Considering some people may install testing im-config to stable system
manually, I added minor adjustment to your patch.

I had some packages to update, i believe it was kodi, and the system froze.
Restarted, it froze again when i ran dkg --configure -a and aptitude
upgrade again.
Every time the logs show systemd reloading before the freeze.

Just to summarize what I have found about backports support in debian
installer (did I miss something important ?) :
As you pointed out previously, it may be useful to build netboot images
of the debian installer with a newer kernel - and even some newer udebs
from backports.

I investigated, found that it is a defect in FreeType.
None of the comments in

were helpful (some of the information is incorrect).
I made a workaround for this problem in patch #331.
