i'm also seeing debian bug #527535 in a squeeze/sid install, with
openoffice.org-calc version 1:3.1.1-2 on i386.
If i can do anything to help debug or to test a fix, please let me know.

I just upgraded to libreoffice 1:3.4.3-1 in wheezy, and the startup
screen button mouseovers no longer stay lit after mousing off of them.

I can also confirm the background not redrawing of the "base"
libreoffice window. You don't even need to open a document. I just
ran "libreoffice", didn't select a document, and then resized the base
window.
