I'm just curious how things are progressing with this?

A couple of months ago, Andrew said that a new upstream release that
solves
several pending issues was published and that it would soon be
packaged.

Thanks for reminding this. We(lxde packing team) had a discussion
during the LDXE meetup at LinuxTag. This package still need more
tests. We planed to upload it to get more people to help on testing.

Howevrer you may now get it from collab-maint's git if you would like
to try it now.

Bug#585689: cups: Doesnt find network printer when interface is renamed

2010-06-13 Thread Jean-Luc Coulon (f5ibh)
Package: cups
Version: 1.4.3-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I've a computer connected to a router with ethernet
I've a printer connected to the same router with ethernet also

I have renamed the interface on the computer from ethX to something else because
the ehtX name is not consistant from session to session (I get sometimes eth0
and sometimes eth2)

For that I use nameif in my /etc/network/interfaces :

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
auto livebox
iface livebox inet static
address 192.168.x.xx
netmask 255.255.255.0
pre-up nameif livebox 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xxa
up route add default gw 192.168.x.x

With this setup, the printer is not discovered by cups.

The following command (find from the help) returns nothing:
CUPS_DEBUG_LEVEL=2 /usr/lib/cups/backend/snmp 21 | tee snmp.log

snmpwalk find the printer.

If I use eth2, the printer is normally found.

regards

Jean-Luc

Bug#571469: [pkg-ntp-maintainers] Bug#571469: Will ntpd notice it can resolve after some time?

2010-06-13 Thread Kurt Roeckx

I had the issue in 571469 here after using parallel booting for the first

Am I right that the problem is that ntpd can not resolve names?  Will ntpd be
 able to
notice, by itself, after some time, that it can resolve names?  With the old
 booting
sequence, was ntpd started after bind?  Do we need one more Required-Start
 option,
 namely $resolver?

It should figure this out after some time, if other software on
the system doesn't tell ntpd otherwise. It should start a slave
process to do so. There are currently 2 issues I'm aware of that
might cause some issues, causing it to return wrong info for
hostname lookups:
- libnss-mdns: #561622
- libc6: #582916

Atleast the libc6 issue alone still makes ntpd behave properly
it my case. It will log a message: host name not found, but
it will not add (permanent) after it, and it keeps working.

However, it would be nice that the if the network is up, that it's
actually useful. We currently wait for:
$network $remote_fs $syslog

And it's my understanding that this should be enough, atleast
that's what I've been told when we added those. If it's not
doing what it should, I suggest you file a bug against sysv-rc
or something.

If you still think there is an issue with ntpd please open a
new bug. This one is about a configuration problem and
has been closed.

Would be nice if porters could take a look.

Quick and dirty band-aid for kfreebsd attached. Please note that the

that patch applied, instead of starting the build afresh.

Then fails with:

| rm -r debian/tmp/usr/lib/dri

Bug#576013: Patch seems to be good

That's a bit of a problem :) The only thing that actually needs testing
is the backlight :) If you could try to find out what's driving the
backlight and shutting it down to test pommed, that'd be nice.

I think GNOME was after the management of the backlight, even without
pommed. So I created a test user, logged in with that test user using
IceWM and stopped pommed: the backlight regulation didn't work. Starting
again pommed it worked (but didn't show the popup that GNOME showed) and
stopping it again it didn't work. So I think that pommed is working! :-)

The same things is happening using a virtual terminal. :-)

Bug#585693: ctwm: Dragging a window in the workspace manager causes it to pop right

2010-06-13 Thread Jorgen Grahn
Package: ctwm
Version: 3.7-3
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

This has annoyed me for years. With ReallyMoveInWorkspaceManager set, you
can drag windows (within workspaces and between them) by manipulating the
tiny thumbnail versions in the workspace manager.

However, on most of my machines (like the one I'm typing this on) this
causes the real window to pop to the right of the screen. You can control
which workspace it ends up in and where it's placed vertically, but it
will always be placed to the right.

It turns out upstream has fixed this bug in 3.8a, although I couldn't see
it mentioned in their changelog. I cherry-picked the relevant change
(one character) and attach it here as a patch.

