Bug#577612: hadoop: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: hadoop Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Friday, March 26, 2010, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for hadoop. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. However, please try to avoid uploading hadoop with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Friday, April 16, 2010, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Friday, May 07, 2010. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around Saturday, May 08, 2010, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- hadoop.old/debian/hadoop-namenoded.templates2010-03-22 09:56:11.717948376 +0100 +++ hadoop/debian/hadoop-namenoded.templates2010-04-13 07:16:51.506026053 +0200 @@ -1,17 +1,25 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: hadoop-namenoded/format Type: boolean Default: false -_Description: Should the namenode's filesystem be formatted now? - The namenode manages the Hadoop Distributed FileSystem (HDFS). Bug#543313: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the diogenes package
Dear maintainer of diogenes and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the diogenes Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs de es fr pt ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the diogenes package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Monday, April 19, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Thursday, April 08, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Tuesday, April 13, 2010 : send this notice Monday, April 19, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Tuesday, April 20, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Tuesday, April 27, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR em...@address, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: dioge...@packages.debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2010-04-13 07:24+0200\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME em...@address\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. Bug#577613: lintian: build-depends-on-python-dev-with-no-arch-any
Package: cdbs Version: 0.4.77 Severity: wishlist Hello, Python packages built with CDBS Build-depend on python-dev, even though a build-depends on python would be enough. The lintian warning[1], which is consistent with python policy: The python policy (appendix A)[1], mention that: Build dependencies for Python dependent packages must be declared for every Python version that the package is built for. The python-all-dev should be used when building modules for any or all Python versions. To build for a specific version or versions, Build-Depend on pythonX.Y-dev. **It also says**: Some applications and pure Python modules may be able to build-depend only on python or python-all and not require the -dev packages. Lintian warning[1] is consistent with the later paragraph. It would be nice if cdbs could detect whether python-dev is needed or python if enough. Alternatively, please better document that one should set: CDBS_BUILD_DEPENDS_class_python-distutils = python or CDBS_BUILD_DEPENDS_class_python-distutils = python-all Thanks, Franklin [1] http://lintian.debian.org/tags/build-depends-on-python-dev-with-no-arch-any.html -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (101, 'unstable'), (10, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages cdbs depends on: ii debhelper 7.4.17 helper programs for debian/rules Versions of packages cdbs recommends: ii autotools-dev 20100122.1 Update infrastructure for config.{ Versions of packages cdbs suggests: ii devscripts2.10.61scripts to make the life of a Debi ii doc-base 0.9.5 utilities to manage online documen -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I'll continue to look into this further. Alan Hello, I've seen the update of the libcr packages from 8.2.10 to 8.2-11. I don't know about the changelog since apt-listchanges gives no information. Bug#577620: already running gpg-agent makes gdm crash and go back to login screen
Package: gdm Version: 2.20.10-3 Severity: normal Hi, When I have an already running gpg-agent, gdm quits, X quits, and bring me back to the login screen. I'm trying to use my ~/.xsession, and whether or not I use it, the spawned gpg-agent complains that another is running, and takes everything down. I 'need' a DM because my video card is old and finicky, and when I use startx the console becomes unreadable once Xorg exits. So you can see why I find this a bit pressing. What it should do is see if there's an agent running, and use that, or just kill it and spawn another one (the latter has issues of its own...). The reason these 2 PCs had heirloom-mailx is that they both have exim, and exim4-base recommends mailx. heirloom-mailx started providing mailx in 2008. I would have thought bsd-mailx would have been picked by default to provide mailx, but it seems that's not the case. heirloom-mailx is used. One thing complicated a lot the analysis of this issue. The management of the mailx alternative seems to be broken. If you install/uninstall mailx providers to fix this issue, please pay attention to what happens to mail(1). It broke at some point on the 2 PCs. mailutils may well be the culprit. It provides mail(1) directly in /usr/bin/mail, which is usually an alternative link. This would deserve another bug report. I think /usr/bin/mail disappears sometimes, even when a mailx provider is present. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Hi! This problem is still existant and bring cedet to crash when not installed therefore I would like to see a Severity change to important here. CEDET basically doesn't work without cogre installed. Bug#577620: already running gpg-agent makes gdm crash and go back to login screen
