Bug#274705: mv: --reply doesn't work

2005-08-20 Thread Anthony Towns
tag 274705 + patch
thanks

So the relevant code seems to be in src/copy.c, where it checks if
--reply=no was set _and_ the file isn't overwritable; or if -i was
set, or if no option was given and the file isn't overwritable. So
--reply=no has an effect when you do:

touch a b
chmod 000 b
mv --reply=no a b # can't overwrite, so do nothing

This seems quite deliberate, but afaics it's a bug. I think the attached
patch fixes the problem.

Cheers,
aj

Thanks for the patch.
There's been a lot of talk about mv's --reply option, recently.
I'm planning to deprecate that option.

Being now enabled versioning in BTS, yes.

Do you mind if I add the tag security on it ?

Bug#324018: kdm does not have the binary in the package anymore

The package has no Binary, no /usr/share/doc/kdm or other necesarry
stuff. I wonder why nobody saws this before.

Please check your facts before submitting bugs at severity grave.
   Thanks. (See attached transcript.)

Well, if the packagee do not include any binary and no doc files then
this IS a grave bug.

However,

Your kdm package is obviously in state 'deinstall ok config-files'.
   I'm closing this bug.

kdm was in state installed on my system. This strange state that no real
files are in the package was the result of an upgrade several days ago.

Now when I try to reinstall kdm by apt there are many unresolved
dependencies. And a try to do this with dselect will deinstall kdm and
give no way to install it.

 % md5sum kdm_4%3a3.3.2-1_i386.deb

Thats the correct md5sum

soundtracker fails to build because its build-dependency on
libjack0.80.0-dev cannot be satisfied:

  - Considering libjack0.80.0-dev
- Trying libjack0.80.0-dev
- Cannot install libjack0.80.0-dev; apt errors follow:
 Reading package lists...
 Building dependency tree...
 E: Couldn't find package libjack0.80.0-dev
W: Unable to locate package libjack0.80.0-dev
 E: Could not satisfy build-dependency.

Making it build-depend on libjack0.100.0-dev instead fixes this
problem.

Hi.

Should be easily fixed by adding 'libtoolize' in the Build-depends.

Bug#324108: libffi2 is no longer available in unstable

2005-08-20 Thread Joshua Kwan
Package: libsablevm1
Version: 1.11.3-1
Severity: serious

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/# apt-get install libsablevm1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libsablevm1: Depends: libffi2 (= 1:3.3.4-1) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

libffi2 is no longer available in unstable, so libsablevm1 needs to be
rebuilt against libffi4 (or similar..) Until then, libsablevm1 is thus
uninstallable as well.

Thanks. (See attached transcript.)

Well, if the packagee do not include any binary and no doc files then
 this IS a grave bug.
Sure, but the fact is that the package include the binary and the doc files,
you just need to install it (not possible in Sid just now because of other
issues).

kdm was in state installed on my system. This strange state that no real
files are in the package was the result of an upgrade several days ago.
Can you tell me how can you have kdm installed in your system without having
kdelibs, kdelibs-bin or qt installed?

Versions of packages kdm depends on:
 ...
pn kdebase-bin none (no description available)
pn kdelibs4 none (no description available)
 ...
pn libqt3c102-mt none (no description available)

Dear Paul

Upstream has provided a patch[1] for this issue that I tested and found
that it works very well[2], which is now in debian nsis 2.08-3, which
I'll be uploading to debian mentors once I can find a fix for the
BgImage segfault.

Tested the examples again and those worked great.

Thanks,

I don't know. This was the result of a normal apt-get update; apt-get
 dist-upgrade call.
Adeodato asked some days ago to not dist-upgrade your KDE until he tells
otherwise. You can recover a working KDE by following some advices in
messages sent to the debian-kde mailing list in the last days.

Bug#324099: xfce4-sensors-plugin: ftbfs [sparc] libtoolize: command not found

2005-08-20 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Cyril Brulebois [EMAIL PROTECTED] (20/08/2005):
Should be easily fixed by adding 'libtoolize' in the Build-depends.
Hi back.

I tried this but this was not sufficient. I'd like to add that the
problem seems to be located in the CDBS call to:
  /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/autotools-files.mk

at the line 55:
54: if test $(DEB_AUTO_UPDATE_LIBTOOL) = pre ; then \
55: cd $(DEB_SRCDIR) libtoolize -c -f ; \
56: fi

I haven't tried to use pbuilder for a long time (since it was broken),
so I may miss some compiling options.

