Dear Maintainer,

Well I checked and its not Synaptics fault. Other front ends fail also. It
seems to be that my hard drive is failing. So I suppose you can close this bug.

Sorry for the inconvenience,

Mika

Bug#724890: /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper: Ndiswrapper fails with sh: 1: Syntax error: end of file unexpected

2013-09-29 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: ndiswrapper-common
Version: 1.58-2

File: /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper

Dear Maintainer,

I got a used pci wlan card that happens to be mrv8355 and needs ndiswrapper to
work. I found that out from the Debian wiki here:
https://wiki.debian.org/libertas#Supported_Devices

The Ndiswrapper Debian wiki page https://wiki.debian.org/NdisWrapper

I also checked here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/mrv8k

So here is what I did and the results on command line.

After reboot another try no change. I suspected the lines to be added to the
file /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper-1.9 are needed for things to load up.

If I can help tracing this down anyhow please let me know.

Bug#673589: gnome-online-accounts: Google account credentials expire immediately after login

2013-09-12 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: gnome-online-accounts
Version: 3.8.3-1
Followup-For: Bug #673589

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

So my earlier info was incomplete. I found this bug #717945 in libgcr that
might be related to my problem. The workaround was also from that report.

The Gnome upstream had deemed this bug to be related to two factor
authentication with the original reporter. My situation is not related to two
factor authentication as I am not using it. Maybe a name change for this bug
and another bug that links to libgcr would clear things up.

Bug#722223: pangoft: GIMP 2.8 segfaults when selecting fonts

Dear Maintainer,

Use Gimp to add and edit text. Use toolbar to select font for the text and
scroll for the one you want. After a while of scrolling Gimp crashes. I
searched the logs for signs and found this in kern.log.
Sep 6 11:16:52 this kernel: [11329.417012] gimp-2.8[31007]: segfault at 58 ip

Tried again and everytime I scroll fonts it segfaults. I can select font by
writing the real font name.

Bug#707544: synaptic: After Update Synaptic Fails to Change Preferred Version

2013-05-09 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: synaptic
Version: 0.80
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I updated synaptic and tried to check what versions of software are available
from Experimental. So I went to Settings, Preferences, Distribution and
selected Prefer versions from Experimental. Clicked apply and Ok. Checked what
is available in Installed(upgradable) And it didn't reload as before it did.
Went back to check what is selected in the Preferences menu and its still the
original value. Tried again and saw that it had dublicated the entries in the
Prefer versions from: Combobox.

I expected it to select Experimental and to update the upgradeable software
item to show the experimental software updates.

Here is the console output from the situation:

Bug#706632: efibootmgr: I confirm this bug

2013-05-08 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: efibootmgr
Version: 0.5.4-5
Followup-For: Bug #706632

Dear Maintainer,

The first install I made with my new or actually used UEFI enabled computer was
from Steves update 2 of EFI boot network install CD:s. A while later I needed
to do it again so I did it from update4 as it was the latest at that point.
Both worked. After I updated the kernel and grub I ended up in Windows without
any grub menu. So to fix this I came back to my Debian install with SuperGrub2
CD. After several tries with efibootmgr and different ways I cannot add an
entry to the UEFI Boot table.

When running this command I expect to get an entry to the table:

#efibootmgr --create --gpt --disk /dev/sda --part 4 --write-signature --label
GRUB2 --loader '\EFI\debian\grubx64.efi'

Bug#674931: flashplugin-nonfree: After upgrade double flash plugins are installed, that causes Totem to run instead of Flashplugin.

2012-05-28 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 1:2.8.4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I had a problem with Flash-plugin after upgrading my system. I think it started
in about a weeks time. I upgraded some packages from Experimental as upgrading
all that was available in unstable tried to remove packages in other cases.

   * What led up to the situation?
I think an upgrade inside a couple weeks did.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I tried to read the Epaper that I usually read on my Ubuntu laptop on my Debian
Unstable / Experimental desktop.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Flash plugin didn't run but instead I saw Totem video plugin.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Flash to start and the paper to load. I had the same problem with flash videos.