(I use ctwm exclusively, and yet I haven't had an urge to move to
3.8a ... but I note that it's been out for years without making it
into Debian. I guess your time and energy is limited, too.)

BR,
Jorgen

Bug#585502: mutt: pipe-message (|) causes segfault on multiple tagged messages

Re: Ben Finney 2010-06-11 20100611044112.c9caa80...@mail.benfinney.id.au
This is a regression; earlier versions of Mutt in Squeeze (I can't say
when the change occurred, but it is within this year 2010) had no
problem piping many tagged messages to a command.

Hi Ben,

could you give 1.5.20-8 (or -9, shouldn't matter) a try?

Btw, is this with pipe_split set or unset?

Bug#585695: nvidia-kernel-source: Manual built of module does not consider already set KVERS and KSRC environment variables

2010-06-13 Thread Edgar Sippel
Package: nvidia-kernel-source
Version: 195.36.24-1
Severity: important
Tags: squeeze

The latest change in debian/rules applies a new behaviour of the build script
which makes manual building the module not working anymore according to
documentation README.debian method #3:
I'm using several different kernels on my machine, and normally I build the
nvidia packages for all of them by just setting the respective environment
variables KVERS and KSRC to the different values and then building the modules
one after another manually by calling
/usr/src/modules/nvidia-kernel/debian/rules binary_modules.
The latest changes in version 195.36.24-2 do not consider these already set
variables anymore but, as far as I understood the script takes the version from
the target of /usr/src/linux, which, on my machine always points to the 'main'
kernel, meaning the one currently in testing. So, compiling for different
versions always needs a change of that symlink including the risk of letting
this point to a wrong version afterwards when forgetting to re-set it.
Please, either update the documentation to give the user a hint why building
does not work as he's used to or (preferrably) let the script check if these
variables are already set and consider them.

Best regards,
Edgar

Bug#585699: libmodplug0c2: Library crashes when playing music modules on amd64

2010-06-13 Thread Robert Högberg
Package: libmodplug0c2
Version: 1:0.8.8-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Version 0.8.7 of libmodplug library is not working properly on amd64. Playing
any music module will cause the library to crash.

This affects gstreamer-plugins-bad, which links to this library and this in
turn affects other software such as the gnome file browser (which can't preview
music modules, but instead crashes).

I have verified that upstream version 0.8.8 resolves this problem.

I can provide a backtrace of the crash, but bringing in a new upstream release
seems like the best fix here.

Bug#582825: script lcd4linux/init.d/lcd4linux possibly missing dependency on $syslog

tags 582825 + patch
thanks

This patch should solve this issue, making sure the lcd4linux init.d
script start after the syslog collector is operational and before it
is taken down during shutdown.

Bug#585627: hplip: Error with hpmudext module : hp-* dont works

2010-06-13 Thread Sandro Tosi
Hello Mark,

On Sun, Jun 13, 2010 at 04:17, Mark Purcell m...@debian.org wrote:
Matthias, What foo should I put in my debian/control file to automatically

good luck waiting for a reply from him...

 We currently just have:
 XB-Python-Version: ${python:Versions}
 Depends: ${python:Depends}, python-dbus (= 0.80), python-imaging,
 python-pexpect, python-notify

But that doesn't limit the Depends to the python version the package was
 built with.

It seems that I could hard code:
 XS-Python-Version: 2.5

that is wrong, unless your package can *only* work with 2.5

But that would be too much and the package would then have to be manually
 updated every-time you upversion python.

The correct way to handle it is to set XS-P-V to = 2.5 (that
declares the package only works with version 2.5 onward) or even to
all (that declares the package can use any of the supported version
of Python in Debian) and then build the package for all the supported
versions in debian/rules.

You can call pyversions (with parameters, IIRC -s for all the
supported versions) then loop over those versions and call python$ver
setup.py build and then install on each of them.

Also, I suggest to use a python helper program, and the debian-python
community suggests python-support, which is reliable and
well-maintained.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me (or debian-pyt...@l.d.o).

