Bug#612339: xdg-open: no longer works under fluxbox with BROWSER=galeon --new-tab %s
Package: xdg-utils Version: 1.1.0~rc1-1 Severity: normal Hi! I've just upgraded to the version that has recently migrated into testing: [UPGRADE] xdg-utils 1.0.2+cvs20100307-2 - 1.1.0~rc1-1 and I noticed that xdg-open no longer seems to work with URLs for me. I use fluxbox, hence the desktop environment is recognized as generic. I have the following environment variable set: $ env | grep BROWSER BROWSER=galeon --new-tab %s Well, the following simple command stopped working as soon as I performed the above-mentioned upgrade: $ xdg-open 'http://debian.org' xdg-open: no method available for opening 'http://debian.org' With debugging turned on: $ export XDG_UTILS_DEBUG_LEVEL=2 $ xdg-open 'http://debian.org' /usr/bin/xdg-open: line 456: galeon --new-tab http: command not found xdg-open: no method available for opening 'http://debian.org' What's wrong? It seems to me that the eval fails, but why? Bug#607458: desktop-base: debian/copyright file is outdated
Package: desktop-base Version: 6.0.4 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 4.5 Hi desktop-base maintainers! First of all, thank you very much for fixing bug #587668. However, the changes needed to fix that bug do not seem to be properly documented in the debian/copyright file, unfortunately. It seems to me that this file is rather outdated and in need of a complete review and update. Please review the copyrights and licenses of all the files shipped in the package and fix the debian/copyright file. Some random checks highlight at least the following issues: * the debian-background.svg file seems to be no longer present in the package (that's a relief, since it was apparently derived from the non-free DOUL-with) * there does not seem to be any clear copyright notice (with years and copyright holders) and license for debian-security.xcf, which is derived from the DOUL (under the Expat/MIT license) and from a GNOME icon (under which license?!?) * the debian-official-logo-small.png image seems to be no longer present (that's a relief, since the official logo is non-free) * there does not seem to be any clear copyright notice (with years and copyright holders) and license for the gnome-debian-sid kit, which is (now) derived from at least the DOUL (under the Expat/MIT license) * the SpaceFun theme copyright notice and license does not seem to be complete, since it does not mention that the theme was derived from the DOUL (which is copyright (c) 1999 Software in the Public Interest and released under the Expat/MIT license, a license which is distinct from the GPLv2, even though compatible with it) * I cannot see any information about the nightly and moreblue-orbit themes ... * I cannot find any information about the emblem-debian.icon and emblem-debian.png files ... Bug#606885: xpdf: no longer asks for password in dialog window
Package: xpdf Version: 3.02-11 Severity: normal Tags: security Hi Debian xpdf maintainers! Thanks a lot for maintaining my favorite PDF viewer! I noticed a little regression (probably introduced during the conversion into a libpoppler front-end). In the past, xpdf used to pop up a useful dialog window to ask the user for a password, when dealing with password-protected PDF files. After typing the password in, the user was able to view the contents of the password-protected PDF file. Nowadays, when the user attempts to view a password-protected PDF file, no dialog window is shown and xpdf exits immediately with the following error: $ xpdf protected_file.pdf Error: Incorrect password $ echo $? 1 On the other hand, if the user provides the correct password through the command-line option: $ xpdf -upw my_secret_password protected_file.pdf everything works fine and the file contents are correctly visualized. Of course, requiring the user to provide a password on the command line is not a good idea, from a security point of view: the password (in clear) is visible to anyone who takes a look at the screen, it's saved in the shell history, and so forth. As a consequence, I miss the old insert password dialog window! Could this feature be restored, please? Thanks for your time! N.B.: Before filing this bug report, I took a look at the already filed ones and noticed bug #601375. I thought it could be the same issue, but it probably isn't, since the file mentioned in that bug report gives me a different error message: $ xpdf HTUSA-EBU4-3.pdf Error: Weird encryption info Error: Incorrect password -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages xpdf depends on: ii lesstif2 1:0.95.2-1 OSF/Motif 2.1 implementation relea ii libc6 2.11.2-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.5-8 GCC support library ii libpoppler5 0.12.4-1.2 PDF rendering library ii libstdc++64.4.5-8The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.3.3-4 X11 client-side library ii libxt61:1.0.7-1 X11 toolkit intrinsics library Versions of packages xpdf recommends: ii gsfonts-x11 0.21 Make Ghostscript fonts available t ii poppler-data 0.4.3-1Encoding data for the poppler PDF ii poppler-utils 0.12.4-1.2 PDF utilitites (based on libpopple xpdf suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#604402: python-matplotlib-data: includes local copies of fonts
Package: python-matplotlib-data Version: 0.99.3-1 Severity: normal Hello and thanks for maintaining matplotlib in Debian! After taking a look at the copyright file http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/m/matplotlib/matplotlib_0.99.3-1/python-matplotlib-data.copyright and at the list of files http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/python-matplotlib-data/filelist it seems to me that the package includes some fonts. I think it would be far better if those fonts were separated out in font packages. If those fonts are already packaged separately, their packages should be used, instead of local copies. BTW, if I understand the documentation correctly: http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/api/font_manager_api.html it seems that matplotlib users can select any font which is installed on their systems. If this is indeed the case, then I cannot really understand why some fonts are included in the python-matplotlib-data package: I would say that this package should just depend on some general (virtual) package ensuring that at least one (suitable) font is installed on the system. Please correct me and explain, in case I am completely off-track... Thanks for your time. Bye. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#600879: RFH: apt-listbugs -- tool which lists critical bugs before each apt installation
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request assistance with maintaining the apt-listbugs package. The other co-maintainer (Ryan Niebur) is currently almost MIA and finally told me that he no longer wants to be involved in apt-listbugs maintenance: see http://bugs.debian.org/588636 and http://git.debian.org/?p=apt-listbugs/apt-listbugs.git;a=commitdiff;h=b999e0ba2f3c03ee367e45d7e8de4abbfe892457 if you want to read the full story... I would say that the package is generally in a decent shape: it normally works as intended, lintian does not complain about it, its non-pending bug count is decreasing (see http://qa.debian.org/data/bts/graphs/a/apt-listbugs.png), I usually manage to deal with bug reports and go ahead with developing work by myself, ... However, I sometimes need help with Ruby (I am not yet the Ruby expert I would dream to be!) or with packaging techniques (I am still learning them!). Hence, I would like to find someone else who could co-maintain the package with me. The ideal candidate * has experience with the Ruby language * knows how to use Git * has Debian packaging experience * is willing to dedicate some time to this package (the amount of needed time is not big: I will mostly need some review of my work, and occasionally some help on stuff I am not too expert at) Bonus points if the candidate is a DD or a DM, since I have no upload rights (and hence I would need a sponsor for each upload, in the absence of a DD or DM co-maintainer). Thanks in advance to anyone who volunteers! The package description is: apt-listbugs is a tool which retrieves bug reports from the Debian Bug Tracking System and lists them. Especially, it is intended to be invoked before each upgrade/installation by apt in order to check whether the upgrade/installation is safe. . Many developers and users prefer the unstable version of Debian for its new features and packages. apt, the usual upgrade tool, can break your system by installing a buggy package. . apt-listbugs lists critical bug reports from the Debian Bug Tracking System. Run it before apt to see if an upgrade or installation is known to be unsafe. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#598140: ifconfig: ifdown, pause, ifup causes page allocation failure
Package: net-tools Version: 1.60-23 Severity: normal Hi and thanks for maintaining net-tools in Debian! Today something very strange happened to me. I had to perform some tests which *required* network problems. In order to simulate network problems, I decided to bring the eth interface of my box down: # ifdown eth1 My /etc/network/interfaces is nothing particularly fancy: $ cat /etc/network/interfaces # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5). # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface allow-hotplug eth1 iface eth1 inet dhcp Hence, the ifdown command simply caused dhcp3-client/4.1.1-P1-9 to release the IP address and the eth interface got deconfigured. So far so good. I performed the tests (which involved attempting network connections to a remote host, and obviously the attempts had to fail and indeed failed). When the tests were completed to my satisfaction, some time had passed and I decided to bring the eth interface back up. # ifup eth1 Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client 4.1.1-P1 Copyright 2004-2010 Internet Systems Consortium. Bug#597237: live-manual: includes non-free files
