Bug#589703: trac-git: source package layout is weird

2010-07-20 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Source: trac-git
Version: 0.0.20100513-2

I was looking through trac-git source to figure out how it

I was hoping to get a sense of when trac-git did that, so

So:

Okay, that’s weird.

Hmm, no explanation there.

So at least the 0.10 version uses git-rev-list and git-diff-tree,

Would it be possible to add a note to README.source to explain
the code layout?

 Hi,

the recent transition to jackd2 causes a mess in my system.

Yes, that is sort-of expected.

 I don't want to downgrade to jackd2.

This doesn't make sense. I assume that you meant jackd1 here.

After being forced to use it for a couple of months, I find it is much
 more reliable.

Yes, that's why we want to ship it as default jackd flavor in squeeze.
However, we discovered that squeeze is better off with both jackd1 and
jackd2 versions, and have applications compiled against libjack0 from
the jackd1 package.

If I try to install jackd2 by hand, it forces me to uninstall jackd1 plus
 loads
 of packages, including
mplayer, aqualung, alsaplayer, gstreamer-plugins, libpurple, pidgin, libxine,
 xine-ui, vdr plugins
 and many others.

Those packages need to be rebuilt against the updated jackd1 package.
The release team is already on it with scheduling binNMUs. I'm therefore
reassigning this issue to release.debian.org so that we can reuse this
bug for tracking purposes.

please CC pkg-multimedia-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org in your followups.

Bug#589706: SSLv2 should be disabled

2010-07-20 Thread Kees Cook
Package: openssl
Version: 0.9.8o-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch, security
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu maverick ubuntu-patch

Since SSLv2 is considered dangerous, it should be removed from OpenSSL. It
hasn't be available in NSS or GnuTLS for a very long time.

This patch implements a form for disabling SSLv2 -- all contexts have
NO_SSL2 set, and the ssl2 method is rejected in SSL_CTX_new (similar to how
FIPS mode works).

Thanks,

-Kees

Bug#544274: Confirming fix.

2010-07-20 Thread Johan Grönqvist

Hi,

In my role as someone reporting an issue here, I just wanted to confirm
that my problems seem to have been fixed, and thank you for your
efforts. I use a mixed squeeze/sid system, and today I re-ran my
program. After an upgrade of libatlas to the version from unstable,
everything seems to work fine in my first attempts.

Thanks for your work!

Johan

Hello,

I agree, and the dependency on libbrasero should indeed be demoted to a
Recommends.
However, gThumb is not safe when compiled with librasero support and run
without it. In fact, it's missing the library:

$ gthumb
gthumb: error while loading shared libraries: libbrasero-burn.so.0: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

I'll forward this upstream, to see if they could use dlopen() for the
image-CD-burning code.

Kindly,

Bug#586271: Not reproducible anymore with gThumb 2.11.5 + glib 2.24.1

2010-07-20 Thread David Paleino
Hello,
I could confirm this with an experimental libglib2.0-0 installed (I had an
out-of-date 2.25.6-1). Once downgrading libglib2.0-0 to sid again (2.24.1-1), I
can't reproduce it anymore, at least with gThumb 2.11.5.

Would you please be so kind to check if this still happens? Maybe upstream
fixed it in 2.11.5 in the meanwhile. I just uploaded it to sid, so it should
become available in the repositories soon.

Have a nice day,
David

Bug#589683: reportbug: spews useless information messages when spawing editor

2010-07-20 Thread Bruce Sass
retitle 589683 Kate needs a quiet option
stop

Hi,

Fair enough... I'm so use to verbose KDE apps that I automatically put
them in the background and redirect output when I start one from a
command line--of course everyone else should do the same. :D

I tried a couple other visual editors, xjed and xemacs, neither of
them sent any output to the X-term. So, indeed, this is a problem with
Kate which makes it rather less than suitable as a system's VISUAL
editor.

