Bug#403877: xemacs21-nomule: dired does not work properly

2006-12-20 Thread Uwe Brauer
Package: xemacs21-nomule
Version: 21.4.19-2
Severity: normal

Dear Bug Team!

I just installed Debian Etch on a new Laptop together with the latest
XEmacs 21.4.19 nomule.
When I opened a directory in dired mode two strange things happens:
(1) at the end of the file listing I find a mounstrous string of
 the form
//DIRED// 61 62 111 113 162 174 223 241 290 299 348 353 402 411 460

//DIRED-OPTIONS// --quoting-style=literal
all in one line. I have never seen something before.

(2) while this can be considered as a design question (if so
 quite ugly) however what is more serious is that I can't set
 any longer symbolic links on marked files (individually it
 works) I have attached the backtrace
thanks

I also found the solution

(setq dired-use-ls-dired nil)

That was default in earlier versions now it is *t* which causes the
problems. Please set it to *nil* again

Hi Amaya

Sorry for the delay.
   amaya Hi, Uwe

   amaya Did you make any progress on this issue?

Well yes and no. The laptop running knoppix, various kernels 2.6.10,
2.6.13 and 2.6.15 have these problems. I should add that I compiled
that kernels myself.

I installed on the Laptop I am currently using, directly debian etch
and not any longer knoppix, the kernel which is shipped with etch ie
2.6.15-1-486 works fine with that card!

   amaya Daniel told me that he is working on ipw* this weekend and I would
like
   amaya you to look at bug http://bugs.debian.org/337920

   amaya If you upgrade to the latest available kernel version in
   amaya Debian (linux-image-2.6.18-1-ARCH), and the update ipw2100
   amaya to the version Daniel is about to upload, I think this bug
   amaya should be fixed too.

Well honestly the only thing I never did (or dared to do) was to install
a debian kernel. I usually take what comes with the installation or
compile it myself.

Given the fact that the problem seems to be connected with privately
compiled kernels, do you still want to be to install the latest
debian kernel??? (I presume apt-get install linux-image-2.6.18-1-ARCH
and rebooting (I use grub) should be fine?)

Bug#380651: apache2: can't open php files

2006-07-31 Thread Uwe Brauer
Package: apache2
Version: 2.0.55-4
Severity: normal

Hello

I tried to install for example wordpress (either using the debian
package or download it by myself). The issue is whenever I should open
say the file
install.php
then in mozilla the following message pops up
the file install.php is of type application/x-php (php script)
and mozilla does not know what to do about it

So it seems that the php4 module is not loaded, but I don't understand
why
libapache2-mod-php4
and all the php4 package are installed.

The php4.load file in
 /etc/apache2/mods-available contains

LoadModule php4_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp4.so

And this lib exists. So I don't know.

Shall I submit any other script?

Thanks

Uwe Brauer

Ps the same happens with apache 1.3 for which I will send a separate
report.

   IvanThank you.
Hello

Thanks for your answer, it did not work, first!

But then I realized what happened:

Knoppix has linked /dev/cdrom to /dev/sd0 and moreover has a boot
option which I used as well:

--8schnipp-8---

append=ramdisk_size=10 resume2=swap:/dev/hda7 lang=de
apm=power-off hda=scsi hdb=scsi hdc=scsi hdd=scsi hde=scsi hdf=scsi hdg=scsi
hdh=scsi nomce

--8schnapp-8---

That of course makes it perfectly understandable that the module
ide-scsi is always loaded. (I understand the reasons for Knoppix to
chose that append option).

When I rebooted without that option and used xcdroast it worked!

However I got the following error and I would like to have anybody
comment on it:

The ATAPI mode on a device can cause great delays in all X-CD-Roast
operations, because communication with it takes much more time. Using
a CD writer in that mode is not recommended - please use always SCSI
emulation here

The other question which I still did not resolve, why does the Knoppix
2.4.27 and 2.6.9 kernels work happily with the scsi emulation!!!

Anyway strictly speaking the BUG is resolved.

