Cortafuegos [locaza]
 · |
 · |
[Router]-[akela]-[Hub]-[otro]
 · |
 · |
 · [paranoia]

Nunca he hecho algo así, no te podré ayudar mucho...

¿Alguien me podría explicar cómo hacerlo?

/etc/skel, ¿no?

-

[...]

## Directorio donde 'raiz' para los mensajes entrantes
MAILDIR=$HOME/mail  # Asegúrate de que
exista.

## Otras definiciones
DEFAULT=$MAILDIR/inbox
LOGFILE=$HOME/procmail.log

[...]

-

-
${USER}
-

Saludos ...

Babel me da problemas.

2000-11-27 Thread dbote

\usepackage[spanish]{babel}

spanish. [1999/04/19 v3.4i Spanish support from the babel system]

%% \ProvidesLanguage{spanish}
%%[1999/04/19 v3.4i Spanish support from the babel system]

La cuestión ahora entonces queda así. ¿Es esa una buena solución o debo
hacer otra cosa?

Saludos.

Hola,

debian e outra para testes ( irei colocar diferentes distribuições/SO
acessá-los tanto do windows quanto do Linux.

/root noutra, etc).

Espero que tenha servido de alguma coisa,

- Forwarded message from Tomohiro KUBOTA [EMAIL PROTECTED] -

Please check 'language-env' package. It has configuration database
for German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai.

I think the most significant difference between your approach and
my 'language-env' approach is global setting (yours) or per-user
(mine). Though your approach is more straightforward and easy,
mine is more extensible. People speaking different languages
can share a machine.

However, I can imagine a future configuration system which a user
can choose global setting (for personal machine) or per-user setting
(for shared machine).

Please check 'language-env'. I think you will find how complex
configurations are needed for 'exotic' languages such as Japanese.

Though I don't know about configuration of _console_ (because
we cannot configure Linux console for Japanese at all), I think
the ideal console will be sensible to LC_CTYPE locale. If there
is a small software which loads proper font for LC_CTYPE, we can
invoke it from ~/.bashrc or so on. I can imagine the software
can automatically invoke UTF-8 mode when needed (of course the
software checks it from LC_CTYPE locale). If you are interested
in multibyte language, check 'kon2', 'jfbterm', and 'hztty' packages.

Input method is a problem, too. Some complex languages such as
Japanese and Chinese need a separate input method. (Keymap is
not sufficient. Can you imagine a keyboard with thousands of
keys? Even if there were, it would be difficult to use.)
Though X Window System has its standard for input method (XIM),
there are no standard for console. Thus, I can hardly imagine
united configuration (choosing) tool for input method. The
document included in 'language-env' describes about Japanese
input methods.

Though I am not familiar to keymaps, I think it should depends
on what hardware (i.e., keyboard) the system has. Then it must
be global setting. Fortunately, the current Debian installer
asks about keyboard. Can any softwares which need keymap be
configured to use that information?

Devo no entanto avisar-te

XKEYBOARD in X 3.3.6

2000-11-27 Thread Sean Norris,,,

Hello all,

I was just upgrading a few libraries for cups and xpp when I developed
some odd problems.

Now, my backspace key functions as delete and the number pad works as
numbers whether or not the Number Lock is on. I have a normal 104 key
IBM keyboard.

I was unable fix this with XF86Setup but when it started up it had a
warning that it was unable to read information from the keyboard. It
also said this usually happens when the XKEYBOARD extension is not
enabled or the x-server does not support it. The xkeyboard extension is
installed:

#xdpyinfo -ext XKEYBOARD | tail -2

XKEYBOARD version 1.0 opcode: 136, base event: 84, base error: 136
The XF86config file has the following in the keyboard section:

Section Keyboard
  ProtocolStandard
  XkbRulesxfree86
  XkbModelpc104
  XkbLayout us
EndSection

This is puzzling because I didn't change the configuration when this stopped
working properly.

