Can you see if portmapper is started prior to any NFS services?
Portmapper needs to be running when nfs-kernel-server is started,
otherwise that kind of freeze is possible. I found that out while
upgrading nfs-kernel-server package once and didn't have portmapper
running...

Are you sure you compiled your kernel for the right architecture/
processor? My guess is that the lockup you described would occur if you
are attempting to boot a kernel compiled for i686 on a 386.

Personally I use procmail filtering on the IMAP server, but then again, I
have shell access to it. Maybe you can do server-side filtering yourself,
ask the admins.

Is someone running netbase 4 successfully (working
nfs server for example ?)
netbase 4.05, portmap 5 and nfs-kernel-server 0.2.1 and works just fine.

Sounds like a problem indeed. You have the same version as I do, so my
guess is that your installation or dpkg database is corrupt.
Reinstalling net-tools should help.