Note: although I use a local build of KDE3 (KDE4 eats up too many
resources on this older box), and the Kate that comes with KDE4 is
somewhat less verbose than the one from KDE3, it still spews out a lot
of generally useless messages and doesn't appear to have a quiet
option.

 Hello Bruce,
this seems to me a bug (even if at wishlist severity) in kate: if you
want them to stop print those lengthy messages, ask them :) I can't
redirect all output from text editor to dev/null or so: there might
be cases when having their output on screen is useful, without going
to look in another place (or in no place at all, as in /d/null), but
I understand the startup of kate is really verbose.

I'm assigning this bug to the kate package.

 Sandro

Bug#589708: guilt: undeclared dependency on git ( 1:1.8)

2010-07-20 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: guilt
Version: 0.33-1
Severity: serious
Justification: policy §3.5
Tags: patch

Hi Iulian, :)

guilt has some code that in my opinion should be patched out in Debian:

| case $gitver in
| 1.5.*) ;; # git config
| 1.6.*) ;; # git config
| 1.7.*) ;; # git config
|   *)  die Unsupported version of git ($gitver) ;;
| esac

The problem with this code is that it goes behind the package
manager’s back and makes the code obsolete before it really should
be. Because previous versions of guilt would error out when run
with git 1.7.x, now git is going to need to Breaks: old versions of
guilt. Which imposes a constraint during upgrades:

guilt has to be deconfigured before git is upgraded.

That’s even in cases like Bug#576937 where the only incompatibility
between guilt and new git was that created by this check!

Now _upstream_ such a check makes sense because some people are
installing guilt without a package manager. So I think we should
patch it out for Debian, and handle backward incompatibilities
by adding Breaks: to git where necessary.

However, that is not what this patch is about. This patch just
gets dependencies correct for the current situation, where guilt
is going to break itself once git 1.8 comes out... we might as
well declare it.

Thoughts welcome, as always.

A fixed number of entries is fine to workaround the issue, what matters

I recommend taking some margin space, e.g. MAX(number of messages in

Given that the number of entries is unlikely to change, isn't it easier
to use the current number of entries?

The next time you need a new entry, you can reserve 19 more entries.

Upstream appears to be dead.

Sorry, no. It is up to the maintainer to decide if this is the case.

Ah, now I see what's going on. My local pbuildd rebuilder script uses a
pbuilder hook script which creates a dummy version like 4.0.1~rc3-1+pb1 in
debian/changelog, so apt doesn't confuse the rebuilt package with the
 official
binary package. I guess that's triggering the code to rebuild Debian
 packaging files, which needs linux-support-*.

Only +b\d is a binary rebuild, anything else is not. So this test will
not provide any evidence. However the code is really missing.

But for the start, please elaborate the reason for the initial severity.

Bug#589711: mailfront: Inconsistent documentation-behaviour about where qmail backend tries to find qmail-queue

2010-07-20 Thread chafar
Package: mailfront
Version: 1.11-1
Severity: important

This is an upstream bug, but it makes debian package to fail in some
circumstances.

/usr/share/doc/mailfront/backend-qmail.html states that qmail-queue location is
expected where, first, $QMAILQUEUE says, or, second, as
$QMAILHOME/bin/qmail-queue
names, while previously say that $QMAILHOME defaults to /var/qmail.

This is broken whithin the code: function data_start(), within backend-qmail,
resolves
qmail-queue location _before_ resolving $QMAILHOME, so the 'second' assumption
above
turns mistaken.

Bug#589713: multistrap calls dpkg-architecture without depending on dpkg-dev

multistrap doesn't depend, recommend or even suggest dpkg-dev, which
 contains dpkg-architecture.

Solution would be adding missing Depends/Recommends field or, if
 appropriate - replacing it with `dpkg --print-architecture`.

dpkg-dev is not a suitable dependency for what is just a shortcut /
convenience wrapper, so using dpkg --print-architecture instead.

