Bug#616156: vlc: VLC bookmark buffer overflow

Bug#628458: Please add /opt to base-files
Package: base-files Version: 6.4 Severity: wishlist Hi, Eddy Petrișor wrote[1]: I've just found this bug and I must say is a real pain for vendors which package stuff which installs in /opt. I also found an easy way to reproduce the bug. See the bottom of this message for details. As a test one of the guys at work made /opt a symlink and we observed that, although other directories were present in /opt, after the removal of any of the packages that has files in /opt, the symlink is gone somewhere right after or during prerm. I would only expect that to happen when the last package owning /opt is removed. But that much sounds believable, which makes this sound like a good reason to add /opt to base-files. Bug#628459: migemo: fails if /usr/bin/ruby points to /usr/bin/ruby1.9.x
Package: migemo Version: 0.40-10 Severity: important /usr/bin/migemo uses /usr/bin/ruby, which is now handle with the alternavies system. By default, ruby points to /usr/bin/ruby1.8, that's ok for migemo. However, if ruby points to /usr/bin/ruby1.9.1, migemo causes LoadError. | $ migemo | /usr/bin/migemo:13: warning: variable $KCODE is no longer effective; ignored | internal:lib/rubygems/custom_require:29:in `require': no such file to load -- migemo (LoadError) | from internal:lib/rubygems/custom_require:29:in `require' | from /usr/bin/migemo:15:in `main' The migemo package places the library files in /usr/lib/ruby/1.8. Also, /usr/bin/migemo seems to use ruby1.8 features such as $KCODE. Probably, using ruby1.8 instead of ruby fixes this bug. Thanks, -- Tatsuya Kinoshita pgp73UztgnUsI.pgp Description: PGP signature

I attached a new version of patch 043_hurd_ioctl. Sure, it looks like that will work. From the perspective of OpenAFS and other AFS implementations, it is a little annoying to have to make a special case for Hurd for the ioctl number if and when Hurd support is added... but I'd expect a lot of things to require Hurd special-cases, anyway. Bug#625524: When is source not source?
Firstly, what do you mean no source? These are source. Yes jquery-1.2.6.min.js is a compressed version, but jquery.js which is the uncompressed (source) version of it is also provided. Second, the files in jsb/upload are used to upload the bot to Google App Engine. These files don't run on Debian, so removing them from the distro and using the libjs-jquery won't work. The files need to be there so the jsb-release program can generate a proper directory for uploading all the stuff that is needed for GAE. I'm proposing to close this bug unless you can explain why you think there is still a problem. -- Jeremy Malcolm PhD LLB (Hons) B Com Internet and Open Source lawyer, consumer advocate, geek host -t NAPTR 1.0.8.0.3.1.2.9.8.1.6.e164.org|awk -F! I'm unable to try the ones since 270.* and later, since I'm unable to attempt to use 3d. Whenever I do, my graphics cards temperature increases rapidly to over 80*C and doesn't stop until 100*C within a minute or so of use. And since I don't want to risk further harm to the system, I'll be unable to attempt to use the latest ones. Once I have a computer with an nvidia card again, I'll resume testing. But until then, this bug will have to stay as it currently is(which i imagine is unconfirmed) or whatever it is. I hope to have a new one within the next few months. Bug#617219: DNS-323 tests
Hi Manuel, Did you have a chance to perform these tests? * Martin Michlmayr t...@cyrius.com [2011-05-05 20:35]: Regarding the DNS-323 firmware issue we discussed a few months ago (that revision changed from 3 to 4): Manuel Roeder agreed to do some tests on his B1 DNS-323. * Manuel Roeder manuel_roe...@gmx.de [2011-05-05 12:46]: Testing is no Problem, I even got a serial Port to check what went wrong. Please send the images and/or link and I will give it a try. Just to summarize the problem again: Debian (or rather, dns323-firmware-tools) currently uses a revision 3 in the image. However, the firmware on C1 DNS-323 machines uses a revision 4 and rejects images with a revision of 3. The question is whether revision 4 images are accepted by the current and old DNS-323 firmware images on A1 and B1 machines (testing one is enough since they use the same firmware). If so, we can move our image to revision 4 and it will work on all DNS-323 devices. Dominic Evans found the following revisions to be used in the DNS-323 firmware: dns323_firmware_103: 00 dns323_firmware_104: 01 dns323_firmware_105: 03 dns323_firmware_106: 04 dns323_firmware_107: 04 dns323_firmware_108: 04 dns323_firmware_109: 04 So imho it would be good to test version 1.03, 1.04, 1.05 and 1.08 (1.09 is apparently not available for B1 devices). Manuel, can you download 1.03, 1.04, 1.05 and 1.08 