Bug#769946: upgrade-reports: auto-suspend after login (Wheezy-Jessie upgrade)
Package: upgrade-reports Severity: normal I did the upgrade a month or so ago but didn't have time to properly troubleshoot the problem until now. System: Manufacturer: FUJITSU SIEMENS Product Name: AMILO M 7400 Version: Rev.A After upgrading an old laptop from Wheezy to Jessie, the laptop automatically suspends to RAM shortly after login on a VT. It does not matter whether the session is idle or not. Within XFCE, the laptop does not automatically suspend to RAM. I found that switching from an X session to a VT such as with CTRL-ALT-F1 also triggers this auto-suspend action. When systemd-logind is stopped the laptop does not autosuspend. After setting HandleLidSwitch=ignore in /etc/systemd/logind.conf the laptop no longer auto-suspends. I should note that pressing the laptop's lid switch switches the display off, so this seems to be a case of systemd-logind incorrectly reading the switch's state. Other than this relatively minor issue, the move to Jessie was rather uneventful. Things just worked. Please let me know if I can provide any further info. lspci output: 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller [8086:3580] (rev 02) 00:00.1 System peripheral [0880]: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller [8086:3584] (rev 02) 00:00.3 System peripheral [0880]: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller [8086:3585] (rev 02) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device [8086:3582] (rev 02) 00:02.1 Display controller [0380]: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device [8086:3582] (rev 02) 00:1d.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) USB UHCI Controller #1 [8086:24c2] (rev 03) 00:1d.1 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) USB UHCI Controller #2 [8086:24c4] (rev 03) 00:1d.2 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) USB UHCI Controller #3 [8086:24c7] (rev 03) 00:1d.7 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-M) USB2 EHCI Controller [8086:24cd] (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge [8086:2448] (rev 83) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation 82801DBM (ICH4-M) LPC Interface Bridge [8086:24cc] (rev 03) 00:1f.1 IDE interface [0101]: Intel Corporation 82801DBM (ICH4-M) IDE Controller [8086:24ca] (rev 03) 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) SMBus Controller [8086:24c3] (rev 03) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller [8086:24c5] (rev 03) 00:1f.6 Modem [0703]: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Modem Controller [8086:24c6] (rev 03) 02:03.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394) [0c00]: LSI Corporation FW322/323 [TrueFire] 1394a Controller [11c1:5811] (rev 61) 02:05.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401 100Base-T [14e4:4401] (rev 01) 02:06.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter [8086:1043] (rev 04) 02:09.0 CardBus bridge [0607]: Texas Instruments PCI1510 PC card Cardbus Controller [104c:ac56] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. It's handy to not have to make install each time I want to test something) - The 64bit guest does not crash. - The version in Wheezy (1.1.2+dfsg-6a) does not crash. I pulled the source to get back to revision 38ebb396c955ceb2ef7e246248ceb7f8bfe1b774. Then I merged 5e773833688b49d8a3cce6c75dde8cdc1e0c7807 from git://anonscm.debian.org/pkg-qemu/qemu.git to make packages with fakeroot debian/rules binary. It crashes with the packages. I see qemu-system-x86_64: pci_add_option_rom: failed to find romfile efi-e1000.rom but don't know if that matters. (I'm guessing it doesn't) So at this point - packaged = crash - run from git source = works It's definitely not a build-dependency issue since I didn't build in a clean chroot as I normally would--I built these on my live system. Note that this happens only when you run something 32bit on a 64bit host, 32bit on 32bit is unaffected. I also had this problem with 1.4.0. Booting the iso will fail both with and without KVM acceleration. 1.4.0 had no this bug, so it must be something different. It indeed looks like it's a different problem. Whatever I'm experiencing (with this issue booting a kfreebsd iso) I could reproduce with the 1.4.0 packages. I didn't start testing from git until after 1.5.0 made it to experimental. But at this point. 1.4 is mostly history, we should concentrate on getting 1.5 out as soon as possible, with all the needed fixes, and, more important, on wheezy version which is in stable which will be used by most people. Sounds like a good plan. I'm not sure that I remember correctly what works and what doesn't with 1.1.2 so I'll set up a testbed for my reports. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

* Michael Tokarev m...@tls.msk.ru [27-04-2013 23:42 EEST]: 28.04.2013 00:13, Edward J. Shornock wrote: * Michael Tokarev m...@tls.msk.ru [27-04-2013 10:45 EEST]: so it looks like the instruction stream being optimized is corrupt somehow. So the easier the reproducer is, the more chances we have to track it down. Finding corruptions isn't easy usually. After looking a bit more about this, it might be a trivial bug, -- there are other possible comparison codes in qemu than listed in that function, so it looks like it is actually possible to have that error without corruption. That'd be nice. :) Unfortunately the failures are not consistent but they occur with java related things. Oh. Java-related things. This is actually, well, sort of expected. Java is heavily multithreaded, and qemu in TCG mode is not able to run multi-threaded apps. Some of multi-threaded apps work, but this is just due to luck, not by design. There are some areas in the code which just don't assume MT mode at all, so while one thread is modifying some memory area, another may be reading it, or modifying it differently -- there are a few races which sometimes gets resolved by a good luck, and more often fail. Yes, I figured this could have been the reason, but I didn't think I should make that call since this is wy over my head. Sometimes the postinst for ca-certificates-java succeeds. Sometimes it fails with http://paste.debian.net/hidden/72893826/. I