The situation was the same for Chromium.

I found a work around by disabling the other (old) plugin in Iceweasels config.

2012-02-19 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.2.2.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #660069

Dear Maintainer,

I have found a upstream bug that explains this situation and the reason behind
it.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=663815

Usual info:
   * What led up to the situation?
I tried to launch an application from gnome-shell application overlay.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
typed to search on activities.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Crash of the shell and a reload. After three reloads a logout.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Applications matching search being launchable.

As a workaround while this is broken just open applications from gnome-
terminal.

Bug#618376: gnome-mime-data: After updating to gnome3 the file:// links start opening with different programs

2011-03-14 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: gnome-mime-data
Version: 2.18.0-1
Severity: important

So a while after installing gnome3 packages from Experimental I found out that
the file manager links started opening with wrong applications. file:// for me
started opening with Clamtk antivirus gui. Files link in the menu worked fine
so i supposed it must be Mime type related.

After a while of searching I found this forum post about the same problem.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1151325

The site provides solutions to this problem. One of them is to open
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list and edit the line with
inode/directory= text

Bug#608935: Nautilus crashes when it tries to open a text entry box while renaming or creating a folder

2011-01-05 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.91.4-1
Severity: normal

After upgrading a bunch of packages from experimental to test new software I
noticed that Nautilus started crashing. It crashes when it tries to rename or
create a folder. Though this is just a hunch it seems to be related to the text
entry box that is needed for user input.

Bug#558313: [update-notifier] Starts package manager with wrong PATH=

2009-11-27 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: update-notifier
Version: 0.70.7.debian-7
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

When selecting the start package manager menu item from the applet it
starts gksu and grants rights for synaptic. But when trying to install
packages from an instance of synaptic that is started this way it gives
the following errors. So it seems the path is not transferred to roots
path.

Synaptic started from the menu item in gnome menu works normally.

Bug#557871: [boinc-client] Isn't able to use suitable Nvidia GPU for calculations

2009-11-24 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: boinc-client
Version: 6.10.17+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I started working on using the GPU for boinc projects and found out that
it didn't work. After some searching I found out that it is because the
client is getting loaded too early. Client only checks for suitable GPUs
when it starts. Then I tried to restart it and found out that the user
boinc needs to be in group video atleast for nvidia cuda to work.

This thread speaks of the same problem.
http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=1384nowrap=true#12852

Now it crunches numbers just nicely as I've changed the startup scripts
links to S32boinc-client ordering them later than the nvidia driver.

Bug#523460: [xserver-xorg-input-kbd] It broke all my keyboard and mouse input to Xorg

2009-04-22 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: xserver-xorg-input-kbd
Version: 1:1.3.2-3

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

After the update to 7.4 xserver-xorg my keyboard and mouse didn't work.
I tried to comment the serverlayout and core-keyboard and core-pointer parts
of the config but it didn't help.

In etc/default/console-setup I found the lines for my keyboard.

I removed the xorg.conf file, dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg,
dpkg-reconfigure -phigh hal, /etc/init.d/gdm restart and it started working
again.
Now it autoloads keyboard and mouse properly with a xorg.conf that has only a
device section for core device.

Bug#433448: [gnome-session] I got ten instances of a program on saved session startup.

2009-02-10 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: gnome-session
Version: 2.22.3-2

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I think I found a related bug on my system just a few days ago. I had
just set gnome-session-properties to save session = enabled for a
while. After a few reboots I went to disable it as it didn't meet my
needs. To my surprise I found out that I'm running ten instances of
seahorse-agent with different sm-config-prefix options. Seahorse-agent
didn't have the parameter --sm-disable.

I disabled the instances by saving a session where I killed them. Though
I think the instances shouldn't have been there in the first place.

The other programs that had --sm-disable didn't save to the session and
start multiple instances anymore. So if thats the only case this issue
is tracking it can probably be closed.

Though gnome-session should probably still have a bug on saved sessions
as the above behaviour isn't what people want.

