Well, I hope also.

Please see here [1].

Debian Science Team members are usually very helpful if somebody
is trying to solve technical questions.

Some packages can live many years without maintainer.
But ParaView is too large and complex to use this opportunity.
If RC-bugs will not be resolved on time - any package is being
removed from the testing, and later - does not go to release.

Best regards

Anton

Re: GL2PS latest version

2018-03-25 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Kyle,

uploaded with those two patches. API was extended by
one funciton, so the API changes are compatible and no
need to do a transition process.

Anton

Hi Mike,

thanks for the bugreport. I do not think, that adding the
fixed timestamp to all files produced by the gl2os that is
what the users want.

Hi all,

please pay attention that Qt4 can be removed soon.
So if upstream did not start to port the software to
Qt5 it would be good to do so.

Bug#888712: netgen: Please update to newest package version 6.2.x

2018-01-29 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Kurt,

thanks for the info. It would be much better if upstream
makes a release of netgen, so we can upload it into
the Debian archive. Pulling the rolling release is not
quite convenient.

It looks like sip4_4.19 broke the qtiplot (upload without rebuild of all reverse
dependencies?).

Anyway, I have tried to fix this particular part of compilation
process [1]. But it still fails to compile due to major changes in sip.
Help is welcome.

That is OK, but can we then have @lists.alioth.debian.org running
or it is planned to disable it also?

Hi Nico,

I have managed to build gmsh succesfully (in experimental). Also I have uploaded
into unstable, but we need to get an OK from FTP masters because I have changed
the libname to libgmsh3.

Cheers

Reducing the number of maintained packages

2017-10-24 Thread Anton Gladky
Dear all,

due to some major changes in my professional life, I do not have time to
maintain some packages. All of them are maintained under the umbrella of
Debian Science Team, so it is not an official orphanage of them. I will
just remove my name from the uploader's list and if somebody wants to
support them, feel free to pick them up.

All packages are in a good shape. If you have some questions regarding
the maintaining of those packages, feel free to ping me.

I will continue to maintain several scientific packages, but they are
not in my main focus any more.

Package list:
=
arpack++
clp
coin3
coinor-cbc
coinor-cgl
coinor-osi
coinor-symphony
coinutils
freemat
gerris
getdp
getfem++
gfsview
imview
libstxxl
med-fichier
mpich
oce
openfoam
ovito
palabos
paraview
pivy
pycollada
pygts
pysparse
pysph
python-escript
qtiplot
sdformat
sfepy
simage
soqt
spooles
viennacl
=

Re: gmsh update

2017-10-18 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Nico,

I have done some changes on the package. It is almost ready for the upload.
But there is a problem with the auto_test:

==
...
  ompi_mpi_init: ompi_rte_init failed
--> Returned "Unreachable" (-12) instead of "Success" (0)
--
*** An error occurred in MPI_Init
*** on a NULL communicator
*** MPI_ERRORS_ARE_FATAL (processes in this communicator will now abort,
...
==

There are some more errors. I think we had some similar problems with MPI,
running under the fakeroot. But I am not able to find a quick solution
for this issue now.

Best regards

Anton

Yes, I know, because I am maintaining both oce and gmsh.
Oce is in experimental and requires transition process, which
is not started because not all reverse dependencies can be
built against 0.18. Hopefully will be fixed soon.

Bug#873362: coinor-libcoinutils3v5: unannounced ABI change without SONAME change?

2017-08-28 Thread Anton Gladky
Thanks all for discussion, explanations and investigations!

@Rene, I propose to close this bug or to wait till upload of libreoffice.

Next time, when the new coinutils version comes, I will let you know
and coinmp should be tested against the new coinutils. Then it should
probably be uploaded into the sid restricting in BD the minimal coinutils
to guarantee the ABI compatibility like it done for all other dependent
packages [1]. What do you think?

Bug#873362: coinor-libcoinutils3v5: unannounced ABI change without SONAME change?

2017-08-27 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Mattia,

thanks for the tip! I have recompiled both libs with the same
current gcc-7.2. And it looks like there are no dropped symbols
(see file old-gcc7_new-gcc7.diff in attachment).

But if I compare new so-file with the one shipped with Stretch
(compiled with gcc6)
the diff contains some missing symbols (see file old-gcc6_new-gcc7.diff).

What is the best practice for such kind of libs? Provide symbol-files?

Thank you

PS I have generated the symbols with the command:
  readelf -Ws libCoinUtils.so | awk '{print $8}'

You mean to increase so-version even if upstream does not do it and
to start the normal transition process? I think it is possible.

I do not know, whether it is really needed. This line is in
the .install-package [1] for a long time and I did not remove
it last year, when overtook the maintenance on this package.