Thanks for spotting this.

Bug#589716: tgtd target will not start unless it's configured with allow-in-use yes

2010-07-20 Thread Chris Cheney
Package: tgt
Version: 1:1.0.4-1
Severity: important

tgt-admin will not start a target unless we specify the allow-in-use
yes directive in the target declaration. It complains that the device
is in use, although I am positive it is not. Specifying allow-in-use
yes is not recommended, and doing so is not really satisfactory.

This appears to have been caused by a faulty system call which appears
to be corrected by the below patch.

Thanks,

Hi,

MFPs have always been an issue in that regard; only ACLs could fix this,
unfortunately it's not natively supported by udev. Maybe I could change
the libsane rules so they add the scanner group in the ACLs instead of
 using GROUP=?

Would that be a viable solution?

If that can be made to work in such a way that nothing changes from the
user point of view, then I'm all for it. I have no idea however how to
 achieve that.

Remove GROUP=, use RUN+= to call setfacl.

Would probably work, but this needs to be verified :)

Thanks for the upload, unfortunately there wer copyright issues with the

Hi!

The cron runs fetch-crl with the --quiet flag, which suppresses warnings
but prints errors.

The developers considers this to be an error rather than a warning. Do
you not consider this to be a valid error message? Would you rather see
it fail silently?

Could you please explain why you consider the output of an error message
to render the package unusable?

Bug#589592: numpy.get_include() returns the wrong string

2010-07-20 Thread David Ham
I think this error is similar to one I am seeing and it appears to be
caused by numpy.get_include() returning the wrong string.

python -c 'import numpy; print numpy.get_include()'

produces:

/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/numpy/core/include

but _numpyconfig.h and indeed all other header files under that path are
actually in:

/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/numpy/core/include/numpy

Description : cache for WMS tiles

Mapping clients, such as OpenLayers or GoogleMaps, render WMS (Web Map
Service) tiles every time they are queried, which can result in
unnecessary processing and increased waiting times.
 .
GeoWebCache optimizes this experience by saving (caching) map tiles as
they are requested, in effect acting as a proxy between client (such
as OpenLayers or Google Maps) and server (such as GeoServer, or any
WMS-compliant server). As new maps and tiles are requested,
GeoWebCache intercepts these calls and returns pre-rendered tiles if

2.8.4-1 package, but as far as I know it is fixed in 2.8.5-1.

I am.

This is the post install script in 2.8.5-1. Note the period at the end
 of the update-rc.d command:

Same for me.

Offending line is this one:
   update-rc.d fetch-crl-boot start 20 . stop 20 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 . /dev/null

Notice that *no* runlevels are given for start. It looks like
update-rc.d cannot handle this situation.

I consider this to be a valid error message and it is good otherwise I
would not have known that the package does not work at all.

Could you please explain why you consider the output of an error message
 to render the package unusable?

The package simply does nothing except for generating this error message
four times a day. Especially it does not update any crls. I should
probably have been more precise about this.

Says who? I think the package is still in use (though it has
been sadly neglected in hte last couple of month, though that is changing)

As the in-kernel solution is undocumented it is not of much use to the
general user base, only to the guru who implemented it and his/her close

On the other hand, k-p comes with extensive documentation and there are
many howtos on the web.

It is a trouble with initramfs and kernel-package integration.

Have you tried the initramfs scripts that come with

Actually this turns out to be an issue with Debian kernels as well:

Note that with k-p initramfs-tools are configured after the kernel while
with Dedian kernels they are configured before the kernel.

# we're good - create initramfs. update runs do_bootloader

The example script is different, though:

# passing the kernel version is required
[ -z $version ] exit 1

if [ -n $vmlinuz_location ]; then
# Where is the image located? We'll place the initrd there.
boot=$(dirname $vmlinuz_location)
bootarg=-b $boot
fi

#
if which update-initramfs /dev/null ; then
update-initramfs -c -t -k $version $bootarg
fi

For Debian official kernel an initramfs is created, for kernel-package
  it is not.