Bug#585695: [pkg-nvidia-devel] Bug#585695: nvidia-kernel-source: Manual built of module does not consider already set KVERS and KSRC environment variables

2010-06-13 Thread Russ Allbery
Edgar Sippel for.your.spam.o...@web.de writes:

The latest change in debian/rules applies a new behaviour of the build
script which makes manual building the module not working anymore
according to documentation README.debian method #3:

I'm using several different kernels on my machine, and normally I build
the nvidia packages for all of them by just setting the respective
environment variables KVERS and KSRC to the different values and then
building the modules one after another manually by calling
 /usr/src/modules/nvidia-kernel/debian/rules binary_modules.

The latest changes in version 195.36.24-2 do not consider these already
set variables anymore but, as far as I understood the script takes the
version from the target of /usr/src/linux, which, on my machine always
points to the 'main' kernel, meaning the one currently in testing. So,
compiling for different versions always needs a change of that symlink
including the risk of letting this point to a wrong version afterwards
 when forgetting to re-set it.

Those variables are, speaking generally, taken into account; otherwise,
nvidia-grahics-modules wouldn't build, since that's how it works.
However, the relationship between environment variables and makefile
variables are always tricky, and I suspect what's happened is that the
makefile is no longer honoring the environment variable over what's in
debian/rules.

As a workaround for the time being, please pass the settings directly on
the debian/rules invocation line; in other words, like:

/usr/src/modules/nvidia-kernel/debian/rules binary_modules \
KSRC=/path/to/kernel/source KVERS=2.6.34-foo

That should work. We'll either update the documentation accordingly or
figure out the right way to tell make to honor environment variables.

Bug#585702: ITP: latexml -- LaTeX to XML Converter

2010-06-13 Thread Atsuhito KOHDA
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Atsuhito KOHDA ko...@pm.tokushima-u.ac.jp

* Package name: latexml
  Version : 0.7.0
Upstream Author : Bruce Miller bruce.mil...@nist.gov
* URL : http://dlmf.nist.gov/LaTeXML/
* License : Public domain software
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : LaTeX to XML Converter

latexml is a program, written in Perl, that attempts to faithfully mimic
TeX's behaviour, but produces XML instead of dvi. The document model of
the target XML makes explicit the model implied by LaTeX.
 .
The processing and model are both extensible; you can define the mapping
between TeX constructs and the XML fragments to be created. A postprocessor,
latexmlpost converts this XML into other formats such as HTML or XHTML,
with options to convert the math into MathML (currently only presentation)
 or images.

Bug#572582: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the mailgraph package

2010-06-13 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of mailgraph and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the mailgraph Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four
days, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es eu fi fr gl it ja nb nl pt pt_BR ru sk sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: fi

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the mailgraph package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Saturday, June 19,
2010. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Tuesday, June 08, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Sunday, June 13, 2010 : send this notice
Saturday, June 19, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Sunday, June 20, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Sunday, June 27, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

FYI: see http://bugs.debian.org/585051#17

Based on that, I suspect the proximate cause for the strlen + co false

Hope that helps,

Bug#104373: Subdirectory under /usr/lib/cgi-lib should be explicitly allowed

2010-06-13 Thread Charles Plessy
Le Sat, Jun 12, 2010 at 12:35:41PM -0700, Russ Allbery a écrit :

Despite its age, this bug is rather straightforward and is something we
really should have fixed years ago. The current wording around locations
of CGI programs implies that subdirectories of /usr/lib/cgi-bin may not be
used, but of course this is very widely used in packages already in the
archive and works with a typical web server configuration. Here is a
 patch that explicitly allows this.

Hi all,

will web servers find the CGI scripts automagically in
/usr/lib/cgi-bin/package?

If not, there is not much advantage to move them under /usr/lib as it is done
now. Most other parts for packaged web sites are already in
/usr/share/package. For simple sites, having the CGIs in /usr/lib/cgi-bin/
makes the maintainer's task simpler as he does not have to write webserver
configuration files, but for more complex packages, it sometimes makes the task
harder, for instance when the CGI scripts need to be patched because relative
links are broken by the move.

