Bug#572746: libm: sinf/cosf performance is awful on amd64
What do you mean sinf/cosf is supposed to be twice faster ? You're mentionning calling it with bound values ? Thank you. Libm's behavior is not really arch-proof in terms of performance which is a bit confusing (and I would expect 64 bit being better than 32 bits when dealing with maths... :( cosf/sinf is actually twice faster on 64-bit than on 32-bit in normal cases, but can be a lot slower in the cases that concern you. Bug#572966: flexml: should this package be removed?
close 572966 thanks Hey there, You must be kidding, right? This package works just fine and have no bug beside a request for removing someone from uploaders. There's a bunch of requests from lintian about the packaging format, but since the software works just fine (and does so since 3 years), nobody should need to rebuild it anytime soon, so I dont feel the fact that the rules do not follow the lastest stadards as release critical. Moreover, I'm not very active, but I'm not completely MIA: I read debian mails, and react to important matter. Since I use flexml on a daily basis, if something goes wrong with that soft, I'll handle it. Finally, a popcon score of 100 is quite a huge amount given the fact that this is a developer only tool, targeting only C programmer forced to add some XML in their project, but not willing to add a depend on some fancy library. Bug#567617: Acknowledgement (lxpanel - mouse pointing problem)
Hi Klaus, Hi. I just uploaded lxpanel 0.5.5 which content several minor bug fixes. Could you please help to confirm if this problem still exist with the version? Sorry for the late reply. I have not subscribed the list, so I only check periodically the webpage for updates. Yes, the problem still persists! There seem to bee two problems / phenomenas. 1. The panel: I a application window has the focus, only the second mouse click on a launcher will start the application. The first mouse click will sometimes switch the desktop (it seems to me that the desktop is the first one I choose to switch to using the desktop pager). If I perform first a mouse click on the desktop (which will take the fokus from the application), the first click on the launcher will perform as expected and will start the application. Very annoying behavior! 2. The desktop pager in the panel: The first request to switch the desktop using the pager performs as expected. After this first one, further request to change the desktop by performing a mouse click will be ignored or will switch back to the desktop I have chosen by the first request. I hope the description is not to confusing - sorry, I am no native speaker. As this behavior was nerving me, I have switched to XFCE. Bug#568343: git-core: alias in example for not server.com/gitweb/ ie git.server.com is now wrong
Le 07/03/2010 03:27, Jonathan Nieder a écrit : since the change in gitweb to make http://localhost/gitweb/ work out of the box the aliases for /usr/share/gitweb/ stuff are wrong. Could you send a patch for git-core.README.Debian? If Gerrit’s repository mentioned in /usr/share/doc/git-core/README.source is still down, you can use git://repo.or.cz/debian-git.git as a mirror. I suspect something as simple as Alias / /usr/share/gitweb might do the trick in README.Debian, but I have not tried it, so I would be happy to see someone who needs this to work investigating. I do not understand . You tell that : Alias / /usr/share/gitweb should do the trick. But the current situation (broken ) is : Alias /gitweb.css /usr/share/gitweb/gitweb.css Alias /git-favicon.png /usr/share/gitweb/git-favicon.png Alias /git-logo.png /usr/share/gitweb/git-logo.png So exactly the same as the broken situation. For me alising /usr/share/gitweb to / is the same as aliasing /usr/share/gitweb/gitweb.css to /gitweb.css. The fact is that the cgi items points to /gitweb/gitweb.css and smaefor others. So maybe you meant : Alias /gitweb /usr/share/gitweb ? I don't know if this would work and will only test if you ask me so as this is not a lot easier than the three line we had for the three resources in /usr/share/gitweb and there is an index.cgi in this directory that would become readily available from the net while it was not beforehand. I will do a patch as soon as we agreed on the fix. Best regards, Alban -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#572991: This looks like a problem with reporting supported modes to the client
