Bug#509712: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the arcboot package

2009-12-21 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of arcboot and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the arcboot Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four
days, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs da de es eu fr it ja nb nl pl pt pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the arcboot package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Sunday, December 27,
2009. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Monday, December 21, 2009 : send this notice
Sunday, December 27, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Monday, December 28, 2009 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Monday, January 04, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Yes, it can be that deep the issue, but I confess that I'm more

current fix is a good one in the meantime, though.

 Thanks again for the NMU!

In the meantime, I got the real issue: you are assuming the time offset

When doing Date(0), what you are doing is getting the date at 0 seconds
after the first of january, 1970, midnight. Guess what time offset was
used at that date ? You would assume GMT, right ? Wrong:

RoSPA suggest this would reduce the number of accidents over this

Yes, 1 January 1970 0:0:0 was GMT+1.

This means Iceweasel and Konqueror are right. And all the others are
wrong.

Piwigo is a photo gallery software for the web, built by an active community

  Features:
   - localization in english, french, german, spanish, italian, nederlands,
 portuguese, ...
   - tags
   - permissions on photos and categories
   - virtual category allowing picture to be in multiple categories
   - meaningful URLs
   - user comments and rating
   - use of iptc and exif metadatas
   - notification of news by email or RSS feed
   - best rated, most view pictures
   - web api allowing requests or administration from other applications.

That's a quite interesting package because I intend to implement such
gallery software soonish. Could you please do some comparison against
ansel1 which is just inside Debian. I'd be interested how both compare
to have some help for the decision which one to use.

Kind regards

Bug#445215: Still slow

2009-12-21 Thread Johan Walles
Even with the egrep memory clearing issue fixed (it was long time
ago), grep still uses up ungodly amounts of CPU time while logcheck is
running. If the above perl hack is the way to go, please implement
it!

Or maybe logcheck is becoming big enough that it shouldn't be in
shellscript any more?

Bug#561868: ITP: piwigo -- photo gallery software for the web

Hi,

thanks for your interest in piwigo.

That's a quite interesting package because I intend to implement such

to have some help for the decision which one to use.

To be honest, I didn't know about ansel before you ask for comparaison. I
search for that application. I saw screenshot and features and it looks good
but I didn't find a simple way to install it. Maybe I forgot something.

No reply in months, I've uploaded an NMU which fixes this FTBFS.

a single tweak is needed to get your package built on GNU/kFreeBSD,
which you can find in the attached patch. It pretty much looks like
all those other include-cleaning-related issues when porting to a
newer gcc version, see build logs[1].

I could trigger this FTBFS on a Linux environment, so I guess there
are some tiny architecture-related disparities. Anyway, since exit()
is used, let's just add the include as initially suggested.

Please find attached the source debdiff for my NMU.

I filed a bug before that wasn't really addressed and I found a new bug so
I will include the previous bug in this message as well since they're
 similar bugs.

Previous bug: (GNOME) System -- Preferences -- Keyboard Shortcuts then
when I attempt to assign either one of my super user keys to the Open a
terminal window shortcut. I tried this in Ubuntu 9.10 as well (which uses
GNOME 2.28 like Squeeze) and it doesn't work there either. I tried on two
different computers. I tested with the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 and
the 64 bit version of Debian Squeeze.

New bug: In any other OS I've used, when a window is in focus and you press
alt and the space bar and then press x for example you can maximize a
window. Given that Ubuntu 9.10 has the same version of GNOME, I tried to
see if the bug existed there as well and it didn't.

If any additional information is needed, do not hesitate to ask.

Hi.

An error occurs even before iceweasel, epiphany, etc. ask for the

downgrading to 3.12.4-1 fixes the problem.

As the files under debian/* use the dot(.) notation, like in:

Perhaps it is better to use similar convention for dh specific

debian/dh.filename

Like in

Bug#508524: lenny - regression - ffmpeg lacks important codecs

2009-12-21 Thread Fabian Greffrath

Am 19.12.2009 01:53, schrieb drbob:

I tried the method as described by hjsalchow but found that whilst it
produced some deb files for me they too had the codecs stripped out. The
debian rules script is crafted to remove the codecs even if you use
get-orig-source.