Le mardi 13 avril 2010 à 03:33 -0400, Simon Kjika'qawej a écrit : When I have an already running gpg-agent, gdm quits, X quits, and bring me back to the login screen. I'm trying to use my ~/.xsession, and whether or not I use it, the spawned gpg-agent complains that another is running, and takes everything down. This is in no way related to GDM. Bug#575812: make setup-storage work without FAI
Sorry for the huge delay ... * Thomas Lange la...@informatik.uni-koeln.de [Mon Mär 29, 2010 at 03:07:08 +0200]: People like to use setup-storage without calling it from FAI. FullACK :) I'm fine with that! Mika's patch is included in 3.4~beta1+experimental2 (with minor tweaking of versioned conflicts with fai-client to ( 3.4~)). But I still have a few comments, see below. This is how it should work - install the fai-client package - export PATH=/usr/lib/fai:${PATH} - export disklist=$(disk-info | sort) - setup-storage -X -f yourconfigfile JFTR: $LOGDIR needs to be set as well. Example session with adjusted /usr/share/fai/setup-storage/Fstab.pm: | mkdir /tmp/foo | export LOGDIR=/tmp/foo | export disklist=$(/usr/lib/fai/disk-info | sort ) | | cat template EOF | disk_config sda | primary /boot 40 ext3 rw | primary swap 40 swap sw | EOF | | setup-storage -X -f template I guess I'll add this to the man page, if I may? /usr/share/fai/setup-storage/Fstab.pm has been manually adjusted because it invokes fai-vol_id without full path and I don't have /usr/lib/fai in my $PATH. This should be fixed, but see below. As discussed via IRC I'd strongly favor providing setup-storage as separate Debian package, because: * it improves the options to set the according dependencies in the Debian package * people who don't use FAI but need a tool like setup-storage might consider using it (and as a consequence providing a larger user base to setup-storage as well as possibly FAI) I've started to work on the initial packaging against current svn trunk of FAI: http://grml.org/tmp/split-out-setup-storage.patch Thanks a lot for doing all the work!! As I said above, I just tweaked the versioned conflicts. I'm not really happy to manually have to adjust $PATH so /usr/share/fai/setup-storage/Fstab.pm finds /usr/lib/fai/fai-vol_id. Would it be an option to provide a simple wrapper which sets $PATH, $disklist and $LOGDIR to sane defaults (if not set already) and provides all the cmdline arguments to setup-storage 1:1? (I'd work on that, so I just request for an [N]ACK ;)) - The paths: I think we should move at least fai-vol_id to /usr/share/fai/setup-storage (and use the full path in Fstab.pm). Should we do so for disk-info as well? But disk-info is used several times, so this is up to Thomas to decide. - In fact, we should at least have all the stuff in /usr/share/fai (it's all arch-indep), but that's probably a different story. - Should we simply change setup-storage to set LOGDIR to some temporary dir and run disk-info if either of the variables is not yet set? I believe this doesn't even warrant a separate wrapper. Thomas and Michael Tautschnig, I'd especially appreciate your feedback - what do you think about it? In general: great; we just need to iron out all the details. Best, Michael pgpVAwg3juJPG.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#577622: aspell: Ignores HTML's lang attribute
Package: aspell Version: 0.60.6-4 Severity: normal To reproduce this bug create an html file with the following content: --- Start mixed.html --- html body !-- English comment -- p lang=enSome English text./p p lang=frDu texte en Français./a /body /html --- End mixed.html --- Then check its content with one of the following commands: aspell check mixed.html cat mixed.html | aspell -a --mode html --lang fr cat mixed.html | aspell -a --mode html --lang en It ignores the text in the comment as it should when in html mode. However it does not take the lang attribute into account and thus systematically reports errors either in the French paragraph or in the English one. Ideally if no language and dictionary is specified on the command line it would automatically pick the right dictionary for the paragraph based on the lang attribute. But if a language is specified on the command line it should definitely ignore paragraphs with a non-matching lang attribute. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages aspell depends on: ii dictionaries-common 1.5.1 Common utilities for spelling dict ii libaspell15 0.60.6-4 GNU Aspell spell-checker runtime l ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.2-9 GCC support library ii libncursesw5 5.7+20090803-2 shared libraries for terminal hand ii libstdc++64.4.2-9The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 Versions of packages aspell recommends: ii aspell-de [aspell-dicti 20091006-4 German dictionary for aspell ii aspell-en [aspell-dicti 6.0-0-6 English dictionary for GNU Aspell ii aspell-es [aspell-dicti 1.10-9 Spanish dictionary for aspell ii aspell-fr [aspell-dicti 0.50-3-6 French dictionary for aspell ii aspell-it [aspell-dicti 2.4-20070901-0-2 The Italian dictionary for GNU Asp ii aspell-nl [aspell-dicti 1:1.10-5 Dutch dictionary for Aspell ii aspell-pl [aspell-dicti 20100220-1 Polish dictionary for aspell ii aspell-pt-br [aspell-di 20100109-2 Brazilian Portuguese dictionary fo ii aspell-pt-pt [aspell-di 20091013-1 European Portuguese dictionary for ii aspell-ru [aspell-dicti 0.99g5-8.1 Russian dictionary for Aspell ii aspell-sk [aspell-dicti 0.52-0-4 Slovak dictionary for GNU Aspell Versions of packages aspell suggests: pn aspell-docnone (no description available) pn spellutilsnone (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#577623: Inaccurate colormap choices when converting RGB to indexed