Thanks

   Steve The suggestion about using ide-cd rather than ide-scsi may

Ok, now how shall I do that,

I looked in the cdrecord manual and in the cdrecord.conf but did not

Another possibility would be to recompile the kernel which I have to

I thought the problem is caused by /etc/modules-2.6.10
but now it does not matter how the modules are put in that list. I
have to remove and insert them manually after rebooting.

Strange

Bug#347596: cdrecord: Problem with new 2.6.10 kernel (version 0.98alpha 15)

2006-01-11 Thread Uwe Brauer
Package: cdrecord
Version: 4:2.0+a38-1
Severity: important

Hello

I have installed Knoppix 3.7 which comes with a 2.4.27 and a 2.6.9
pre compiled kernel. With both kernels I have no problem using
xcdroast. Meanwhile I upgraded the system to sarge (with some packages
from sid I confess), save the kernel.

However when I compiled a new 2.6.10 kernel xcdroast/cdrecord can't
write any longer to the CD. (I have attached the error output below).
The main error message is:

cdrecord: No such device or address. Cannot send SCSI cmd via ioctl

I even compiled the 2.6.10 kernel with the config-2.6.9 from Knoppix,
but it did not help. In fact lsmod gives different results so I
suspect that some module is missing, but which? (I hesitate to attach
the output of lsmod.)

Thanks and regards

Bug#347610: ipw2100-source: problem with firmware makes driver unusable

2006-01-11 Thread Uwe Brauer
Package: ipw2100-source
Version: 1.1.3-1
Severity: important

Hello,

I am not sure, whether I should contact the ipw2000 maintainer
directly, if so I apologise for the following bug report.

First I installed Knoppix 3.7 which ships a 2.6.9 and 2.4.27 kernel,
that system has the ipw2100 driver installed, which corresponds to the
1.2 version of firmware.

I recently tried to compile and install a 2.6.10 kernel and so
installed the corresponding kernel header and the ipw2100-source
package which corresponds in my understanding to the 1.3 version of
firmware. So I installed the relevant fw files.

However when booted the new kernel the wireless card was no longer
recognised. The strange thing is that the relevant moduls seems to be
loaded.
ipw2100   150756  0

But when reading dmesg I found

But ipw2100-1.3.fw is in

 /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware

(Together with version 1.2 of)

Do I miss some init script, I even used the 2.6.9 config script of
knoppix for the kernel and recompiled, it did not work.
The knoppix kernel produces the following dmesg:

 m-a build ipw2200-source

Or do you mean that the kernel headers, of that 2.6.10 versions are
too old?

   amaya You are trying to build 2.6.10, and I think you would be
   amaya better off with a more recent version, like 2.6.15. Although
   amaya I have failed to load newer firmware versions with this one

So you too have problems, I definitely contact the ipw2100 maintainer,
but a quick look in his FAQ does not provide anything new, all the

   amaya Good luck and keep us updated on your achievements :)

Bug#317116: libmyodbc: odbcinst.ini in /etc is generated, with wrong syn

2005-07-06 Thread Uwe Brauer
Package: libmyodbc
Version: 3.51.09-1
Severity: normal

Hi  Steve

a couple of days ago I sent you an email concerning a connection
problem in a different PC.
Now I found the culprit.

For reasons unknown to me during the installation either of libmyodbc
or unixodbc the following
odbcinst.ini file is copied into /etc.
--8schnipp-8---

[MySQL]
Description = ODBC Driver for MySQL
Driver = /usr/lib/libodbc.so
Setup = /usr/lib/libodbcmyS.so
FileUsage = 1
CPTimeout =
CPReuse =
--8schnapp-8---

However this file is just wrong, the correct one is for example
shipped in /usr/share/libmyodbc

--8schnipp-8---
[MySQL]
Description = MySQL driver
Driver  = /usr/lib/odbc/libmyodbc.so
Setup   = /usr/lib/odbc/libodbcmyS.so
CPTimeout   =
CPReuse =
--8schnapp-8---

So I don't know whom to blame but I think this is an important issue.

Bug#312483: libmyodbc: Tables cannot be edited with Openoffice.

2005-06-10 Thread Uwe Brauer
 Steve == Steve Langasek [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

[snip]

Steve Right, this does seem to be trivially reproducible in
Steve sarge. It looks like there's been a change in OpenOffice
Steve that triggered it, rather than a regression in libmyodbc
Steve itself; even installing the woody version of libmyodbc
Steve doesn't get me read/write table access with the sarge
Steve version of OOo.