Package: live-manual Version: 1:2.0~a4-1 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.2.1 Hi! According to http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/l/live-manual/live-manual_2.0~a4-1/live-manual.copyright the live-manual package seems to include two non-free files. The first troublesome file is: [...] | Files: html/image.png | Copyright: (C) 1999 Software in the Public Interest, Inc. | License: other | This logo or a modified version may be used by anyone to refer to the Debian | project, but does not indicate endorsement by the project. [...] This is the Debian Open Use Logo with the word Debian, which fails to comply with the DFSG and cannot therefore be included in a package shipped in main. For further details on this issue, please take a look at the many discussions held on debian-legal. For instance, see http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2010/06/msg00012.html http://bugs.debian.org/587482 I suggest that you replace this image with the Debian Open Use Logo without the word Debian, which complies with the DFSG, being distributable under the terms of the Expat license, just like html/favicon.ico The second problematic file is: [...] | Files: html/stylesheet.css | Copyright: (C) 1999-2009 Software in the Public Interest, Inc. | License: OPL-1 | Open Publication License | v1.0, 8 June 1999 [...] The Open Publication License v1.0 fails to meet the DFSG, please see http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2004/03/msg00226.html http://bugs.debian.org/238245#40 for further details. As a consequence, a CSS stylesheet released under the terms of the OPL cannot be included in a package shipped in main. I suggest that you ask the copyright holder (that is to say SPI, Inc.) to re-license or dual-license this file under a good GPL-compatible license (such as the Expat license, or the GNU GPL v2-or-later). Thanks for your attention. Bye. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#595075: xpdf: [regression] scrolling with arrows (cursor keys) always results in page change
Package: xpdf Version: 3.02-10 Severity: normal Hello! I've just upgraded to xpdf/3.02-10, which has just migrated to testing. Thanks for your great job in converting xpdf to a libpoppler frontend! I noticed a regression, though. The arrows (that is to say, the cursor keys) used to scroll the page, when the window did not display the whole page. This behavior was consistent with what the Xpdf: About window still says: arrows = scroll On the other hand, with version 3.02-10, hitting the arrows always results in a page change. For instance, view a multi-page PDF: $ xpdf mypdffile.pdf Hit w, so that the document is zoomed in a fit width manner. At this point, hitting the downward cursor key should scroll the page down a little. Instead, it takes me to the beginning of page 2. And then to the beginning of page 3, page 4, and so forth, if I go on hitting the same cursor key... I hope this regression is easy to fix... Bug#588578: /etc/fbpanel/default should be dropped, while preserving local modifications
Package: fbpanel Version: 6.0-2 Severity: normal Hi. As explained in http://bugs.debian.org/585577#36 file /etc/fbpanel/default is now ignored by fbpanel. I assume that /etc/fbpanel/default is a conffile in the Debian package. If this is case, here we seem to have an obsolete conffile that is no longer used by the packaged program. I think that it should be removed from users' systems, but some users may have customized this system-wide configuration file, hence a strategy to preserve those local modifications should be implemented. It seems to me that the debian/copyright file lacks the full text of the LPPL, which is not a license shipped in /usr/share/common-licenses/ Debian Policy [1] mandates a verbatim copy of copyright and distribution license(s) of the content of the package. Bug#586597: geomview: PLOT3D grid file reader module: please include it
Package: geomview Version: 1.9.4-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hello, this bug report could be the last thing I do about geomview (but who knows?). During last August, I wrote a geomview module that reads a (two-dimensional, Fortran-unformatted, multi-block) PLOT3D grid file and visualizes it. Please note that the PLOT3D data formats are used in CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics): they were born as native data formats for an old NASA visualization tool (named PLOT3D). For further information: http://www.efluid.com.cn/images/up/DownloadFile/Sajben%20Transonic%20Diffuser/Plot3d%20format.txt and chapter 8 of the original PLOT3D user's manual, downloadable from: http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/4177251 My original goal was to write modules that enable geomview to read PLOT3D data formats and visualize them: I wanted to send my modules to geomview upstream developers, so that they could include them in the official geomview distribution. However, while writing and debugging the first module, I began to get confirmation that geomview upstream maintainers have virtually disappeared. As explained in more detail in http://bugs.debian.org/547500#22 it seems that I am the only subscriber of the geomview-devel mailing list, which is really awkward, since I am *not* a geomview developer! That list has seen no messages in 2008, one message (from me!) in 2009, and no messages in 2010 (so far). My message (about bug #357445) was left without replies: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=20090819164323.e62890f4.frx%40firenze.linux.itforum_name=geomview-devel Consequently, I stopped writing geomview modules. Now, it seems to me that what I wrote should not be wasted, as it could still be useful someone else. Hence, I thought I could send my module to Debian geomview maintainers: feel free to include it in the Debian package. You should find it attached to the present message. Bug#585577: fbpanel: outdated documentation
Package: fbpanel Version: 6.0-1 Severity: normal Hi! I noticed that the fbpanel man page is outdated in some respects (it still refers to ~/.fbpanel/ rather than to ~/.config/fbpanel, for instance): it looks like the documentation is still talking about version 4.x The shipped system-wide configuration file /etc/fbpanel/default also seems to be out of date: for instance it still uses ClockFmt = %R, which is now deprecated, if I understand correctly. Bug#585180: fluxbox: licenses for themes are not documented in debian/copyright
Package: fluxbox Version: 1.1.1+dfsg1-1 Severity: normal Hi! If I understand the fix for bug #584513 correctly, the themes were not removed from the package, since they have been relicensed under the CC-by-sa-v3.0 license (which is considered acceptable by FTP Masters, even though I disagree, but that's another story...). http://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/fluxbox/filelist seems to confirm that those themes are still included in the package version currently in sid. If this is indeed the case, then the licenses for fluxbox themes have to be documented in the debian/copyright file, as mandated by Debian Policy. Please add a verbatim copy of the copyright and distribution licenses for the themes to the debian/copyright file. Bug#584959: fbpanel: iconified sticky windows do not get square brackets in taskbar
Package: fbpanel Version: 6.0-1 Severity: normal Hi! [This bug is what was left unfixed from bug #576588...] I use fbpanel with fluxbox, I don't know if the bug may be reproduced with other window managers. When a window is iconified, the corresponding taskbar item is shown with square brackets around the window title. This is good, since it makes detecting iconified window taskbar items easier, whenever there are a number of identically titled windows in the workspace. However, this does not happen with sticky windows (I mean: windows that are present in every workspace, rather than in only one). For iconified sticky windows, no square brackets are shown around the title in the taskbar item. This is unpractical and should be fixed: sticky windows should get brackets like normal windows do, when they are iconified. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages fbpanel depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 1.30.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.10.2-9 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo2 1.8.10-4 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libfontconfig12.8.0-2.1 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.11-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libglib2.0-0 2.24.1-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.20.1-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpango1.0-0 1.28.0-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii librsvg2-common 2.26.3-1 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libx11-6 2:1.3.3-3 X11 client-side library fbpanel recommends no packages. Bug#584794: audacious: [regression] context menu is unusable with rolled up player near bottom of screen
Package: audacious Version: 2.3-2 Severity: normal Hi! The new audacious version that has recently migrated into testing (2.3-2) fixed several bugs, but also introduced some little regressions. I have already filed a bug report for the first regression I noticed (bug #584249). Here's a report for the second regression. When I right-click on the player window, a context menu appears (the one with About Audacious and so forth). This is true, even when the player window is rolled up. Good. The context menu usually appears with its top-left corner located where the mouse-pointer was, when the right button was clicked. This is true, as long as there's enough room on the right and enough room below in order to accommodate for the menu. When there's not enough room on the right (because the player window is too close to the right side of the screen), the menu appears shifted to the left. With audacious/2.1-1, the same strategy used to be applied, when the player window was too close to the bottom side of the screen (the menu used to appear shifted up). With audacious/2.3-2, the strategy changed: when the player window is too close to the bottom side of the screen, the menu is shortened in height and two arrows are included to scroll its content up and down. This is a regression, since, when the player window is rolled up and very close to the bottom of the screen, the context menu becomes unusable: it is so short that it is *entirely* covered by one of the arrows and no menu entries are reachable! Please revert this change and re-enable the previous strategy, which used to work well in all reasonable use cases, as far as I know. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages audacious depends on: ii audacious-plugins 2.3-2 Base plugins for audacious ii dbus 1.2.24-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii dbus-x11 1.2.24-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii gtk2-engines-pixbuf 2.20.1-1 Pixbuf-based theme for GTK+ 2.x ii libatk1.0-0 1.30.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudclient2 2.3-2 audacious dbus remote control libr ii libaudcore1 2.3-2 audacious core engine library ii libaudid3tag2 2.3-2 audacious id3 tag manipulation lib ii libc6 2.10.2-9 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo2 1.8.10-4 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.24-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.86-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libfontconfig12.8.0-2.1 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.11-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libglib2.0-0 2.24.1-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.20.1-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 2:1.0.6-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libmcs1 0.7.1-1Abstraction library to store confi ii libmowgli10.6.1-1a high performance development fra ii libpango1.0-0 1.28.0-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsm62:1.1.1-1 X11 Session Management library Versions of packages audacious recommends: ii unzip 6.0-4 De-archiver for .zip files audacious suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#584249: audacious-plugins: [regression] shows meaningless timer values when playing Internet streams