Bug#489487: [totem-gstreamer] Related stuff and a workaround

Hello

It seems to be the XV-hue attribute that is setup or read or
understood incorrectly. (Or differently for the video players, drivers
and backends)

When playing content in Totem you can go to the preferences and set
the Display, Color balance, Hue slider either to the right or the left
side and it displays normal colors.

I don't quite see why should gxine be driven in debugger as the
problem comes already when installing the package. Though the program
also segfaults when trying to run but thats normal when the program

Works fine here... I'm going to have to ask you to make sure that gdb and
libxine1-dbg are installed then to provide a backtrace.

Also, does this happen with libxine1* 1.1.12-2?

Recheck was succesful. I'am running a 2.6.23.14 kernel compiled with
4.3. And make-kpkg clean did clean the preprocessed source when I
tried again. So a close might be in order for this one...

Ummm... the log you attached does not seem to show the problem .

Can you please attach the following files:

Menu.lst shows me that my problem might be a symptom of vesafb-tng
getting the wrong vga parameter. Though I think its not too likely.
Vesafb-tng takes the parameter in a different format than normal
vesafb included in kernel. All my earlier installed kernels were
vesafb-tng patched. Now I have installed a new version of Debian kernel.

 And the output of:
 cat /proc/fb
# cat /proc/fb
0 VESA VGA

 cat /proc/cmdline
cat /proc/cmdline
root=/dev/sdb1 ro video=vesafb:[EMAIL PROTECTED] splash

Hmm this is in the right format for vesafb-tng. Because I started this
time from the other installed Debians grub which has an old command
line not updated with update-grub in the other system. But I'm quite
sure that I tried with this grub too when the problem surfaced.
 ls -l /dev/fb*
# ls -l /dev/fb*

and the output of uname -a
# uname -a

I'll try to install it again and use the debian kernel with the
correct boot parameters for vga.

Bug#455573: Splashy made system unable to boot

2007-12-18 Thread Mika Rastas
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi

I would have booted the system with the debian kernel but it cannot
boot because of initramfs not working. I have an serial ata root and
the drivers aren't loaded without the initrd.

So I've tried again with the two kernels mentioned before 2.6.21 and
2.6.18 both compiled with vesafb-tng patch. When I start without the
splash it starts fine until gdm should start. When gdm doesn't come up
I just logged in to the console and tried to start it manually and it
didn't start.

And the splashy install script complained about initrd not changed log
attached. Might the initrd problems in yaird and newer kernels be
causing this.

Anything else I could try? I would try to compile another newer kernel
but I can't get it to boot because of the yaird (initrd) problem.

Here are the errors I get from the console when boot stops for
maintenance (the last lines visible):

Starting the hotplug events dispatcher: udevdSplashy ERROR: Connection

Bug#454647: Compiling kernel 2.6.23-1 results in Internal Compiler Error

2007-12-06 Thread Mika Rastas
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: gcc
Version: 4:4.2.1-6
Severity: important

- --- Please enter the report below this line. ---

So I have had a hard time compiling the latest kernel from the debian
linux-source package.

At first when I downloaded the package with synaptic the source
tar.bz2 was somehow corrupted. When extracting the archive tar gave an
error. So I removed the package, the package cache and installed it
again. The second install of linux-source-2.6.23-1 went ok. This is
propably not related to this bug report...

After extraction made the link, config and make-kpkg clean.

Compiling command was
make-kpkg --revision=3:Birdikerneleivesatng2.6.23-1 kernel_image

The make-kpkg complained about the hyphenation in the revision but I
don't think it has anything to do with this?

This is the compiler output:

Bug#426800: Graphical errors in game. Screenshot linked.

2007-06-01 Thread Mika Rastas

Hi

I'm using nvidia beta drivers 100.13.06 now. Earlier if I remember
correctly I was using the stable 9755 drivers with the same results.
I've installed the drivers with nvidia installer.

Might it matter that I have xorg set up so that I can occasionally try
compiz. (though I wasn't running compiz at the time of problem) So I
have in xorg.conf AllowGLXWithComposite true, AddARGBVisuals true,
rendererAccel true.