Bug#873362: coinor-libcoinutils3v5: unannounced ABI change without SONAME change?

2017-08-27 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Rene,

thanks for the bug report and sorry for inconvenience. Upstream did
not change the SO-version, so I decided not to do it explicitly and
request transition. Looks like the changes were minimal.

If the coinmp-recompilation really fixes your problem, I would ask for
binnmus of all rdepends.

Thanks

Anton

Re: O: bibus - bibliographic database

2017-08-08 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Jan,

thanks for your work on this package. It seems bibus is in a
good shape, at least there are no RC bugs for years! And also package
is team-maintained, so it has an advantage to be fixed by any
Debian science team member.

I think you do not need to request package removal. Just file a bug
that you want to be removed as an uploader of this package. And
the package will hopefully be supported by the team.

Best regards

Anton

Hi Nick,

thanks for bugreort. Unfortunately I have to close the bug
without any action from our side. It should be something
wrong in your system (often, manual installation with
"sudo make install" breaks the system by this way.

This is the output on my Jessie system:

ldd /usr/bin/ovito | grep -E "Ssh|Video|Base"
libBase.so => /usr/bin/../lib/ovito/libBase.so (0x7ffb1b93a000)
libQSsh.so => /usr/bin/../lib/ovito/libQSsh.so (0x7ffb1b6c4000)
libVideo.so => /usr/bin/../lib/ovito/libVideo.so (0x7ffb1b4b9000)

As you see the ovito binary is correctly linked. Have also a
look into the settings in ~/.bashrc, where LD_* variables can be
overridden.

Best regards

Bug#848859: FTBFS randomly (failing tests)

> No matter how much glitch-free is the autobuilder you use to build the

That is not always true. If you look in many tests from numerical
simulation packages, there is usually a "threshold" for test result
which should not be exceeded. And the test result varies in
the limits, which are set by upstream authors. This result
can be different even on the same machine, running the simulation
several time. And it is normal.

The "fix" for such cases is the increasing of the threshold or disabling
the test completely. Because you can do nothing with it due to the
nature of numerical simulations.

> Really, we need more people doing QA, and not stop doing it "because
> we are near the freeze".

If you are maintaining the package several years, fixing most of its
bugs, hoping to see it in release and trying to escape major changes
several months before the freeze.. Sure, it will actively be defended
from maintainers if some pseudo-reasons for its removal appear just
before the freeze. This fact has to be considered as well.

I'm not going to build every package 20 times to catch a "possible" bug,

Bug#848913: Please clear the problem

2016-12-23 Thread Anton Gladky

thanks

Hi,

the bugreport is not quite clear for me. libeigen3-doc is built
and the list of all files can be found here [1].

Please clarify the problem.

I do support Andreas' statement and ask to revert numpy upload if patches
for the dependent packages are not available. We are too close to the freeze
to fix many new bugs and Christmas time will unlikely motivate upstream people
to fix new "numpy API". Semi-transitions should be avoided already.

Bug#846919: yade: enable parallel builds

2016-12-04 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Emilio,

the only reason, why I disabled parallel builds for this package
is the frequent build failures due to insufficient RAM on build
servers.

This program requires around 2GB Ram/Thread because of
templates, Boost and meta-programming. I can try to reenable
parallel builds just to check, whether current configuration of
build-servers is suitable for that.

Best regards

Bug#844832: yade: FTBFS: build-dependency not installable: libvtk6-dev

2016-11-18 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Lucas,

thanks for the bugreport. But in this case there is nothing to do
with vtk6, but with its dependencies, which can not be satisfied,

Short research indicated the problem with the package pycparser.
It has in dependencies python-ply-lex-3.5 and python-ply-yacc-3.5 and
they are not available.

Bug#842305: gnuplot-doc: incomplete setup of this package

2016-11-10 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Boruch,

thanks for your time and extended bugreport! I do agree with the paragraphs
1 and 2 of your message and files will be decompressed with the next upload.
Normal users are able to copy examples to the local home folder and test
them.

Other points are out of scope of the basic packaging and unlikely be
implemented. Nevertheless feel free to report them in separate bugs
with the severity "wishlist". And yes, patches and co-contribution are
always welcome.

Thanks again,

Anton

tags 841885 +pending +patch
thanks

Hi Graham,

thanks for your fix. I have committed it and it will be fixed by the next
upload. Regarding your question of including those packages into
Depends section of gerris. As far as I know, it is possible to use
gerris without compiler and in a serial mode, so in this case those
packages are not really needed.

I may be wrong, CC-ing upstream author for a more qualified answer.

Thanks

Anton