see you're running something inside sbuild environment, but I've no idea how to do that. I'll try to learn how to set up sbuild, but that'll require some time, and wont be done in the near future. That's why I asked for steps to reproduce -- complete steps, including building the environment, -- just a tiny howto, of a sort. Oh, sorry. Perhaps http://www.hellion.org.uk/blog/posts/foreign-chroots-with-schroot-and-qemu/ will suffice, but if not I can write-up something too. [] [mkdir] Created dir: /home/eshornock/src/wrapper_3.5.17_src/test [echo] Build native components using 'make' and Makefile: Makefile-linux-armel-32.make Segmentation fault This is most likely our java multithreaded issue. #2, yielding the tcg fatal error [] [echo] Build native components using 'make' and Makefile: Makefile-linux-armel-32.make /build/buildd-qemu_1.4.0+dfsg-2exp-amd64-r9ctKZ/qemu-1.4.0+dfsg/tcg/tcg.c:1439: tcg fatal error This is the error you reported initially. It may be due to bug in code (not handling all conditionals), and may be due to the same multithreaded issue, when the opcode stream gets corrupt due to two or more threads racing for it. With the result being inconsistent, I think it is the latter. Makes sense. There are some upstream changes past 1.4 (yes, that's 1.4 not 1.1 as will be in wheezy!) in an attempt to address this, but it's just the beginning, much more work needs to be done in this area. (1.4 is equally broken in this context). So, I'm afraid, that isn't easy and quick to fix... I'll be happy to be a guinea pig/tester but code is out of my reach. There was a long thread (in a bugreport) on launchpad about all this multithreading issue in qemu-user, but somehow I can't find it now. I'll try to link it to this bugreport. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#705164: gmpc-plugins: Metadat Handler uses outdated API
* Etienne Millon etienne.mil...@gmail.com [11-04-2013 10:41 EEST]: Hello, I'm afraid that this can't be fixed for wheezy. That's fine, of course, and not unexpected. :) I'm sorry for reporting this so late in the prep for Wheezy but just learned why I couldn't access discogs.com for the last few months yesterday. The newer version of gmpc uses a new system based on libglyr to fetch lyrics, I'll upload a snapshot to experimental ASAP. For a workaround, you can disable the discogs plugin in Music - Preferences - Metadata Handler - uncheck DiscoGS Artist and Album Image Fetcher. Thanks, I did that as soon as I get the answer back from discogs. I just wanted to get this out there so that others that may potentially get bitten by this know that there's a problem (and how to mitigate it). Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for this bug report. It's not a problem in the least. Thanks for all you do with helping make my preferred Linux distribution even better. -- Edward J. * Craig Small csm...@debian.org [08-06-2012 03:38 EEST]: reopen 676381 thankyou On Thu, Jun 07, 2012 at 04:22:24PM +0300, Edward J. Shornock wrote: That's what I'm saying. I'm using a Debian kernel. OK, that's different then (I've had a lot of bug reports regarding problems around ipv6 in a module). I noticed that. ;) Can you check that all three items are not set? I suspect it is to do with the configuration being setup before the interface is configured. For some reason I can reproduce this on two live systems (Sid and Wheezy) but it works perfectly in a Wheezy virtual machine. The settings after boot-up: # awk -F'=' '{print $1}' /etc/sysctl.d/*.conf |while read foo; do sysctl $foo;done net.ipv6.conf.all.use_tempaddr = 2 net.ipv6.conf.default.use_tempaddr = 2 net.ipv6.conf.eth0.use_tempaddr = 0 I've not figured out what's stopping it from working on these two boxes (one is an older system and the other is much beefier). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#596445: consumes 100% of processor after libc6 upgrade

After it unlocked mpdscribble was no longer running. /var/log/kern.log showed: Sep 13 23:27:26 darkside kernel: [70592.386824] mpdscribble[3980]: segfault at 7fffeaee5ff8 ip 7f6d40ede8c5 sp 7fffeaee6018 error 6 in libc-2.11.2.so[7f6d40e68000+158000] Rebuilding mpdscribble solved the extremely high CPU utilization. I did not try downgrading libmpdclient2 because the earlier version is libmpdclient (2.2-1) from a couple of months ago. Libc6 had been upgraded within the last few days. After downgrading libc6 to v2.11.2-2, the version of mpdscribble in Debian works again. I noticed that the filer of this bug also had libc6 2.11.2-5 installed. * Debian Bug Tracking System ow...@bugs.debian.org [05-12-2009 15:10 EET]: This is an automatic notification regarding your Bug report which was filed against the gnucash package: #494638: dh_desktop should be added to debian/rules These days dh_desktop doesn't do anything. According to the manpage: dh_desktop was a debhelper program that registers .desktop files. However, it no longer does anything, and is now deprecated. If a package ships desktop files, they just need to be installed in the correct location (/usr/share/applications) and they will be registered by the appropriate tools for the corresponding desktop environments signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#546599: iceweasel: Crash when clicking the star in the awesome bar for a site that 'lives' in Unsorted Bookmarks
Package: iceweasel Version: 3.5.3-1 Severity: normal Tags: experimental The problem is as the subject says. In more detail: I went to a web site. I clicked the Star to the right side of the Awesome Bar to add the site to the bookmarks/places. I then clicked the Star again to pull up the Bookmark Properties Window to send the bookmark to another folder. Iceweasel crashed. I cannot reproduce the crash with the upstream Firefox (both x64 and x86). I only experience the crash when using Iceweasel compiled against the system libsqlite3-0 (which is of course the most recent in sid, 3.6.17-2). Starting with a new profile (copying the places.sqlite) doesn't make a difference. Running pragma integrity_check on the places.sqlite database returns no errors, but for the heck of it I deleted ~/.mozilla/firefox/profile/places*. This didn't stop the crashing either.
