I'm running latest sid with 2.6.30 kernel and pvcreating a new disk into
use, but that seems to take forever and doesn't create heavy IO on the
disk. Creating normal ext3 partitions with bad block scan succeeded and
created led blinking IO as I expected.

This seems to be a kernel thing: after kill -9'ing a bunch of hung pvcreate
processes one of them succeeded in a second on 2.6.30. On 2.6.26 all
pvcreate's

without clean in between works. Though a lot of file copying seems to
happen in every build, but that's not too much.