Yes, debian/rules has to do two things here: Strip the codecs out of
the source tarball (in get-orig-source) and then strip the calling of
these codecs out of the remaining code.

I managed to recompile with the mpeg2 encoder enabled by editing
debian/rules to stop it stripping out the codecs from the original
source. I describe what I did in more detail here:

http://gbdrbob.wordpress.com/2009/12/07/ffmpeg-mpeg2-debian-lenny/

Nice instructions, but: If you set DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS on a separate
command line, you should export them to the environment. This is why I
suggested to set them on the same line as the calls to fakeroot
debian/rules resp. dpkg-buildpackage.

Regarding the problem with the package version remaining the same, you
can add a new revision number by running e.g. dch --nmu or similar.

I'm sure there must be a more elegant way to do this but it worked for
me. Hope this helps those who need mpeg2 and don't want to use packages
from unstable on their system.

No, there isn't! Rebuilding the Debian packages to achieve extra
codecs is completely unsupported. We introduced the internalencoders
options just for convenience reasons.

Cheers,
Fabian

Bug#561885: perdition: SSL (port 993 and 995) connections don't timeout

2009-12-21 Thread Russell Coker
On Mon, 21 Dec 2009, Simon Horman ho...@verge.net.au wrote:
I'm quite happy to consider replacing openssl with GNUTLS.
Although I don't know if it would solve the problem at hand
nor how many bonus problems it might create.

My past experience is that converting from OpenSSL to GNUTLS is not THAT
difficult, but maintaining a code base to support both via autoconf is quite
painful. But I haven't done anything as intense as you in this regard.

http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/95399/functions/setsockopt.html

The above URL documents how to use the SO_RCVTIMEO and SO_SNDTIMEO options of
setsockopt().

http://74.125.153.132/search?q=cache:rEDEp2tvku8J:article.gmane.org/gmane.network.gnutls.general/227+GNUTLS_E_AGAIN+timeoutcd=9hl=enct=clnk

The above URL states that the way to set timeouts on the GNUTLS handshake (and
presumably other GNUTLS library calls) is to use setsockopt().

I expect that you can use setsockopt() with OpenSSL too. While it's pretty
stupid to not have a simple timeout parameter for a function call such as the
ones we are discussing, it would be totally stupid to have no way at all of
specifying a timeout other than SIGALRM.

I still think that the variable is correctly used as a const char *:
It's used once as the first argument to strchr(), which, according to
POSIX, is a const char * and once as the only argument to string(),
which, according to the [C++ reference], accepts a const char * as
 well.

That's not the problem, there's two though, strchr returns a pointer
inside the string argument (arguably strchr should have a return type
of ‘const char *’, which would not have allowed this to happen in the
first place), that argument might later on get modified if not NULL, by
setting its contents to the NUL charater, or when it gets passed to
setOptions which takes ‘char *’.

I think ideally getProjection and setOptions would take a ‘const char *’,
and duplicate the string locally if the need to modify it, as one might
want to pass a literal string which would also fail, or might not want
the caller to get stuff modified, but this is not a problem for the
current code base.

guillem

Hello,

I am attaching a patch that uses convert (from ImageMagick) to allow the
use of arbitrary images as the grub background. In particular it resizes
the image to the desired GRUB_GFXMODE and sets the pixel depth to 8-bit.
Although this would necessitate an extra dependency, it seems to me it
would also fix bugs #560978, #495282 and #539963

  Now, if i run:

  snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 127.0.0.1 system

Basically i get the same error.

Please hav a look at /etc/snmp/snmp.conf and remove the line mibs :.

What the hell does a bug in gpsd udev rules have to do with this
problem?

The bugreport concerns warning messages early in the bootup process not
getting saved.

By now it has been established that those messages are generated by
udev, which is invoked by the initial ramdisk.

Cursing won't make this bug go away.

