I thought without eg. connman, a dropped connection on a wifi NIC configured in
/etc/network/interfaces would not automatically be re-established, and that
this config had to be removed (or commented-out) for something like
NetworkManager or wicd to manage the connection, in the case of a DE. Is that
wrong?

Oops, I actually meant apt-get upgrade, not update. It's normally
grabbing the lis

before the jserv parts are running after a restart.
On my P133 it takes a few minutes <5 on my new PIII it takes about 1-2
minutes.
I hope this is the problem try
ps axuww| grep apache
as you restart it will show you that /usr/sbin/apache is running and then
"slowly" the jserv stuff starts up.

You should check the SCSI select settings at boot time just to check they
are ok, especially the termination settings and which cables you have
plugged into it etc.

after some heavy network abuse our intranet admin has changed the
firewall setup and now apt-get does not work. Does anyone know what ports
apt-get it uses so I can ask him to enable them?