There were discussions along those lines on debian-devel a couple of monthes
ago. I suggest to seriously consider to drop the requirement to separate the
CGI scripts from the other files of the packaged websites.

Have a nice day,

Now, doing a complete

Bug#369316: [pkg-nvidia-devel] Bug#369316: nvidia-glx: please make the glx part installable without the rest

2010-06-13 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Russ Allbery wrote:
While I agree that the dependency makes life annoying for that particular
case, not having the dependency causes all sorts of problems in the more
common use case of a regular host. nvidia-glx gets upgraded without
upgrading the kernel module and then stops working, or the kernel module
isn't installed and users are mystified over why the package doesn't run.
I'm hesitant to change the dependency to a recommends because I think a
lot more people will have difficulty getting the right set of packages
installed and everything working (and continuing to work) if the
 dependency is less strict.

I'm not completely certain on this, and could be convinced, but I'm
 nervous about it.

A possible solution I see for this problem would be to move the
libraries to some nvidia-glx-core package, which is required by
nvidia-glx (so current setups won't be affected). Will be a bit work to
migrate the diversions and the trigger properly. We should decide on
this before we update the legacy packages.

Bug#583856: valgrind: suppressions need to be updated for glibc 2.11

And many more errors (most of them are strlen/__strcmp_sse3 repeated in
 various
 contexts):

 FYI: see http://bugs.debian.org/585051#17

Based on that, I suspect the proximate cause for the strlen + co false
positives is not glibc’s bumped version number but the new
 --with-multi-arch feature.

Upgrading to the valgrind version in experimental
(1:3.5.0+3.6.0svn20100609-1) makes all these warnings go away, if used
with eglibc 2.11.

However valgrind from experimental and eglibc 2.10 shows some new errors
(again some uninitialized value/jump in dl_*), but I don't think thats
relevant since unstable contains 2.11 now.

@Josua:

Can you please confirm that you send the wrong command (aka close command

So I checked your eject command and noticed that it is more a close
commandsomewhat (length for example is missing). I tried
 55534243123456782400861b000200 instead and
it worked perfectly here too (03 - the close command didn't work, but 02 -
the eject command seems to be ok).

So I see currently following two commands:

  - Vodafone windows way:
555342431234567824008685002400
  - Eject command:
55534243123456782400861b000200

  Here are 2 sysprof runs:
  - UMS / fast:
- kernel 11.25%
- X 77.20%
  - KMS / slow:
- kernel 90.28%

Unfortunately, there's no information about where in the kernel the
cycles are burnt. This information should be available with sysprof
1.1.x and a kernel with the performance counter/event framework.

Quite a nice tool:

What do you think that means?

I think it could confirm my suspicion below, reassigning to the kernel.
Would be great if you could try if it's better with a 2.6.33 or 2.6.34
   kernel.

Anyway, this probably means it's an issue in the kernel, not the X
driver. May be solved already in newer kernels, there have been some
 AGP
performance improvements which I'm not sure have made it into Debian's
 2.6.32 DRM backport.

BTW, does booting the kernel with radeon.agpmode=-1 work around the
problem? It'll make things slower in general but it looks like it should
help for this problem, which would further confirm the above.

The test runs at 65FPS with radeon.agpmode=-1 (~3-4x faster than
without this option, but ~4-5x slower than without KMS).

On 2.6.34-1-686 (from experimental) the test runs at 150 FPS.
It's better though still 2x slower.

I don't think there is anything I did wrong or that there's
a security event going on. It seems like the buffer is simply too
small. This may be due to IPv6, but I am not sure.

In any case, I'd appreciate if ntop didn't get quite so loud about
this problem and wouldn't reject subsequent requests. What do I have

Running prelink on /usr/bin/emacs23-x doesn't abort.

Since prelink doesn't provide a -dbg package, I downloaded the source package,
rebuilt it, and run gdb against it.

Here is the new stacktrace:

If I remove /etc/prelink.cache, I still get the same error when I rerun prelink.

Let me know if you need further information/testing.

Thanks, Adam.