Good luck.

Bug#324018: kdm does not have the binary in the package anymore

2005-08-20 Thread Isaac Clerencia
On Saturday, 20 August 2005 14:16, Klaus Ethgen wrote:

This is the best _sincere_ advice I can give to you: stop using
unstable.

Well, I have no problemes by myself using unstable but if there is
something not working this is a bug and I will report them if it is not
still reported and not fixed with some uploads.

If no one is reporting bugs in unstable then buggy software goes to
stable and there will be no sense for unstable anymore.

Unfortunality there is a tag testing but no tag sid or unstable when
 reporting bugs.
Everything you have said makes sense when you track Debian development and are
aware of the current status of unstable.

Just now unstable is enjoying the C++ transition. During the transition, as
explained by Adeodato in a message some weeks ago, KDE is *expected* to be
un-dist-upgradable for some weeks. In that message Adeodato explicitly told
to not dist-upgrade KDE.

The facts are:
a) you run apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade (against the previous
advice). Of course, you didn't checked the output of apt-get, so you didn't
realized it was uninstalling lots of packages
b) as a consecuence of a), you broke your KDE installation, found that the
package kdm didn't have a binary (damn!, it had been deinstalled in a)) and
reported it as a bug without checking if the package was installed
c) you keep arguing and blaming others of your faults

So the point is: NO. Reporting problems already known, announced and expected
by the developers doesn't help at all.

Best regards

After a kernel upgrade last night my system fails to boot.
It was caused by a wrongly updated menu.lst which pointed to
a wrong kernel location:

It pointed to:
/vmlinuz-2.6.8-2-686 root=/dev/hda5 ro vga=791

and that should be:

/vmlinuz-2.6.8-2-686 root=/dev/sda5 ro vga=791

FYI this is a sata machine

Bug#324156: ivi: Need to upgrade to 1.0.x series

2005-08-20 Thread Wesley J. Landaker
Package: ivi
Version: 0.4.pre.20031121-2
Severity: serious

I've been working to get IVI 1.0.x into Debian. This is a bit tricky,
since it is now implemented as an Eclipse plugin, and Eclipse itself is
slowly getting a working version into Debian.

The 0.4.x series of IVI is really outdated, and IMO (as the maintainer),
probably shouldn't go into etch. I'm marking this bug as RC to keep it out.

The ultimate goal is to get IVI into Debian main; however, I will get
the package into contrib if I get it working with Eclipse before Eclipse
is in main.

You have just been bitten by serious bug #323747. You have upgraded
kdelibs-data to 4:3.4.2-1. Downgrade it to the precious version, restart

Bug#320818: bigloo: FTBFS: jigloo.java:0: error: Can't find default package 'java.lang'.

2005-08-20 Thread Yann Dirson
Hi Kurt,

What architecture are you using ? I see this error in the buildd
logs, but for arm and sparc only. That makes me wonder about an
arch-specific packagin bug of gcj on those archs.

On request from waldi, I've compiled a -386 kernel (using gcc-4.0) with
one change in ./debian/arch/i386/config.386:
- CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE=y
+ # CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE is not set

The problem was solved when installing from a mini.iso built using this
kernel.

Bug#322239: mozilla-firefox: running ldconfig seems to fix this

2005-08-20 Thread Wim De Smet
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.4-2sarge2
Followup-For: Bug #322239

I don't think this bug is solved. I had the same problem just now after
an upgrade to the latest version. After reading this bug report I ran
ldconfig and tried the things I tried earlier again. Now firefox doesn't
seem to segfault. (it hasn't yet at least)

So probably something in the install scripts should call ldconfig, and
is not doing that.

greets,
Wim

no, it's not the same way.
previously, it couldn't find cln-config, because libcln-dev was missing.
now it does, but it can't compile a test program.

could you please send me the config.log from your machine?

thanks

Hi,

I have uploaded an NMU to DELAYED/3-day which fixed #218624 and #318516.
If you plan to fix those bugs yourself, just upload during the next
three days.

