Bug#672537: Unnecessary? dependency on clamav-daemon
Why should clamav-unofficial-sigs be the clamd watchdog? If clamd is actually being used, its caller can (and almost surely will) throw errors. I run clamd on (some) servers as well, so I'm familiar with those use cases too. -- Richard signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

I am unable to reproduce this bug on my machines, and it really looks like an environment specific bug. I am therefore not planning to work on this bug. If someone is able to reproduce it, please work on it. Hi there. I created VMware virtual machines based on the following ISOs. debian-6.0.5-amd64-netinst.iso debian-wheezy-DI-a1-amd64-netinst.iso I wanted to use qemu, but I couldn't get kvm to work so it was too slow. I ran through the eglibc build on both of them. The 6.0.5 installation built eglibc-2.11.3 successfully. Which is kind of expected, given we don't check for testsuite results on stable version of the libc. This is for example to avoid breaking the stable and security updates in case an incompatible new version of the kernel in installed two years after. The wheezy installation failed to build eglibc-2.13-32 with the following errorsEOF make[2]: Target `check' not remade because of errors. make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/contact/eglibc-2.13' make[1]: *** [check] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/contact/eglibc-2.13/build-tree/amd64-libc' # # Testsuite failures, someone should be working towards # fixing these! Anyway it's not the cause of the failure here, we have disabled it because the test fails often on machines with variable CPU frequency. Can you tell me what your kernel version is, hardware etc? I have not been able to reproduce the issue on: - A Core i5 M560, running a 3.2.0-2-amd64 kernel - A core i5 2500, running a 3.2.0-2-amd64 kernel - An 4 x AMD Opteron 6134, running a 2.6.32-5-amd64 kernel - A KVM instance on a Core i7 2600k, running a 2.6.32-5-amd64 kernel Do you have KDE4 installed? On some of the machines yes. Have you experienced it makes a difference? I really doubt. For squeeze, the default root fs is ext3, for wheezy it's ext4. I really doubt this makes a difference. The problem is clearly that at some point the system is not able to create new threads anymore due to resources limits. In your case it's likely due to the fact you are machine is a virtual VMWare machine. They are listed here for the purpose of # regression testing during builds. # Format:Failed test, ErrorMake error code [(ignored)] # annexc.out, Error 1 (ignored) tst-cpuclock2.out, Error 1 tst-eintr1.out, Error 1 tst-writev.out, Error 1 *** Encountered regressions that don't match expected failures: tst-eintr1.out, Error 1 make: *** [/home/contact/eglibc-2.13/stamp-dir/check_libc] Error 1 dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian/rules build gave error exit status 2 debuild: fatal error at line 1350: dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -D -us -uc -b -j4 failed EOF I suspended the VM part way through which may account for the cpuclock2 error. Have you tried to run the build on a real hardware? Yep. When I reported the bug. I used VMware to build installations that are pure - no third party repos, using defaults except for KDE4 which I dislike less than Gnome. Essentially I've gotten failures on two hardware types - one real, the other virtual, but running on the same machine. Given that I've had no crashes otherwise, it's hard to conceive that the problemonly surfaces when building eglibc. Are there any hardware test suites I can run to eliminate this as the potential cause of these failures? Bug#673937: incorrect importing of ligatures from PDF files (certain fonts)
Package: inkscape Version: 0.48.3.1-1+b1 When importing a PDF file with text that contains a ligature, inkscape replaces the ligature with the Unicode replacement character . This occurs with some fonts and not with others. To reproduce the problem: - create a new document - text tool, insert text such as ifuflff - change font to an affected font (examples given below) - save document as PDF (sample attached) - (document displays correctly using evince) - open document using inkscape, with replace fonts by closest enabled - observe Unicode replacement character instead of ligatures Free fonts on my system which lead to this problem: - Charis SIL (in TTF, from package fonts-sil-charis) - Fanwood Text (in OTF, from http://www.theleagueofmoveabletype.com/fanwood) - Goudy Bookletter 1911 (in OTF, from package ttf-goudybookletter (sic)) A font which does not display the problem: - Linux Libertine O (in OTF, from package fonts-linuxlibertine) This seems to be different from upstream bug #271614 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/271614). Bug#673170: xfonts-100dpi: fonts not available until X restarted

