
still miserably fails on my machine. I had to downgrade to 2.7.1 without
UXA to get something to work.

Bugs #527349 and #540077 might have to be reopen, we'll see if their
submitters complain.

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

It needs tweak for configure.ac/configure.
Please apply patch bellow and rerun autoconf.

Also the network-manager is available only on linux,
please for Build-Depends use

network-manager-dev [!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386],

Thanks in advance

The register dump of locked up graphics attached.

At the time of lockup I was browsing the web with firefox and the cursor
would move but nothing else would update, including keyboard leds.

The dmesg scanning by whatever generates these reportbug mesages is
 insufficeint.

There are some messages about locked up tasks in i915 that might be
 related.

You probably want to send this kind of low-level debugging information
to bugzilla.freedesktop.org or the intel-gfx mailing list directly.

Sorry, but I don’t understand your report. What is this symlink? What is
the directory it is pointing to? Is it already mounted or are you trying
to mount it this way?

This means that programs using nautilus, like evolution and icewaesel
 cannot save files there! The version in stable/lenny (2.20.0-7) worked OK;
 what has changed??

The VFS has been entirely rewritten. Nothing too important.

I noticed late last week, after restarting gdm, that one of
my monitors is no longer being used. I use unstable and
update daily, but I don't always log off at the end of the
day, and so I don't know which day's update caused this
 problem.

Any idea if you had xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.7.1 before the upgrade?
You can try downgrading using packages from

Bug#542196: [Pkg-mc-devel] Bug#542196: mc: Pressing Enter on executables does not execute

2009-08-20 Thread Patrick Winnertz
Hey Andreas! :)

It is the case with *any* executable for instance such a ...

Would you mind to send me your .mc folder as .tar.gz in private? Then I
can try to reproduce this with your settings. Using my settings there
is no error at all.. I can execute every executable I want.

As I said providing the executable does probably not help. It seems
to be the internal mechanism how mc reacts when you press enter on an
executable file. My guess is that mc is internally creating a script
 like

 cat `mktemp --tmpdir=/tmp/mc-${USER}/ mcextXX` EOT
 #!/bin/sh
 `pwd`/file_name_to_execute
 EOT
Mh... to be honest mc only really execute it as ./$exec on the shell.

Will do so. I just wanted to do a quick check whether this is a known
 issue.
No.. not really. We also tried on the upstream site to reproduce this
issue but we all (8 guys) failed to reproduce this.

If you could give us some more hints how to reproduce this, this would
really help us.

Well, there is no need to ask me for RTFM. ;-)
Sorry for that ;-)

Please update the version of drm-snapshot in experimental to something
that's actually more recent than the released version in
unstable/testing. :) Also please include libdrm-radeon to facilitate
building a KMS enabled radeon X server.

(Discussed with lamby on IRC; Eric added to CC because I believe he's
interested in the same thing from his posts to debian-x.)

 Thanks,
 J.

Unfortunately, this will not be sufficient as you will need update X
server snapshot too. The git code for the radeon driver does not compile
because of changes in dri2.h.

For the record, starting from yesterday git nouveau driver does not
build either because of changes required also in X server dev files.

2009-08-20 Thread debian-bugs-2007
Sorry for the late reponse. Unfortunately the driver needed to be stripped,
since we can't legally distribute the firmware.

OK thanks, I understand that.

Just to be clear, this bug (430017) was raised to report a fault in
the sound driver (as per subject), not that it was subsequently
dropped from Debian.

I'd be happy to help test any fix if/when it becomes available.

Thanks.

Bug#534873: would be nice if nvidia-glx-ia32 185.18.14-2 amd64 could be in testing as soon as possible

2009-08-20 Thread Pierre Bauduin
Package: nvidia-glx-ia32
Severity: serious

Hi there,

I'm running Debian testing squeeze on amd64.
Applications that need 32-bit nvidia acceleration (like for instance World
of Warcraft in wine) no longer start.