Just in case maintainers were waiting for an ACK from my side, sorry,

Anyway, better late than never: tested on my kfreebsd-i386 porterbox,

If not, there is not much advantage to move them under /usr/lib as it is done

makes the maintainer's task simpler as he does not have to write webserver
csonfiguration files, but for more complex packages, it sometimes makes the
 task
harder, for instance when the CGI scripts need to be patched because relative
links are broken by the move.

There were discussions along those lines on debian-devel a couple of monthes
ago. I suggest to seriously consider to drop the requirement to separate the
CGI scripts from the other files of the packaged websites.

i don't think there's any *requirement*, as this is all in should
statements. in isolation from outside context i think the change russ
describes makes sense, but generally speaking i think the web-related
suggestions in policy are very dated and much of it ought to be phased
out in deference to the webapps policy (or the webapps policy phased in)

debian-edu-config depends on lsof, which is not available on
kfreebsd-*, which is a release architecture.

Well, the correct fix would be to get lsof available on kfreebsd, not
drop it as a dependency for d-e-config. lsof is used by the scripts
in the d-e-config package. I would say this is a wishlist bug at
most. Why do you believe it should have severity important?

The current btrfs-tools require functionality not present in

If instead I do this:

Then there is no crash.

I have this in my /etc/ld.so.conf.d/a-local.xorg.conf:

Looks like I have to add those to prelink.conf too.

not in prelink.conf.

Bug#584605: audacity: Backtrace, as requested...

2010-06-13 Thread Adrian Knoth
On Sat, Jun 12, 2010 at 10:34:22PM -0400, Dave Witbrodt wrote:

Looking at the values of j (826) and cnt (4294967274) at the time
of the crash, they look out of the ballpark to me. This is the loop
being iterated (in lib-src/portmixer/src/px_linux_alsa.c) which hits
 those values:

  else if (snd_mixer_selem_is_enum_capture(elem)) {
 unsigned int cnt = snd_mixer_selem_get_enum_items(elem);
 unsigned int j;

 for (j = 0; j  cnt; j++) {
char iname[256];
snd_mixer_selem_get_enum_item_name(elem, j, sizeof(iname),
 iname);
(..)
   break;
}
i++;
 }

The huge value for cnt suggests that
snd_mixer_selem_get_enum_items() is returning a negative number here,
but upstream has coded this function to store the return value in an
unsigned int (and not bother to check it!).

Exactly.

Looking for some documentation, I found:

 http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/alsa-lib/group___simple_mixer.html#g23600e756612dca7ea8329994590fa19

   int snd_mixer_selem_get_enum_items (snd_mixer_elem_t *elem)

   Returns:
the number of enumerated items, otherwise a negative error code

Oops! This thing can return negative numbers, but upstream thought it
 wouldn't happen.

Thank you so much. Best bug report I've ever seen. Really. ;)

If I can provide more information, test any patches, or be of help in some
other way just let me know.

Find attached a quick fix. Untested, but it basically does what you've
suggested: don't run the loop when cnt is negative.

Does it fix the problem?

TIA

Bug#585068: [PATCH] Fix grub-probe partition naming on FreeBSD

2010-06-13 Thread Colin Watson
The following patch is aimed at fixing this Debian bug:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=585068

I've tested it on Debian GNU/kFreeBSD and it seems to be producing sensible
output now.

The one glitch is that if you ask it to probe /dev/ad0s1a, it returns
(hd0,msdos1) rather than (hd0,msdos1,bsd1): this is because both /dev/ad0s1
and /dev/ad0s1a have the same start sector, and it just uses the first one
it finds. When I set prefix to (hd0,msdos1)/boot/grub, GRUB can read from
that perfectly well, so can I ignore this glitch on the basis that it
doesn't cause a practical problem?

Bug#585716: kdebase-workspace-bin: File conflict with ksplash (/usr/bin/ksplashsimple)

When trying to upgrade KDE from Lenny to Squeeze, the upgrade fail
because kdebase-workspace-bin refuses to install because ksplash
version 4:3.9.5.dfsg.1-6+lenny1 is already installed and they share
the file /usr/bin/ksplashsimple.