Your are talking about using the macro, no?

[snip]

 Sorry, what I meant, I could *NOT* install 2.50 from oldstable
 the command
 apt-get install -t oldstable libmyodb

 installed version 3.51.09 sorry for the typo.

Steve # apt-get install libmyodbc=2.50.39-3

Thanks for that one.

Steve works for me. It appears that the Release file for woody still says
Steve stable instead of oldstable, so selecting by release doesn't work
Steve currently.

[snip]

Steve And downgrading to anything earlier than 3.51.09 would also break
Steve compatibility with MySQL server 4.1.
Ok I was afraid of that, I could try the MySQL server which would
work for the 2.50 driver though, but maybe this would not work
neither (maybe I should start to use pinning.)

Now it turns out that I have a serious connection problem. The
latest upgrade of mysql which I downloaded yesterday, does not
allow anonymous connection anymore.

So right now I can't do any testing anymore on the Laptop with
the most recent Debian version.

I would highly appreciate if you could just tell me about my
.odbc setting, which I obviously have to change.

I am asking you this since I am in a state of
desperation (strictly speaking that question is a little off topic).

In recent years I followed the instructions found in
www.unixodbc.org/doc/OOoMySQL.pdf
so I used the following .odbc.ini (in my home dir) and

--8schnipp-8---
[MySQL-test]
Description = MySQL database test
Driver = MySQL
Server = localhost
user = oub
Database = test
Port = 3306
Socket =
Option =
Stmt =
--8schnapp-8---

ocbcinst.ini files in /etc

--8schnipp-8---

Description = MySQL driver
Driver  = /usr/lib/odbc/libmyodbc.so
Setup   = /usr/lib/odbc/libodbcmyS.so
FileUsage   = 1
--8schnapp-8---

Now debian overwrites the file in /etc by

--8schnipp-8---
[MySQL]
Description = MySQL driver
Driver  = /usr/lib/odbc/libmyodbc.so
Setup   = /usr/lib/odbc/libodbcmyS.so
CPTimeout   =
CPReuse =
FileUsage   = 1

--8schnapp-8---

- anonymous connection is now disabled, does this mean I have
  to set in my odbc.ini user = oub?

- is the name conflict of [MySQL] in odbcinst.ini and
[MySQL-test] a problem. I changed [MySQL-test] to [MySQL] in
my .odbc.ini file but still I get the message:

[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect

What can I do now?

Thanks

I will, right now it seems that the macro does not work any more, so
my tables continue to be _not_ editable

 I tried to install 2.50 from the oldstable release but it did not
 work.

Steve And what problem did 2.50 have?

 apt-get install -t oldstable libmyodb installed 3.51.06

Steve I don't know what you're saying here; you just said that

Sorry, what I meant, I could *NOT* install 2.50 from oldstable
the command

 Couldn't you move that version to stable,

Steve Well, no; first because it doesn't exist anywhere in the
Steve archive, and second because the policy for updates to
Steve stable releases prohibits it. This bug, if it truly
Steve renders MyODBC unusable with the current OOo packages, is
Steve irritating, but it doesn't make the package unusable for
Steve all purposes.

Well and what is about 2.50 to stable then, it is irritation to have
*no* working version neither in woody, sarge nor sid.

 I come back to you as soon as possible, since for me this is a urgent
 subject.

Steve Ok.It's a highpriority for me as well, but
Steve unfortunately, if none of the workarounds work, it's
Steve probably not fixable for sarge now. It would have been
Steve nice if someone had reported this problem in the three
Steve months since
Steve 3.51.09 was uploaded...

Right I read again the bug reports, it seem that the person who solved
his problem, compiled the necessary version for himself, I try to
contact him.

Bug#312689: mysql-server: mysql -utest does no work any longer

2005-06-09 Thread Uwe Brauer
Package: mysql-server
Version: 4.0.24-10
Severity: important

Hello

I have used myslq-server (client) via unixodbc and the Openoffice
interface for years. For me to check the installation

 mysql -utest

worked always, in suse and after switching to debian (4.0.22).