from http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?c=Product_Cchildpagename=DLinkEurope-GB/DLTechProductcid=1197319419183p=1197318962293packedargs=QuickLinksParentID%3D1197319419183%26locale%3D1195806691854%26packedargs%3Df9ffeaf4e83ab6d0166b8cc93b23ebbc3d83540f46ceb58f26706558f9479c4ec3df1411a95e2d40b8161bf516969212f4b253493c501653965d4b39148b4c34pagename=DLinkEurope-GB/DLWrapper and then check if it's possible to upgrade to this firmware image: http://people.debian.org/~tbm/tmp/dns-323/netboot.img (This is a Debian installer image with revision 4) In other words, install the 1.03 DNS-323 firmware and try to upgrade to the Debian installer image mentioned above. Then try the same with 1.04, etc. For my own curiosity, it would also be interesting to see if the revision 3 firmware of the installer is accepted by 1.08: http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/stable/main/installer-armel/current/images/orion5x/network-console/d-link/dns-323/netboot.img According to Dominic's, 1.08 uses rev 4 and should therefore reject the Debian installer image but nobody has reported this problem yet (therefore, I'm curious whether this is really the case or not). In all cases, you just need to check if the DNS-323 firmware accepts the Debian image. You don't actually need to run Debian installer. Also, maybe it's a good idea to temporarily remove your hard drive so the DNS-323 firmware won't destroy your existing Debian installation. Bug#593934: smstools: missing documentation
* Riccardo Magliocchetti riccardo.magliocche...@gmail.com, 2011-05-25, 09:50: Ping :) I was looking for the examples scripts, found this bug and just rebuilding the 3.1.14 package in sid with debuild, without applying Jakub's patch, added the missing files to the i386 package. Yes. Bug#628458: Please add /opt to base-files
El 29/05/11 08:25, Jonathan Nieder escribió: Package: base-files Version: 6.4 Severity: wishlist Hi, Eddy Petrișor wrote[1]: I've just found this bug and I must say is a real pain for vendors which package stuff which installs in /opt. Santiago, what do you think? Hmm, do you mean the change made in 2.2.14 is not enough? /opt is created by default on every new install since Debian 3.0. It is not part of the package itself to give users the freedom to remove it if they wish and not see it recreated at every base-files upgrade, as no part of Debian needs it. If you remove it but you still need it, why do you blame base-files? I don't see why this is reported as a bug against base-files. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#623113: cupt: Does not work with InRelease files
severity 623113 wishlist quit I decided to handle it another way. Starting with 2.1.0, Cupt does not share index cache files with APT anymore and hence does not need to follow its internal layout changes. This effectively turns this bug into wishlist one. Bug#621833: System users: removing them
On Sun, May 01, 2011 at 03:06:00PM +0100, Ian Jackson wrote: Steve Langasek writes (Re: Bug#621833: System users: removing them): On Tue, Apr 12, 2011 at 09:31:47PM +0200, sean finney wrote: I second your original proposal though, that packages must not delete system users that they have created. I don't think anyone had objections to that, and the question is whether things should be taken further. I do object to telling maintainers they must not delete system users, without also giving guidance on how and when to lock the accounts. Yes, I agree with this. Sorry, no time at the moment to propose verbiage to reconcile this with your concerns. I think the right thing to do would be to have deluser lock (rather than delete) system users when invoked in the way currently used by maintainer scripts. Provided that doesn't make interactive use of deluser break somehow. I've been looking at how this might be accomplished right now, and have these observations to make. (These are WRT my addition and removal of the sbuild user in the sbuild package.) 1) Locking on removal. This is as simple as doing (in postrm) # Lock sbuild account. usermod -U -e 1 sbuild However, one does now need to consider how unlocking will occur if the package is reinstalled, which I don't think has been covered as yet: 2) Reinstallation. I'm currently using this logic (in postinst) # Create dedicated sbuild user if ! getent passwd sbuild /dev/null; then adduser --system --quiet --home /var/lib/sbuild --no-create-home \ --shell /bin/bash --ingroup sbuild --gecos Debian source builder sbuild fi However, consider that if the account is locked, the user already exists and no unlocking will occur, leaving the reinstalled package broken. This logic is common to many packages. I've added this after the above to unlock if locked: # Unlock account in case it was locked from previous