Any help would be appreciated.

more apache/perl problems, premature end of script

i posted before w/ 400 forbidden problems. i fixed that, but i still
can't get a script to run.

i now get:

Premature end of script headers: /home/herb/public_html/init/login.pl

i'm pretty sure it's not my script since it works on another webserver
that my university runs (and i can't find their conf files to
compare).

so i'm left w/ a config error. i added this in access.conf:

   AddHandler cgi-script .cgi .pl

changed this in my access.conf (add ExecCGI):

   DirectoryMatch ^/home/.*/public_html
  Options ExecCGI Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch
  AllowOverride None
   /DirectoryMatch

what am i missing?

thanks in advance,

thanks for everyone's help so far. it works...a little bit more. =)

the problem i found is that there is already a Directory directive
for the public_html/ directories in access.conf. this seems to either
be read last (thus overrriding changes made in other files) or
conflict w/ changes made in other files.

so it now is able to run the perl script. but it still doesn't work
entirely. the problem i have now is i get a '500 internal server
 error' from my browser.

 checking the error.log shows

Premature end of script headers: /home/herb/public_html/init/test.pl

the problem is a similar script works on a working http server my
university runs (so i can't get the httpd.conf file to compare).

here's the simple script. hopefully you can punch a hole in it for me:

#!/usr/bin/perl -w
print Content-type: text/html\n\;

print EOF;
htmlbody
hi
/body/html

EOF

also, here's the relative modification from my access.conf that made
 apache want to run it:

DirectoryMatch ^/home/.*/public_html
AddHandler cgi-script .pl .cgi
Options ExecCGI Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch
AllowOverride None
/DirectoryMatch

to serve pages and execute cgis from your user directory (typically
outside the DocumentRoot), then read up on the UserDir directive in the
  apache docs.

  3. Check your access.conf file to make sure there isn't already some
directives configured for the path your directory is in. The default
configuration in Debian has something for public_html that you may need to
  edit.

  4. Be sure to restart the server after making changes.

Upgrade to potato; now /dev/psaux: No such device

2000-11-27 Thread Mark Phillips

I've just upgraded a machine to potato. All was fine till I tried
rebooting, then X crashed, complaining that it couldn't find the mouse. I
noticed gpm wasn't running. When I tried running it, it complained about
/dev/psaux device not existing. Now the file /dev/psaux exists. Now
there are also messages from modprob complaining that it can't find
net-pf-10 and char-major-14.

What I am wondering is whether somehow my modules stuff is no longer set
up correctly, but I'm really not sure whether that is the case. I tried
moving /etc/modules.conf to /etc/modules.conf.old and then do
update-modules to create a new file. This doesn't seem to improve
things.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark.

cdrom error - not playing sound

2000-11-27 Thread Yobb

Help!

My CDROM was working yesterday? I don't know what is happening now. I
can access data disks on this devices just fine. When I put in a music
CD and trying to play it use something like cdplay or Xplaycd the cdrom
does not start playing music. cdplay is reporting an error as below
when I tried to run it:

cdplay: ioctl cdromplaytrkind

What is weird is that a couple of boots ago cdplay was reporting a bunch
of error stuff that it has stopped doing? Seems erratic. My CDROM is
plugged in correct! I checked.

Funning thing is if I press the play button on the front of my CDROM it
will begin to play music through my sound cards speak jack. If I then
start say Xplaycd it shows the current track and time elapsed etc. The
bummer is if I stop the CD from playing (using Xplaycd's stop button)
and try to start playing the CD again with Xplaycd's play button it does
not work.

It seems like my CDROM is not recieving (or not interpreting the start
to play music signal)?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I set up my laptop to talk to print to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and it does, but

That's ok.

Why is this happening? Why isn't the postscript being processed by

The filter uses a lot of CPU time so an old 486er box is running into

Fetchmail doesn't get killed after being run by cron

2000-11-27 Thread Robert-Jan Kuijvenhoven

Hello,

I am running fetchmail as a cron job every half hour. It worked fine until
a few days ago. Suddenly, I started to receive the following messages:

Subject: Cron [EMAIL PROTECTED] /usr/bin/fetchmail -f /etc/fetchmailrc
--syslog --invisible

X-Cron-Env: SHELL=/bin/sh
X-Cron-Env: MAILTO=frank
X-Cron-Env: HOME=/root

X-Cron-Env: LOGNAME=root
Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 22:00:01 +0100

fetchmail: another foreground fetchmail is running at 853.