This is NMU changelog entry:

 krb4 (1.2.2-11.3) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * Fix FTBFS on Hurd, added 037_hurd_ftbfs and added --disable-afs-support
to configure options for GNU/Hurd. (Closes: #218624)
   * Fix FTBFS on Linux/gcc-4.0, added 038_gcc4_ftbfs. (Closes: #318516)

The NMU interdiff is attached.

cheers,

Michael

Its now named libgmp3c2 so its just a rebuild but it would be great if
you could upload the latest version (#316688, #316288)

Bug#323358: libodbcinstq1: needs rebuilt for the C++ transition, but should not be uploaded yet

2005-08-20 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

[Steve Langasek]
however, there are currently no packages in Debian which use
 libodbcinstq1 except for unixodbc-bin,

At the moment unixodbc-dev is uninstallable in unstable, and this make
it impossible to compile mapserver in unstable. mapserver
build-depend on unixodbc-dev, and it is uninstallable because it
depends on libodbcinstq1, which in turn depend on libqt3c102-mt. And
libqt3c102-mt do not exist in unstable.

I didn't quite understand how a new upload of unixodbc would affect
the PHP and KDE transition, but thought it best to document that there
are other packages using libodbcinstq1 than unixodbc-bin.

The gdal problem affects mapserver, thuban and qgis, and probably
other packages, all of which need to move to the new C++ ABI.

Friendly,

Bug#324150: kernel 2.6.8-2-686: grub menu.lst points to a wrong kerel /vmlinuz location

 It pointed to:
 /vmlinuz-2.6.8-2-686 root=/dev/hda5 ro vga=791

 and that should be:

 /vmlinuz-2.6.8-2-686 root=/dev/sda5 ro vga=791

FYI this is a sata machine

Which presumably means that you were upgrading from a kernel in which
SATA showed up as IDE, to one in which SATA shows up as SCSI. I don't
think grub can be expected to fix this for you automatically.

The most that grub does is populate the entry automatically with the
contents of the kopt variable in menu.lst:

## default kernel options
## default kernel options for automagic boot options
## If you want special options for specifiv kernels use kopt_x_y_z
## where x.y.z is kernel version. Minor versions can be omitted.
## e.g. kopt=root=/dev/hda1 ro
# kopt=root=/dev/hda5 ro vga=791

If you want new kernel entries to automatically be given /dev/sda5 for
their root fs, you should edit that last line.

Nope Steve, i came from a 2.6 kernel with sata support. There was no
need to make any changes in my /etc/fstab aswell. Grub was setup
correctly and worked fine until the upgrade.

I've saw this problem before but in that case i came from a 2.4 kernel
and sata showed up as IDE, so that was explainable.

For me this is not such a big problem since i know what to do but
some kind of a newbie will have some big trouble with this.

The most that grub does is populate the entry automatically with the
contents of the kopt variable in menu.lst:

 ## default kernel options
 ## default kernel options for automagic boot options

Hmm kind of strange, my menu.lst contains:

#kopt=root=/dev/sda5 ro vga=791

The grave severity is maybe slightly overdone, excuse for that one.

Michel van der Klei

Bug#324017: Cron daemon dies when a cronjob is about to start

The cron daemon runs as normal until a cronjob starts up. Actually, I
don't even know if the cronjob actually starts. What I DO know is that
at the start time of any cronjob, the cron daemon process mysteriously
dies. No messages in any logs. Before a cronjob starts, the cron daemon
process is running. After the (supposed) start of a cronjob, the cron
 daemon process is gone.

I'm sorry but I can't reproduce this and you're the only one seeing this.
I'm pretty sure that if 3.0pl1-88 introduce a bug of this kind I would
be flooded with similar bug reports already since it is a base package.

Could you please send a trace of the cron daemon _before_ a cronjob
starts so we can actually determine why it's dying? You can do this
with 'strace' (use the -p option to tell it which pid to trace and the -f
option to follow forks)

Regards

Javier

Bug#324017: Cron daemon dies when a cronjob is about to start

I'm sorry but I can't reproduce this and you're the only one seeing this.
I'm pretty sure that if 3.0pl1-88 introduce a bug of this kind I would
be flooded with similar bug reports already since it is a base package.

Could you please send a trace of the cron daemon _before_ a cronjob
starts so we can actually determine why it's dying? You can do this
with 'strace' (use the -p option to tell it which pid to trace and the -f
option to follow forks)

I'm having this problem also, but haven't tried 3.0pl1-87. I'm also having
problems with my clock running too fast, so I'm frequently running ntpdate
until I can figure out what's going on when I get back to work on Monday. Not
sure if that would have anything to do with it...