It appears the solution is to install nvidia-glx-ia32 185.18.14-2 amd64.
nvidia-glx-ia32 185.18.14-2 amd64 is available in Debian unstable sid, but
it still is not available in Debian testing squeeze.

Trying to find out why it was not in testing yet, I looked at this page:
http://release.debian.org/migration/testing.pl?package=nvidia-glx-ia32
... but that page doesn't explain why nvidia-glx-ia32 185.18.14-2 amd64 is
not in testing yet, probably because nvidia-glx-ia32 is in non-free.

I tried what Edwin Török suggested. I don't have /emul anymore, it was
removed two days ago. I did dpkg-deb -X
nvidia-glx-ia32_185.18.14-2_amd64.deb, and then I copied the files
libGL.so.185.18.14, libGLcore.so.185.18.14, libnvidia-tls.so.185.18.14 to
/usr/lib32/ and I created the symlinks. Note that I can't find
libcuda.so.185.18.14.

Alas, applications that need 32-bit nvidia acceleration still don't start.

It would be nice if nvidia-glx-ia32 185.18.14-2 amd64 could be in testing as
soon as possible :)

Thank you,

Bug#542467: [PATCH] Fix the parsing of gpg output.

2009-08-20 Thread Matthijs Kooijman
Previously, the final entry (packet) in a key would be wrongly
attributed to the next key in the output, except for the final entry in
the keyring, which would be attributed correctly.

Since this happened consistently, the diff would not be influenced much
as long as the keys remained in the same order. However, when adding a
key, the final entry in the keyring changes, causing one bogus change to
appear in the diff output.

This commit slightly restructures the parsing function to push out a
previous packet before changing the current key id. It also adds a few
comments.

So I'll try to inject the backup I made and will seek for the config
file responsible for the problem and will keep you informed.

cat `mktemp --tmpdir=/tmp/mc-${USER}/ mcextXX` EOT
#!/bin/sh
`pwd`/file_name_to_execute
EOT

Mh... to be honest mc only really execute it as ./$exec on the shell.

This is what I expected as well - but the string on the console
seems to support my assumption. Perhaps there is a config option
which by chance triggered the behaviour I was guessing above.

Will do so. I just wanted to do a quick check whether this is a known
issue.

No.. not really. We also tried on the upstream site to reproduce this
issue but we all (8 guys) failed to reproduce this.

I seem to have a tendency to trigger strange bugs in programms. A
friend of mine on the physics department had developed this skill to
a real masterhood - he was able to trigger a bug in nearly any
program and we used to ask him to serve as guinea pig user for
own written software ... ;-)

If you could give us some more hints how to reproduce this, this would
really help us.

After having deleted the ~/.mc directory it appeared only once and
now it vanished. Whatever it might have been - I do not really care
any more if it happens only the first time.

Well, there is no need to ask me for RTFM. ;-)

Sorry for that ;-)

No problem. ;-))

I'll come up with further information later

  Andreas.

Bug#542451: nautilus: Nautilus displays an empty folder for an afs-mounted symlink

No user or group ID has changes, I just upgraded from lenny to squeeze.

Sorry, but I don’t understand your report. What is this symlink? What is
the directory it is pointing to? Is it already mounted or are you trying
 to mount it this way?

The afs directory has been mounted already. Everything works as expected
from a terminal. It does not in Nautilus, however, with the graphic interface.
Checking the properties shows that it is a symlink:

Name: afs_srs
Type: Link to folder (inode/directory)
Link target: /afs/.../srs
Contents: nothing

Location: /home/srs
Volume: Unknown

Free space: 8.6 GB

$ echo $HOME
/home/srs
$ pwd
/home/srs
$ ls -l afs_srs
afs_srs - /afs/.../srs/

Other symlinks works in Nautilus, like a link from $HOME/directory to
$HOME/Desktop, the contents are shown properly.

The following warning is issued when running nautilus:
** (nautilus:26516): WARNING **: Unable to add monitor: Operation not
supported

Is this related to my problem?

