Bug#1030938: os-prober: Does not detect OpenSuse Tumbleweed
Package: os-prober Version: 1.81 Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-Cc: bea...@videotron.ca Debian Sid updated Grub today and when os-prober ran via update-grub it did not detect my OpenSuse Tumbleweed partition. The update had installed the new Grub so I could not boot into Tumbleweed. Now I have held all the grub packages so I won't be faced with this again. The Tumbleweed grub installation and it's version of os-prober does detect both Debian and Fedora on another partition. FYI Fedoras os-prober also doesn't detect Tumbleweed but that's a problem I'll report to them. -- System Information: Debian Release: bookworm/sid APT prefers stable-security APT policy: (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.1.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages os-prober depends on: ii grub-common 2.06-8 ii libc62.36-8 ii mount2.38.1-4 os-prober recommends no packages. os-prober suggests no packages. -- no debconf information

Bug#910612: (no subject)
Apparently not on my machine. I usually put symlinks into /home/Picturestoday when I changed the symlinks to point to another dorectory, it started looking for the pics in the old directory for several starts in a row. I had to go into /home/frank/.cache and clean out the directory. Running 5.40-1 according to Debian.

Bug#836669: More
I filed basically this same bug at the GIT site for mate. This was their reply: This is with Caja 1.14 as shipped b Debian? That version is not compatable with GTK 3.21.5. Debian updated GNOME to version 3.21.91, which pulls in GTK 3.21.5 but did not update MATE, in which Caja and mate-settings-daemon must also be updated to development versions in order to work. The segfaults are caused by the "information" sidebar which was fixed with 1.15.0, and the desktop redraw issue was fixed in 1.15.4, the current development version. Many GTK errors have been stopped in Caja git master, also since GTK 3.20 a LOT of programs not just from MATE have spewed warnings. For now you have two options to get MATE working until 1.16 ships and Debian picks it up: roll back GTK3 to version 3,.20 (which will force uninstallation of GNOME) or use these two packages offered at https://archive.org/details/DebianPackagesForMate-desktopWityGtk3AndCustomPanelTheme https://archive.org/download/DebianPackagesForMate-desktopWityGtk3AndCustomPanelTheme/caja-gtk3.22_1.15.4-11uke1_amd64.deb https://archive.org/download/DebianPackagesForMate-desktopWityGtk3AndCustomPanelTheme/mate-settings-daemon-gtk3.22_1.15.1git20160804-1luke1_amd64.deb Those links are good now, if the packages are superseded the links will break but the newer replacements will be at the same website and these packages will move to the "older versions" directory there. … @raveit65 MATE member raveit65 commented 9 hours ago • edited Mate debian Maintainers have decided not to use 1.15 packages from us, so file out a bug against debian bug reporting system an wake up those guys.. @raveit65 raveit65 closed this 9 hours ago

Bug#809296: config file example

Bug#809296: Thanks for the quick action!
Appreciate it...even if I am one of the few running wbar :) -- Do not handicap your children by making their lives easy. -- Robert Heinlein--Time Enough For Love--
Bug#809296: wbar-config in same package garbles the config file.
Package: wbar Version: 2.3.4-4 Severity: normal Making changes to the wbar configuration using wbar-config garbles the second line of the $HOME/.wbar file which normally contains the parameters to wbar. This behavior is inevitable since some files have been moved between the packages as opposed to Mate upstream or 1.6.0. We can't really fix this problem, but it anyway affects only people who were previously using the Mate upstream repositories. Just run apt-get with the following options: apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-overwrite -f install Then again, run apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade. Cheers, Adrian I removed upstream from my apt list some time ago...I guess this was a leftover. Thanks for the advice. Appreciate it. Yes I've been booting them everyday for the past month or so - the PAE series is the first time in years, literally, that I have had problems like this. We have provided kernel packages using PAE for a long time, previously labelled as '686-bigmem'. You can test linux-image-2.6.38-2-686-bigmem to check whether this bug is related to use of PAE. However, I think it is probably due to a change between Linux 2.6.38 and 2.6.39. Well I **think** the bigmem kernel now is actually the PAE kernel. I installed the bigmem kernel and it turned out to be the troublesome PAE version. Right. It has been renamed because it is now the only '686' flavour, but has different hardware requirements from the old '686' flavour. It is just possible that the circuitry for PAE is faulty, but I think that is only a very small part of the chip. Please do consider the suggestions inhttp://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11/. Will do. Well I have solved this problem..but I'm not sure I like the solution. I installed the new 3.0.0 kernel this morning and started trying changing things in the BIOS setup. Nothing worked to allow me to boot UNTIL I turned off what Intel calls hyper-threading. Now the kernel boots fine, but according to lshw-gtk, the system sees only one CPU. This is a dual-core system which was always seen by Linux as a dual core with in effect two CPU's. What's the connection between hyper-threading , and PAE which is apparently the only change in the new kernels ?? -- Cheers Frank -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I believe the processor in your computer should support this, but could you confirm what model you have (look at the file /proc/cpuinfo)? processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 15 model : 2 model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz stepping : 9 cpu MHz: 2593.138 cache size : 512 KB physical id: 0 siblings : 2 core id: 0 cpu cores : 1 apicid : 0 initial apicid : 0 fdiv_bug : no hlt_bug: no f00f_bug : no coma_bug : no fpu: yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level: 2 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe pebs bts cid xtpr bogomips : 5186.27 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment: 128 address sizes : 36 bits physical, 32 bits virtual power management: processor : 1 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 15 model : 2 model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz stepping : 9 cpu MHz: 2593.138 cache size : 512 KB physical id: 0 siblings : 2 core id: 0 cpu cores : 1 apicid : 1 initial apicid : 1 fdiv_bug : no hlt_bug: no f00f_bug : no coma_bug : no fpu: yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level: 2 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe pebs bts cid xtpr bogomips : 5187.60 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment: 128 address sizes : 36 bits physical, 32 bits virtual power management: That's it...it alledgedly supports PAE This sounds like there is some sort of hardware fault, but I can't see why it would only occur when using PAE. It is just possible that the circuitry for PAE is faulty, but I think that is only a very small part of the chip. Please do consider the suggestions inhttp://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11/. Will do. -- Cheers Frank -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