I have to kill fetchmail by hand to get fetchmail to receive messages again.

Fetchmail checks five mailboxes from three different isp's. I have checked
/var/log/syslog and I noticed that fetchmail stalls after checking the
first mailbox (or after starting to check the second one). There is no
error message in /var/log/syslog. There was no mail in the first mailbox
and there (probably) was no mail in the second mailbox as well.

What could be the problem here?

TIA,

  You could go to

where you will find .deb packages of XFree86 4.0.1 compiled for potato.

thanx, but i can't burn any cdrom.

You shouldn't have to.

any ideas? maybe a neat entry to sources.list i could use to get the files
automatically?? (i don't care if it would take some hours of downloading).

You could try

deb http://www.edlug.ed.ac.uk/Mirrors/Debian potato cpbotha

If that doesn't work, download the 'dists' directory with all
subdirectories to /some/path and try

deb file:/some/path potato cpbotha

the main problem was, that xserver-common depends on xfree86 common, but on
the server is no xfree86-common and xlibs conflicts with xlibg6 but if i
remove xlibg6, almost the whole system wants to be removed! argh...

As for the xlib6g problem, 'libxaw6' from the above server replaces
xlib6g. I can't remember having any problem with dependencies on
xfree86-common, but I can't check now. If you can't get it to work with
these tips, let me know and I will try to reinstall X 4.0.1 at home.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

  Manuel

Re: XFree86 + NV_GLX

2000-11-27 Thread Corey Popelier
I don't mind most of the logic of this, but I must say the following:

(1) I dont use NVdriver in X, I use nvidia instead of nv.
(2) Removing the libGLcore.a causes the GLcore module to not load, and the
only way to fix this is to reinstall xserver-xfree86. This does cause some
undefined symbols in my X load, but not ones which stop the server from
loading and functioning [seemingly] ok.
(3) Removing all trace of MESA is causing fun, because packages depend on
mesag3, and it seems that any update of these overwrites the NV-installed
GLX.

Am I off the beaten track?

On Sat, 25 Nov 2000, Brandt Dusthimer wrote:

Okay, if you've read any of my older postings, you'll realise that
installing the GLX drivers is a snap (if you know what your doing).
First, go to NVidia's web and download the GLX and NVidia Drivers. From
the main screen, click on products, then drivers, then linux. That should
 get you to them.
After you've downloaded them, put them both into your /usr/src
directory. Then tar -xzvf NV(driver name) and then tar -xzvf NV(GLX).
Go into the newly made NV(driver name) directory and type make. cd
.. and then go into the GLX directory. Type make again.
Okay, here's where things got a little bit tricky for me. First, type
dexter and setup your config (if the nvidia driver isn't listed, just
use the nv driver for now.) MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT WHAT DEXTER WRITES THE
CONFIG SCRIPT TO!!! I spent who knows how long debugging my box's X
config file (/etc/X11/XF86Config) only to find out later that dexter had
changed it to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. I set it everything right. I was just
 using the wrong config file.
Next, check out your /etc/modules.conf file. Make sure it says
something in there about alias char-major-195 NVdriver or something like
that. If it isn't there then go into the directory
/lib/modules/your-kernel-version/video (or do a locate NVdriver to tell
you where it is other than in the /usr/src/NVdriver directory.) After you
get there mv NVdriver NVdriver.o. Then do a modconf. Go into video and
select the NVdriver module. It should install just fine.
After doing that (*gasp* *gasp* *breathe* . . . quick rest ... ok, I'm
back) then edit whichever config file dexter wrote to. If you use vi, open
in up and type /. Then type nv and press return. It should find you
where in the script it sets which driver to use. (The nv should be in
 parentheses.) Replace nv with nvdriver.
Now, if your not already in X, do a startx. If you are in X, reset it

just tell me, I should be able to help.
Play Quake. Have fun? Does it run slow? If it does, you still have
some mesa drivers lying around. Do the following commands :

 rm /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libGLcore.a
 rm /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a
 rm /usr/lib/libGL.so
 rm /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so*
 rm /usr/X11R6/lib/libGLcore.so*

Then, go back into /usr/src/NV(GLX) and type make. Reset X and it
 should work fine.