This means that programs using nautilus, like evolution and iceweasel
  cannot save files there! The version in stable/lenny (2.20.0-7) worked OK;
  what has changed??

The VFS has been entirely rewritten. Nothing too important.

Bug#542575: defoma: please provide a debhelper sequence addon

Package: defoma
Version: 0.11.10-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

please provide a debhelper sequence addon in the defoma package. This
would make it possible to build font packages with the following tiny
debian/rules file making use of the latest debhelper features:

#!/usr/bin/make -f
%:
dh --with defoma $@

The attached file needs to get installed into
/usr/share/perl5/Debian/Debhelper/Sequence/ in order to make this
feature available. It does nothing more than run dh_defoma right after
dh_install, which should be all that's necessary for font packages
with respect to debhelper calls.

Cheers,
Fabian

Bug#477060: news concerning the amslatex license

What we could do, if it would help, is add a 00LICENSE file to the
current distribution that contains the new license, an explanation of
the situation, and a statement that this supersedes the one in the
individual files. I suspect that strictly speaking this is legally
dicey, but it would certainly make our intentions clear.

I think Debian has usually accepted such statements, even as the final
action. Not if they say we intend to contact all copyright holders,
but if the say we have confirmed with all copyright holders
 (explicitly or implicitly).

I've asked the AMS for the 00LICENSE file for the current distribution
and will forward any news I'll receive.

It seems you did not (to quote myself) Do a fresh installation of

The last part is crucial to be able to reproduce this bug. Please make
sure that in the step Software selection you keep the option Desktop
 environment selected.
When I left out this selection I also could not reproduce the bug.

This bug is really getting stranger every day. How can the software
selection outside of the chroot trigger an issue like that?!

Regards thank you for your efforts

Does CUPS-PDF 2.5.0-7 solves this issue for you?

Bug#542551: linux-image-2.6.30-1-686: System lockup (kernel freeze, soft lockup) on dual (multi) processor since 2.6.30

2009-08-20 Thread wylda
Package: linux-image-2.6.30-1-686
Version: 2.6.30-6
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

System lockups (kernel freeze, soft lockup) on dual (multi)
processor since 2.6.30 and confirmed kernels are:

* 2.6.30
* 2.6.30.1
* 2.6.30.2
* 2.6.30.3
* 2.6.30.4
* 2.6.30.5
* 2.6.31-rc6

And there is really _high_ probability, that everything in
between 2.6.30.5 and 2.6.31-rc6 is affected. Debian's
linux-image-2.6.30-1-686 is affected too.

Affected systems:

* Dual Pentim 2 (Pentium II)
* Dual Pentim 3 (Pentium III)
* Dual Pentium Pro (PPro)
* Dual Athlon MP

This bug is bisected and traced at:
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13933

Even though this bug is still present and so other Debian
users can be affected. If this refers to you, share yours
_NEW_ information (not described earlier) at

Bug#542392: azureus: Refuses to start

Adrian Perez wrote:

You don't need to do the extra steps (although they don't hurt
at all), you need to investigate is your JAVA_HOME is
persistant, then who's setting it. Check your ~/.bash* files,
 /etc/bash.bashrc, the like, you know.

Yes!! It was set in /etc/profile. I must have put it in there
myself, but cannot remember why or when. After I commented it out,
the new azureus worked perfectly.

Perhaps a warning about this in README.Debian would be good idea:
Make sure that you don't have JAVA_HOME or JAVA_CMD environment
variables defined, otherwise the new version of Azureus may FAIL.
Check by means of env | grep JAVA . Or something.

Thanks very much, Jan

It seems that when the Packages has 24791 packages in it,
 edos-debcheck says there are 24792.

Version 1.0-8 and probably earlier versions) did that, but 1.0-9
is just a transitional package that pulls in edos-distcheck, and the
/usr/bin/edos-debcheck provided by edos-distcheck does not have this
bug (in fact, it doesn't indicate at all the number of packages).