Package: audacious-plugins Version: 2.3-2 Severity: normal Hi! Thanks for maintaining audacious: version 2.3-2, which has recently migrated into testing, fixes many issues!:-) I noticed a regression, though. As discussed in bug #500081, I set Time Remaining for the timer. When playing an Internet radio stream, audacious used to show the elapsed time, regardless of the timer mode setting, since the remaining time cannot be computed for a stream (which is virtually never-ending). With version 2.3-2, this behavior changed. Now, with the timer set to Time Remaining, audacious shows meaningless timer values (such as --4:-0, --2:-3, and similar) while playing Internet radio streams. Please restore the previous behavior, that is to say: * when playing streams, always show the elapsed time * when playing local audio files, show the remaining time or the elapsed time, depending on the user configuration (timer_mode). -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages audacious-plugins depends on: ii libasound2 1.0.22-2 shared library for ALSA applicatio ii libatk1.0-0 1.30.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudcore1 2.3-2audacious core engine library ii libaudid3tag2 2.3-2audacious id3 tag manipulation lib ii libavcodec524:0.5.1-3ffmpeg codec library ii libavformat52 4:0.5.1-3ffmpeg file format library ii libavutil49 4:0.5.1-3ffmpeg utility library ii libbinio1ldbl 1.4-14 Binary I/O stream class library ii libc6 2.10.2-9 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo2 1.8.10-4 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcddb21.2.1-1 library to access CDDB data - runt ii libcdio-cdda0 0.81-4 library to read and control digita ii libcdio10 0.81-4 library to read and control CD-ROM ii libcue1 1.4.0-1 CUE Sheet Parser Library ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.24-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-20.86-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libesd0 0.2.41-7 Enlightened Sound Daemon - Shared ii libfaad22.7-4freeware Advanced Audio Decoder - ii libflac81.2.1-2+b1 Free Lossless Audio Codec - runtim ii libfluidsynth1 1.1.1-4 Real-time MIDI software synthesize ii libfontconfig1 2.8.0-2.1generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.3.11-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.4-1GCC support library ii libglib2.0-02.24.1-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.20.1-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libjack01.9.5~dfsg-13JACK Audio Connection Kit (librari ii liblircclient0 0.8.3-5 infra-red remote control support - ii libmad0 0.15.1b-5MPEG audio decoder library ii libmcs1 0.7.1-1 Abstraction library to store confi ii libmms0 0.4-2MMS stream protocol library - shar ii libmowgli1 0.6.1-1 a high performance development fra ii libmtp8 1.0.2-3 Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) libr ii libneon27-gnutls0.29.3-2 An HTTP and WebDAV client library ii libogg0 1.2.0~dfsg-1 Ogg bitstream library ii libpango1.0-0 1.28.0-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpulse0 0.9.21-1 PulseAudio client libraries ii libresid-builder0c2a2.1.1-8 SID chip emulation class based on ii libsamplerate0 0.1.7-3 Audio sample rate conversion libra ii libsdl1.2debian 1.2.14-6 Simple DirectMedia Layer ii libshout3 2.2.2-5+b1 MP3/Ogg Vorbis broadcast streaming ii libsidplay2 2.1.1-8 SID (MOS 6581) emulation library ii libsndfile1 1.0.21-2 Library for reading/writing audio ii libstdc++6 4.4.4-1 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libusb-0.1-42:0.1.12-14 userspace USB programming library ii libvorbis0a 1.3.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisenc2 1.3.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisfile3 1.3.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libwavpack1 4.60.1-1 an audio

Bug#580896: sylpheed: actions fail to provide message body in the appropriate charset for gpg to verify
Package: sylpheed Version: 3.0.2-1 Severity: normal Hi! As suggested by Sylpheed's manual [1], I use the following action in order to verify inline GPG signatures in messages: |gpg --no-tty --verify This action works well for most cases, where the inline signed message is encoded in ASCII charset, or in UTF-8 charset with quoted printable escaping. This is so, because the message body either needs no conversion, or is decoded from the quoted printable escaping to its UTF-8 encoding, before being sent to GnuPG through the pipe. Please note that the inline signature is performed *before* the quoted printable escaping, and hence it has be verified on the unescaped message body. However, for some messages, the above mentioned action fails to correctly verify the inline signature, since the message is encoded in, say, ISO-8859-1 charset, signed, and then escaped in a quoted printable manner. Here, Sylpheed decodes the message body from the quoted printable escaping, and then seems to convert it to UTF-8 charset, before sending it to GnuPG through the pipe. The choice of the charset (UTF-8) seems to be dictated by my locale settings, but completely fails to take into account that the message headers specify, among other fields: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable An example of such messages is DSA-2040-1 [2]: see the thread where I thought the signature was actually bad [3], while the problem is in Sylpheed, instead. In order to check the validity of my reasoning, I configured the following action: | iconv -f utf-8 -t latin1 | gpg --no-tty --verify This action is able to correctly verify the inline signature of that ISO-8859-1 charset message. Now, what I think is that Sylpheed should take headers into account when sending the message body through the pipe, in order to choose the original charset when decoding quoted printable escaped messages. I took a look at src/action.c and I cannot find where the quoted printable unescaping is performed. If I understand correctly, the message body is sent through the pipe as displayed by GTK+ widgets: if this is the case, then the charset is chosen as the locale settings require, I guess... But this causes the above described issue. How can this mess be fixed? Package: fusionforge-full Version: 5.0-1 Severity: normal Tags: upstream security Hi! When trying to register an alioth account [1], I get a broken HTTPS page. My browser (galeon) says: Parts of this page are loaded over an insecure connection and the secure connection status icon reports Security level: Broken Warning: Contains unauthenticated content The same issue seems to hold for any other https://alioth.debian.org page [2] and even for https://fusionforge.org/ pages. This issue makes me feel unsafe whenever I am asked to type in passwords (or anyway to enter sensible data). As Roland Mas explained me via private e-mail, the problem is that the pages load the YUI CSS library from Yahoo's server, rather than using a local copy (packaged as libjs-yui). Please fix this bug, as it has a negative impact on the security of fusionforge installations (or at least on their public image!). Bug#579102: please let conky be moved back to main!
Package: conky Version: 1.8.0-1 Severity: wishlist Hi! Thanks for adopting my favorite system monitor! :-) I've just found out that the package has been moved to contrib, though! :-( After digging into the ITA bug (#536320), it seems to me that the only reason why the source package was moved away from main, is that *one* binary package build-depends on nvidia-settings (which is in contrib, since, I suppose, is useless without the nvidia proprietary drivers...). I don't want to use a package that directly or indirectly (build-)depends on non-free packages! I don't even have contrib in my sources.list, since it opens up the possibility that I install packages that download non-free stuff off the net, and so forth... If I understand correctly: * only one conky feature (build-)depends on nvidia stuff * this feature has been added to conky recently (hence it was not present in previous versions packaged for Debian main) * this feature is only useful to users that use the non-free nvidia drivers * this feature is only present in amd64 and i386 architectures For all these reasons, I think it's a shame that conky has been moved to contrib just for that new feature. Please, please disable nvidia-related stuff in the conky Debian package, so that the package may stop build-depending on nvidia-settings and thus may be moved back to main! The few users that want to take advantage of the nvidia-related new feature, may locally rebuild the conky package (just like they often rebuild nvidia modules...). I hope that I clearly expressed my reasoning and that you agree with me. Please move conky back to main! ;-) Thanks for your time. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#578309: I cannot route audio input to rakarrack