 Enjoy Quake :),

Re: raid 5 partition table example

2000-11-27 Thread Silver
When you do Raid 5 using 3 hard drives (that's the minimum), you put all 3
drives into a logical array. Then the system will only see 1 logical hard
drive. After that, it doesn't matter how you create your partitions on it...
You can create several logical drives but you will need more hard drives.

samba question

2000-11-27 Thread Kozman Balint

Hi,

I have a small problem with my samba server: it is running as a domain
controller for the windoze clients. When a user copies some files to a
shared public directory, then this user is the only one, who can change
the _msdos/mswin_ attributes of the file, although the create mask for
this share is 0777 (really, it is - checked). Any other user can modify
(even delete!) others files in this share, but just can't change their
attribs.
Should I take this as a fact, or might this samba feature be reconfigured?

Regards,

One way is to use Samba on the Linux box and MS Client 3.0 on the DOS

it is http://pl.samba.org). The MS Client can be found at

i think (its been awhile) mksmbpasswd works something like this:

really easy, just play with it a bit.

the hard/annoying part is there is no way to convert the hashed
passwords in /etc/shadow or /etc/passwd into samba hashs, so you have
to manually run smbpasswd for each user you need enabled in
/etc/samba/smbpasswd. by default all users have locked accounts for

Problems adding styles to Lyx...

2000-11-27 Thread Más

Hi!!

I am having a strange problem with Lyx. I have installed some local
packages
for Latex (IEEE styles...) and after running texhash, latex is able to use
them without problem, but Lyx does not find them. I have re-run reconfigure in
Lyx and re-started it, but it still does not see the package. I have installed
it under '/usr/share/texmf.local/tex/latex/', following the 'TEXMFLOCAL =
/usr/share/texmf.local' variable in texmf.cnf... and latex reacts correctly,
but not Lyx. The only way to see it from Lyx is by installing it under
'/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex', the default place of the latex packages... Has
someone experimented the same problem? I mean, I can easily install it there,
but I wonder why it does not work as expected!!

Thanks in advance!!

Absender Corey Popelier ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

Hallo Corey Popelier,

I don't mind most of the logic of this, but I must say the following:

 (1) I dont use NVdriver in X, I use nvidia instead of nv.
That's right. nvidia is the X 4.x driver and NVDriver is a kernel
modul, that supports AGP
 (2) Removing the libGLcore.a causes the GLcore module to not load, and the
only way to fix this is to reinstall xserver-xfree86. This does cause some
undefined symbols in my X load, but not ones which stop the server from
 loading and functioning [seemingly] ok.
Don't remove libGLcore.a in /usr/X11/lib/modules/extensions, make sure
that /usr/lib/libGLcore.so is the one from Nvidias package, also
/usr/lib/libGL.so
should point to /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.0.5, also from Nvidias package.

CONFIG_IDEDISK_MULTI_MODE
If you get this error, try to say Y here:

  hda: set_multmode: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
  hda: set_multmode: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }

  If in doubt, say N.

This can be be turned on, but I don't believe it is in the default kernel.

You could recompile to correct it I believe. As for the rest they may be
solely a result of the above problem.

 ATAPI device hdc:

fun thing is that under X in an rxvt term I only get the error message

 Any help appreciated.

Re: Problems adding styles to Lyx...

Ignacio Más Ivars [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Hi!!

I am having a strange problem with Lyx. I have installed some local
 packages
for Latex (IEEE styles...) and after running texhash, latex is able to use
them without problem, but Lyx does not find them. I have re-run reconfigure
 in
Lyx and re-started it, but it still does not see the package. I have
 installed
it under '/usr/share/texmf.local/tex/latex/', following the 'TEXMFLOCAL =
/usr/share/texmf.local' variable in texmf.cnf... and latex reacts correctly,
but not Lyx. The only way to see it from Lyx is by installing it under
'/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex', the default place of the latex packages... Has
someone experimented the same problem? I mean, I can easily install it there,
but I wonder why it does not work as expected!!