This is a minor bug in a source-package that is no longer in unstable,
sorry but I won't fix that.

I'm quite certain it was a mistake.

There reason I'm wondering is that that capability was turned of for all

Bug#542582: UMTS setup is a red herring, /dev/noz0 not shown

2009-08-20 Thread Daniel Pocock

Package: network-manager

I have an Option GlobeTrotter 3G+ HSDPA data card in the PC card slot.
It works with the nozomi driver in the 2.6.26 kernel package.

When the card is present, the driver creates /dev/noz[0-3]

It all works perfectly when I manually configure a peer in
/etc/ppp/peers and /etc/chatscripts and dial from the command line (pppd
call myisp)

Today, I thought I would try the same thing from network-manager.

I tried the following, which would seem to be the intuitive approach for
most admins:

1. Gnome menu bar at top of screen, click `System' - `Administration'
- `Network'

2. In the `Connections' tab, click `Point-to-point', and click the
`Properties' button

3. Click `Enable this connection', and choose UMTS

4. Enter the ISP settings (in my case, Vodafone UK, settings are
internet/web/web)

5. Click the `Modem' tab. In this tab, /dev/noz0 is NOT listed, but I
type it in manually.

6. Click the `Options' tab - the options for `default route' and `name
servers' are NOT selected by default and must be selected.

7. Click OK

At this stage, there is now a tick next to Point-to-point, it appears
that the settings are configured, but there is no way to activate the
connection, even after clicking OK and even restarting the box. After
restarting, the settings have all disappeared.

I then looked at README.Debian, which suggests manually declaring ppp0
in /etc/network/interfaces

Therefore, the whole UMTS setup phase in the admin utility appears to be
a red herring. Have I missed some important step, or is this
functionality just not complete yet?

If the ppp/UMTS section of the admin tool is not meant to be used, maybe
it should be disabled in the Debian binaries, so that people won't waste
time there.

If I have missed some really important step, maybe some warning messages
are needed to help the admin use the tool correctly?

Bug#542451: nautilus: Nautilus displays an empty folder for an afs-mounted symlink

Sorry, but I don’t understand your report. What is this symlink? What is
the directory it is pointing to? Is it already mounted or are you trying
  to mount it this way?

The afs directory has been mounted already. Everything works as expected
from a terminal. It does not in Nautilus, however, with the graphic interface.
Checking the properties shows that it is a symlink:

 Name: afs_srs
 Type: Link to folder (inode/directory)
 Link target: /afs/.../srs
 Contents: nothing

What is the output of the following commands?
gvfs-info afs_srs
gvfs-info /afs/.../srs
gvfs-ls -l /afs/.../srs

The following warning is issued when running nautilus:
** (nautilus:26516): WARNING **: Unable to add monitor: Operation not
 supported

Is this related to my problem?

It is related, but nautilus should be able to show the contents of the
directory even without monitoring it.

Bug#542550: maven2: Crash after upgrading to latest plexus libs

2009-08-20 Thread Stefan =?UTF-8?Q?H=C3=BCbner
Hi Ludovic,

I'm on testing and just did a dist-upgrade to catch all the current
package versions. Maven 2.2.0 is not in testing yet, it's still in unstable
repo. So, if Maven is that sensitive to its dependencies, those should
be nailed down in maven2 package, shouldn't they?

 Hello Stefan,

You need to upgrade Maven as well, the current version in the repository

Bug#542511: maven-debian-helper: mh_lspoms fails with IOException: Cannot run program

2009-08-20 Thread Ludovic Claude
Hello Damien,

The root cause here is that org.apache.mina:build:1.1.7 is not available
in the /usr/share/maven-repo repository. So you will need first to add
the Maven packaging for this artifact.

I will add apt-file to Recommends, that sounds like something I have
forgotten.

As far as I've seen it, the problem is VLAN-related. It occurs if
I enable some VLANs on the interface. These VLANs are used by test boxes
(a lot of embedded linuxes with various software onboard), so it is hard
to predict what do they send to the net because of software and hardware
  errors.

