Bug#860515: Many translations missing in french KDE lang packages while we're close to release

2017-05-12 Thread Julien Aubin
Hi,

Tested the package and actually it fixes almost all labels. I won't raise
another issue for the few missing translations which are more related to
kde-l10n-fr. At least the experience now is satisfying.

 Hi Maximiliano,

Thanks to Pino we've found the root of issue, which is that
 translations in file /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/kwidgetaddons5_qt.qm
are wrong, which causes the OK/Cancel/Apply buttons to stay in English in
all KDE Qt5 apps, and other buttons and confirm dialogs like the one which
allows users to customize keyboard shortcuts.

The fix consists in backporting this file from kwidgetsaddons 5.29.0
(only for French translations), which fixes the issue.

Gentoo has this version of the lib, and I could test with Gentoo's
 /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/kwidgetaddons5_qt.qm file which makes
 the issue disappear.

Could you please backport this file and re-release the package ?

If you need help to test the packages I can do this as long as it does
 not break all libkf5*.

 Many thanks,

 Julien.

They are not part of kde-l10n/fr 16.04.x, which means they were not
translated, and thus there's nowhere we can take them from.
They are not even translated in 16.08.x (which is the version of the
majority of non-PIM stuff from KDE Applications), so what you ask is
 simply not possible.

Okay too bad :'( but well if these are the only chunks of translations
which are missing this is a smaller issue, even though they exist in
kde-l10n-pl.

But backporting French translations from libkf5widgetsaddons-data 5.29
seems essential to me as without it every single KDE Qt5 app is crippled
with English text when using a French KDE, i.e. Konsole, Calligra suite,
Krita, Kdenlive, Dolphin, Kontact, ... Don't hesitate to ask me to test as
long as updating this package w/ libkf5widgetsaddons on my system does not
break other dependencies.

They are not even translated in 16.08.x (which is the version of the
majority of non-PIM stuff from KDE Applications), so what you ask is
simply not possible.

Right click on K menu, then settings, check that translations are correct.
Now in Konsole, click "configuration", then "configurer les raccourcis
clavier", then check that translations are incorrect.
In system settings, open any of the settings (for example display but it
applies anywhere) and check that translations are incorrect in the bottom
pane with OK/Apply/...
In Dolphin open the settings window, the same, "OK/Apply/Cancel" buttons
are incorrectly translated.
In Kmail, the same.

I also think so. I can test if if you provide me the packages (hoping it
does not break my whole system).

ksudoku is a kdelibs4/qt4 application, while granatier is a kf5/qt5
application:

$ ldd /usr/games/ksudoku | grep QtCore
libQtCore.so.4 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQtCore.so.4
(0x7f86ee76b000)
$ ldd /usr/games/granatier | grep Qt5Core
libQt5Core.so.5 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Core.so.5
(0x7f3200172000)

The rest of the examples follow the same pattern.

This is still not a reason to make this bug "grave" from the beginning,
with only generic and unhelpful instructions on *where* to find the
issue.

For the rest of the details, see my other email.

> For apps with full untranslated sections, adding the files I below would

Not really, no. This list has no utility, other than "some things where
not translated to French in software currently packaged in Debian".

Which are? As I said, please be *specific*: provide step-to-step
instructions of what should be tried to reproduce the issue. Generic
statements or locations do not help.

They are not Qt5 applications.

These strings are all fuzzy (so unused) in the translations of the
kwidgetsaddons framework (src:kwidgetsaddons, see the binary
libkf5widgetsaddons-data proving them). It looks like the French
translations in that framework were greatly improved in version 5.29
(Debian currently has 5.28), and that strings were not changed between
these two versions, so cherry-picking kwidgetsaddons/fr/5.29 could be
an option.

> have untranslated buttons?

Actually not all KDE games are affected either. For example KSudoku is not,
while Granatier is for example. However a proportion of 80% of 16.04
software suite affected apps seems to be a fair one. In order to reproduce
issue :

- DO : Install kde-full
- DO : Install kde-l10n-fr and use French as the language for a new profile
- DO : Install kde-l10n-pl and use Polish as the language for a new profile
- DO : on both sides launch apps listed above, like Dolphin, Kontact,
Konsole, System settings, ...
- EXPECT : on both sides OK/Cancel/Apply/Default/Help buttons should be
translated in the bottom buttons of windows, and the configure shortcuts
window should be translated, incl. bottom buttons
- ACTUAL : it is not the case w/ French in most of the cases (while it is
the case in Polish - example of cases which do not work in French :
Konsole, example of case which works : KSudoku)

Listing all the windows would be too long as having English bottom buttons
in French turns out to be the common case, and correctly translated buttons
the exception, which explains why I say "many" and cannot list all the
affected apps. This is why to me this bug is a showstopper for release, as
there are many French Debian users around (incl. Africa and Quebec) and
such an issue makes UX issue look... amateurish.

