vinit-core is not / no longer required. The hints I have observed to that
effect are the conflict declared by systemd-sysv, Michael Biebl's intervention
in #754059, as well as a conflict declared by upstart, as pointed out by
Michael.

Correct, systemd-sysv has a Conflicts/Replaces against sysvinit
that would go, but if that's not a problem, something must be wrong
with its priority field. I'll save my system from such an experimentation and