Package: rakarrack Version: 0.4.2-1 Severity: normal Hi and thanks for maintaining rakarrack in Debian! I am trying to use it with my electric guitar (connected to the sound card mic-in through a DI box). From a hardware point of view, the setup seemed to work, since, in the past, I managed to hear the clean sound of the guitar coming out of my speakers. To be frank, in the tests I performed today, I cannot even hear the clean sound of the guitar, and I cannot understand why (which is driving me crazy!); see also bug #523925, where several tests are described related to the fmit tuner... Anyway, while running rakarrack no effect seems to be applied, whatever I set within the rakarrack GUI. If I set high input and output amplification, I can only hear what seems to be the result of the application of the selected effect to background noise... Let me explain my setup. I have an Intel HD audio controller (which is integrated in my ASUS P5B-VM motherboard): $ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 | grep Codec Codec: Analog Devices AD1988 My alsamixer Capture settings are as follows: Front Mic Boost Mic Boost S/PDIF 7474 -- Capture7272 CAPTUR Capture 1 7272 CAPTUR Capture 2 7272 CAPTUR Input Source [Front Mic] Input Source 1 [Line] Input Source 2 [Mic] I have jackd and libasound2-plugins installed and the following redirection (to make ALSA applications work, even when they are unaware of jackd): $ cat ~/.asoundrc # redirect the default ALSA device to JACK pcm.!default { type plug slave { pcm jack } } pcm.jack { type jack playback_ports { 0 alsa_pcm:playback_1 1 alsa_pcm:playback_2 } capture_ports { 0 alsa_pcm:capture_1 1 alsa_pcm:capture_2 } } My setup works correctly for audio output (I can listen to music with audacious, watch videos with mplayer, hear sounds from games, and so forth). I am trying to get audio input to work... I start rakarrack and qjackctl: after connecting both system capture ports to both rakarrack in ports and after connecting both rakarrack out ports to all the 8 system playback ports, I press the Play button in qjackctl GUI (which says Rolling). I pluck the guitar strings, but I cannot hear any sound coming from my speakers, and I cannot see any activity in rakarrack (besides the amplification of background noise, as I said). The FX On button is pressed (otherwise I wouldn't even hear the background noise). Help! Bug#576543: xpdf-reader: Invalid command syntax: 'zoomFitPage' / 'zoomFitWidth'
Package: xpdf-reader Version: 3.02-2 Severity: normal Hi! First of all, thanks a lot for adopting this package. I hope it can migrate back into testing soon! Thank you very much for the time you are willing to spend maintaining it! :-) I've just upgraded from version 3.02-1.4+lenny1 to version 3.02-2 and I noticed a little regression. Now, if I press those same buttons, nothing happens, apart from the following error messages appearing on the terminal: Error: Invalid command syntax: 'zoomFitPage' Error: Invalid command syntax: 'zoomFitWidth' Oddly enough, pressing the [h] button seems to work as intended: it correctly sets the zoom level to fit height... Bug#576588: fbpanel: sticky windows are not iconified/raised when their taskbar items are clicked
Package: fbpanel Version: 4.12-1.1 Severity: normal Hi! I think I found a bug in fbpanel. I use it with fluxbox, I don't know if the bug may be reproduced with other window managers. Let me explain. I can iconify a normal window in at least two ways: (a1) right-click on its (fbpanel) taskbar item and select Iconify from the pop-up menu (b1) double-left-click on its taskbar item On the other hand, I can raise an iconified normal window in at least two ways: (a2) right-click on its taskbar item and select Raise from the pop-up menu (b2) left-click on its taskbar item However, when the window is sticky (I mean: it is present in every workspace, rather than in only one), both methods (a1) and (b1) work as intended (they iconify the window), but only method (a2) can actually raise an iconified sticky window. Method (b2) does not seem to work at all for sticky windows. Awkwardly enough, if I issue the following commands in a terminal $ killall -TERM fbpanel $ fbpanel while I am inside my X session, the newly launched fbpanel instance works correctly: method (b2) begins to work as intended. In other words, the bug may be reproduced with the fbpanel that is launched by my ~/.xsession script, but not with a restarted fbpanel... Another problem (probably related to the same bug) is that normal windows are shown with square brackets around the window title, when they are iconified, but sticky windows are not. This makes detecting iconified window taskbar items harder, whenever there are a number of identically titled windows in the workspace... The lack of square brackets for sticky windows is not cured by restarting fbpanel, though, so maybe the two problems are not caused by the same bug. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages fbpanel depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 1.28.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo2 1.8.10-3 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libglib2.0-0 2.22.2-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.18.9-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpango1.0-0 1.26.2-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii librsvg2-common 2.26.0-1 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libx11-6 2:1.3.3-2 X11 client-side library ii libxmu6 2:1.0.5-1 X11 miscellaneous utility library fbpanel recommends no packages. I've also tried to use non-default GL2PSExporter properties: a) disabling Draw background leads to the same issues b) disabling Ps3 shading doesn't seem to help c) choosing simple Sort doesn't help either d) disabling Occlusion cull seems to slow down even more xpdf, but not gv (without fixing the black areas issue) e) disabling Best root does not help Please note that saving the scene as a PNG image works as intended (but obviously generates a raster image, not a vector one!). -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages mayavi2 depends on: ii libc6 2.10.2-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libjs-jquery 1.4-1 JavaScript library for dynamic web ii libvtk5.2 5.2.1-11 Visualization Toolkit - A high lev ii python 2.5.4-9 An interactive high-level object-o ii python-apptools3.3.0-3 ETS Application Tools ii python-central 0.6.14+nmu2 register and build utility for Pyt ii python-configobj 4.5.2-2 a simple but powerful config file ii python-envisagecore3.1.1-2 Extensible Application Framework ii python-envisageplugins 3.1.1-1 Plugins for the Envisage framework ii python-numpy 1:1.3.0-3+b1 Numerical Python adds a fast array ii python-pkg-resources 0.6.10-1 Package Discovery and Resource Acc ii python-traits 3.2.0-1+b1Manifest typing and reactive progr ii python-traitsgui 3.1.0-1 Traits-capable windowing framework ii python-vtk 5.2.1-11 Python bindings for VTK ii python-wxgtk2.82.8.10.1-2+b1 wxWidgets Cross-platform C++ GUI t ii python2.5 2.5.4-3.1 An interactive high-level object-o mayavi2 recommends no packages. Bug#566582: debian/copyright does not say that ifrit is under GPLv2
Package: ifrit Version: 3.2.8-1 Severity: important Hi! Thanks for maintaining ifrit in Debian. The official web site of IFrIT (which, BTW, has moved to http://sites.google.com/site/ifrithome/ : please update the homepage field) states that the software package is released under the terms of the GNU GPL v2. Indeed, some random checks on files extracted from the source code seem to confirm this. However, the debian/copyright file of the ifrit Debian package does not seem to include a verbatim copy of [the] copyright and distribution license, as required by Debian Policy, section 4.5 (http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-source.html#s-dpkgcopyright). The recent change in the $HOME value set by pdebuild-internal (see commit 88e0052c7362c2c2a7841579f007ccabeae27c49 ) broke most of my hook scripts, since they unfortunately rely on the fact that $HOME ends with /../ Would it be possible to add a new environment variable to identify the debianized source directory? I think that adding the following simple line in pdebuild-internal just beforeexport HOME=$(readlink -f $(pwd)/../) would suffice: export DEBSOURCEDIR=$(readlink -f $(pwd)) maybe with a comment that explains that this is useful for hook scripts. Bug#565219: qa.debian.org: bug history graphs are incorrect
Package: qa.debian.org Severity: normal Hi! The bug count (and consequently the plot shape) is often incorrect in the bug history graphs. Consider for instance: http://packages.qa.debian.org/d/dpkg-ruby.html The package currenty has 0 (zero) outstanding bugs and 8 unarchived resolved bugs. Nonetheless, the graph http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts/d/dpkg-ruby.png claims a total of 7 bugs and the plot is somehow missing in the last days. By looking at http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts/d/ I see that the graph was last updated on 13-Jan-2010 12:07, but at that time, all bugs were already resolved. I don't know whether this problem is related to (or even the same as) bugs #546676, #548009, and #526237. Anyway, please fix the generation of the graphs: they are nice, but often misleading... Bug#561008: console-setup: approximations for 'toilet -f future' symbols look different before and after X
Package: console-setup Version: 1.50 Severity: normal Hi (again)! During the discussions for bug #546983, console-setup was greatly improved by Anton Zinoviev (which I would like to thank again): the console is now able to display 'toilet -f future' symbols in a strange, yet charming way, by using approximations. All standard fonts (Fixed, Terminus, TerminusBold, TerminusBoldVGA, VGA) are able to perform this magic. I chose TerminusBoldVGA, as shown below in the debconf settings section. This is really great. I noticed an awkward behavior, though. As soon as the box has finished booting, I login on the console and I see the output of, e.g.: $ toilet -f future hello ╻ ╻┏━╸╻ ╻ ┏━┓ ┣━┫┣╸ ┃ ┃ ┃ ┃ ╹ ╹┗━╸┗━╸┗━╸┗━┛ displayed correctly. I mean, the letters don't have the same height, but that's OK (it even somehow enhance the futuristic look of this toilet font!), but each letter is displayed with lines that join perfectly and form a continuous gliph. OK, after that, I start an X session: $ startx logout If I switch back to the console (by pressing [Ctrl+Alt+F1]) and I login again, then the output of $ toilet -f future hello ╻ ╻┏━╸╻ ╻ ┏━┓ ┣━┫┣╸ ┃ ┃ ┃ ┃ ╹ ╹┗━╸┗━╸┗━╸┗━┛ looks different! I mean, each letter is displayed with lines that fail to join perfectly and thus form a discontinous gliph (as if made of broken pieces). This is less nice than before, but the point is: why does it look different?!? Bug#560415: grub-common: /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober detects and creates entries for an external backup disk!
