Bug#235759: German Quotes -- resolution in sight?
Hello, there has not been any activity on this bug (and on my related bug #228486) since march. I personally would really prefer to release Sarge with correct german quotes. Is there any (behind the scenes) progress on this issue? As far as I see, there are three possible options: a) Use english quotes b) Use ,, and " (pseudo german quotes) c) Use french quotes as in » and « d) Use U201E and U201C Currently, KDE uses a), Debian b) and d), Gnome c). I have not yet heard anyone favoring b) over c) except the concern of Adrian that Swiss people might be upset (because b) is reversed for them). Since, as Denis pointed out, no seperate Swiss translation effort has been started, I wonder how "bad" those reverse quotes would be for them. If anyone reading this has insight on this (either because of being Swiss or knowing a Swiss persons opinion on this), this would be greatly appreciated. I would suggest: c) if no UNICODE is available, else d) unless this is unacceptable to Swiss readers. If this is so, then I strongly opt for a) if no UNICODE is available, else d) which, despite being english quotes, are still much better than pseudo german quotes (the reasons for this have been extensivly discussed in both bug reports). FWIW, I exclusively use an English locale. Anyway, I've maybe I have been imprecise. I did not intend you to offer an opinion on the issue itself, but rather help the currently stuck positions get unstuck, i.e., moderate between GOTO and this list (or maybe you know someone who can moderate). > read through the whole bug log now. Bug#542066: libc6-dev: Goobox fails to build on hppa as scsi/scsi.h seems missing
Package: libc6-dev Version: 2.9-20 Severity: important Currently goobox fails to build on hppa, apparently because scsi/scsi.h seems to be missing on hppa: https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=goobox&ver=2.0.0-7&arch=hppa&stamp=1250164416&file=log As it builds everywhere else without a hitch this seems to be a glitch in libc6-dev. Bug#555168: Bug #555168: considering the pseudo-licences in locale files as "non-free"?

[1] This is especially true since several entries are from ISO (cf. de_AT, or especially POSIX) and here copyright is taken care of very carefully (at least usually). But maybe they simply did not think about modification - a mail to Keld Simonsen (he explicitly lists the ISO comittee, he might have the history and contact details of the other authors) should clarify that. -- Dr. Helge Kreutzmann deb...@helgefjell.de Dipl.-Phys. http://www.helgefjell.de/debian.php 64bit GNU powered gpg signed mail preferred Help keep free software "libre": http://www.ffii.de/ signature.asc Description: Digital signature

This is not possible: af_ZA has no clause while en_ZA has has the same problematic text as en_BW and en_ZW. The "no clause" text can be interpreted to be the same license as (e)glibc, but if possible an concrete license would be preferable, so either "LGPL v 2.1 or later" or maybe "same license than (e)glibc". > I have added that text way back in the 90s when the localisation > effort was just starting in Southern Africa. For those who contributed lots of locales, I collected them in one mail (unfortunately all e-mail addresses were invalid), currently I'm working through the remaining list. Hello, you are listed as contact person/author of the following locale: hsb_DE This locale comes with a statement % Distribution and use is free, also % for commercial purposes. Thus it does not allow modification; it is unclear, however, if this statement was meant as a license. As discussed in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=555168 this locale could strictly speaking not be part of Debian which would be a great loss. (Currently it is allowed pending investigation). To properly resolve this, I would like to ask you the following question: Would you be willing to relicense this locale to a proper license, e.g. (L)GPL v2 or higher or another free software license of your choice? If you have any questions regarding this issue, do not hesitate to contact me (via the reply-to address set). Thanks for helping to resolve this!
