Thankyou kindly Cameron. Indeed XF86-SVGA was not intalled. So far so good. Two more problems have arisen since that I cannot seem to get a handle on. 1. I actually have a desktop diplayed now. Unfortunately unless I manually set the resolution to 640x480, by editing XF86config, only the top