This is the relevant fragment of the upgrade log:

I guess some kind of breaks/conflicts/replaces should be used here to
ensure upgrades go smooth.

Setting severity to serious, as this issue breaks upgrades and policy
state that packages providing the same file need to conflict with each
other.

Happy hacking,

Bug#585717: Mistake in Solid action predicate for kamera

2010-06-13 Thread dju`
Package: kamera
Version: 4:4.4.3-1
Severity: normal

The predicate in file /usr/share/kde4/apps/solid/actions/solid_camera.desktop
is wrong:

X-KDE-Solid-Predicate=Camera.supportedDrivers 'gphoto'

whereas it should be:

X-KDE-Solid-Predicate=Camera.supportedDrivers == 'gphoto'

With this correction the Open with File Manager action appears in the action
list when connecting a gphoto camera to the computer.

Bug#580922: gnome-keyring is not unlocked when auto login as specific user is enabled

If you want that behavior with autologin, you need to change your

As the criticized behaviour has been identified to be intentional,
shouldn't this bug report get closed?

Bug#585718: libdv: FTBFS on hurd-i386: missing _IOT defines

Hi,

currently libdv does not compile on GNU/Hurd, because the Hurd-specific
_IOT defines for the 'video1394_mmap' and 'video1394_wait' structs (needed for
the ioctl) are missing.
The attached patch provides them, properly compiled on Hurd only.

Thanks, you are right, I see the pdf file with テスト, thanks.

In lenny `xpdf-japanese' (in non-free) should correctly show this PDF

be merged to `xpdf' package (Bug#577917); after the merge xpdf will
show it correctly.

 So I will upload?

Or do you suggest to add a recommends or suggests to cmap-adobe-japan1

Most of the files in cmap-adobe-* packages are also included in
`poppler-data' package, so a future merge might occur (but I don't
know how/when that will happen). Suggesting cmap-adobe-* packages e.g.

Bug#560238: tech-ctte: Default value for net.ipv6.bindv6only sysctl

2010-06-13 Thread Guus Sliepen
reassign 560238 tech-ctte
thanks

Dear members of the Technical Committee,

There has been an extensive discussion about the proper default value of the
net.ipv6.bindv6only sysctl, both on the debian-devel mailing list and in
bugreport 560238. Since people are clearly divided on the issue, and it is
unlikely a compromise can be found, I have forwarded it to you for a decision.
Please read the past discussion, but to summarise the arguments for both
possible default values:

net.ipv6.bindv6only = 0
---

* This is the default value of the Linux kernel.

* This value is used as a default in many other Linux distributions.

* This behaviour is the opposite of the default of the FreeBSD kernel.

* Many applications work properly (ie, support both IPv4 and IPv6
  simultaneously) only with this setting.

* The behaviour of the network stack with this value conforms to RFC 3493
  sections 3.7 and 5.3.

* It is said to conform to POSIX 2008, Volume 2, Section 2.10.20.

* Instead of IPv4 addresses, sockets return IPv6-mapped addresses, and not all
software handles this properly (ie, and ACL for an IPv4 address gets ignored
because the software only sees an IPv6 address).

* This value does not introduce new bugs.

* Setting this value now will keep unstable in a more usable state.

net.ipv6.bindv6only = 1
---

* This restricts IPv6 addresses to IPv6 sockets, and IPv4 address to IPv4
sockets, making interpretation of addresses unambiguous, and hence increases
  security of programs.

* This requires some applications to be adapted to support multiple sockets.

* The behaviour of the network stack with this value is the same as the default
  behaviour of FreeBSD.

* This value reduces security bugs, but introduces new bugs since some
applications no longer work as expected.

* This value will flush out all applications that cannot handle an alternative
  setting of net.ipv6.bindv6only.

* Setting this value now will get more bugs fixed before the next release.

In the past maintainers have pushed for new ways for doing things that upset
the status quo. The idea is that introducing new functionality, although it
will break some existing functionality, will result in faster convergence to a
better situation. Opponents will argue that new functionality should
preferrably only be introduced when it will not break exisiting functionality.
I hope the Committee will issue a statement whether the former is, in general,
accepted behaviour, or if Debian should be more conservative.