Package: gimp Version: 2.6.8-2 When converting an RGB image to indexed, the GIMP sometimes fails to choose as accurately as it could between similar colors in a chosen palette, even when each pixel has an exact match somewhere in the palette. The enclosed colormaptest.ppm and Colormap_test files together form a test case to reproduce this bug, as follows: 1. Compare colormaptest.ppm (a text PPM image) and Colormap_test (a GIMP palette) to verify that each contains the same RGB triples in the same order. 2. Move or copy Colormap_test into a directory for GIMP palettes, e.g., the ~/.gimp-2.6/palettes/ directory. 3. Start the GIMP and open colormaptest.ppm, then zoom in enough that you can see each individual pixel. 4. Right-click image - Image - Mode - Indexed... to open the Indexed Color Conversion dialogue, and set it as follows: a. Under Colormap, select Use custom palette, then click the button below that selection to pop up the list of available palettes. From this list select Colormap_test. Uncheck the Remove unused colors from colormap checkbox if it's checked. b. Under Dithering, for Color dithering: select None. Uncheck the Enable dithering of transparency checkbox if it's checked. c. Click Convert. 5. Observe that while the leftmost and middle pixels have been mapped to their exact matches in the palette, the rightmost pixel has been mapped to the same color as the middle pixel. Bug#577628: ITP: chipmunk-log -- a circuit schematic capture tool and simulation environment
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: José Manuel Santamaría Lema panfa...@gmail.com Package name: chipmunk-log Version: 5.58 Upstream Author: John Lazzaro lazz...@csvax.caltech.edu URL: http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~lazzaro/chipmunk/ License: GPL (no version specified) Programming Lang: C Description: a circuit schematic capture tool and simulation environment chipmunk-log is a small software suite which is useful to design and simulate electronic circuits. This program was some time ago in the archive, it was removed because is dead upstream, had low popcon and FTBFS. However this program is still used in my university for teaching in at least a couple of courses, therefore would be great to have it in the archive again. I have dowloaded the old package from snapshots.d.o, fixed the FTFBS and I'm willing to keep it working as long as possible. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I've got partial patches for a few of the changes, but I just noticed the upstream author apparently already has patches which enable build but hang at run time during testing. I'll continue to look into this further. Alan Hello, I've seen the update of the libcr packages from 8.2.10 to 8.2-11. I don't know about the changelog since apt-listchanges gives no information. I have updated my kernel to 2.6.33.2 since last report, but the update leads to the same problem: error: Could not find a directory [...] 0.8.2-11 doesn't fix the bug, but does push out several small changes I'd been wanting to make that means now debug symbols and the testsuite are built (this facilitates testing of a number of issues). Upstream has produced a patch which compiles, but doesn't work. I've had a look at debugging this quickly but haven't made any significant progress yet. Bug#574617: grub-common: GRUB_DEFAULT=saved not working
Package: grub-common Version: 1.98-1 Severity: normal I have the same problem as the original reporter. However I am not using LVM so the problem is unrelated and I see no reason to close this bug. Looking at /boot/grub/grub.cfg, the savedefault() function is never called. So if it really is responsible for saving the new default it's no surprise that this is not working. Apparently the reason is that save_default_entry() in /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib expects GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true instead of GRUB_DEFAULT=saved as the online grub documentation would seem to imply. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages grub-common depends on: ii base-files 5.1 Debian base system miscellaneous f ii dpkg1.15.5.6 Debian package management system ii gettext-base0.17-10 GNU Internationalization utilities ii install-info4.13a.dfsg.1-5 Manage installed documentation in ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libfreetype62.3.11-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime Versions of packages grub-common recommends: ii os-prober 1.35 utility to detect other OSes on a Versions of packages grub-common suggests: pn grub-emu none (no description available) pn multiboot-doc none (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#575812: make setup-storage work without FAI