Currently, I've disabled VLANs (they are not really necessary on that
  computer),
  and there are no problems...

Do some of your embedded devices use big endian byte order? It suspect your
issue is fixed by the following commit:
 http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=b9389796fa4c87fbdff33816e317cdae5f36dd0b

I'm afraid I do not understand your idea. Some embedded devices are
big endian, but the device with sky2 driver is little-endian (amd64,
Intel Core Duo, just usual desktop).
As far as I can see from the comments to the commit above, the patch
fixes sky2 driver when it works with big endian host, which is not the
case.

Bug#542584: [checks/manpages] false positives for some man pages?

2009-08-20 Thread Michal Čihař
Package: lintian
Version: 2.2.14
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi

I'm not sure how to debug this issue, but lintian is complaining about
some errors in man pages, where I'm unable to get same errors from man.

The problematic thing is line adjustment:

W: rpm: manpage-has-errors-from-man usr/share/man/man8/rpmbuild.8.gz 85:
warning [p 2, 0.0i]: cannot adjust line

I've added patch to add \: at several places, what should ensure that
groff is able to adjust he line and it actually is able, but I still get
the warning from lintian even though man does not complain anymore:

$ LANG=C man --warnings -l /usr/share/man/man8/rpmbuild.8.gz /dev/null
$

There must be some difference how lintian does the man page checks,
which makes it warn in cases when it probably should not.

The questioned man page is attached to this bug report or in package rpm
in case you want to test it.

Bug#542586: pidgin: Security update 2.4.3-lenny3 not installable [amd64]

2009-08-20 Thread Johannes Röhl
Package: pidgin
Version: 2.4.3-4lenny3
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

The security update 2.4.3-lenny3 is not installable on amd64, because of unmet
dependencies:
libdbus-glib-1-2 = 0.78
libstartup-notification0 = 0.10
perl =0.10.

According to the package webpage, only amd64 has these high dependencies, so
maybe just a clean rebuild is required to solve this issue (?!).

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it).  Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
 earliest.

Packages are never removed from testing by hand.  Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
 problems.

Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System.  Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
 was superseded by another one.

Hi,

this mail just came in. I assume you are not planing to start developing
gnometab again? Do you know of any active users that would be interested
in getting the package back in shape? If not, I will have to remove it
from Debian soon...

Package: gnometab
Version: 0.7.4-9
Severity: important
User: pkg-gnome-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: oldlibs libgnomeprint

Hi,

gnometab currently still uses libgnomeprint. However, libgnomeprint
and libgnomeprintui are going to be soon deprecated upstream. The
GtkPrint replacement (built in GTK+ itself) has been available for 3
years.

I’d like to remove libgnomeprint packages before the squeeze
release. This can only be done by getting rid of as much as possible
of the reverse dependencies.

Note that some of these packages already include GtkPrint support,
but you have to select it at compile time. Otherwise, please consider
porting to the much more modern Cairo/GtkPrint API.

As for bindings, they don’t have any reverse dependencies except
for the Python ones, so they should simply be removed ASAP.

Thanks,

Bug#402340: browser support not working on upgrading from eclise 3.1.2 to eclipse 3.2.1

2009-08-20 Thread Kiss Karoly
Package: eclipse
Version: 3.4.1-1
Severity: normal

Looking at /usr/bin/eclipse line 132-135 shows:

MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=${MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME%*/}
if false [ -n $MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME -a -e
$MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME/libgtkembedmoz.so ]; then
:
elif [ -e /usr/lib/mozilla/libgtkembedmoz.so ]; then
-- SNIP -

The problem is that having a conditional false something always gives a
false result.
The developer probably intended false || something.
That way simply exporting MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME in a shell before starting eclipse
would enable
the user to specify the location of the libgtkembedmoz.so he would like to use.