For apps with full untranslated sections, adding the files I below would
solve the issue. Affected files :

2017-04-27 Thread Julien Aubin
For the apps, basically you can pick any KDE Qt5 app except :
- Plasma configuration elements
- Kopete
- Okular

Affected apps notably include :
- System settings
- Dolphin
- Kontact
- KDE Games
... actually 80% of all the apps have their "OK/Apply/Cancel" buttons
untranslated in French + configure keyboard shortcuts window untranslated.

That's correct, the antispam & antivirus wizards are translated in

So kde-l10n-fr contains almost all the files that kde-l10n-pl provides.

Also, your note about translations from kcmkeys.mo makes no sense,
as that file is only used for that specific module in system settings.

Furthermore, do you have qttranslations5-l10n installed, in addition
to kde-l10n-fr?

Note that in some apps and in Plasma configuration windows OK/Apply/Cancel
buttons are correctly translated for example. I suspect that one of these
files causes most of the windows to have untranslated buttons, and the
missing files for kaddressbook and kmail explain why for example the
antivirus/antispam wizard is not translated in Kmail.

2017-04-27 Thread Julien Aubin
Yup, I do have. But the missing files might be enough to explain the many
missing translations appearing in the UI.

Bug#860515: Many translations missing in french KDE lang packages while we're close to release

2017-04-27 Thread Julien Aubin
NB : to be more precise in kde-l10n-fr many files are missing under
/usr/share/locale/LC_MESSAGES/fr compared to the Polish flavour of the
package.

So either it is a miss in the package build process, either these files
have been added since then.

 Hi

Btw after checking not all Qt5 apps are affected (Kopete and Plasma
widget settings are not) but most are. It looks specific to French
translations as Polish ones are not affected.

Moreover Kmail is especially poorly translated w/ many untranslated
menus and antispam / antivirus wizards fully untranslated

2017-04-26 Thread Julien Aubin
Hi,

Do you have any update towards this issue ? It would be a shame towards UX
that Debian Stretch is released which such an issue that clearly damages
its image and all the hard work you've done on other sides (btw Debian is
an awesome OS)

Thanks and please tell me if there's something I can do to provide you some
more info.

 Hey,

just a wild guess: Are the affected applications one that are Qt4 ones.
 As we
have already a bunch of Qt4 ones in the repos this can be the problem,
 why the
 translations are not loaded correctly?

Bug#860515: Many translations missing in french KDE lang packages while we're close to release

2017-04-24 Thread Julien Aubin
Another example of unaffected app : Okular.

But for ex Dolphin is.

Looks like to me some translation files do not reference correctly the
translations in the core files as the affected translations are located in
files like kcmkeys.mo for the configure keyboard shortcut window common to
many apps. In Okular its translation is correct but not in Dolphin.

2017-04-23 Thread Julien Aubin
Hi,

Nope, Qt5 ones. Qt4 ones work correctly.

Hey,

just a wild guess: Are the affected applications one that are Qt4 ones. As we
have already a bunch of Qt4 ones in the repos this can be the problem, why the
translations are not loaded correctly?

Basically plasmoid settings panels are not affected.

Please let me know if I can do anything to help you investigating (or if
you have some custom-built kde-l10n package to test).

 Hi,

Just checked with a new virgin session to ensure it was not wrong
settings and my side and sadly it is not. The French translations in KDE
have something wrong, definitely (as Polish translations for example are
complete except for the few fields in Kmail editor settings) while the
French ones are far from complete.

Bug#860515: Many translations missing in french KDE lang packages while we're close to release

2017-04-23 Thread Julien Aubin
Hi,

Some apps which rely on kde-l10n-fr are not affected as well, as when you
right-click on K menu, then app launcher settings. So there must be
something wrong in the translation files of the other apps. (Reminder : for
Kmail and Systemsettings, polish language does not face such an issue, so
it is directly related to French translations.)

Do you have any update on your side for this issue ?

Thanks

After checking again on polish translations everything is there :
ok/cancel properly translated, kmail antivirus/antispam wizard, ... The
only missing translations is in Kmail settings / editor configuration.

So the issue has definitely nothing to see with code but with faultly
 french lang package.

Bug#860515: Many translations missing in french KDE lang packages while we're close to release

2017-04-22 Thread Julien Aubin
Hi,

Sorry for the spam but after hacking again I found out that many of the
conflicting translations are located in
/usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/kcmkeys.mo
(at least for the customize shortcut keys window). Kopete references them
well while it is not the case for apps which use the standard kde-l10n-fr
package.

Looks like there's something faultly in the way the standard kde-l10n-fr
package is built as packages that do not use it directly are not affected.