I've rebuilt the cron daemon with -g to try and get something good out of the
core, but now it's not crashing. :/

A strace I captured earlier looks like this:

[snip]
1523 open(/etc/cron.d, O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_LARGEFILE|O_DIRECTORY) = 4
1523 fstat64(4, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0

It certainly seems more than coincidental to me that your strace shows the
same seg fault that my strace shows... immediately after opening
crontabs/root.

Oh, and BTW, the only change in -88 that might affect cron's behaviour
is either SElinux support or the enabling of pam_limits.so. You might
want to review /etc/security/limits.conf and see that it has sane
values there just in case.

Below is the output of strace when a cronjob should've started (I should
add that the job that was supposed to run was in root's crontab):

Not very useful. Although it does look like a look like a problem when
it tries to go through root's crontab. Could you try to attach
the process with gdb and provide a stack trace after it segfaults?
(using 'bt'). Do this:

# gdb cron PID
[ ... ]
(gdb) cont
[ . wait for the segfault . ]
(gdb) bt

You could also try editing root's crontab and try editing all the entries
and see if you can still reproduce the SIGSEGV.

I don't have SElinux enabled and there's only comments in that file. I know
this may not help much, but here's some bits from the core of the stripped
binary.

Loaded symbols for /lib/ld-linux.so.2
#0 0x400a4e69 in free ()

(gdb) bt
#0 0x400a4e69 in free () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6

#4 0xbfefad18 in ?? ()
[ on and on ]
#21 0x401739d4 in daylight () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6
[ and on some more ]

In -88, u-scontext is set to NULL if get_security_context() fails (i think) and
in free_user() there's a freecon() call on u-scontext but no NULL check. Maybe
that's where the problem is?

Your assessment looks quite correct. Libselinux does this:

void freecon(security_context_t con)
{
free(con);
}

So it might be the source of the error. This code was introduced by
#264320. I'm going to upload a new version right away, please let
me now if this fixes the bug.

Thanks for your help assessing this issue.

lm-sensors's configuration script pwmconfig, which is used, generally as
root, to probe the fan controls and generate a new configuration file,
uses files under /tmp in an unsafe way which makes it possible to
conduct symlink attacks. The temporary filename used to create a
temporary configuration file is hardcoded to '/tmp/fancontrol'.

Justification: renders package unusable

The cron daemon runs as normal until a cronjob starts up. Actually, I
don't even know if the cronjob actually starts. What I DO know is that
at the start time of any cronjob, the cron daemon process mysteriously
dies. No messages in any logs. Before a cronjob starts, the cron daemon
process is running. After the (supposed) start of a cronjob, the cron
daemon process is gone.

Downgrading to version 3.0pl1-87 resolves the problem.

Hmm.. this might look like is needed too but I would like Russel to

I originally pulled the other u-scontext = NULL;, but wasn't sure if the

It's working right now without, been runnin for 10 minutes.

There's definitely something which is system-specific here but I'm no

u-scontext is undefined, that's why free() segfaults.
How about this patch? It should also fix other segfaults which were fixed
on a Fedora patch.

Yes, I noticed that already. In any case, I've uploaded -91 just now
fixing that and some other segfaults that the people at Fedora have
fixed (patch for those is in the mail). Rick will be able to confirm
that when he updates tomorrow if he is using the main site, if he
is using a mirror it might take some more.

Aggg.. you are right, I don't think clearly this late, the problem is that
u-scontext is undefined, that's why free() segfaults.
How about this patch? It should also fix other segfaults which were fixed

Unfortunately, Javier is correct. I have received no emails from him. For some
reason, Verizon, in its infinite wisdom, is blocking email from that domain.

Anyway, I will let you know what happens once I can update tomorrow.

Bug#324220: repeatedly segfaults when xmms connects to immsd

2005-08-20 Thread Brad Sawatzky
Package: imms
Version: 2.0.3-2
Severity: grave
Tags: patch,sid
Justification: renders package unusable

immsd will repeatedly segfault as soon as XMMS connects to its socket. The
underlying problem is a bug (feature?) with initstate_r() from
libc6(2.3.5). See also a
href=http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=323811;Bug
323811/a.

While this is definitely a libc6 bug, there is an easy workaround that
allows imms to work until libc is fixed. See attached patch (which is
technically for 2.1.1 but should apply to any 2.x source).