Right, because there was a regular syslog message in between.
Afaik, the mark messages work this way:
Whenever you receive a regular syslog message (doesn't matter into
 which log
file they go), the mark counter is reset.
So only if you do not receive any regular syslog messages, you get
 mark messages
in a regular 20 min intervall.

This is surprising, because there is the hddtemp daemon that writes
every minute in the file syslog, but I have marks in the file
 messages.

Seems I was simply wrong with my assumption.
I just checked the code in immark.c and when enabled it injects a MARK
 message
 after each iMarkMessagePeriod unconditionally.

Rainer, any ideas why sometimes MARK messages are not written?

Anyway, I reopened the bug report until we know more.

I have now reviewed the code. My initial posting was correct, rsyslog works
as intended. While immark generates mark messages at fixed intervals, the
action processor removes them if the action was recently enough called (see
action.c, ln. 1189, current master branch). This handling is so that a local
perception of recently called is kept on a per-action basis. This stems
back to sysklogd, but I also think it is the correct way to handle the
situation. As such, it is not important if any *other* action was called
within that interval, it is only important if the action itself was called
(or not) within the interval.

I would probably fairly easy to add an option to *always* write mark messages
if there is a real need for such. As of rsyslog policies, that will probably
only go into v5 (maybe v4, but definitely not v3).

Please let me know your thoughts.

Rainer

Bug#542591: kdebase-workspace: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD

2009-08-20 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: kdebase-workspace
Version: 4:4.3.0-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

It needs changes to debian packaging and tweaks for sources.
Please find attached two patches with them.

The debian packaging part excludes linux only packages from
build-depends and adds kfreebsd only build-depends (libdevstat-dev)
and adds corresponding install file.

The sources part is mainly

-#if defined(__FreeBSD__)
+#if defined(__FreeBSD__) || defined(__FreeBSD_kernel__)

and

-#if __FreeBSD_version = 500015
+#if (__FreeBSD_version  500015) || (__FreeBSD_kernel_version  500015)

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream
to include changes from kdebase-workspace-src.diff.

Thanks in advance

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

hmm, maybe I can abuse your knowledge with compilers for this one :)

The reason for tying the compiler versions so strict is that Octave adds
the FLIBS (Fortran) found at configure time into one of its scripts for
later use (building plugins, either in Debian or on the enduser's
  machine).

  FLIBS looks like this:
-L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.3.2
-L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib -L/lib/../lib
-L/usr/lib/../lib -L/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../.. -lhdf5
-lz -lgfortranbegin -lgfortran -lm

Do you know if it's possible to get rid of the version specific compiler
paths here? The macro is the default AC_F77_LIBRARY_LDFLAGS.

On debian (at least), you can get rid of the subminor version (ie using
4.3 instead of 4.3.2), as the gcc packages are providing the symlinks
for that. It should probably be possible to use a regular expression to
remove the subminor version from this path.

Both on Ubuntu and on a Debian system, these links were found to be
not there (no, I don't know why).

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/octave3.0/+bug/348472

Anyway, I'll try to get rid of these paths completely.

Thanks
Thomas

Bug#542590: Could avoid unnecessary download of pdiffs

2009-08-20 Thread Frans Pop
Package: debmirror
Version: 20090807
Severity: minor

Debmirror could be smarter in its use of pdiffs. Currently it always
downloads all of them, and that's fine with --pdiff=mirror.

But with --pdiff=use it only really needs to download those diffs that are
needed to update the current Packages/Sources file, and if we don't yet
have a Packages/Sources file is does not need to download any.

Bug#542562: libgnome2-print-perl: uses libgnomeprint which is scheduled for removal

2009-08-20 Thread Damyan Ivanov

 Package: libgnome2-print-perl
 Version: 1.000-1
 Severity: important

libgnome2-print-perl currently still uses libgnomeprint. However,
libgnomeprint and libgnomeprintui are going to be soon deprecated
upstream. The GtkPrint replacement (built in GTK+ itself) has been
 available for 3 years.