Bjørn Mork wrote: Looking at the list of available modes in the guest showed that there was no 1440x900 anymore, which probably explains why Windows chose another one close by. There were also a number of other expected modes missing. Think I got it. The modes were once added to KVMs local copy of vgabios: http://git.kernel.org/?p=virt/kvm/qemu-kvm.git;a=commitdiff;h=ebfac597cf but never made it upstream or into QEMU. So when you included a copy of the vgabios source from QEMU in the Debian qemu-kvm package, you removed these modes. I'm attaching a patch to be applied on top of debian/patches/vgabios-0.12.3.diff which fixes this problem for me. Thank you very much Bjørn for the excellent bugreport. All bios code were dropped from qemu-kvm in 0.12 for some reason (or without, I dunno), and you're right all the local modifications, useful or not, were lost. I too noticed that the list of video modes available is quite a bit shorter than it used to be, but at that time I were dealing with another bug and didn't pay enough attention to that fact, and it were successfully forgotten. But without your findings it'd be much more difficult to find and fix things. I'm adding the thing to the Debian qemu-kvm git repository now, to be fixed in the next release. By the way, you can just use vgabios from kvm-88 - there were no changes (except of missing bugfixes like you discovered) since that... Bug#546586: xorg: X server lockup in int10 when booting a secondary card
Hello, now some details. As mentioned I did an upgrade and just restarted the system. The configuration is as described in http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2008-October/039421.html and worked with the packages on hold together with the respective latest 2.6.32-kernel (currently 2.6.32-3-686) from unstable w/o problems. The restart with the upgraded packages gave me the GDM login screen. I was able to logon successfully but everything was a bit slow. The reason for this was that *everything* was *simultaneously* on *both* seats! In other words a separate login was not possible any more. Finally both X server froze at some point. I could not find anything at the end of the Xorg*log files but will send them asap. As a next step I left out the first, dummy X server but the effects were just the same. Starting just one X on just one seat with something like 8 -- 8 [server-Standard] name=Standard server command=/usr/bin/X0 -config xorg-X0.conf -layout X0 -audit 0 flexible=true # Multiseat: #command=/usr/bin/X0 -config xorg-X0.conf -layout X0 -audit 0 vt7 -noreset -sharevts -novtswitch #flexible=false 8 -- 8 and reduced xorg.conf works fine for the NV seat, a bit fiddling in the conf seems to be necessary for the ATI seat as it showed poor 2D performance. Can you elaborate on this? I mean both Dovecot and libpam-ssh have an exported function called buffer_free(). libpam-ssh tries to call its own internal buffer_free(), but it ends up calling Dovecot's incompatible buffer_free(), which of course doesn't work and it crashes. Either rename buffer_free() on libpam-ssh's side, or mark it in some way internal to the shared library (I don't know how to do the latter, but I think it's possible). As this bug has been reassigned without a version number the BTS considers all versions to be affected by this, including the version in stable. Given that Erich did report this against the version in unstable I think the buffer_free() function in dovecot might have been added at a later stage (otherwise I would have expected Erich to report it earlier already?). Looking at the 1.0.15 source it seems to be in there too, though. Not sure if the issue also happens in stable, can someone test this? Bug#328692: Debian Bug #328692 and Unicode::Normalize
On Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 12:57:26AM +1100, Craig Small wrote: I'm the maintainer of dh-make and need some help with bug 328692. The problem is that dh_make gets the name of the maintainer and puts it into various template files. Not a problem for most names and most files. However some names, such as ones with umlats etc will choke on manual pages. I have heard that Unicode::Normalize may do what I want, but as I don't really understand what this does, or really much about UTF-8 anyhow I'm not sure. I saw your request for help on Planet Debian. When this bug was originally filed, groff required its input to be in the ISO-8859-1 character set, which typically meant doing special encoding of anything outside that. Since last year, though, we've had groff 1.20, which massively improves Unicode input support so that you can typically just type UTF-8 directly into manual pages. As a result, the edict in policy saying that all characters in a manual page must be representable in the legacy encoding for that language was lifted in debian-policy 3.8.3.0. At this