* Michael Tautschnig m...@debian.org [Tue Apr 13, 2010 at 09:46:38AM +0200]: * Thomas Lange la...@informatik.uni-koeln.de [Mon Mär 29, 2010 at 03:07:08 +0200]: People like to use setup-storage without calling it from FAI. FullACK :) I'm fine with that! Mika's patch is included in 3.4~beta1+experimental2 (with minor tweaking of versioned conflicts with fai-client to ( 3.4~)). But I still have a few comments, see below. Great! Sure. /usr/share/fai/setup-storage/Fstab.pm has been manually adjusted because it invokes fai-vol_id without full path and I don't have /usr/lib/fai in my $PATH. This should be fixed, but see below. ACK [...] I'm not really happy to manually have to adjust $PATH so /usr/share/fai/setup-storage/Fstab.pm finds /usr/lib/fai/fai-vol_id. Leaving that up to/for Thomas. - Should we simply change setup-storage to set LOGDIR to some temporary dir and run disk-info if either of the variables is not yet set? I believe this doesn't even warrant a separate wrapper. Yes, this would be great from my POV (allowing the advanced user to use it as he wants to and providing safe defaults/easy use for the usual user). Thomas and Michael Tautschnig, I'd especially appreciate your feedback - what do you think about it? In general: great; we just need to iron out all the details. Great, I'm locking forward to be able to advertise setup-storage as standalone partitioner. :) regards, -mika- signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#158015: tidy: reexplanation of numeric entity bug with -big5
The two URLs that Dan gave are unfortunately no longer valid for this bug report, in that the current versions use utf-8. The wayback machine doesn't have a copy of either page from before the bug report was filed, but the versions it does have (e.g. http://web.archive.org/web/20021025151116/http://jidanni.org/lang/pinyin/19970607tai_ke.html), are enough that I think I know what the bug is that Dan was trying to explain; I'll give a smaller example here. The problem that I see (in at least versions 20091223cvs-1 and 20080116cvs-2) is that numeric entities get munged in big5 documents: e.g. given an input document of htmlheadtitleIPA ng: #331;/titleheadbody#331;/bodyhtml (with or without meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html; charset=big5 in the head) when run through `tidy -big5' will wrongly get output with each #331; converted to amp;#331;. The correct behaviour would be to retain them in #331; form (IPA `ng' symbol). (I don't know whether or not the following is the source of the bug, but note that numeric entities refer to unicode code points, not big5 code points. The html4 spec is a little misleading on this point: the confusion arises from the phrase the document character set (in Numeric character references specify the code position of a character in the document character set.), which on a casual reading might be taken to mean the document encoding, but section 5.1 (and indeed the sentence immediately following that misleading sentence) clarify that they do refer to unicode (iso10646) code points.) pjrm. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#574617: grub-common: GRUB_DEFAULT=saved not working
On Tue, 13 Apr 2010, Francois Gouget wrote: [...] Apparently the reason is that save_default_entry() in /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib expects GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true instead of GRUB_DEFAULT=saved as the online grub documentation would seem to imply. It turns out that one needs both GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true *and* GRUB_DEFAULT=saved, otherwise things just don't work. As far as I can tell this is totally undocumented: * GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT is not present in /etc/default/grub * GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT is not mentionned anywhere in /usr/share/doc/grub-*/* I was about to submit a patch to remove GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT from /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib. However it seems adding it was supposed to fix a bug: http://osdir.com/ml/grub-devel-gnu/2009-12/msg00276.html However I must say I don't see what GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT was supposed to fix, only that it essentially broke things from my perspective. Also I don't see why the 'save_default' call is added conditionnally to the menu entries. According to the message above the goal behind the introduction of savedefault was to not have to modify custom entries if the implementation changed. However now custom entries still need to be modified if one switches savedefault on/off. So I think savedefault should be called systematically and check itself whether to actually save something or not. -- Francois Gouget fgou...@free.fr http://fgouget.free.fr/ E-Voting: Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Bug#574617: grub-common: fix grub-set-default and savedefault
The attached patch (grub-common.diff) has no effect with the current versions of grub because when GRUB_DEFAULT=saved the generated code ends up looking as follows: set default=${saved_entry} if [ \${saved_entry} ]; then set default=\${saved_entry} fi Also, this bug seems to be a duplicate of bug 574617 (although the latter should really be attached to grub-common instead). What these are I do not know. looking at the build log -maltivec seems to be the smoking gun. It appears the upstream configure script is looking for altivec support at build time and enabling it if it detects it (which is the right thing to do when building for your own system but the WRONG thing to do when building distribution packages) Ideally this sort of issue needs access to ppc hardware both with and without altivec to nail it down (you need to do the builds on machines with altivec support and then check they work on machines without it) . I'll try to take a look using qemu but I can't promise anything. I've come up with a patch which I beleive should fix this but building