Standard large ISO filenames are correctly truncated with its extension
but the same does not hold true when using -joliet-long
Example:
This is a really long filename

I have been trying to compile the latest enchant version (1.3.0):

but I have problems with a missing affentry.hxx
Have any of you guys been able to compile enchant into a Debian package?

OK, I've been able to compile enchant into a Debian package.
I just needed to apply this patch to not remove these headers.
If these headers are not really needed they should not be included
directly in the upstream package anyway.

/usr/sbin/ejabberd sets this using '-pa $EBIN_DIR'. I would suggest
amending it to add a /usr/local path (if it exists).