purge. usermod -U -e '' sbuild This appears to reverse the locking, via inspection of the shadow record. However, isn't documented as a valid value for EXPIRE_DATE (it's the default in /etc/default/useradd though). Given the need to consider unlocking as well as locking, I'm not sure it's worth adding special support to deluser: the typical logic used to create the user will be insufficient to unlock, so it's no less the effort to add an explict unlock/lock to the maintainer scripts, dropping use of deluser entirely. I do agree that a --local option would be a valuable and useful addition to the adduser and deluser etc. tools, even if currently a no-op. However, due to the above I don't think that adding special-case user locking to deluser is the correct course of action. Regards, Roger -- .''`. Bug#623052: Resolved - lxterminal directory
I was able to resolve this by opening up the directory using chmod 777, opening lxterminal, changing/saving the preferences as desired, then did a chmod 555 to make the lxterminal directory read-only after this (although it still lists root as the owner). This bug can be marked as resolved. Thank you. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#628480: linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-amd64: System hangs after reboot command
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.32-34squeeze1 Severity: important The system fails to actually reboot after the reboot command. Everything shuts down normally, but the machine doesn't start up again. The only way to get it to start is to physically remove power and cold boot the machine. According to policy 7.2 you cannot rely on the depends being available during purge, only the essential packages are available for sure. Filing this as important because a.) it's a clear policy violation (to not clean up at purge) b.) having a piuparts clean archive is a release goal since lenny and c.) this package being piuparts buggy blocks packages depending on it from being tested by piuparts (and thus possibly the detection of more severe problems). Fixed in git. This was done by dropping account removal entirely as recommended in current discussions. We now lock the account on removal, and unlock on reinstall. Regards, Roger -- .''`. Bug#628481: debclean: please respect the option 'unapply-patches' in debian/source/local-options
Package: devscripts Version: 2.10.69 Severity: normal File: /usr/bin/debclean Hi, In source format 3.0, the option 'unapply-patches' (usually set in debian/source/local-options) is used to indicate that patches are to be unapplied after building the package. This is commongly used when the package itself is maintained in a VCS that contains unpatched upstream source and where you want to keep the tree unpatched even after a package build. Having 'debuild clean' and 'debclean' respecting this setting would streamline the workflow with source format 1.0, where a 'debclean' restores the source tree to a state that allows further VCS operations such as investigating and committing changes easily. Thanks for considering. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

The attached patch goes a bit further in optimising (and making redirection syntax consistent). The idea is: one needs not echo:ing anything when the one and only need is to truncate/touch a file. IOW, this: echo -n file and this: file will truncate file, the latter without emploing help from echo. Bug#617492: [SPAM] Xdm no longer reads Xresources
I also had this issue when I used dash as /bin/sh, and from gdm. In .xsession-errors there were some error messages about spurious (. My guess is dash is not happy with bashisms in scripts, certainly $(. In any case I think that using bashisms in system scripts is a very bad idea. -- Pat -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#586685: User's .Xauthority file is ignored
Package: gdm3 Version: 2.30.5-10 Followup-For: Bug #586685 -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi! I also found this change annoying. I am using emacsclient which spawns a new frame on the current DISPLAY using the XAUTHORITY from the current running process. Since ssh adds the appropriate cookie to ~/.Xauthority, emacs running process does not have the correct cookie since it is looking in /var/lib/gdm3/.../database. What is the rationale of putting Xauthority file in /var/lib/gdm3 instead of its standard location? Bug#617450: [buildd-tools-devel] Bug#617450: sbuild: Please include lintian status in the bottom summary