I???d like to remove libgnomeprint packages before the squeeze
release. This can only be done by getting rid of as much as possible
 of the reverse dependencies.

Note that some of these packages already include GtkPrint support,
but you have to select it at compile time. Otherwise, please consider
porting to the much more modern Cairo/GtkPrint API.

There is no mention of GtkPrint in the sources, so I guess
Gnome2::Print is not ready to use that. It appears GtkPrint is
available via Gtk2 module (libgtk2-perl).

As for bindings, they don???t have any reverse dependencies except
for the Python ones, so they should simply be removed ASAP.

Shall we remove libgnome2-print-perl from the archive? The popcon
rating doesn't seem particularly high:

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

The linuxvnc package is linux only, it is correctly marked
in debian/control, but there have to be corresponding change
in debian/rules. Please just add -s as argument to dh,

Thanks in advance

The vlna program is missing from the texlive-lang-czechslovak package,
even though it is explicitly mentioned as included in the description.

Hm, according to the tpm information, only the manpages should be in
texlive-lang-czechoslovak. The program itself is compiled and should
therefore be in the texlive-bin source package.

The sources are indeed there, but they are not compiled. This looks to
me like an upstream error.

Norbert, any ideas?

So, it has nothing to do with the symlink, but the with the target

Does the gvfsd process print any warnings?

Please see my email to Russ.

I've seen it and agree with this.

The next bit would be writing the update-inetd replacement (which
could just be part of the existing update-inetd, used when called
with no arguments, and/or run on every invocation). If called with
arguments, it will work as usual; the old code would be removed
after the transition is done so it just does nothing, or emits
  a warning.

I'd prefer something more explicit: maintain update-inetd as is, and add
update-inetd-ng. (Also, because I'd rather write the new functionality in
python. I like perl but I'm more confident with python).

I'm not sure if update-inetd is still pulled into base installs, but
it may well drag in python into default installs, which will bloat
its size somewhat. For this reason, I would prefer to stick with
perl, but it's your choice.

Since xinetd already has the parsing code, it might be worth looking
at that as a starting point (xinetd/confparse.c, I think).

I've filed an ITA for update-inetd (#472470). Short-term action plan:

 - prepare a release to take ownership of the package and fix some major bugs
   (sponsorship anyone?)
 - write and document update-inetd-ng
 - provide migration guidelines and modify packages to use both scripts

Sounds good. inetd-base might be a slightly better name, since it's
something all the inetd implementations will depend upon (but packages
/providing/ inetd fragments won't need to, since the TTBOMK file
triggers happen transparently). This will mean these packages won't
need to do anything except provide the config fragment. I'm not sure
if any additional steps would need to be taken on removal, e.g. if
the service should be stopped in prerm.

Regards,
Roger

Bug#541177: GIT access update

2009-08-20 Thread Philip Ashmore

Hi there.

For historical accuracy I'm posting this update to how to access the GIT
repository.
This is necessary as SourceForge have included multiple-repository-support per
project,
requiring a change to the path used.

   git-clone git://v3c.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/v3c/v3c
   cd v3c
   make git tag=1.0.3 check
or
   make git tag=1.0.3.2 debug check
for a more recent version.

If you've already cloned the repo then edit .git/config - [remote
origin]-url and append /v3c
You may also need to update .git/FETCH_HEAD as well.

Like I said earlier, this bug is closed.

Regards,
Philip

Bug#539739: AW: Bug#539739: rsyslog: The marks (-- MARK --) are not always written

2009-08-20 Thread Frédéric Massot
Rainer Gerhards a écrit :
[...]

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

To use the watchdog package and the settings file and change it is
really important that the marks are written every 20 minutes.

And as we are in a context of a server restart automatically in case of
problems, I think the marks must always be written. That way if the
server is restarted because of an unwritten marks is that there was
really a problem and not a decision of rsyslog. :o)

It's really interesting to use the watchdog package to have an option to
have the marks are always written.

Regards.
