Does that also help for the "-gtk3 makes it slow in xfce" bug (#836531)?
Then those indeed are the same one and should be merged.

Yes.

Any help?

Yes, see above. (And this is per se not "something for help" but a bug tracking

Thank you.
Downgrading libgtk-3 from to libgtk-3-0_3.20.9-1 fixes the bug.
Please feel free to merge.

That should work[*], but as a first step I'd try to see if we can make the
header identical across all architectures.

It looks like there are no external users of LT_POINTER_TO_INT, and liblangtag
uses it for checking if two pointers are equal... Not only this is
overengineered, but it's also broken on architectures where pointer is wider
than int. :-\

How about the attached (untested) patch?

[*] Famous last words!

Update LibO in jessie-backports to fix slow scrolling?

2016-09-16 Thread Sean M. Pappalardo
Hello.

Thank you very much for packaging LibreOffice for Debian!

I'm running on Jessie amd64 and have used LibO from backports since
Wheezy just fine.

Since the upgrade to 5.x, page-wise scrolling in any LibO document (most
noticeably in spreadsheets) momentarily causes Xorg to use 100% CPU for
1-2 seconds before the screen paints.

This problem does not occur in 4.3.3-2+deb8u5 from jessie/stable.

I tested with the 5.1.5.2 x64 DEBs from LibreOffice.org directly and the
problem occurs there too. But I also tried the v5.2.1.2 x64 DEBs from
the LibO site and that works correctly.

So what is the chance the version of LibO in Jessie-backports could be
upgraded soon?

Thank you again very much for your time and work!

Sincerely,
Sean M. Pappalardo

Package: libreoffice-gtk3
Version: 1:5.2.1-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

This might be related to https://bugs.debian.org/836531 but I'm not
sure. With 5.2.0 and 5.2.1, running on GNOME 3, Impress is unusably
slow if libreoffice-gtk3 is installed. The steps to reproduce on my
system are simply

* start Impress
* open a new document
* click on any "Click to add ..." message
* wait for a couple of minutes before anything happens (with one core
  pegged at 100%)

Every single interaction with the document takes a couple of minutes
to be taken into account, apart from changing slides: typing text,
moving elements around...

Uninstalling libreoffice-gtk3 fixes the problem. Clearing
LibreOffice's configuration doesn't.

Regards,

Stephen

Package: libreoffice
Version: 1:5.2.0-1
Severity: minor

Hi there,

currently, the libreoffice meta-package pulls in both
fonts-sil-gentium-basic and fonts-dejavu packages by hard
dependencies. I mean, sure libreoffice needs some fonts to work
properly, but (1) why does it need two font families installed and (2)
why does it have to be these two?

I guess with just fonts-liberation or fonts-croscore of fonts-texgyre
installed it is possible to work just as productively?

Cheers,

Fabian

For -gtk-gnomes sake:

commit 0f116135f4a5033ce4e9dfa19f10624701fa615c
Author: Matthias Clasen
Date: Fri May 6 10:12:14 2016 -0400

Avoid emitting ::style-set by name

GtkStyle is deprecated, but we still emit ::style-set quite
a bit, so lets at least not be slow while doing it.

in Gtk caused it, but it's fixed in LOs master
(https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=ef7abe81df10cb8a8c04afbb1fbe700f94e73f04)

Will backport.

Regards,

Rene

Package: libreoffice
Version: 1:4.4.5-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

open a document. edit something. save it. make a new document.
(copy-paste some html page, nobody really cares from where.)

now minimize libreoffice for while. You are no longer able to return to the
editor. It acts like vram is messed up or dodgy and fails to redraw itself.
maximize, minimize, all for nothing. Its dead Jim.

Note: I am using the autolauncher. It seems to help loading times.
It should also be prelinked and preloaded as both packages are setup and
running.

But try as you might to get the new document back open again, it is closed like
a clam.Relaunching the app doesnt work either.
App crashes on launch and fails to load.

Restarting may or may not fix this.

I cant touch the autoloader but clearly it has launched.Clicking on it has no
effect.