 This is documented, i think.

 Please read /usr/share/doc/kernel-package/README for
instructions on how to get an initramfs.

Indeed, it is well documented in current kernel-package.

Thanks

Bug#541322: #541322: global fails to install if hostname --fqdn fails

2010-07-20 Thread Julien-externe BLACHE
tag 541322 - pending
thanks

Hi,

This bug has been marked pending for close to a year, but no upload
occured to fix it. I'm removing the pending tag which is just plain
misleading now.

I've run into this bug and it'd be nice if it could be fixed or worked
around. AIUI htconfig relates to the CGI interface, so in the worst case
skipping the call if hostname --fqdn fails doesn't look like a big deal.

JB.

The first thing I can tell is that this line does not fail, so it would
definitely lower the severity or close the bug.

On the other hand I do not know whether this is what you intend. This
way update-rc.d does not touch startup links for fetch-crl-boot. So if a
user messed them up, the update-rc.d will not fix it.

I would not exclude the possibility of a bug in update-rc.d either.
Maybe nobody tried to add a script that is only stopped but never
started, but update-rc.d could be supporting the syntax you (or some dh
script?) used. I therefore pulled in the sysvinit maintainers.

Bug#589534: grub2: grub-mkconfig partition detection neither reliable nor intuitive

2010-07-20 Thread Vladimir 'φ-coder/phcoder' Serbinenko
On 07/18/2010 04:56 PM, Josef Spillner (kuarepoti-dju.net) wrote:
 Package: grub2
 Version: 1.98-1
 Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

My harddisk (sda) started to show bad blocks so I've installed another one
 (sdb) and cloned the
system to it with dd_rescue. What happens now when I run update-grub or
 grub-mkconfig on the old
system booted from sda, it sets root=sdb1 and generates the kernel list in
 grub.cfg from the ones
available in sdb1's /boot menu for both the sda grub as well as the sdb
 grub.
This is either great supercow intelligence to not use the kernels on the
(still active) old hard disk anymore, or (more probably)
a bug in grub2. It means that the mere existence of a new hard disk in the
 physical system, without even
mounting it, changes grub2's behaviour, which is certainly not a good
 idea.

 In the file /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib, function
 prepare_grub_to_access_device(), only /dev/sdb1 is
given as an argument, but not /dev/sda1. Both partitions contain their
 disk's system directories including /boot.
I've added a DEVICE debug statement which shows up in the attached
 configuration file grub.cfg.

I couldn't find information in the ultra-minimalistic manual pages for
 grub-install, update-grub,
grub-mkconfig etc. what the desired behaviour is to compare it to the
 actual behaviour. In my view,
the desired behaviour would be to include all kernels from all partitions
grub2 works on and place the
list into all grub2 installations. The latter part is currently working,
 the former is not.

To summarise graphically, when running update-grub from the sda system we
 get:
 * in /dev/sda's boot menu: kernels on sdb1 + custom entries from sdb1
 * in /dev/sdb's boot menu: kernels on sdb1 + custom entries from sdb1

 Instead of:
 * in /dev/sda's boot menu: kernels on sda1 + sdb1 + custom entries from
 sda1 + sdb1
 * in /dev/sdb's boot menu: kernels on sda1 + sdb1 + custom entries from
 sda1 + sdb1

There are few possible problems leading to this behaviour:
1) (Most likely) since Debian uses UUIDs and if you forgot to change
UUIDs and update /etc/fstab for ne UUIDs you actually always load the
system from sdb even when you think you load from sda. Following excerpt
speak in favor of this hypothesis:
 *** BEGIN /proc/mounts
 /dev/disk/by-uuid/384493f8-0bc2-4e63-8ff1-cdce440b4279 / ext3
 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,data=ordered 0 0
 *** END /proc/mounts