with qemu is extremely slow and in any case to properly test this really needs hardware both with (to do the build) and without (to test it) altivec to properly test. Can the problem be worked around by running the affected apps with the environment variable SDL_ALTIVEC_BLIT_FEATURES=0? If yes, SDL_HasAltiVec() may just incorrectly return true on non-Altivec-capable systems. If no, apparently the Altivec specific code isn't separated enough yet in the SDL build / packaging. Should be solvable either by moving all the Altivec specific code to separate .c files and only setting the Altivec specific compiler flags for those, or by building the binaries once with and without Altivec support each and installing the Altivec enabled binaries in /usr/lib/altivec/. -- Earthling Michel Dänzer |http://www.vmware.com Libre software enthusiast | Debian, X and DRI developer -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#577630: emacs23: Please document how to disable gpm-mouse-mode
(gpm-mouse-mode 0) This worked for emacs23 in squeeze, but now when using lenny, emacs22 complains in this way: An error has occurred while loading `/home/sanvila/.emacs': Symbol's function definition is void: gpm-mouse-mode You need to check whether it is defined first, like this: (when (fboundp 'gpm-mouse-mode) (gpm-mouse-mode 0)) Thanks! Would be possible to write a README.Debian which documents the issues with gpm and having a good recipe to disable gpm-mouse-mode, please? The recommended way is to customize the gpm-mouse-mode variable, like any other user setting. This interface exists since Emacs 20. Yes, but it is in emacs23 when the problem with gpm arises, hence my suggestion to document this somewhere in /usr/share/doc/emacs23. People not familiar with lisp and emacs internals (like myself) would be lost and will think this is a bug instead of a feature which may be disabled. In fact, I've had to search in the archived bug reports for emacs23 to know that I had to disable gpm-mouse-mode. The experience for the user is that cut and paste just stops working. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#295567: iptables: order in which raw, filter, nat, mangle tables are examined
From: Jan Engelhardt jeng...@medozas.de Date: Sun, 3 Aug 2008 13:43:37 -0400 (EDT) That's because it is not iptables's job or decision as to what table gets executed in which order. IMHO that's not a good reason for not having it specified in the man page. And AFAIK that order has never changed. I wanted to make sure in which order the tables are examined, didn't find it in the man page, and searched in Google, which gave me this bug report (!). I think it would be a good thing to make it clear in the man page. As a user, it suffices to know that the order is manglenatfilter for purposes of routing and filtering control. Right. But how can a user know it if it isn't specified in the man page? (and, btw, I would add rawmangle). While there might be use for it in some cases, there is none in Debian yet. dak (the main archive software) only accepts gz and bz2 at the moment and I don't see much benefit in adding support for more in svn-bp now. There are bigger problems to solve and actually this could even lead to problems. Well, xz might be allowed by dak at some point (maybe even in squeeze+1) so it's good to prepare for it IMO. I don't really see what kind of problems you expect. And Debian tools can also be used by derivatives taking different decisions than ftpmasters regarding the set of compression scheme allowed. If that causes errors and nothing displayed, then this is a bug either in the postscript files or in gs. If that does display the proper contents, please try with the full options gv calles gs with: gs -sDEVICE=x11 -dTextAlphaBits=4 -dGraphicsAlphaBits=2 -dMaxBitmap=1000 -dNOPLATFONTS filename.ps 3) If everything with gs directly works but gv still does not, please try some more postscript files to check it is not anything file specific and let me know if it is or is not. (there could be flags to modify the behavior, eg one to restore the old behavior and one to make mv fail if the directories can't be removed.) -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.33-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages coreutils depends on: ii libacl1 2.2.49-2 Access control list shared library ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libselinux1 2.0.94-1 SELinux runtime shared libraries coreutils recommends no packages. coreutils suggests no packages. -- debconf-show failed -- To use raw power is to make yourself infinitely vulnerable to greater powers. -- Bene Gesserit axiom signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#388567: [patch] support for .orig.tar.{lzma,xz}
On Tue, Apr 13, 2010 at 01:12:40PM +0200, Raphael Hertzog wrote: On Sun, 28 Mar 2010, Jan Hauke Rahm wrote: On Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 04:30:56PM +0100, Andreas Beckmann wrote: the attached patch extends the source format 3.0 handling by adding support for .lzma and .xz compressed tarballs to svn-inject and svn-buildpackage. Patch is vs. SVN r15858 (where the original patch from Raphael adding 3.0 and bz2 support was already applied). I was probably thinking of people using lzma with svn-inject and svn-bp an so on to see their upload rejected after all. But I don't really object to implementing it. I'm just saying that we should get the features working that are actually implemented in dpkg and dak but not working with svn-bp yet... :) Hauke signature.asc Description: Digital signature