 Thanks in advance!!

 /Nacho

What do you mean, doesn't find them? If you're talking about document
classes, you must translate them for LyX. Take a look at existing
layouts in /usr/share/lyx/layouts/, and build your own in
~/.lyx/layouts/. See chapter 6 of the Customization help file.

OT: request advice new PC

2000-11-27 Thread Frederik Vanrenterghem
Hi,

sorry for the off-topic posting, but as a debian user, I would like to get
some info from other debian users about their PC system. I'm about to buy
a new PC, and what I would like to have is 2D hardware accel in XF 4.0.1,
good soundcard, good motherboard, ...

Question is: I've been reading a lot about those NVidea drivers, and their
not-opensource-ness, is there a good alternative? What is a good video
card for someone who doesn't play games, but likes a 3D screensaver, and
likes a desktop in 1280x1024 @ 85 HZ in X, and be able to move Eterms
around in a quick way?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Greetings,

Frederik

I suspect it is when he compiled his kernel

I wasn't aware that he had compiled his kernel.

Also, for pon to work when logged in as a normal user, the user needs
to be added to the dip group.

Which is why I told him to add himself as a ppp user in pppconfig: that is
what it does.

Re: integrating latest matrox driver

I noticed that matrox has a linux driver for my g400 that is supposedly
better than the one in XFree86 4.0.1. According to their docs, however,
I need to download and compile XFree86 by hand with the new driver in
the appropriate directory. Is there another way to use their driver? How
does recompiling affect the already installed 4.0.1? If Branden makes
more changes does it overwrite what I have compiled?

get the binary throw it on top of the existing mga.o file. if branden
updates, yes it will be over-written - so keep a backup :o) or put
  xserver-xfree86 on hold

I have the new Matrox G450 card and have copied the new driver to
mga.o but am unable to get the xfree86-4 server to boot...just hangs a
blank screen. The driver readme says it supports the g450 card.
Has anyone got this card working in 4.0 or any clues on how you
got the G400 to work. My xserver works fine with the ATI 128 pro card.

all the PGP options have changed in mutt 1.2.5 which is in potato r1

 the section in question is:

   set pgp_verify_sig=no
   set pgp_default_version=gpg
   #set pgp_autosign
   #set pgp_sign_as=nothing
   set pgp_timeout=7200

before apt-get upgrade, mutt worked fine; now
it gripes at this pgp_* stuff. did i miss an important
 'we changed some things' post?

no unfortunatly not the only place this is documented in the
changelogs for mutt. note that the pgp stuff is already configured in
/etc/Muttrc for this version of mutt, so you don't need much in your
~/.muttrc anymore, i have:

## gpg stuff

set pgp_autosign
set pgp_replyencrypt
set pgp_replysignencrypted
set pgp_replysign
set pgp_sign_as=0x2C447AFC
set pgp_strict_enc

thats all thats required, im not really sure about that
pgp_strict_enc, though.

on http://developer.netscape.com, you can find a set of javascript function
to check a form.
These function are based on regular expression that can be reused with PHP.
So, let's go to
http://developer.netscape.com/docs/examples/index.html?content=javascript.ht
ml
and then click on Form Validation with JavaScript 1.2 Regular Expressions
I think you'll find what you're looking for

one more thing that has changed, the lists and subscribe commands have
new meanings (rather subscribe is added, and lists changed)

lists causes a Mail-Followup-To header to include the list address
AND your personal email address.

subscribe causes a Mail-Followup-To header to include ONLY the list
address and not your personal email address.

so if you like being CCed in list replies use `lists' if not use `subscribe'

ppp doesn't work with kernel 2.4.0-test11

2000-11-27 Thread Mark Phillips
I have recently compiled a 2.4.0-test11 kernel. I am using it with a
mainly potato distribution. However, in order to get things working I
have needed to upgrade to a number of woody packages. In particular,
I have upgraded util-linux, modutils, e2fsprogs and ppp.

When I try to use pon to start a ppp connection, it almost is
successful, but right at the end comes up with:

pppd: Serial connection established
pppd: Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline: Invalid argument

I cannot think what is wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark.