point I think that any mangling in dh-make would do more harm than good. If you just make sure that the author's name is encoded using UTF-8 (which you should be doing already, since policy requires it for changelog and control files, although I haven't checked dh-make's code), you shouldn't need to do any other normalisation beyond that. Certainly, the original bug submitter's name works fine in manual pages now. If you get any bugs in future about non-ASCII author names being handled incorrectly in manual pages, feel free to reassign them over to man-db and I'll investigate them from there. I understand my proposal wasn't that welcome :) This package works just fine and have no bug beside a request for removing someone from uploaders. There's a bunch of requests from lintian about the packaging format, but since the software works just fine (and does so since 3 years), nobody should need to rebuild it anytime soon, so I dont feel the fact that the rules do not follow the lastest stadards as release critical. Well, I disagree here. Of course this is not release critical but if you took the time to actually update the package, you'd see that it makes a few changes. Yes, the code compiles apparently the same way, but two changes are simply managed in the resulting binary: * actually put the examples in there (you just have an empty dir) * doc-base is nowadays organized by triggers which makes the generated maintainer scripts useless I attached what I would change if this were a QA package. After all it's your call and I'm not judging what you do, but from a QA perspective I'd strongly go for a few changes (and if we're at it, do all of them). Moreover, I'm not very active, but I'm not completely MIA: I read debian mails, and react to important matter. Since I use flexml on a daily basis, if something goes wrong with that soft, I'll handle it. Noted. Thanks for clearing that up. Finally, a popcon score of 100 is quite a huge amount given the fact that this is a developer only tool, targeting only C programmer forced to add some XML in their project, but not willing to add a depend on some fancy library. Sorry, I didn't notice this earlier. Popcon is often misleading but it's impossible to by-hand check every single package that exact. :( That is why I'm closing this bug report. Right. Bug#570466: not fixed after all
On Mon, 2010-03-08 at 00:32 +0100, Rémi Letot wrote: Hello, the stability of my laptop was apparently due to a missing firmware file (R600_rlc.bin), which prevented DRI2 to work. Now that I have that file back (I also upgraded to latest 2.6.33 kernel from experimental), I have problems again with KMS/DRI2. However the problem evolved, as my laptop does not completely crash anymore. Only the screen randomly turns blank and doesn't come back. For example, I can still switch to a VT. The screen somehow flickers but remains blank, but I can blindly login and issue commands or reboot. I suspect that my X session is still useable, but of course without knowing where my pointer is, it's quite complicated to prove :-) I logged in through ssh, and X is no longer using 100% CPU. I have no error in syslog or the Xorg log, so it seems that the beast is blind but didn't notice anything unusual. Tell me if I can help further. Bug#378611: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#573016: /etc/init.d/rc - it is not a conffile, but it should be
[Alexander Wirt]: I don't have any idea how to solve this, the bugreport is right that everything in /etc/ should be a conffile - but on the other side /etc/init.d/rc is a little bit special. Well, I do not buy the argument that everything in /etc/ should be a conffile, and /etc/init.d/rc should defnitely not be a conffile. See #132542 for a early BTS report about the same issue. What that is said, my long term plan is to move it to /lib/init/rc, but I have never seen it as important enough to give it priority. (And I still do not see it as important enought to give it priority over all the other things to fix with the boot system and the rest of the tasks I have on my priority list. :) Happy hacking, -- Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#571212: Bug #571212,munin generates graphs correctly but does not generate links
Hi, from your commands I get a perfectly normal log, no errors. I get the usual pair of processing creating page. Then at the end it creates the comparaison pages, the service pages, the group pages etc. It's just that in those pages there are no links to the other pages. Sorry, for security reasons I can't really attach the log file (and obscuring it would take a while). I was trying to compare logs and realized that not only I'm changing architectures, but I'm migrating from 1.2.6 (lenny) to 1.4.3 (squeeze) - any special procedure for this ? Thanks for this debugging. Any other leads ? Bug#571604: patch