Package: grub-common Version: 1.97~beta3-1 Severity: normal Hello and thanks for maintaining GRUB in Debian. On a recently installed Debian testing box, I had the first Linux kernel upgrade the other day, due to the testing-security update (linux-image-2.6.30-2-amd64/2.6.30-8squeeze1). During the upgrade, upgrade-grub was apparently invoked, as it should. After the reboot I found two additional spurious entries in the GRUB menu. By inspecting /boot/grub/grub.cfg , I see that the two entries were added by 30_os-prober: ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, Linux 2.6.30-2-amd64 (on /dev/sdc1) { linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.30-2-amd64 root=/dev/md0 ro quiet initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.30-2-amd64 } menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, Linux 2.6.30-2-amd64 (recovery mode) (on /dev/sdc1) { linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.30-2-amd64 root=/dev/md0 ro single initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.30-2-amd64 } ### END /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### The problem is that /dev/sdc1 is a partition on an external USB hard drive, where I complete backup of the system is performed nightly with rsync. It seems that os-prober inspected this external USB disk (that was not mounted during the package upgrades) and found the backup of the Linux kernel image: # os-prober /dev/sdc1:Debian GNU/Linux (squeeze/sid):Debian:linux I seem to remember that grub even complained about not finding /dev/sdc in the device.map... Well, IMHO /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober is being overzealous here: it even wants to create entries for a backup disk... I don't know if it can become smart enough to distinguish between backup partitions and other actual OSes. Anyway, is it possible to disable one device or, at least, to disable 30_os-prober entirely? Bug#550635: mayavi2: [regression] interpolated scalar coloring results in black surface
Package: mayavi2 Version: 3.3.0-1 Severity: important Hi! I've just found out a regression in mayavi2 (I am pretty sure this didn't use to happen previously). Steps to reproduce: $ mayavi2 -d /usr/share/doc/mayavi2/examples/mayavi/data/heart.vtk The main window shows up. * in the Mayavi pane, click on Add module or filter * in the Mayavi object editor pane, double-click on Scalar Cut Plane * in the Mayavi Scene 1 pane, click on View along the +X axis The scalar cut plane is now visible and shows a scalar color map, which is however blocky and non-smooth, with poorly defined contours. * in the Mayavi object editor pane, Actor tab, check Interpolate scalars before mapping Hey! The scalar cut plane is not completely painted black! This should *not* happen! * look slightly below in the Actor tab, inside the Property frame: the Color property is set to black * change the Color property from black to white (by moving the third slider to the extreme left: BTW, this color chooser widget is really terrible, from a usability point of view!) Hey! Now the scalar cut plane correctly shows an interpolated scalar coloring, as desired. It seems that the Color property's Value (that is to say, the third coordinate in a HSV color space) determines how much scalar coloring is performed, when interpolation is enabled: I get the correct visualization with white Color (Value = 100 %), I get a black surface without any visible scalar coloring on it with black Color (Value = 0), while I get a semi-transparent scalar coloring superposed to the black surface with any other Color (any Value in between). Bug#548611: gnash: please add a configuration setting for initial volume level
Package: gnash Version: 0.8.6-1 Severity: wishlist Hi! First off, thanks for maintaining gnash in Debian! :-) I've just installed it (as a replacement for swfdec, which does not work very well, currently) and it seems to work, even though there's still room for improvement... Anyway, whenever I start playing a video (e.g.: inside my browser, with mozilla-plugin-gnash) gnash sets its volume level to the maximum value (that is to say: 100 %). This is way too much for my set up, hence I have to manually move the slider and set gnash volume to a value around 20 % or 30 %, if I want to avoid breaking my eardrums! Repeating this step for each and every video I play is a bit annoying. I would like to have a configuration option to be placed into my ~/.gnashrc that sets the initial value for gnash volume. Something like set volume 25 would set the initial value for the volume to 25 % Of course the user should still be able to change the volume level while gnash is running... Is this feasible? Can it be implemented? Please forward this feature request to upstream, if appropriate. Bug#546983: console-setup-mini: fails to set the keyboard layout (and falls back to us layout)
Package: console-setup-mini Version: 1.44 Severity: important Hi! I upgraded my Debian testing (squeeze) notebook yesterday and various packages were upgraded (among which several xorg packages). Due to dependencies, console-setup-mini was pulled in, as confirmed by /var/log/aptitude : [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] console-setup-mini During the configuration step, various debconf questions were asked: I tried hard to reply reasonably. Today, I booted up the notebook and logged in on the console (I do not use any graphical login manager) and noticed that the keyboard layout was set to US, while my notebook has an Italian keyboard (buying a notebook with a US keyboard is close to impossible down here in Italy...). I thought I messed up with debconf questions, hence I re-ran: # dpkg-reconfigure console-setup-mini The resulting configuration is shown below and translates into the following conffile: $ grep -v '^#\|^$' /etc/default/console-setup VERBOSE_OUTPUT=no ACTIVE_CONSOLES=/dev/tty[1-6] CHARMAP=UTF-8 CODESET=Lat15 FONTFACE=VGA FONTSIZE=16 XKBMODEL=pc105 XKBLAYOUT=it XKBVARIANT= XKBOPTIONS= Despite XKBLAYOUT is clearly set to it, I still get a US keyboard map on the console (X is fine, instead). I even tried to upgrade to console-setup-mini/1.45 from unstable and I even rebooted the notebook, just in case... Nothing changed: still US layout, no matter what! I tried to issue the following command (going from memory, since the last time I needed to *manually* set the keyboard layout was some 7 or 8 years ago!): $ loadkeys it Loading /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/it.kmap.gz Keymap 0: Permission denied Keymap 1: Permission denied Keymap 2: Permission denied KDSKBENT: Operation not permitted loadkeys: could not deallocate keymap 3 As you can see, it didn't work. Bug#546456: mozilla-mplayer: does not step in to play an Ogg Video file
Package: mozilla-mplayer Version: 3.55-2 Severity: normal Hi and thanks for maintaining mozilla-mplayer in Debian! This package works for me with several video formats, but fails to help me in viewing Ogg Video files. I haven't changed anything in the plugin configuration. The only configuration tweaking I performed is for mplayer: $ cat ~/.mplayer/config ao=jack, alsa volume=20 vo=xv $ grep mplayer ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list video/mpeg=mplayer.desktop video/vnd.mpegurl=mplayer.desktop video/x-msvideo=mplayer.desktop video/vnd.vivo=mplayer.desktop application/vnd.ms-asf=mplayer.desktop video/x-ms-asf=mplayer.desktop video/x-ms-wmv=mplayer.desktop application/x-quicktimeplayer=mplayer.desktop video/quicktime=mplayer.desktop video/mp4=mplayer.desktop video/fli=mplayer.desktop When I try to view an Ogg Video file from inside Galeon or Epiphany, the browser just offers me to save the file on disk. I instead expected to see mozilla-mplayer step in and visualize the video... One example is http://kitenet.net/~joey/blog/entry/debhelper_talk/ If I click on the image (which is a link to http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/2009/debconf9/low/1060_Not_your_grandpas_debhelper.ogv), Galeon opens the following dialog window: | Save this file? | | 1060_Not_your_grandpas_debhelper.ogv | | Ogg Video | | http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian- | meetings/2009/debconf9/low/ | | It is not possible to view this file directly in | the browser. You can save it instead. | |[ Cancel ] [ Save ] A similar result is obtained with Epiphany. I tried to add some line to ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list (such as video/x-theora=mplayer.desktop), but it seems that nothing changed, even after restarting the browser. According to http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/config.php the configuration files read by the plugin are: /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf $HOME/.mozilla/mplayerplug-in.conf $HOME/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf In my case, those are the default ones: $ cat /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf #debug=0 #vo=xv,x11 #ao=arts, esd, oss #download=1 #dload-dir=$HOME/tmp #keep-download=0 #noembed=0 #cachesize=512 #use-mimetypes=0 #enable-ogg=1 #enable-smil=1 #enable-helix=1 #qt-speed=med #rtsp-use-tcp=0 #nomediacache=0 #framedrop=0 #autosync=0 #mc=1 #black-background=0 #user-agent=NSPlayer $ cat $HOME/.mozilla/mplayerplug-in.conf cat: /home/frx/.mozilla/mplayerplug-in.conf: No such file or directory $ cat $HOME/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf cat: /home/frx/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf: No such file or directory What's wrong? Bug#545895: debbugs: should drop '\r' characters from bug report subjects
Package: debbugs Version: 2.4.2~exp0 Severity: normal Hi! I think I found a bug in the BTS, hence I am reporting it against the experimental version of debbugs (which I believe is the closest version to what is used in the BTS, right?). The following example use of apt-listbugs shows the problem: $ apt-listbugs list gstreamer0.10-plugins-good Reading package fields... Done Reading package status... Done Retrieving bug reports... Done Parsing Found/Fixed information... Done serious bugs of gstreamer0.10-plugins-good (- ) marked as done in some version (Fixed: gstreamer0.10-plugins-good/0.10.8-4.1).1 unistallable due to .mo serious bugs of gstreamer0.10-plugins-good (- ) unfixed #532352 - gstreamer0.10-plugins-good: CVE-2009-1932 integer overflows Summary: gstreamer0.10-plugins-good(2 bugs) This is wrongly displayed! You cannot even see the first bug number! The problem is that the first bug report includes a '\r' character in its subject and thus messes up with apt-listbugs description line building... I have already worked around this problem in apt-listbugs with a modification in the BTS SOAP reply parsing code. This modification will be included in the next release of apt-listbugs (version 0.1.1) and is visible on the public git repository: http://git.debian.org/?p=apt-listbugs/apt-listbugs.git;a=commitdiff;h=0ca67de284c11926221959a0ee0237dd0c3bd84d With this modification, the above command gives the following correct output: $ apt-listbugs list gstreamer0.10-plugins-good Reading package fields... Done Reading package status... Done Retrieving bug reports... Done Parsing Found/Fixed information... Done serious bugs of gstreamer0.10-plugins-good (- ) marked as done in some version #515836 - gstreamer0.10-plugins-good: 0.10.8-4.1 unistallable due to .mo (Fixed: gstreamer0.10-plugins-good/0.10.8-4.1) serious bugs of gstreamer0.10-plugins-good (- ) unfixed #532352 - gstreamer0.10-plugins-good: CVE-2009-1932 integer overflows Summary: gstreamer0.10-plugins-good(2 bugs) However, the other apt-listbugs co-maintainer (Ryan Niebur) and I think that this is a bug in the BTS and should be fixed there. The BTS should drop '\r' characters from bug report subjects, so that any tool which queries the BTS via its SOAP interface won't get malformed subjects and won't mess up while trying to display them. I hope that you agree with this analysis and that this bug is not to difficult to fix. Bug#544208: fluxbox: [regression] messes window positions up after running full-screen games at different resolution