2) Less likely: bug in grub-probe. After you're absolutely sure that
sda1 and not sdb1 is mounted at / execute:
sudo grub-probe -t device /
and post the result.
 *** BEGIN /boot/grub/device.map
 (hd0) /dev/sda
 *** END /boot/grub/device.map

Bug#589730: perl-doc: perlunicode(1) man page suggests the :utf8 layer, which can be unsafe

2010-07-20 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: perl-doc
Version: 5.10.1-13
Severity: important

The perlunicode(1) man page gives bad information, which can lead to
write unsafe code. It says:

  Input and Output Layers
Perl knows when a filehandle uses Perl's internal Unicode
encodings (UTF-8, or UTF-EBCDIC if in EBCDIC) if the filehandle
is opened with the :utf8 layer. Other encodings can be
converted to Perl's encoding on input or from Perl's encoding
on output by use of the :encoding(...) layer. See open.

It should warn against the usage of the :utf8 layer, and
Other encodings is misleading as one may think that the
UTF-8 encoding is not concerned by the :encoding(...) layer,
while one should use :encoding(UTF-8) instead of :utf8.

I'm sorry, but this doesn't fix my problem. I've installed and run this
new release, but I still have the problem that the commandline or editing
mode is left, when I hold down an arrow key.

I think that for some reason your ieee1275 is slower than the nominal
9600. Try following patch:

Bug#554790: This breaks device.map on upgrade

This fix, at least in its current form, has a potential to break grub for
users having more than one drive, unless they are careful enough to check
 and
 fix their device.map after upgrade.

Old mkdevicemaps assigned grub device numbers in the sort order of kernel
device names, which was right more often than not. On the other hand, the
 sort
order of (pretty much random) stable names, used by new version, is
 extremely
unlikely to have any correlation to grub device order.

Included is a rough patch which preserves the kernel-name order for grub
 devices when generating device.map.

I like this idea; it seems that it ought to minimise the likelihood of
upheaval due to the change in device.map generation. I agree that
nothing is particularly guaranteed here but it would be nice to try to
minimise the chances of problems, if only to try to reduce the number of
people who find they need to ask for help on #grub ...

Vladimir, would this patch need a copyright assignment? Most of it
seems pretty straightforward; in fact I doubt that it would come out
very much different if I'd written it from scratch.

No need of copyright assignment for this patch.
I've made a number of changes to this patch to fix up formatting and to
behave a bit closer to the way I expect; in particular it's necessary to
compare by -stable if comparing by -kernel returns zero, for the
reasons previously explained in a comment.

Vadim's original patch is quoted here, followed by my amended version
 with a ChangeLog entry.

Generate device.map in something closer to the old ordering.

   * util/deviceiter.c (struct device): New declaration.
   (compare_file_names): Rename to ...
(compare_devices): ... this. Sort by kernel name in preference
to the stable by-id name, but keep the latter as a fallback
   comparison. Update header comment.
(grub_util_iterate_devices) [__linux__]: Construct and sort an
array of `struct device' rather than of plain file names.

Go ahead.

 It would be nice
if instead of aborting, w3m simply disabled the relevant features and
continued to act as a pager.

It is caused by boehm GC.
w3m heavily depends on boehm GC, cannot disable it.
So, I am sorry to tag wontfix.

Bug#589731: python-scipy: missing source for Cython-generated files

2010-07-20 Thread Jakub Wilk

Source: python-scipy
Version: 0.7.2-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

The source tarball contains two *.c files that were generated by Cython:

$ grep -r 'Generated by Cython' .
./scipy/spatial/ckdtree.c:/* Generated by Cython 0.12.1 on Mon Feb 8 18:11:01
2010 */
./scipy/stats/vonmises_cython.c:/* Generated by Cython 0.12.1 on Mon Feb 8
18:10:52 2010 */

However, there are Cython sources for these files included in the
.orig.tar.gz.
