I do not think it is a good idea to indicate the compression in the gbp.conf
file.
Also, the structure of your git repo does not fit the usual gbp layout because your upstream and debian branches are
already diverged with their first commits. Usually, I would expect the upstream branch to be contained in the debian
branch, i.e. for the first upload to consist of the upstream branch plus commits that modify debian/ files.

For later uploads, to be merged in the debian branch.

You do not have to initialize branches by pushing an empty commit, like you did with pristine-tar. gbp will care about
creating the branch for you if it does not exist.

By the conventions of the Ruby team,[1] the name `ruby-mdl` conveys the idea

It is already done for GPL-2. Please keep it as-is.

I am slightly uncomfortable with your commit 9df0a35e, because it is incorrect to assume that the only contributors to
an Angband source file are those named in it. This is why I prefer the method of referring to thanks.rst - I strongly
suspect that several of those thanked have contributed to those BSD-2-clause-licensed files over the years. Are you
content for me to revert this commit (and add a reference to thanks.rst)?

No, please keep the change. The point of adding the copyright to debian/copyright is to comply with the license
(primarily for binary packages). The BSD-2-clause specifically refers to the "above copyright notice", so you have to
include them. If any contributor wants to be included they can add themselves to the copyright holders easily.
For the GPL, there is no such specific requirement (don't quote me on that) but the Debian Policy requires representing
the copyright in the debian/copyright file, which is why we can relax the requirement by referring to the thanks doc.

The lib/fonts have at least one problem: They are not built from source.
If we do not need them in Debian, please remove them. Else, please figure out if the sources can be

When that is done please add the complete license in d/copyright and reference

If the BSD-2-clause files are copyied from 3rd parties, you can obviously link to them as license reference instead

Why is it not enough? Angband has 85 contributors listed on github alone, and many of the source files had dozens of
additional contributors before they first appeared on github 13 years ago. Angband was released under GPL-2 in the late
noughties (v3.1.0) and everyone contributing code since then has done so in the knowledge that Angband has a dual
licence. To require contributors for these three files to be documented in d/copyright, but not the contributors to any
other files, seems bizarre and disproportionate.

There are probably many other files that have explicit copyright holders
mentioned, not only those three files.
The same goes for any other such files. I have just listed them because they had changes in the Copyright comment and I
have looked at the diff between the current Debian version and the proposed version, which I have already mentioned twice.

If you do not want to list each of the copyright holders that are specifically mentioned in individual files then please
reference /usr/share/doc/angband/thanks.txt.gz in the Comment for Files: * but make sure that each individually
mentioned name is contained in that file.

snd-win.h is licensed under BSD-2-clause (which is GPL-2 compatible), however, the file misses the disclaimer which is

I'm afraid I don't really understand your question. The repo is where it is because Alexandre created it and invited me
to collaborate with him. I don't know what you mean by "a properly team-maintained package" if our collaboration is not

Your Vcs-Git points to https://salsa.debian.org/games-team/angband. That is in
the namespace games-team,
which belongs to the Games Team: https://wiki.debian.org/Games/Team.
The Team's Policy (https://wiki.debian.org/Games/Policy) has this: "Set the
Maintainer field to
'Debian Games Team ' and add yourself to
the Uploaders field."

In angband, you are listed as a Maintainer, not as an Uploader and the team
maintainer value does not appear.

Please do not add to the changelog until the font is uploaded.

The copyright file is missing the Apache 2 license because it is a derivative
work of OpenSans.
Please add OpenSans copyright info, use "OFL-1.1 and Apache-2.0" for the
license reference, and add:

License: Apache-2.0
On Debian systems, the complete text of the Apache License Version 2.0
 can be found in `/usr/share/common-licenses/Apache-2.0'.

Also, the font's Copyright data says: "Based on DejaVu font."
That font is based on Bitstream Vera, whose copyright and license info must
also be added.

Again:
You should investigate how to call fontforge to build the ttf files.
If you need OpenSans to build the ttf then please add it as a secondary tarball
(uscan component).
Or ask for a package containing the sfd files on the fonts-open-sans package,
which you then depend on.

2023-09-12 Thread Bastian Germann

You have an unnecessary dh_auto_clean in d/rules.

You can list files that need additional installation in debian/a2d.install
which are then installed by dh_install.

Bug#1051125: RFS: a2d/2.0.0-1 [ITP] -- APRS to DAPNET portal

2023-09-05 Thread Bastian Germann

I do not have a clue if this is a package that is suitable for Debian, so I
will not sponsor it.
Formally, I can say a few things.

First off, your package does not build (tried on arm64):
   dh_builddeb
dpkg-deb: error: conffile name 'etc/a2d/.creds/a2d_AnDinfo.conf' is not an
absolute pathname
dh_builddeb: error: dpkg-deb --root-owner-group --build debian/a2d .. returned
exit code 2
dh_builddeb: error: Aborting due to earlier error
make: *** [debian/rules:7: binary] Error 2
dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian/rules binary subprocess returned exit status 2

In d/changelog, you would mention the changes from one Debian revision to
another.
So for the first revision, just use the "Initial release. Closes: #1051242" and
drop
the subordinate lines.

The d/watch does not work. Maybe it used to work but GitHub has changed the
releases page.
Please fix that.

I do not get the source structure of that project. It does not really look like
a
typical python project. If it was you should make use of dh-python to build it.
The only thing you do in d/rules is copying around files, not really building
anything.

So long.

available (see also #1034528), so please build with WITH_KAWPOW=OFF and WITH_ADL=OFF.

I looked into this when I first started packaging xmrig. Unfortunately, for many of these third party libraries,
Debian's packaging of them won't work because the version included in xmrig is specially modified and contains lots of
xmrig-specific functions that aren't easy to work around. For example, many of argon2's functions directly have xmrig in
the name, and work a bit differently to those of the original project.

The missing thing is hugepages support:
https://github.com/xmrig/xmrig/commit/b1db0803cfdcb25fd51cef1df2dba46dc63fb0f7

src/crypto/randomx/dataset.cpp relies on some private argon2 implementation
details.
But as far as I can see you can just have some definitions to satisfy these
needs.

Either patch or build with WITH_ARGON2=OFF.

The source also directly includes headers that
exist in the original source but not a packaged version, and which are also modified specifically for xmrig. If I were
to get rid of all the third party libraries that don't work easily with Debian's packaged versions, there wouldn't be
much xmrig functionality left.

The only thing that is not easily replacable from the original list is llhttp. Just keep this one. I have done the
trivial replacements for CL, fmt, and rapidjson. hwloc is built with the system library anyway and adl is only used on
Windows.

When libethash is available in Debian, just add support for it.
And maybe, when #977716 is done, you can also replace llhttp.

idea of what is to exclude. Please use the Debian replacements for those libraries. adl and libethash are not yet

When you have that working, please untag moreinfo.

A -2 revision can never have that changelog entry.
This does not seem to be a targeted fix, so cannot go to unstable during freeze.
Maybe you want to target experimental?

unstable or would it then also be required to upload to experimental at first?

No, you can wait after bookworm release date and directly go unstable.

Should I already change "UNRELEASED" into "unstable" in debian/changelog or shall I leave this as it
is?

Yes, please target unstable.

It is too late for bookworm. So please target experimental with the new binary

If you want the other changes to get into bookworm, you should separate them