I've never used dpatch before, but here goes. I applied the patch with: sudo dpatch-edit-patch dual_devices.dpatch debian/patches/dual_devices.dpatch from the source root, then built the package with: sudo dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot then installed the package. In any case it didn't work. I mean I'm sure it did what it had to do RE: EV_SYN etc. Pretty exasperating! maybe the problem is with something which mouseemu needs to run? Other than that, I'm about to start my study year in earnest and am prepared to re-install squeeze if you reckon it'd be best. Bug#572991: This looks like a problem with reporting supported modes to the client
Michael Tokarev m...@tls.msk.ru writes: Bjørn Mork wrote: The modes were once added to KVMs local copy of vgabios: http://git.kernel.org/?p=virt/kvm/qemu-kvm.git;a=commitdiff;h=ebfac597cf but never made it upstream or into QEMU. I have to correct myself here. The patch has made it upstream http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/vgabios/vbetables-gen.c?root=vgabiosr1=1.4r2=1.5 and is part of the latest release. I'm afraid my primitive approach is not the proper way to fix it. qemu-kvm should depend on vgabios and just install symlinks as qemu does: bj...@nemi:~$ ls -la /usr/share/qemu/vgabios* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2010-01-10 20:31 /usr/share/qemu/vgabios.bin - ../vgabios/vgabios.bin lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 2010-01-10 20:31 /usr/share/qemu/vgabios-cirrus.bin - ../vgabios/vgabios.cirrus.bin Which is bug #489442. Fixing that one will close both bugs. BTW, I think I'm going to propose some variant of my debugging patch to qemu upstream. The Could not open SDL display is rather useless as a fatal error message, given how easy it is to trigger this error with a simple guest (mis)onfiguration. Bug#571458: libeb13 4.4.2-1 changes ABI?
Hello, As you guess, EB Library 4.4.2 sets a wrong shared library version. 15:0:2 is specified in configure.ac, but the correct version is 15:0:0. Thank you for the bug report. I'll release EB Library 4.4.3 to fix the bug. (Its shared library version should be 16:0:0.) I released EB Library 4.4.3. ftp://ftp.sra.co.jp/pub/misc/eb/eb-4.4.3.tar.bz2 -- __ Motoyuki Kasahara m-kas...@sra.co.jp -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#573034: aspell-fr: Synchronise packageing with aspell-en to avoid errors
Package: aspell-fr Version: 0.50-3-7 Severity: normal Tags: patch Please, find attached one big patch, to swith to a packaging which is consistent to aspell-en. Initially, my issue was that debsums failed on some auto-generated files, But I noticed there were many small errors reported by Lintian... So I decided to switch to the same packaging scheme as aspell-en, for easier maintennace in the future. Thr changelog goes like this: [Frank Lin PIAT] * Use packaging rules from aspell-en, to fix multiple issues and Lintian errors: - md5sums list files modiified during installation - W command-with-path-in-maintainer-script - W ancient-standards-version - W debhelper-but-no-misc-depends - W debian-rules-ignores-make-clean-error - W debian-rules-sets-DH_COMPAT - W package-uses-deprecated-debhelper-compat-version * Bump standards to 3.8.4 * Fix compyright file issues: - W copyright-without-copyright-notice - W debian-copyright-file-uses-obsolete-national-encoding * Fix dictionnary error by removing double-dash (to avoir error during installation). * Use quilt for patches If the One big patch model is an issue for you, I could split the patch. Bug#572858: initramfs-tools: Doesn't resume from hibernation, restarts fresh
reassign 572858 base-installer retitle 572858 use lvm name and not UUID for lvm resume partition severity important stop On Mon, Mar 08, 2010 at 06:26:50AM +0100, Julien Valroff wrote: hi, why is there an UUID in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume can you please post: cat /proc/swaps Filename TypeSizeUsedPriority /dev/mapper/gaia-swap_1 partition 9928696 0 -1 thought so, thanks for the post. so it seems that the bug is in d-i base-installer to add an UUID in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume although the device is lvm and thus unique anyway. for your box do as root echo resume=/dev/mapper/gaia-swap_1 /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume and regenerate initramfs with update-initramfs -u -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