Now when I upgraded to 4.0.24 the command did not work
I got

ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' (Using password: NO

Which looks pretty much like an security issue. I looked up in the
changelog and saw some changes in the scripts in /etc/mysql.

However for me it unclear how I have to connect now to the database.

Another point: I saw that version 4.0.24 in all, three branches
(stable testing unstable) and I fail to see the rationale behind
this. If for some reason a version in unstable has a bug I could
downgrade to the older version, but now I can't. The only explanation
for this policy seems to me a serious security problem.

Right now for me the database is frankly useless and therefore any
help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Uwe Brauer

2005-06-08 Thread Uwe Brauer
Package: libmyodbc
Version: 3.51.09-1
Severity: normal

Hello

The problem: I use openoffice in order to access the mysql database
via the unicodbc driver (I have done this successfully with different
versions of Openoffice, mysql and unixodbc). Now in this particular
setting I can create tables but I cannot edit them afterwards.
According to some people at the openoffice database interface mailing
list this is a but of this particular version of libmyodbc. They
either recommend a downgrade to 3.51.06or to upgrade to another
version. The problem is that stable/testing/unstable all contain the
09 driver, I cannot install the oldstable version. Could you please do
something on that, since for me mysql is useless right now. I have
seen complains about that on the OO mailing list, but it seems that
nobody sent a bug report to debian.

Regards

Uwe Brauer

Bug#312483: libmyodbc: Tables cannot be edited with Openoffice.

 Steve == Steve Langasek [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

Steve Is this bug related to bug #240634? It has been reported since at
least
Steve 3.51.06 that there were problems with read/write accesses to
Steve MyODBC-connected databases from OOo; that bug includes a
Steve link to a workaround.

Right, I found out right now.

Steve So, I doubt that downgrading to 3.51.06 would actually help
Steve you very much; but if this workaround works for 3.51.06 and
Steve not for 3.51.09, then yes, I'm quite disappointed that no
Steve one filed a bug against libmyodbc before the release. :/

I am not sure that it helps for 3.51.06, but I am sure it does not
help for 3.51.09, that is some parts seem to work, I can add entries
but the format of these entries are not correct.

I tried to install 2.50 from the oldstable release but it did not
work.

apt-get install -t oldstable libmyodb installed 3.51.06

Couldn't you move that versión to stable,

I will try to discuss this subject on the OO mailing list, however
most of them point out to the new OO beta release, which however for
me is too buggy.

I come back to you as soon as possible, since for me this is a urgent
subject.

Bug#308607: xemacs21-nomule: cannot access lispref manual

2005-05-11 Thread Uwe Brauer
Package: xemacs21-nomule

Severity: normal

C-h i m lispref RET
does not return the lispref as it should

Locate file   lispref.info
refers to gz file in
usr/share/info/xemacs21/
 however I think it is a path problem.

Since xemacs21.4.17 was configured with
--infodir=/usr/share/info/xemacs-21.4.17
there is an inconsistency!!!

I gunziped all the files and indeed this did not help.

Please compile and install xemacs consistently!!!

Hello

I just installed tex4ht form unstable. Although it is based on a
recent version of tex4ht, I am wondering why the original scripts like
oolatex _are not_ included. This is a question of convenience and I
don't see what is the advantage of *not* including them.

Thank you very much for your efforts

Hello

as I said in the bug report 256834, it would be good to have an
upgrade. I managed to install a recent tex4ht version, however I use
alien together with checkinstall to produce a deb file. Could somebody
please point me to a documentation how to produce a *real* deb, in
order to supply a patch.

Thanks

Bug#290908: apt-get selects pgpgpg instead of pgp

2005-01-17 Thread Uwe Brauer

Package: pgp
Version: 2.6.3a-9
Severity: Important

Hi

I am on sid and installed the above pgp version.
(apt-get install -t stable pgp) (I really need pgp for the keys I have)
However I recently
installed sid on another machine and tried the same apt-get command,
however
now: apt-get selected pgpgpg.

Of course I could download the source, apply the patch install it
myself, I just wounder what did wrong. The sources.list files include
the non free branch.

Thanks