Alas: [...] $ xlsfonts | grep lucida $ [...] Perhaps this could be documented somewhere, or it could be automatically done by the calling maintainer script for the local X server? The problem is still present: after installing X fonts on a pretty ordinary setup, they are not available for use. Most new users are not going to know about xset fp rehash. They're also not going to be using xmessage, and client-side fonts are immediately picked up by fontconfig/xft/... on install. So I think this is a non-issue. That would be a reason not to package xfonts-100dpi at all, right? I was using xmessage and xlsfonts to debug. The actual affected program was xvile. I can imagine users running into this problem with xterm as well. Should I reassign this to xfonts-100dpi where it can be ignored until someone has time for it, or to debhelper (dh_installfonts) which is probably the right place to fix it? Bug#668597: [php-maint] Bug#668597: php5 creates weird files in /
last shot - is your filesystem health ok? It happens on two virtual machines running on the same host server. They're similar but it seems unlikely that they'd suddenly both develop the same defect in their file systems. Obviously the problem is that PHP doesn't know where to put its logs when parsing that deprecated '#'. Then it probably uses some uninitialized data as file name, opens the file associated with that and puts them there. This is nasty. Someone could make the OS allocate a big chunk of memory and repeatedly write '/etc/passwd', then deallocate it and wait for the OS to give some part of that chunk to PHP. Chances are that it would overwrite /etc/passwd then. I have specified a file as error_log in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini and it seems to ignore it: error_log = /var/log/php_error.log Should it write those things to the error log? Or where would they normally end up? I'll do some more experiments tonight. Please don't close the bug, yet. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#673795: Solution for the original NVidia driver
In many years i could only experience one time that the nvidia-package of Debian results in a running X-system. And i installed Debian on many different systems with different NVidia cards. Sorry that's really annoying. Now i could find out why the installation of the original drivers fail with a sigterm message: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/account/questions/detail/i_id/423280 The reason is again a debian script. :-( This kills the NVidia installer and the user thinks the problem is the installation script of NVidia. I know you will damn me for my opinion, but X has to run in a simple way without reading tons of readme's or editing xorg.conf with the vi. The original NVidia driver normally will do this job - install and have direct a running X. Why this is not possible with the debian packages? Bug#673897: closed by Ari Pollak a...@debian.org (Re: Bug#673897: gimp: can't export to XCF)
This is a feature, not a bug. The gimp developers have thought a lot about this, and I'm sure they won't want to change the current behavior. http://gui.gimp.org/index.php/Save_%2B_export_specification This (badly) explains the change to Save. However, it does not provide a hint of a reason why Export would allow every single file type known to Gimp, except for XCF. This looks like singling out this format just to spite the user -- it's a file format like any other, and we're already exporting rather than saving. This just convolutes workflows for no purpose. Also, if XCF isn't listed on the drop-down list like it isn't currently means everyone who types foo.xcf as the name knows what he wants explicitely, so blocking this is weird, and does nothing towards the goal of forcing save to do XCF only. -- âThis is gonna be as easy as cheating on an ethics exam!â -Cerise Brightmoon -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#673942: libreoffice: LibreOffice repeatedly freezes whole system
Hi Juergen This looks similar to 673895[1], which got reported yesterday. Please take a look at that report. The most notable information there is that LO 3.4.6 is unmaintained and won't get any attention, as it will be superseded by 3.5.x in Wheezy. There are some transitions in progress that block 3.5.3 entering testing, but they will be resolved - hopefully soon. If you can't use your system because of this, please consider upgrading your LibreOffice to version from Sid. Personally I think this is not problem in LO per se, but some incompatibilities in LO and newer GNOME, maybe related to architecture. I am using LO on KDE (amd64 here) and I have never encountered any freezes. Bug#672013: FTBFS mit gcc 4.7
forwarded 672013 o...@aspectc.org stop Hi Olaf, Matthias Klose, our GCC maintainer reports a compilation failure with gcc 4.7. Could you perhaps have a look at the compile log pasted into this bugreport? http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=672013 As short-term solution, I think I could work around this by adding -fpermissive to the CFLAGS, but at the end of the day, a proper solution is of course favorable. According to Matthias, adding appropriate this- qualifier should do the trick. Bug#478309: Open and Open folder doesn't in KDE
Package: iceweasel Version: 12.0-7 Followup-For: Bug #478309 Parts of this issue seem to be fixed: - Open Containing Folder works (it opens the right folder in dolphin) - Open works for mp3 and ogv (so probably music and video files) The remaining problem seems to be that Iceweasel doesn't recognise image files (I tested SVG, PNG, JPG) as image files, but as content type file. A work around is to assign a graphic application to file via Iceweasel preferences, but Iceweasel should be able to recognise image files.