 Hi

Okay check in Kmail settings / editor configuration. Kmail antivirus /
 antispam wizard left untranslated.
In system settings the confirm dialog does contain untranslated buttons
 but situation has improved.
Window configure shortcuts in Dolphin / Konsole is partly left
 untranslated (click manage schemes).
Kate menu file > save as with encoding

On Polish locales ok / apply / cancel is translated. Now in French
translation is correct when you right click on the clock and reach clock
settings. Basically in French 95% of the bottom dialog buttons are
untranslated (ex : konsole settings) while polish is not affected.
 Kopete is also fully translated.

Kdevelop browse menu : jump to next / previous

Note : if the issue was just ok / apply / cancel I would not have set
 such high severity.

 My locale : fr_FR.UTF-8

"Many" is unspecific, we can't check for "many" missing translations,
if you are refering to the Ok/Apply/Cancel buttons I would guess it's the
same issue described in the previous mail.

Oddly enough I could test on a Polish computer and here (polish)

Can you point to a specific text? Are you claiming that the
Ok/Apply/Cancel buttons are translated using a polish locales?

I know severity is overrated (and I opened it previously which is bad

Please don't abuse the bug tracking system. And, please provide
information in a way that the issue is easily reproducible and easy to
check for someone that doesn't have your background (doesn't speak french,
or polish, doesn't know what to look for in the window, etc).

Hi,

After digging some more Calligra is not affected as well.

Basically I just found out that unaffected apps (Kopete, Calligra) feature
their own l10n package and do not rely on the global kde-l10n-fr package.
So it looks like the latter one is really the issue.

Could you give me an update about it ASAP so that I could test more please ?

Thanks a lot

Bug#860515: Many translations missing in french KDE lang packages while we're close to release

2017-04-21 Thread Julien Aubin
Hi,

Just checked with a new virgin session to ensure it was not wrong settings
and my side and sadly it is not. The French translations in KDE have
something wrong, definitely (as Polish translations for example are
complete except for the few fields in Kmail editor settings) while the
French ones are far from complete.

Bug#860515: Many translations missing in french KDE lang packages while we're close to release

2017-04-20 Thread Julien Aubin
After checking again on polish translations everything is there : ok/cancel
properly translated, kmail antivirus/antispam wizard, ... The only missing
translations is in Kmail settings / editor configuration.

So the issue has definitely nothing to see with code but with faultly
french lang package.

Bug#860515: Many translations missing in french KDE lang packages while we're close to release

2017-04-20 Thread Julien Aubin
Hi

Okay check in Kmail settings / editor configuration. Kmail antivirus /
antispam wizard left untranslated.
In system settings the confirm dialog does contain untranslated buttons but
situation has improved.
Window configure shortcuts in Dolphin / Konsole is partly left untranslated
(click manage schemes).

Note : if the issue was just ok / apply / cancel I would not have set such
high severity.

My locale : fr_FR.UTF-8

"Many" is unspecific, we can't check for "many" missing translations, if
you are refering to the Ok/Apply/Cancel buttons I would guess it's the same
issue described in the previous mail.

Please don't abuse the bug tracking system. And, please provide information
in a way that the issue is easily reproducible and easy to check for
someone that doesn't have your background (doesn't speak french, or polish,
doesn't know what to look for in the window, etc).

There are also many missing translations in Kmail, System settings and so
on.

Oddly enough I could test on a Polish computer and here (polish)
translations are correct notably in systemsettings.

I know severity is overrated (and I opened it previously which is bad but
as nothing happened...) but such a bug has to be fixed before release. As
well Gentoo has never been affected with such issue.

Please don't create duplicated bugs with unjustified severities, this only
reduces the value of the bugs being reported (and increases the time we
need to expend dealing with them instead of fixing them)

There are still many missing translations in French KDE translation

It seems to me that the missing translations are from qt5's QDialog stock
buttons. So this might need to be addressed in the qt packages.

This is, at least for the dolphin settings dialog (which creates a
QDialogButtonBox with:
QDialogButtonBox* box = new QDialogButtonBox(QDialogButtonBox::Ok
 | QDialogButtonBox::Apply | QDialogButtonBox::Cancel |
QDialogButtonBox::RestoreDefaults);

And it doesn't override the buttons texts.

Package: kde-l10n-fr
Version: 4:16.04.3-1
Severity: grave

Hi,

I know that the severity is exagerated but this is because we're very close
to
release and the issue is still not fixed.

There are still many missing translations in French KDE translation package,
such as many "Apply" buttons left untranslated, some "do you want to
continue"
questions untranslated and so on. The issue is due to some translations in
Debian being too old, as the same package, kde-l10n-fr 16.04 in Gentoo is
not
affected.

So could you please upload newer translations for KDE before release ? It's
a
matter of how the UX looks in front of the user.

Thanks
