I solved the problem: actually a lot of things became clearer after have read
http://wiki.debian.org/Suspend, which explain a bit what the system does
whenever one push the sleep button.
The first half of the problem is solved by adding a file called
/etc/pm/config.d/01config with the following
Might be a long shot, but I had similar problems on my laptop.
It turned out to be the radeonfb module in my case ... This laptop has a
radeon mobility 9000 which is supported by xorg's radeon driver which again
made it possible for me to use radeonfb to get a nice terminal resolution
(tty[1-6]).

Hello,
I've just installed Lenny on my thinkpad T61 (model 6460).I am posting here
because I've googled around and tried some things reported from people with
similar issues, but I am starting to be stuck in a deadlock where I feel to just
don't get the point of the situation.

what brand/model of mainboard? what speed of ram? after having a bout
with bad ram twice last week i would lean towards the ram. if its PC133
ram look at the speed it should say 6ns, i got 7ns which is 125Mhz but
they sold it as 133, and of course it crashed like mad. once i put the
ram at 100mhz(i

Hmmm, are you SURE?
Maybe you dont HAVE more that 64MB even though you THINK you do.

Which kernel are you running?
Remove the line from lilo.conf, rerun lilo, reboot and see what
cat /proc/meminfo says.
If you are running 2.2-Linux or bet
Hi everyone.
I just managed to get "Potato" but it seems that I have a
problem with my RAM.
I currently have 192M installed in my AMD/Athlon 700 Box.
Of course I added the correct line, ie: append="mem=192M"
in lilo.conf and ran /sbin/lilo.
Linux swap partition: >600 MB
Everything was fine, for
I think this is totally normal.
Thats why linux is fast. And if you need more memory for applications it
gets freed from cache or buffers. No need to worry.

I think that isn't normal (normally on PC a good system with XWin etc.
uses something like 64 Mb of RAM).
You must see which apps use too much memory (I suggest you to see kernel
modules such like NFS).
Which system are you using?

Don't worry.. Thats perfectly normal.. The caches speed up the system, and
it frees mem there
This is normal, and done by kernel to keep memory full all the time, so
access time to binaries is less (so your machine works faster). This can
only be a problem on systems with low RAM (I remember having 48M, and
having it all full.going into swap even when I was just running X
alone). If you
Hi, I'm a litlle worry about the memory (RAM) used by my machine.
I'm using slink ( recompiled kernel 2.0.36) and recently I realized that
I have my memory full very frecuently, even when running only a few
programs. Actually, the buffer and the cache use a lot of memory.
I have 256 Mb, and a typ
Hi All... Thanks for the replies...
I finally got the 2.2.1 kernel booted... It did solve the problem :)
Thanx ,

I thought 2.2 series was supposed to get this right.
Add an app
HI all:
I have a Pentium II 333 w/ 96 megs of ram. However, when I'm running Debian
2.1, or any other Linux distro, I only show 64 megs of ram... What do I do??
Current Kernel=2.2.1
Thanks,