On Wed, Mar 09, 2011 at 02:05:54AM +0100, Cyril Brulebois wrote: it'd be nice if we could have a “lintian: ACK/NACK”-like line in the bottom summary. ACK/NACK could mention the highest level, like: - Errors - Warnings - OK / All green / Good to go / whatever. Having the actual issues listed right after that would make sense to me. That would match debuild's behaviour (running lintian after the build; but you could run it where it is done currently, and only save the output for later), and would make lintian's output (if there's an issue) more visible. Done. Note that it currently looks like this: Lintian: policy violation due to using the pre-existing reasons: if ($?) { my $why = unknown reason; $why = runtime error if ($status == 2); $why = policy violation if ($status == 1); $why = received signal . $? 127 if ($? 127); $self-log_error(Lintian run failed ($why)\n); $self-set('Lintian Reason', $why); We can, of course, alter this to make the summary values more simple/ informative for automated processing. Due to being based solely upon the exit status, this can not pick up if non-fatal warnings were issued--we would need to parse the lintian output for that. We should probably shorten the text values to e.g. 0: successful 1: policy-violation 2: fatal-signal *: unknown-error (i.e. remove whitespace). We could alternatively do something even simpler e.g. pass/fail/error. Let me know which you prefer; I think I would prefer pass/fail/error for simplicity--the detail will always be in the main log (adding the actual lintian issues to the summary is probably impractical--it's there in RFC-822 format so buildd can consume it at a later date). Bug#569483: NMU
Yeah, I've used the patch on my servers for quite some time (I wrote it) without problems. AFAIK it has more users, including users of the FreeBSD spamass-milter port http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=155979, I just kept losing it on upgrades. I just did another rebuild so it's on my main mailserver again. I hope we can have it upstream now. :-) Just went through the whole diff once more, found no issues. I'm attaching the newest version that should apply cleanly on 0.3.1-10. Bug#628485: RM: saods9 -- RoQA; RC buggy, orphaned, abandoned
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal For some reason, when libtktable2.9 was removed on 2011-04-20, saods9 which has a build-dependency and runtime dependency was not removed. This led to one of the RC bugs but another still exists and the package build process is quite a mess. saods9 was removed from testing but it is still orphaned after 3 years with the last ITA interest in 2010. science-astronomy currently has a Suggests: on saods9, so there appears to be no reason to retain saods9 in unstable. Time to remove saods9 from unstable please. -- Neil Williams = codeh...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#626877: pmake: Hardcoded paths to libraries breaks multiarch
Hi I installed Ubuntu's libc: libc6-dev, libc-dev-bin, libc-bin, libc6, locales, -libc6-i686. I applied the patch and rebuild pmake which I also installed. I installed the remaining build dependencies of makefs. I built makefs without problems. Without the patch, it FTBFS with pmake: don't know how to make /usr/lib/libc.a. Stop So as a summary: the patch should be applied and fixes this bug. Cheers Luk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#628488: [ecryptfs-utils] Need a way to stop pam_ecryptfs from automounting Private directory on login
Package: ecryptfs-utils Version: 83-4 Severity: wishlist I'd like not to have ~/Private directory automatically mounted on login, but instead I want to mount it manually, entering a password. It was mentioned, that one can just remove the auto-mount file in order to stop ~/Private from being auto-(u)mounted, but this obviously does not work, see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=612160 . Also see Ubuntu bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-utils/+bug/256154 , comments #4 to #8. So, if it will not be fixed, I need an another way to disable this auto-mounting. --- System information. --- Architecture: amd64 Kernel: Linux 2.6.38.6-zen-3 Debian Release: wheezy/sid 500 testing ftp.de.debian.org --- Package information. --- Depends(Version) | Installed -+-== libc6 (= 2.2.5) | 2.13-4 libecryptfs0 | 83-4 libgpg-error0 (= 1.6-1) | 1.10-0.3 libgpgme11(= 1.1.2) | 1.2.0-1.3 libkeyutils1 | 1.4-4 libpam0g (= 0.99.7.1) | 1.1.2-3 gettext-base | 0.18.1.1-3 keyutils | 1.4-4 libnss3-1d | 3.12.9.with.ckbi.1.82-1 libpam-runtime (= 1.0.1-6) | 1.1.2-3 Package's Recommends field is empty. Bug#533589: ITP: bt747 -- update information
FTR, I contacted with upstream and he was very responsive :-) Some problems are solved or will be, but I need two exernal libraries that are not in Debian: * libjchart2d-java: there is an ITP[0], hopefully we'll have this! * libsanselan-java: I requested for it [1]. It would be great if someone would like to package it (maybe Debian Java Team?). I had a look at it and it's built with Maven.