Package: fluxbox Version: 1.1.1-2 Severity: important Hi! Thanks for maintaining fluxbox in Debian! I've just found out a bug which was not present in older versions of fluxbox: this is a regression, although I cannot remember which version did not suffer from this issue. Anyway the bug is present now, in version 1.1.1-2, and is really annoying. Put simply: if I start a full-screen game from fluxbox, and this game runs at a resolution which differs from the desktop one, then I find all windows moved up and left on all workspaces, as soon as I quit the game and go back to my fluxbox session! Steps to reproduce: # aptitude install freedoom Then start the game from a fluxbox session, with some open windows (anything is affected: terminal emulators, panels such as fbpanel, audio players, graphical web browsers, graphical MUAs, ...): $ doom Inside the game, select Options, then General, and set Fullscreen video mode to Yes. Quit and restart the game. $ doom Play for a while and then quit. In the terminal where you started the game, you should find several stdout messages, among which: I_InitGraphics: 640x480 I_UpdateVideoMode: 640x480 (fullscreen) V_InitMode: using 8 bit video mode I_SetRes: Using resolution 640x480 I_UpdateVideoMode: 0xe000, SDL buffer, direct access confirming that the game ran full-screen at a different resolution (unless your desktop runs at 640x480...). Look at all the windows. Their positions is wrong: moved up and left. At least, this is what happened to me: I had to reposition each and every window back to its right place! By hand! Bug#544112: audacious: rolled up main player window partially disappears while buffering
Package: audacious Version: 2.1-1 Severity: normal Hi! I forgot to report this bug when I began to experience it (that is to say, when I began to experience #516592, if I recall correctly). Anyway, I still experience it, and hence I am reporting it now. The problem is that audacious GUI partially disappears under some conditions. More precisely: the main player window (in rolled up status) happens to partially disappear, when I press the play button and audacious is waiting for a network connection to be established or is buffering the network stream. Whenever this happens, everything is back to normal behavior in a short time. In order to clarify, I prepared two screenshots. You should find them attached. File 'shot0.png' shows the rolled up main player window (stacked on top of the rolled up playlist editor window). This is the normal look of the GUI, with my configuration. When I press the play button, I shortly see the GUI as depicted in file 'shot1.png'. Please notice the little black rectangle: the rest of the main player window is not drawn at all! What can be seen instead is the X background (I use /usr/share/wallpapers/The-Brothers-Gibb-1.JPG from the propaganda-debian package). Within a short time, everything is back to its normal look (that is to say, back to 'shot0.png'). I often (but not always) experience this awkward misbehavior. Bug#538062: openoffice.org-pdfimport: does not work at all (or is undocumented)
Package: openoffice.org-pdfimport Version: 0.4+OOo3.1.0-5 Severity: important Hi! I've just installed openoffice.org-pdfimport, since I need to import PDF vector images (rather than JPEG, PNG, or other raster format images) into a Writer document. After installing openoffice.org-pdfimport, and restarting oowriter, I fail to see any change in my possibility to insert PDF pictures. If I select (from menus) Insert - Picture - From File..., I fail to see PDF among the supported formats. If I manually type the PDF filename and click on the Open button, I get an error dialog window, saying: Unknown graphics format and the only think I can do is clicking on the OK button. As far as I can see, this package seems to add no functionality to OpenOffice.org. Or at least, there seems to be no documentation on how to make any use of the provided functionality. Please help! Bug#537546: aptitude: autoclean should avoid removing cached packages which are still installed
Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.11.11-1+b1 Severity: wishlist Hi and thanks for maintaining my favorite package manager! ;-) The current behavior of the autoclean command removes from the cache *any* package which can no longer be downloaded (from currently configured sources). This is sometimes risky business: suppose I pinned package P to version A (for whatever reason, e.g.: a regression in the newer version B); when version A is no longer available from the repositories, aptitude autoclean would remove it from my cache, even though I still have this version installed on my box; at thet point, if I try to upgrade to a third (even newer) version C, in order to check whether the regression has been fixed, I would lose the (easy) possibility to downgrade to version A. For this reason, I think autoclean should remove packages which can no longer be downloaded, *unless* they are still installed on the system. This wishlist bug is somewhat related to bug #340444, but not really the same (since it seems that several different suggestions were sent to #340444,). I hope my request looks reasonable and may be implemented easily (and soon!). Bug#526471: cleaned up patch for bug #526471
Hi, two new versions of pbuilder have been uploaded to unstable without incorporating my patch to fix bug #526471. What's wrong with my patch? If it was rejected, I would like to know why, so that I can possibly prepare a new rectified patch... May I have some sort of response from the Debian pbuilder maintenance team? In the meanwhile, I am sending a new cleaned up version of my patch (prepared against the current public git repository). Please apply it as soon as possible. N.B.: as indicated in the patch itself, my changes are released under the same terms as pbuilder (GPL v2 or later). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#536705: creox: fails to apply effects
Package: creox Version: 0.2.2rc2-3+b1 Severity: important Hi! Thanks for maintaining creox in Debian. I am trying to see if I can use it with my electric guitar (connected to the sound card mic-in through a DI box). From a hardware point of view, the setup seems to work, since I can hear the clean sound of the guitar coming out of my speakers (even without creox running!). However, when I start creox, no effect seems to work: changing any setting in the interface, before or after clicking on the play button makes absolutely no difference in the output sound: I invariably hear a clean sound, as if creox was not running at all (it probably comes directly from ALSA, completely by-passing creox and possibly jackd...). Please note that jackd seems to be correctly started at creox request: $ set | grep JACK JACK_START_SERVER= $ cat ~/.jackdrc /usr/bin/jackd --temporary --driver=alsa $ creox kbuildsycoca running... jackd 0.116.1 Copyright 2001-2005 Paul Davis and others. jackd comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions; see the file COPYING for details JACK compiled with System V SHM support. loading driver .. My options for creox set system:capture_1 and system:capture_2 as left and right input channels. system:playback_1 and system:playback_2 are the left and right output channels, respectively. None of them are left disconnected. My soundcard has three input sources, configured as follows via alsamixer: Input Source [Front Mic] Input Source 1 [Line] Input Source 2 [Mic] I connected my guitar to the [Front Mic], but I also tried to use [Mic], with the same results. During the tests I've performed, I noticed a *very* awkward thing. While listening to music with audacious (with Jack Output Plugin), I can run creox and set audacious-jack_11132_000:out_0 and audacious-jack_11132_000:out_1 as left and right input channels: with this setup, if I click on the creox play button, creox applies its effects to the audacious output! For instance, it is able to further distort the music I listen to (the music I listen to is typically already distorted on its own, that's why I said further!). In other words, creox is able to apply effects to the audacious output, but I cannot figure out how to convince it to apply effects to my guitar! :-( Please help! -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages creox depends on: ii kdelibs4c2a4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 core libraries and binaries for al ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-2 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libaudio2 1.9.2-1 Network Audio System - shared libr ii libc6 2.9-12GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libfontconfig1 2.6.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.9-4.1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc11:4.4.0-5 GCC support library ii libice62:1.0.5-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libidn11 1.15-1GNU Libidn library, implementation ii libjack0 0.116.1-4 JACK Audio Connection Kit (librari ii libjpeg62 6b-14 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libpng12-0 1.2.37-1 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3-mt 3:3.3.8b-5Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 2:1.1.0-2 X11 Session Management library ii libstdc++6 4.4.0-5 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.2.1-1 X11 client-side library ii libxcursor11:1.1.9-1 X cursor management library ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxft22.1.13-3 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxi6 2:1.1.4-1 X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxrandr2 2:1.3.0-2 X11 RandR extension
Bug#536147: linux-2.6: [regression] CVE-2009-0029 fixed in testing, but not unstable
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.30-1 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole Hello Debian kernel team! According to the security tracker [1], CVE-2009-0029 is fixed in testing, but not in unstable. It's fixed in testing because it was fixed in a stable (lenny) point release, and stable packages updated in a point release are automatically migrated to testing, whenever the version in testing happens to be older than the updated stable one. [1] http://security-tracker.debian.net/tracker/CVE-2009-0029 Having a fixed package in testing is great, but of course it also means that the vulnerability should be fixed in unstable before the package migrates from unstable to testing, or otherwise a regression will happen! Bug#534976: consolekit: does not preserve state during daemon restarts
