Sad new. It seems like Debian1.2 on the Dec 1996 InfoMagic CD ROM is kind of broken: the X stuffs just would not install properly !!! Not true !! See ftp.fortuna.org:/pub/linux/Debian for Debian1.2 and then X3.2 installation directly from InfoMagic CD#3 without (essential) problems.

How about a (cron) job, that executed every time the machine gets booted and that checks when the cron jobs were executed for the last time. If these for were not executed for say two days (weeks, months) then they get executed regardless the actual hour, day, week of month. I second