Bug#585712: depends on lsof, which is not available on kfreebsd-*

2010-06-13 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi Petter,

On Sonntag, 13. Juni 2010, Petter Reinholdtsen wrote:

Well, the correct fix would be to get lsof available on kfreebsd, not
drop it as a dependency for d-e-config. lsof is used by the scripts
in the d-e-config package. I would say this is a wishlist bug at
most. Why do you believe it should have severity important?

As I wrote, kreebsd-* is a release architecture. (So it's actually debatable
whether this bug is important or serious...)

How do those scripts behave if lsof is not available?

I suspect the correct solution are arch specific depends.

cheers,

Bug#585722: Additional option to load image in context of current page

2010-06-13 Thread Mark Hobley
Package: iceape-browser
Version: 2.0.4-1
Severity: wishlist

When image loading is disabled, there should be an additional option in the
right click context menu over the image space to Load this image, which
causes the image to load in the context of the current page. (Maybe the
Reload Image, which currently does not work when image loading is disabled,
could be repaired to provide this facility.)

This is different from the View Image option, which opens the image in a
new window, rather than in the context of the current page.

When attempting to copy and paste sections of text. Select a section of text,

Selecting Copy will copy the selection to a clipboard. However, a

required and right clicking does not always give a context menu containing the

Bug#585725: git-cvs: package description should suggest cvs2svn for robust conversions

2010-06-13 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: git-cvs
Version: 1:1.7.1-1

As the ISSUES section of the git-cvsimport man page explains, unless
timestamps are strictly increasing, no file is cvs imported more
than once, and no commits add files after a branch is made and before
its first commit, git-cvsimport is likely to produce an incorrect
result. See also http://bugs.debian.org/474185.

Since this is quite relevant to someone considering whether to
install the git-cvs package, it should probably be mentioned in the
package description. Maybe something like this:

Description: fast, scalable, distributed revision control system (cvs
interoperability)
This package provides the git cvsimport, cvsexportcommit, and cvsserver
tools, which allow Git to read from and write to CVS repositories and
provide CVS clients access to Git repositories.
 .
The git-cvsimport tool can incrementally import from a repository that is
being actively developed and it does not require access outside of the usual
CVS protocol. Unfortunately, many repositories include features that would
lead to an incorrect conversion; for reliable one-time imports, use the
cvs2git (from the cvs2svn package) or parsecvs instead.

Thoughts?
Jonathan

Bug#585726: gdesklets: General Calender has not-so-general events

2010-06-13 Thread Umang Varma
Package: gdesklets
Version: 0.36.1-4
Severity: minor

The general calender of events in the gdesklets calender desklet has
some events that aren't general, even though it seems to attempt to be
broad (by including dates like the Chinese New Year and Ramadan). Many of
the days on the calender are American. _Examples_ :

 * Daylight saving time - doesn't apply to everyone
 * Autumn doesn't begin on Sept 22 across the globe.
 * July 4 is *American* Independence Day
 * Election Day is American

It would be better if the American dates could be put in a separate
America calender and the General calender remain general.

Bug#585081: New Upstream Release - digikam 1.3.0

2010-06-13 Thread Michael Holtermann
Hi Mark,

is there any new information available on this topic? I've read the discussion
at digikam-devel (http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/digikam-devel/2010-
June/043704.html), but that one came to no end, I think.

I don't know the structure of libs in Debian very well, but isn't it possible
to build and deliver different applications with different library versions?
As far as I see, libkexiv is used by Strigi, too. Maybe Gilles could tag the
current trunk of libkexiv as a minor release.

Current digikam (1.2.0) depends on exiv2 0.19, which contains a bug with Nikon
DSLR-JPGs. This bug was filled on 2010-01-27 and closed with 0.20
(http://dev.exiv2.org/issues/show/677). It would be really nice to have a
workable digikam back again... ;-)

Thanks a lot!
Kind regards,
Michael