Package: consolekit Version: 0.3.0-2 Severity: important Hi! As explained in bug #527846 (see its complete log, for more context), if a security update on one of the dependencies creates the *need* to restart console-kit-daemon, I find myself with the following dilemma: (a) I kill the daemon and wait for D-Bus to start it again (b) I stay with the insecure daemon running (c) I reboot the entire system Since there's apparently no way to restart the daemon while preserving its state, if I choose (a), I loose all registered sessions and could encounter awkward side-effects. On the other hand, (b) is not a viable option, when security is involved. Finally, (c) is simply *unacceptable*, especially for a production box where more than one user may be using the system, e.g. via SSH. For instance, think of a scientific computation workstation where users start long-running number crunching programs. The *only* case where I can live with the need to reboot the whole system is when the kernel is updated for security reasons. I really think that a daemon that cannot be safely restarted without unexpected consequences is badly designed. There *must* be a safe way to restart the daemon without unintended weird behaviors. Hence the severity of this bug is at least important (if not higher). I strongly recommend fixing this design flaw. I don't know exactly how this could be done: maybe there should be a signal (e.g.: SIGHUP, or even SIGTERM) that forces the daemon to save its state somewhere on the filesystem (probably somewhere under /var/lib , if I understand the FHS correctly), so that the state can be restored as soon as the daemon is started again. Another strategy could be that the daemon always keeps its state on the filesystem, and only wipes it out when it has to. Bug#534241: libruby1.8: [regression] tempfiles are no longer removed
Package: libruby1.8 Version: 1.8.7.174-1 Severity: normal Tags: security Hi! After the following upgrade: [UPGRADE] libruby1.8 1.8.7.72-3.1 - 1.8.7.174-1 temporary files created with /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/tempfile.rb are no longer removed. It's still there, though. I think this is a problematic regression and may have a security impact. Please note that the temporary file is indeed removed if the method close!() is explicitly called, as in: irb(main):006:0 tf.close! Bug#529542: debbugs: please upload the new version
Package: debbugs Version: 2.4.1 Severity: wishlist Hi! I would have never thought that I would find myself filing a please package new upstream version wishlist bug against a Debian native package! ;-) Nonetheless, here I am: the Debian BTS is a great bug tracking system with many useful and nice features. It is completely Free Software, released under the terms of the GNU GPL v2. All this wonderful bug tracking system is deployed on bugs.debian.org, and has been improved many times, as far as I can see, in the last few years. Yet, the engine behind all this, that is to say debbugs, is not included in Debian, or, to be more precise, *is* included, but in a heavily outdated version, correct me if I'm wrong: last upload was performed in 2003, as far as I can see. I think this situation is awkward: an updated debbugs version should be made easy to install on Debian boxes, so that other organizations could easily benefit from the advanced features of the Debian BTS engine, should they choose to deploy it for their infrastructure. Please upload a new version (and begin doing so more regularly!). This upload would close a huge amount of pending bugs, among other nice effects. Thanks for considering. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#529360: g3data: fails to correctly refresh images with transparency
Package: g3data Version: 1:1.5.1-1 Severity: normal Hi! I noticed a problem with how g3data handles images with transparent pixels (such as PNG images using the alpha channel). If you try to load such an image with a transparent background: $ g3data transp-bg-image.png the image is shown on a gray area and thus its transparent background looks gray. I am not sure if the gray color depends on the window manager theme: if this is the case, it may be an issue with some themes which may result in unreadable plots... But anyway, the problem I am experiencing is another one: as soon as I move the mouse over the image, the zoom area begins to show the enlarged view of the mouse cross neighborhood in a messed up way, with all plot lines drawn over each other. I think this bug is caused by the refreshing strategy used by g3data: it probably draws the updated zoom view *over* the previous one, *without* first blanking the zoom area! This obviously works fine, as long as there are no transparent pixels; but an image with transparent background will fail to refresh properly, unless the area is blanked before the repainting occurs. The same refreshing strategy seems to be used on the main area, with the loaded image: after laying some points down, I click on the Remove all points button; the previously layed down points are still visible on the transparent background, even though they appear as if they were *under* the non-transparent plot lines. This is confusing at best. In summary, the zoom area is mostly unusable when dealing with images having a transparent background. Moreover, understanding which points are still present and which were effectively removed is almost impossible, when dealing with transparent background images. I think a refresh strategy with explicit blanking should be implemented in order to avoid such issues. Please forward this bug report to upstream, if appropriate. Thanks in advance. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages g3data depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 1.24.0-2The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc62.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo21.8.6-2+b1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libfontconfig1 2.6.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.9-4.1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libglib2.0-0 2.20.0-2The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.16.1-2The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpango1.0-01.24.0-3+b1 Layout and rendering of internatio g3data recommends no packages. g3data suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#529362: linuxfacile: includes non-removable, non-modifiable text
Package: linuxfacile Version: 5.0.new-5 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.2.1 User: debian-rele...@lists.debian.org Usertags: nonfree-doc gfdl Hi! This package is licensed under the | terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.1 or any | later version published by the Free Software Foundation; | with no Invariant Sections, with one Front-Cover Texts: ``Linux | Facile - di Daniele Medri'', and with no Back-Cover Texts. as stated in http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/l/linuxfacile/current/copyright According to the outcome of GR-2006-001, only | works that don't include any Invariant Sections, Cover Texts, | Acknowledgements, and Dedications (or that do, but permission to | remove them is explicitly granted), are suitable for the main | component of our distribution. (see http://www.debian.org/vote/2006/vote_001#amendmenttexta) As a consequence, this package is not considered suitable for main by the Debian Project at large, since it includes a Front-Cover Text. There are at least three strategies to fix this bug. In order of preference: a) persuade the upstream author to re-license (or dual-license) the work under the terms of a well-known license that clearly meets the DFSG (e.g.: the GNU GPL v2) b) persuade the upstream author to re-license the work without the Front-Cover Text restriction, or with the explicit permission to remove it c) move the package to non-free Please note that a) is better than b), since the GFDL is always problematic, even for works without non-removable non-modifiable material: see point 3. of GR-2006-001 outcome (http://www.debian.org/vote/2006/vote_001#amendmenttexta). For the record, I am personally convinced that GFDL'ed works never comply with the DFSG (that is to say: I would have voted for option 1 in GR-2006-001), but that's another story... Please note that the linuxfacile manual seems to include parts written by people other than Daniele Medri (e.g.: RMS): as a consequence, I am not sure that the manual can be correctly claimed to be only | Copyright (C) 2000-2001 Daniele Medri as stated in http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/l/linuxfacile/current/copyright This may make strategies a) and b) above more difficult to adopt, as *all* copyright holders need to agree to the re-licensing! Bug#529087: vim: please implement a --drop-empty option
Package: vim Version: 2:7.2.148-2 Severity: wishlist Hi and thanks for maintaining this very important package in Debian! :-) I use VIM for many tasks. Among other things, I often use View as a pager, that is to say: I pipe the output of a command to it. $ some_command | view - It works great in all cases, but one. When the output is empty, View starts with an empty buffer and the splash screen. This is not really useful, since it just shows me that the output was empty and I have to issue the :q command to exit. A typical example is with diff: $ diff my_file your_file | view - It would be useful if VIM had an option that made it automatically close new empty buffers. This option could be named --drop-empty or something like that. It would work as follows: when vim (or view, or ...) is started with this option, any newly created buffer is checked and automatically closed if found to be empty. This way, my use of View as a pager would automatically exit (with 0 exit status, of course, because nothing went wrong) when the output of some_command is empty: $ some_command | view --drop-empty - Another nice use of this option could be opening many files, but only editing already existing ones: $ ls foo.txt bar.txt baz.txt $ vim --drop-empty foo.txt bar.txt unreal.txt baz.txt never_born.txt In this case, VIM would allow me to edit foo.txt, bar.txt, and baz.txt, but not waste my time in allowing me to create the non-existent unreal.txt and never_born.txt. This could be useful when you want to edit already existing files, without creating new ones, and you do *not* know in advance which files exist (among the ones of a given list). Could this new feature be implemented? Bug#526471: patches that fix bug #526471
Hi! As promised, here's a patch that fixes the bug. I prepare it with git format-patch against the public git repository. Please note that I also modified the changelog and the AUTHORS file. While doing this, I noticed that the entry for pbuilder/0.187 was missing from the public git repository, though it is indeed present in the package currently in Debian unstable and testing. I restored this changelog entry, by copying it from my box's /usr/share/doc/pbuilder/changelog.gz I think that someone should check and make sure that nothing else included in pbuilder/0.187 is missing from the public git repository. Otherwise something could get lost on next upload! My multi-part patch should follow this summary message. Bug#525761: libruby1.8: debug output in tempfile.rb should be directed to $stderr, rather than to $stdout