After a recent update Gajim doesn't work with my keyring. First the
keyring password checker didn't accept the correct password. (A
problem also seen in seahorse when trying to open the passwords tab).
After a little playing around I removed the old keyring and noticed
that it cannot generate a new one. Gajim doesn't start without
generating a new keyring.

I tried to generate a new keyring with gnome-keyring-manager and it
can. Though gajim cannot use that keyring when starting up.

Bug#422231: It's splashy's bug after all...

2007-05-07 Thread Mika Rastas
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Brice Goglin wrote:
What's your kernel command line? Does the problem go away if you remove

If framebuffer console is enabled, could you try without it?
When I removed the splash screen command line option (splashy) the
screen came clear. Tested on two computers. And a few boots.

When digging a bit in to splashy I found this:

http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/splashy-devel/2007-April/000674.html

So now it seems that it has been splashy 0.3.2 that caused the problems.

After updating to 0.3.3 I have not seen problems with any kernel or
xorg. (On a small number of boots though)

So I think this report can be closed and maybe before that moved to
splashy package?

Thank you for all the assistance!

Keep up the great work

Bug#422231: xserver-xorg-core: Found out the bug is only visible when running a 2.6.20 kernel.

2007-05-06 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.1.1-21
Followup-For: Bug #422231

So I downgraded a bunch of packages. It didn't make a change. After that
I remembered that at first were thinking that the bug might be related to my
kernel upgrade.

So about 5 boots later I'am firmly confident that the problem shows
itself only on kernel 2.6.20. On this computer I have compiled my kernel from
debian
sources with the vesa-tng patch. On the other computer the kernel is the
official debian kernel 2.6.20-1-k7. On 2.6.18 self compiled it's all
good.

Also The black rectangles are only shown when in X. Not when I'am in a
console with framebuffer.

Might the kernel be the source of the bug after all? Or is the kernel
doing something different and xorg is not upto it yet?

I'll try to compile the latest from kernel.org and see if its any
different.

So it didn't get fixed that quick. :) I tried looking at kernel bugs on
debian bug tracker but didn't see anything like this.

I've tried on another machine and the behaviour is visible. At first I
thought it was a problem with nvidia closed blob drivers but since the
other machine does the same it's clearly not.

Downgraded these packages while the screen was good. After that restarted
xserver through gdm.
Screen was clear. After a system reboot the rectangles were different but there
again.
This was done with the nv(open) driver. Here is another screenshot

I tested the same version on another machine and confirmed the behaviour.

It lets you add programs to favorites normally until you remove the
evolution or file-manager favorite.

When I removed the file-manager from favourites the other favourites
weren't shown anymore. Only evolution was shown.

When I used the more applications button to check what the status on
the programs in question were it shows that they are selected to
favourites. It doesn't show them in the menu though. If remove
evolution also it doesn't show any applications at all in the menu. On
next opening of the other buttons lets say documents the applications
item disappears.

I've also tried to modify the xml file applications.xbel in
~/.local/share/gnome-main-menu/ when i removed the bookmarks the
applications button comes back. When I add a few applications back to
favorites it goes away again. I've attached applications.xbel file in
question.

Bug#420619: Applications button dissappears when more than two applications added to favourites.

2007-04-23 Thread Mika Rastas

Package: gnome-main-menu

- --- Please enter the report below this line. ---

When adding an application to the favourites via the application
browser if there allready are two applications in the menu it doesn't
show anything. The applications button dissappears and the more
applications... button cannot be easily pushed to remove the newly
added favourite.

User can however run the /usr/lib/gnome-main-menu/application-browser
via command line and remove the third favourite application and get
the main-menu applications button to appear again. I'am guessing that
there is a setting for the number of applications in the menu to be
shown defaulting to two. Still it seems that this behaviour isn't wanted.

When running from a command line I noticed the following errors being
reported to the command line. These didn't come after I removed the
third favourite.(I think at first try I had something like seven
favourites selected)

Bug#420625: Qingy doesn't let go of the framebuffer so that closed nvidia driver can get loaded or vise versa.