Demanding the original reporter of the bug to be more clueful is a lousy
approach to solve it, IMHO.

Hi,

Sorry, the previous patch didn't check for a failure to load the new
database, and also always loaded a new database even when it didn't need
to. Better patch attached now.

This package is very simple to maintain and very close to zero effort.
It currently needs a rebuild to increase the standards version but

With teh current tag, it's an RFA (request for adoption) that mark the
your request for someone to take over the package while you still

Bug#561924: gdb: FTBFS on kfreebsd-amd64 with 8.x kernel headers

2009-12-21 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: gdb
Version: 7.0-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD with 8.x kernel
headers.

The FreeBSD 8.0 kernel does not have segment registers in pcb anymore.
To solve current FTBFS please just use patch bellow.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Bug#561926: rebuildd: Suggests invalid build_cmd

2009-12-21 Thread Karl Goetz
Package: rebuildd
Version: 0.3.4
Severity: normal

Hi,
rebuildd-init-build-system suggests you make sure your building with
build_cmd = pbuilder build --basetgz /var/cache/pbuilder/%s-%s.tgz
%s_%s.dsc
This is at odds with whats already there:
build_cmd = pbuilder build --basetgz /var/cache/pbuilder/${d}-${a}.tgz
${p}_${v}.dsc

Perhaps this string should be updated to use the same format as the existing
config file.

thanks,
kk

Bug#559143: SOLR 1.4 debian packaging

2009-12-21 Thread Thomas Koch
@solr-dev: Could sbd. from upstream help us out with a working tomcat.policy
for solr? For now I just granted all permissions to solr.

Hi Jan-Pascal (et al),

I've uploaded the current state of my packaging effort of SOLR 1.4 to
http://github.com/thkoch2001/pkg-debian-solr
(This is a new repository and not compatible with the one found at the same
place until today)

I still have some things, where I'm stuck, listed in debian/TODO, for your
convenience copied here:

- Review web.xml.
- enable junit tests on build?
- Build javadocs?
- Decide, where dist/apache-solr-dataimporthandler-1.4.0.jar should go:
  - /usr/share/solr/WEB-INF/lib/
  - /usr/share/java
Or should maybe all jars go to /usr/share/java and be symlinked?
- Review debian/tomcat.policy
- Delete obsolete topgit branches from 1.3

And I forgot one todo issue in the file: - test with Jetty

About GIT and topgit:

- upstream tarballs are available from the git repository with pristine-tar

- the git setup is the default one proposed by git-buildpackage. So git-
buildpackage should work on this repository without any configuration

- patches are managed with topgit according to this workflow:
  http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/vcs-pkg-discuss/2009-
December/000688.html

Best regards,

Thomas Koch, http://www.koch.ro

The main problem with that is that if google doesn't do the same thing
depending on the client argument, there may be a reason, one related to
the binding between MoCo and Google related to this service.

I'll try to get in touch with the proper people to have a real answer to
that. That also concerns a lot of other stuff where we already change
iceweasel to firefox, actually.

  result.

I suggest that you run alsamixer -V capture so that you only see the
recording controls. You may need to use a switch, rather than a sliding
control, to boost the recording volume. For example, there may be a
switch to change the input from line-in to microphone mode.

I'm going to close this bug because the original problem is fixed.

 Ben.

Once a job is fouled up, anything done to improve it makes it worse.

Thanks for the suggestion but as I say no new channel appear so the capture
section is empty (by the exception of digital channel).

The original problem was the lack of the channels and that is not fixed. The
only difference is that I can now record with digital but I still need
capture channel (or other one) to increase the volume.
I record with digital on .26 and only by increasing capture volume I can
hear well.

If you believe that I must open a new thread to solve that issue I'll do
that. But I think the problem is the same.

Thanks

Bug#561919: RFA: mrtg-ping-probe

2009-12-21 Thread Jonathan Oxer
Hi Sandro,

With teh current tag, it's an RFA (request for adoption) that mark the
your request for someone to take over the package while you still
maintain it until someone step in. Do you really want to orphan it? if
so, please retitle to O: package name -- short description.

