Try looking in your XF86Config-4 file and move the type1 fontpath to
the end, and if you have a truetype fontpath, move it to the beginning.
If that solves you problem its because X uses the first font in the
fontpath that fits the description, and it usually doesn't handle
type1 fonts very well.
