Linux over FreeBSD. This is for a production server in an educational
environment. The arguments used against Linux were that it was buggy

I just found what seems to be a cure to my download stall problem. I
right-clicked on my filerunner titlebar (maximize) by sheer accident
and I noted that the lights on the modem started blinking faster. So I
left it alone for a bit, and my downloads don't even begin to stall.

What do I change in order to have a 34 line display at 75 Hz? If I
change the vga= at lilo to the 34 line display I get 60 Hz, where I can
see some flicker.
Both my monitor and my vga card are able to cope with 1280 at 75
Hz in graphics mode. Dunno if this helps.

Just to let you know (I don't know who to address really) but in
order to make a Pioneer DR-A24X CD-ROM drive (ATAPI) work you have to
append this in lilo:
append=hdx=noprobe hdx=cdrom
Otherwise it'll halt your machine.
