If you clic on them you will see they fail because it want to use rpmbuild. But It fails, so at least add rpmbuild suggest/recommends or disable that option in kdevelop Debian package. The problem with the applet is that it search always for
/proc/acpi/battery/BATx, but this is not always the correct name for the
battery. In my laptop the name is /proc/acpi/battery/CMB0, so It can't
find it. I don't know if it has a cannonical name,... I've changed in

Bug#445432: unconditional modprobe unwanted

The best thing for a user is automatic installation of this module via the conglomerate module packages, along with the linux-image package. In this case it would be ridiculous to have every out of tree driver that is part of the conglomerate to modprobe itself. This module is *not* part of main kernel tree. This is why it's not in linux-image package. The Debian Social Contract in its point 4 says: *4.- Our priorities are our users and free software * Only a few users doesn't like this behaviour. If you install the built module is in order to use it. And if you install it in a chroot, again, I supose you are going to use it. If you want to debug or other things, then this package is not for you. Another use case is installation of module binary package in a live debian cd chroot, automatic modprobe of module makes no sense in the build chroot. Unconditional modprobe of out of tree kernel drivers does not scale to all possible uses of the module source package, so I could only plead with you that you could change your mind about this cheap, one-time executed, small piece of code. While modprobing modprobe et131x 2/dev/null || true the module might not be intended by merely installing a module package in chroot (and similar) environments or even make debugging more difficult (modprobing a new module with debug parameters (et131x_debug_flags, et131x_debug_level, ...). Other module packages (especially in the wlan arena) tend not to try this and leave the insmod to the user or udev (on boot), especially given that it fails quite often (installing new kernel and module package at the same time, yes I see that the return value is disregarded anyways). Here, I don't agree. We must to do to the user to be installations as easy as possible. If you want to do debug, then you know what are you doing, so you don't need to use the built package for your kernel. The target of this package is *users*. As you said, the wlan modules have a lot of parameters (essid, wpa/wep configuration, keys...) that do that it's very difficult it works, but this works in 90% without touch anything (NetworkManager and DHCP helps). Besides this, there are no further custom modifications to postinst, besides the automatically added debhelper stanza for depmod. Feel free to close this bug report. Thanks for you report bug! It could be used with other scanners. There are other software as NBIS that could be partially dowloaded out of USA and completely in USA because has exportation problems. It's a high quality software in public domain. There are two parts that can't be exported, the matching and the segmentation programs. I've found them out of USA, but I'm not sure if it's legal to use them. This is the software used by FBI. The last part of this puzzle is the pam module, but first I must enhace fvs software, or write the NBIS software that is unavailable out of USA or find other software that could be used.