Package: libruby1.8 Version: 1.8.7.72-3.1 Severity: normal Hi! I noticed that /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/tempfile.rb sends debug output (when $DEBUG is true) to $stdout. See the following two lines: print removing , path, ... if $DEBUG and print done\n if $DEBUG I think that this is a bug, since this behavior could mess up with the normal output and produce wrong results, whenever the normal output is intended to be machine-readable. It is my understanding that this behavior is unintentional: debug output (when enabled with the $DEBUG variable) should be directed to $stderr . Please fix those two lines so that they send debug output to $stderr and forward this bug report upstream, as appropriate. Bug#524732: simutrans: license is not Artistic as in common-licenses
Package: simutrans Version: 102.0-1 Severity: normal Hi and thanks for maintaining Simutrans in Debian! I noticed something awkward in the debian/copyright file. It claims that the license for the package (except for a single font file) is Artistic. Then it quotes this Artistic license text fully. As soon as I saw this, I thought it should refer to /usr/share/common-licenses/Artistic instead and I was almost rushing to fire up reportbug to say so... but, then I looked closer and I found out that the quoted license text differs from /usr/share/common-licenses/Artistic A gzipped wdiff output between /usr/share/common-licenses/Artistic and the license of Simutrans (as quoted in the debian/copyright) is attached. Hence, it's OK that the license text is quoted in full in the debian/copyright file, but it's *not* OK that this license is called Artistic, since the copyright file format specification (http://wiki.debian.org/Proposals/CopyrightFormat?action=recallrev=226) defines Artistic as The original Artistic license, as seen in /usr/share/common-licenses/Artistic. Please change the misleading label to something more appropriate (probably other). Moreover, I cannot find any debian-legal thread about this modified Artistic license for Simutrans. Was this license analyzed in order to check that simutrans really belongs in Debian main? Could you point me to the relevant thread? I fear that mislabelling the license as Artistic could have caused some easy fast It's OK for main conclusion... Please clarify. artistic.wdiff.gz Description: GNU Zip compressed data
Bug#524740: firmware-nonfree: debian/copyright file seems to be outdated
Package: firmware-nonfree Version: 0.15 Severity: important Hi! Let me first thank you for maintaining this package in non-free, and for moving Linux-kernel-shipped non-free firmware blobs from the Linux kernel package to it. IMHO, this is really the Right Thing™ to do, as it abides by the Debian SC, keeps Debian (main) untainted by those non-free firmware files, while making it easy to install them whenever a user needs them for his/her hardware. OK, that said, it seems to me that the debian/copyright file is now outdated: it lacks a number of licenses for some recently added firmware files (such as ATI Rage 128 and Radeon ones, Matrox G20/G400/G550 ones, and so forth, added in version 0.15). Please update the debian/copyright file, so that it reflects the current content of the package. Bug#522243: iceweasel: please include the User Agent Switcher add-on
Package: iceweasel Version: 3.0.7-1 Severity: wishlist Hi! I would like to be able to easily switch between different user agent strings (it's useful for some stupid web sites that refuse to work when you announce yourself as a browser and/or platform they don't want to know anything about...). I followed the instructions on http://www.geticeweasel.org/useragent/ and installed the User Agent Switcher (which is apparently distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL v3 license), along with the Firefox 2 (Windows XP) definition file. It seems to work, but... doing all these steps manually is really unpractical (and repeating them for each user and/or box is a real pain). Bug#518688: caret: debian/copyright file includes a confusing part
Package: caret Version: 5.6.1~dfsg.1-1 Severity: normal Hi! Thanks for packaging this interesting piece of software for Debian! I took a look at the debian/copyright file and I am confused by the Files: caret_uniformize/* section. It says that those files are under the GNU GPL v2 or later, which is fine, of course. But then it quotes the following text: This source code has been derived from parts of the AFNI package (http://afni.nimh.nih.gov). The copyright statement refers to a 'README.copyright' file, which contains the licensing terms of AFNI. This file is not available in the Caret source distribution, but only included in the binary distribution as 'copyright.afni'. A verbatim copy is provided here. Note, that it also contains the licenses of all third-party code distributed with the AFNI package, but not within Caret. and then goes on quoting this README.copyright file entirely, including the full text of the GNU GPL v2 and of the OpenContent License v1.0 (that is http://opencontent.org/opl.shtml). Well, I find this to be confusing and misleading. First off, the full text of the GNU GPL v2 should not be included in a debian/copyright file, since it may be found in /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-2 (see Policy 12.5: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile) Moreover, I would like to not see the OpenContent License v1.0 text in the debian/copyright file of a package in main, since this license does *not* meet the DFSG, as explained in: http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/1999/03/msg00046.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/1999/03/msg00048.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/1999/11/msg00104.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/1999/11/msg00111.html I understand that no file actually included in the caret package is distributed under the non-free terms of the OpenContent License v1.0, hence this does *not* seem to be a serious bug. However, I think that including the full text of an extraneous license in the debian/copyright file of a package is confusing and misleading. I hope the debian/copyright file can be changed into a less confusing form. P.S.: the Homepage: field currently points to http://brainmap.wustl.edu/caret, which basically 404s me... I think the upstream homepage moved. Maybe to http://brainvis.wustl.edu/wiki/index.php/Caret:About I suggest updating the Homepage: field. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#516592: audacious: fails to show a rolled up playlist editor window
Package: audacious Version: 1.5.1-4 Severity: normal On my Debian testing boxes, after upgrading the first packages that migrated from sid to squeeze (that is to say, after my boxes became squeeze systems), I began to experience a new audacious bug. If I start audacious with a configuration where the playlist editor window is shown and rolled up: $ grep playlist_[vs] ~/.config/audacious/config playlist_shaded=TRUE playlist_visible=TRUE then audacious fails to actually paint the rolled up playlist editor window. In the screen area that should be covered by the rolled up playlist editor window, I see whatever other programs paint or painted, but not the playlist window. I mean: I initially see the X background; then I see some portion of popup window as soon as one overlaps the screen area where the playlist window should be drawn; if I start a screensaver which paints the screen with, say, a blue color, then, as the screensaver stops, I see a blue rectangle where the playlist window should be... Clicking on Roll up Playlist Editor (from the View menu) does not seem to help. On the other hand, if I start audacious with a configuration where the playlist editor window is shown, but not rolled up: $ grep playlist_[vs] ~/.config/audacious/config playlist_shaded=FALSE playlist_visible=TRUE then audacious correctly paints the complete playlist editor window. At that point, if I roll it up, audacious correctly shows it and I can enjoy a working rolled up playlist editor window. So, in summary, starting audacious with a rolled up playlist window fails to work correctly, but starting it with a complete (non rolled up) playlist window does not cause any problem... This is a regression, since it has worked fine on my Debian testing boxes, as long as they were lenny boxes. It stopped working, when my boxes became squeeze boxes. Since audacious is still the same version on lenny, squeeze and sid, the cause must be in some dependency that was upgraded soon after the lenny release. Bug#516604: devtodo: when started with --purge option, todo seems to start an endless loop
Package: devtodo Version: 0.1.20-4 Severity: normal When I try to purge all completed items older than 730 days (about 2 years), todo seems to enter an endless loop or something. It eats up one entire CPU core, but does nothing until I hit [Ctrl+C] to kill it. $ md5sum ~/.todo 7daf1e8843676c13be3faf01a6164fa7 /home/frx/.todo $ todo --purge 730 1137448676 1172245498 1139250934 1172245498 1139702306 1172245498 1146322810 1172245498 1149378176 1172245498 1150134269 1172245498 1152218683 1172245498 1165435526 1172245498 1167008291 1172245498 1167438893 1172245498 1184105153 1172245498 1137949006 1172245498 1139551933 1172245498 1141683194 1172245498 1142730463 1172245498 1147030031 1172245498 1149011335 1172245498 1149345594 1172245498 1149952562 1172245498 1151768833 1172245498 1163293138 1172245498 1162216510 1172245498 1163018517 1172245498 1164577113 1172245498 1166140723 1172245498 1167692327 1172245498 1168546306 1172245498 1170401748 1172245498 1170700223 1172245498 1171840967 1172245498 1140918064 1172245498 1143651363 1172245498 1143157680 1172245498 1146866456 1172245498 1150821864 1172245498 1152985396 1172245498 1153607614 1172245498 1154121264 1172245498 1159050071 1172245498 1161556730 1172245498 1172187138 1172245498 1144094956 1172245498 1144274692 1172245498 1155417428 1172245498 1160433500 1172245498 1179504949 1172245498 1145656697 1172245498 3472609779529180486 1172245498 3472609779529180486 1172245498 9872064 1172245498 9876640 1172245498 1124571789 1172245498 1130002456 1172245498 1130101822 1172245498 1164058125 1172245498 1120083806 1172245498 1222614744 1172245498 1104279682 1172245498 1105309491 1172245498 1115839147 1172245498 1124028656 1172245498 1125528928 1172245498 1161633478 1172245498 1137893742 1172245498 1139874273 1172245498 1143584613 1172245498 1183928177 1172245498 1104790560 1172245498 1141578358 1172245498 1229168082 1172245498 1129479537 1172245498 1151094274 1172245498 1107988787 1172245498 1190584921 1172245498 1125616376 1172245498 1145975352 1172245498 8751620394453328230 1172245498 1188925278 1172245498 1159808530 1172245498 0 1172245498 ^C $ md5sum ~/.todo 7daf1e8843676c13be3faf01a6164fa7 /home/frx/.todo Please note that the output is written in its entirety almost immediately after todo is started. Bug#476988: 0.0.95 release
Hi Junichi, I cloned the apt-listbugs git repository, applied my changes (which take apt-listbugs to version 0.0.95), created one commit and prepared a patch with format-patch , as you suggested. The patch should follow this message. Next time I'll try and split my changes in more than one commit... Please apply the patch and upload version 0.0.95 to the Debian archive. Thanks in advance. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