I'll do that after changing the package maintainer to the QA group,
which I'm in the process of doing.

Regards,

 Hi,

Your package embeds source code from expat, which makes
security updates very cumbersome, difficult, and potentially
error-prone. Please update your package to make use of the
shared library. Thank you for your attention on this matter.

 Best wishes,
 Mike

Bug#561927: iceweasel: Can Iceweasel pretend to be Firefox to services such as safebrowsing ?

2009-12-21 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.5.6-1
Severity: serious
Justification: This should be resolved before release

Iceweasel current replaces firefox with iceweasel in various service urls
in configuration. Some other service urls such as safebrowsing have not been
addressed yet, leading to bugs such as #518357.

The question is whether we can have iceweasel pretend to be firefox to such
services, which are related to agreements between MoCo and third parties.

I'm filing this bug to avoid forgetting about this issue, and to track the
investigation as it goes.

The new package depends on libsoup2.4-1 = 2.28.2. That's ok for Debian

Please adjust the dependency.

Bug#561891: Fwd: Bug#561891: Please support sh4

2009-12-21 Thread Martin Steigerwald

Hello Jens,

Can you have a look at the following build fix? It looks reasonable for me.

I hope I will make time to create an update to the package real soon. Have
some discussions with git and maybe pristine-tar to solve tough (merge
conflicts where they shouldn't be any).

If you release with this patch upstream, I will take it from you. Otherwise I
will temporarily include it in the Debian package.

Ciao,
Martin

Hmmm, indeed I do not see a arch-sh.h file in your latest fio 1.36 archive. (I
didn't look before, cause I assumed it was there.)

I truly believe this is a problem with your system, possibly related

I found that the crash occurs as soon as I have installed the Moolight

Bug#561932: aegis: FTBFS on ia64

2009-12-21 Thread Walter Franzini
Package: aegis
Version: 4.24.2-3
Severity: normal

Hi ia64-porters,

aegis-4.24.2-3 FTBFS on mundy because one of the tests fails:

CXX=g++ /bin/sh etc/test.sh -shell /bin/sh -run \
test/01/t0176a.sh test/01/t0176a.ES
mkdir: cannot create directory `/tmp/14921': File exists
NO RESULT for test of aemtu functionality (working directory 119)

Since it is possible that an old run of the build has left behind that
directory, I'd like to receive the output of 'find /tmp/14921 -ls' to
verify if some test script needs to be fixed. Is it possible?

Is it possible to remove the /tmp/14921 directory and reschedule the
build?

Thanks.

I believe it works with the Xen utilities in Squeeze.

Good to hear.

For Lenny you could workaround by downloading the kernel and ramdisk
locally and use the install-kernel= and install-ramdisk= options to
xm-debian.cfg, or if you have a local mirror you could just use
 install-installer=.

Yes. At least this is documented now. :)

Bug#561933: grub-efi-amd64: grub-mkimage fails with error: no symbol table

2009-12-21 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: grub-efi-amd64
Severity: important

Mounting the EFI partition of a MacBook 5,2 onto /boot and then invoking
grub-install fails with the following:

grub-mkimage: error: no symbol table

Running with bash -x reveals that it is the following command that
fails:

/usr/sbin/grub-mkimage --output=/boot/grub/grub.efi fat part_gpt

I suspect that output of above command, even if succeeding, would fail
to work due to not including modules like configfile and linux, but that
is another topic which is hopefully moot when this bug is fixed and I
can move on to actually test it.

Kind regards,

 - Jonas

Yes that is probably true. I tried to find a way to solve this issue
purely within the xm-debian.cfg file which worked with the Lenny tools
but I couldn't find one that didn't leak the downloaded file.

It was always documented at the top of xm-debian.cfg.

No, I don't use KDE (just fvwm2), and gtk-qt-engine isn't even
installed.

I'll try to do a full reinstallation of the extensions in a few days.

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violate

depend on the other package. File diversions or a Replace relation are
 another possibility.