2007-04-23 Thread Mika Rastas
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: qingy
Version: 0.9.3ds1-1
Severity: minor

- --- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I was trying out the qingy package for tty2 and noticed that after an
xorg update near 20.4.2007 and after that the usual nvidia-binary
driver installer run X didn't start with gdm. It worked fine when I
changed the nvidia driver back to the open source nv one. Allso nvidia
drivers worked fine when I disabled qingy from tty2 and went back to
using getty.

Thats why the minor flag. Also This might better belong to nvidia
driver package not this one but I thought you'd like to know. (I've
read something about nvidia's driver locking the bus so that for
instance the temperature monitoring is hard for us open source guys...)

Other tty's are in resolution 1280x1024 so They are too using the
frame-buffer. And my frame-buffer is from vesa-tng so that's one other
place to blame if you so want to do ;). And the kernel has been
make-kpkg compiled from debian kernels sources with the vesa-tng patch.

Sorry for the trouble of reading this as its related to closed source
binary blob driver too.

Was the password dialog from ssh command/library responsible? The

Argh. Is the prompt when connecting with the command line still the

With the old server it gives:

I was thinking should I update nautilus and a bunch of other packages
too, if my problem might be coming from there?

Theoretically no, this is all in gnome-vfs.

Ok
Offcourse I'd like to know how usable is experimental gnome packages
 today?

Currently I think they are better than the unstable packages, as most
 important issues have been fixed.
Maybe I'll try the packages later on anyway.

Bug#379106: libgnomevfs2-0: Tried the newer version 2.16.3-4 from experimental

2007-02-26 Thread Mika Rastas
Package: libgnomevfs2-0
Version: 1:2.16.3-4
Followup-For: Bug #379106

Hi again

So I tried the newer version and it didn't fix the problem. I still just
get an Unknown error code 46. Not login prompt.

Anything else I can try? I would be happy to help getting into the
root of this.

Sorry

I was so tired that I couldn't think straight. So offcourse it was
available I just had a preference for version unstable. I got it running
and tried it without restart and with restart and no change.

Unknown error 46 was the last error I got. When trying to conbnect
trough the gnome menu.

When trying to connect from computer view it gives me: Nautilus cannot
display ssh://[EMAIL PROTECTED] .
It takes about 30 seconds to give that error.

Anything else I can try?

 I installed only the libgnomevfs2 1:2.16... packages didn't change
anything else.

 Hi

I think I've got the same problem or a related one.

Our univercity just switched to kerberos authentication(for the
server on the main domainname). After the change I've been
 unable to login with nautilus/libgnome-vfs.

I think for now we have the old server and a new one(both using
the same credentials). The newer one uses kerberos authentication
 and the older normal ssh.

I can login just fine on both with command line. But with places
menus shortcuts the kerberos one doesn't work the old one still
 works.

The gnome-vfs2 2.16 package in experimental is built with Kerberos
support. Does it make any difference to you?

2006-04-04 Thread Mika Rastas
Hi

Just informing you that I have the same problem with the same card SB
Live!. I've been trying to get recording to work for about 2 weeks now.
Haven't found a workaround...

I'am getting my microfone sound to my speakers directly, but i cannot
seem to record it with any settings. Allso having a problem with
gstreamer-properties, I can select alsa as a source for sound but it
cannot be tested because it crashes. Tried with gstreamer0.8 and 0.10
both installed and without 0.10.

Package: nautilus
Version: 2.12.2-2
Severity: normal

Crashes everytime when I try to open my users firefox cache directory
which has some image files and some text files. Actually I just tried

The file name is 03099467d01 and 32.2 KB in size. It is a binary file. I
can send it in a zip?

Bug#345724: Possible work around.

2006-01-03 Thread Mika Rastas

Hi

I had the same issue during nightly update. Complaint about overlapping
directories with eclipse-source.

It could be worked around (at least for me) by removing eclipse-source
and then re-installing after the eclipse-platform update.
