I don't think this is a boot floppy problem. Under Debian 1.2, the wd driver is in a module. You should be able to remove or reconfigure that wd module by booting your system with the rescue floppy, mounting your hard disk, and editing /etc/modules or /etc/conf.modules on the mounted hard disk.
